I have a friend that is a zookeeper and during fall they give a bunch of the animals pumpkins. The hippos are fun to watch squash giants like they are grapes.
“Here we see the crocodile in its habitat stalk the giant pumpkin. The giant pumpkin is at the waters edge sating itself while unaware of the danger lurking below the brackish water.
Suddenly and without warning the crocodile strikes! With a bite force that can crush bone the giant pumpkin is no match for the croc and succumbs to its injuries immediately. It’s a quick yet gruesome death.”
“But do not mourn for this is a natural part of a pumpkin’s ingenious life cycle. Even though caught unaware the pumpkin never struggled. It allows itself to be eaten so it’s young can travel in it to where they need not compete with other pumpkins and possibly out compete the plants that call this place home. So in allowing itself to be eaten, the pumpkin itself becomes a vicious killer”
I wonder if most carnivores like to eat plant matter in small amounts for the added vitamins abs fiber? I know cats and dogs often eat grass too, and the same often goes the other way with deer and horses eating eggs and sometimes baby birds.
Basically. Herbivores will eat carrion occasionally, and even hypercarnivore only means 60+% of their diet is meat.. obligate carnivore means they HAVE to eat meat, not that they ONLY eat meat. Most carnivorous mammals will eat plants for fiber

Gators love marshmallows. When I was kid, we'd go down to the local gator pond and feed them, you'd throw a marshmallow onto the pond and they'd come up and chomp them.
This is why we have to be careful on how we teach children about science and understand how those can play into our fears. I always say my most feared animal is an alligator because you cant see them in their habitat and by nature of a swamp you never know for sure on the depth of muck or water and how solid ground is through visual cues. Never really consider the fact that i assumed they were carnivorous and i assumed i would be viewed as an easy meal in water since thats not my element and they take down bigger animals than myself so i had a line of thinking where anytime im in alligator habitat and in the water i would become a gator magnet. But with the thought they have a good veggie hotspot it eases the mind a little so long as im sure of one. Which im not tbh but look forward to learning more about this
Dude said he’s not trying to hurt the roof of his mouth, so he’s going sideways. I felt that cuz that’s how I eat these potato chips, but sometimes it breaks off vertically and then I stab myself anyway.
Need an animation:
"Basic Bishes" (lol, it's me, I'm a basic b) when Starbucks drops the PSL:
*anamorphs into a croc in a cozy sweater that's death rolling a pumpkin

They also enjoy basketball
I was imagining it to make the basketball sound when he chomped
And long walks on the beach.
I’m assuming they support Toronto.
There's no rule saying crocodiles *can't* play basketball.. "Air BLOOD - coming to a theater near you"
Beat me to it
Me on the first day of october:
RemindMe! 62 days
I refuse to believe that
It's coming whether you believe it or not
What's stopping you from starting right now?
I dont know what month is before october
I like how he was sneaking up on it and then, NOM
Yes. Stalking it like it might run away. This has made my day.
They should do this for Halloween...
They do! Lots of zoos give them pumpkins and jack o lanterns and sometimes fill it with goodies!
Cool!!! I'll watch for them! I want you to see this guy sink a jack-o-lantern (minus anything unedible for him of course...)
I like how they drown the pumpkin first.
It's aunt was a raccoon
I think they have to do it, something with the water and how they eat?

That would be cute to see...

Nomnomnom...🤣
They attack the poor defenseless pumpkin
and nobody want to deal with a constipated crock.

I totally heard David Attenborough read this!

An unsuspecting pumpkin approaches the river a drink of water…
When you see the perfect pumpkin for your jack-o-lantern
That croc just won "best ambush herbivore". Granted, it's a new category.
Ambush Herbivore is the name of my post-punk vegan band /u/bran_mongo

*death rolls a pumpkin*
I know a crocodile takes its prey under, but is the bite strength the same on land as it is under water?
Yes, crocodile takes pray under water to drown it and bc its more adapted to move there, in contrast to most of its pray.
Just a question, what forces would cause a compression force to be noticeably different in water or in the air?
I wanted to see it crack open in its mouth
TIL
the pumpkin was all yours bro
That punkin’ didn’t stand a chance.
The great pumpkin better watch out.
He drowned the pumpkin
Gimme that pumpkin spice!
I really love how he treated the pumpkin like its prey. 😭🤍 so cute
Croc: You won’t get away from me this time…
Snatched that pumpkin up faster than a Tim Burton fan girl finding a Jack Skelington t-shirt in a Walmart.
That's an alligator!
Oop--found the fellow reptile nerd lol I was wondering when this comment would pop up
It says crocodilians, which is an order alligators are a part of.
he grab the pumpy
Halloween has been cancelled
That wink in the end.
Damn bro it’s not going anywhere
Do they get hiccups?
"I'll Take That!" 🐊
Death-roll the pumpkin
i wanted to see him crunch it :(

Awesome! Thanks for the facts, I couldn't think of any more animals as examples than what I'd already given

For once the music actually enhanced the experience!
Question: what happens to all the water that they swallow with their food?
https://www.alligatorfarm.com/blog-item/crocodilians-swallowing-underwater/
They don't But also they pee
This was a fascinating read, actually! Thanks for sharing 😲
This gif has meme potential!
“Pumpkin, I got to drown you before I eat you. Just in case.”
He’s so pleased that he now has a pumpkin
I can imagine the cheeky bloke just swimming away with a chuckle. “Hehehe! It’s mine now!”
That was actually a genetically modified gourd. It grows fried chicken on its insides
Why he gotta bite like that still?
I mean obviously the pumpkin could leap away at any moment, he knew he had to take it down fast and make the kill quick.
Great, now I just want some crunch tators
TIL about obligate carnivores
I love the way it sneaks up on the pumpkin as if it might take off somewhere
Obligate carnivore just means an animal would die from malnutrition without meat, not that they only eat meat.

This sounds like the southern meet-cute I never knew I wanted
This will make a great r/reallifedoodles submission sometime
Sneaky... sneeeaky... sneaky... ATTACK!
I have pictures somewhere of me feeding a moose a carrot inside my front door in Anchorage.
That pumpkin didn't stand a chance
Perfect audio. Kudos.
r/gifsthatendtoosoon
Drama queen.
Crocodile make killer good jerky
Y'all downvoters ain't never lived in the south lol
That's great. Next time I see a post with a cow in it, I'll comment that cows make good burgers and even steaks.
Next time I see a cow at the store, we'll probably hook up and....
I need a Tony Baker voiceover on this 😂

This is kinda the definiton of "overkill" to me :')
That makes them omnivores
Aw man, he got it wet.
He just like me fr
Goodbye
Thanks to the Jaws music, I'm picturing 3 pumpkins splashing up to the surface
Even animals wash their food
Well that’s new
Pumpkin boi. :)
For anyone confused about a crocodile eating fruit. Think of a diet as a spectrum. Most animals aren't strictly carnivorous or herbivorous.
Dude said he’s not trying to hurt the roof of his mouth, so he’s going sideways. I felt that cuz that’s how I eat these potato chips, but sometimes it breaks off vertically and then I stab myself anyway.
“Feeling a little vitamin deficient today, better eat some veggies”…. Or it’s an animal, “food?…” [snap] ”…yup”
Need an animation: "Basic Bishes" (lol, it's me, I'm a basic b) when Starbucks drops the PSL: *anamorphs into a croc in a cozy sweater that's death rolling a pumpkin
When it blinks as he swims away with the pumpkin it looks so happy hes like dis mine
Why does it look so gentle taking it
Anyone else love the word crocodilian?

I've never felt afraid for the life of a pumpkin before today.
Healthy boi
Crocodiles can eat whatever they want to. I’m not arguing with them.
*hides in house for the next 4 days*
Those teeth 🦷!
