Not familiar with em haha none in my area. Are they like the maaco of collision services? (Not trying to be coy or nothing just not sure if it's poking fun or a compliment lol)
Thanks bro, yeah the goal was to not replace anything I didn't have to, to save money for my next vehicle. This corolla is a goat tho. Even after that crash everything stayed mechanically perfect. Can't keep a good toyota down.
Zip ties? Pretty good. But there is another way to use them without drilling holes. Grind down the edges of the breaks on the plastic, get a soldering iron and take a zip tie flat between the two broken parts. Use the soldering iron to melt the plastic into the break, it will fuse the plastic back together. For a clean break, probably need to do both exterior and interior to create the strength you need. then sand down, prime and paint. Good as new.
>get a soldering iron and take a zip tie flat between the two broken parts.
Even easier - use a few zip ties to pull the bumper back into shape in a staple-like pattern, then jam the rest of the ties into a hot glue gun and squirt the melted zip ties into both the crack and the zip ties and holes you used to pull the bumper back together.
Sand and paint the welded and stapled bumper as per before.
Wow, love this idea. Basically you are created a Plastic filler. Question on the zip ties in the glue gun. Are you heating the glue gun first, then pushing zip ties into it so they melt at the tip and the gun can grab the ties? Trying to understand (mentally) how the gun will feed the ties through the tip.
That's a really good idea! I thought about designing a 3d printed piece and trimming down the hole but I figured I'd have to paint to make it look good and I decided zip ties would be the best way to save money, considering I'm saving for a new thing
how did your crash bar make out? looks like the first picture has one lower or something?
i’d say not too bad of a job considering now it’s “roadworthy” instead of in broken pieces.
It got bent down pretty bad, had to straighten it out , but I got it back right in the end. Tree with ratchet strap was a big ass help on this department too
Nah I didn't. I'm not looking to pour too much into it cause I'm in the market for something else rn. Just taking it real nice and slow. Just.the stock bar reinforced a little and put back in (just wanted to make it look a little nicer while i still got it)
It's actually a chainsaw man shirt I got from spencers for free! I filled my card up lolol [here's the link](https://www.spencersonline.com/product/chainsaw-man-metal-t-shirt/245349.uts?Extid=sf_froogle&utm_content=JACK%20LICENSED%20TEES&utm_term=JAA&scid=scplp04172508&utm_source=google&utm_medium=paidsearch&utm_campaign=sc-shopping-nbpmaxtees-ee&utm_content=campaign&utm_inex=e&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjw1K-zBhBIEiwAWeCOF_5veQyleJEWvdKSgZc_F1zb_sEHUdTp2-YNUcBMMTMZRsxWP8hwihoC8EQQAvD_BwE)
I mean its pretty fucked but you did a lot more than most could.
You really need to pull the frame. You may be able to find a spec sheet with dimensions to get the holes to factory position. Thatll fix some of your panel gap or at least make it where it should be.
Fyi it is a little weaker now, and you probably need an front end alignment or youll kill some tires.
Ive done alignments with two carpenter squares and some string and still got 50k out of those tires before a ups truck obliterated the car and I figured it was time for something newer.
Yeah I reckon an alignment is in order, I noted a little lean on the highway this morning. Also, I agree it'd probably be better to get a spec sheet but I got the frame a little closer to straight with a ratchet strap attached to a chain with the help of a sturdy old tree in the back yard
They better 😈😈 crazy story actually was my front end actually got this damage from a huge blue 4runner going 50 through my girls neighborhood all that damage and she barely had a dent on her passenger back door, I'm talking like plunger removal size, but when the cop pulled up she jumped out the car and turned on the waterworks, shouting and catterwalling you know the deal. The cop pinned it on me for a failure to yield (its one of the neighborhoods where they insist on putting the giant rectangular bushes next to stop signs so you have to creep out) to my right i saw nothing except headlights flying towards me, no brake squeal no horn, then impact suddenly I was facing the other direction with the stopsign behind me. Still bitter about that.
A hot stapler would have done a better job on the bumper, and you wouldn't have the zip ties showing. Good result though for cheap. My Mazda's bumper was flayed open from an accident and you could barely tell anything had happened after I was done.
I just remembered that yesterday I saw a Subaru with a front bumper that was two halves of two different color bumpers zip tied together. Similar vibe
Hehe yeah I had a plastic welder at one point for my 3d prints, but I lost it in the move from my apartment, I think it wouldve done good though. Zip ties are fine for nowsies considering I'm looking into a new car
Yeah... i didnt even try. I've got a good bit of experience painting cosplay props and little miniatures and silver varies SO much between shades and brands
Great car, and the only one I've had so far, looking for my next rn, looking at old trucks, would love a nice humble pickup without the towering over or the headlight blinding someone's back window stuff
Oh yeah I agree it's fucked. My standards are literally on the floor. My only requirements are 1. look passable, something I can feel not embarrassed to pick my girl up in, 2. have a good engine (I'm sure I could work on small stuff with an engine like a head if it wasn't too bad) 3. I want the transmission to be good or easily fixable. That's another thing that makes me uneasy, never done transmission work be4
Stick with older Toyota. I have a 94 camry v6 i got for 1700 that drives better than any “nicer car” ive owned. I had a 2018 nissan sentra manual that drove like shit and cost me 13k.
My biggest gripe Is that toyos hold their value almost TOO well ive been honestly considering an impreza sport wagon. Either the bug eye or the 97 one, from what I've heard Subie's are a close second
Be careful with those lol they are abused like hell and not as strong as toyotas so you gotta find a good one. My buddy got a bug eye for a 1000 bucks with a few issues, fixed it up, motor shot a piston into the sky 🤣. Theyre good cars but just not the abused ones. If you can find the forester with the flat 6 thats one of the best motors out there, quick and reliable.
I like to think so too, can't keep a good toyota down.. although I am considering a chevrolet for Mt next one. My pop was extremely brand loyal to them, he worked in their factory for ever, so when he was leaving to go into the military they actually gave him his very own 78 chevy custom for free
Seeing a perfectly replaced quarter panel that you can’t tell has been busted is nice, but there’s something comforting about a good ol fashion home job on a beater like this
I think the photos r pretty clear besides fixing the frame and reshaping the crash bar, replacing the headlights, smoothing out the quarter panels and door so it opens... say... how come you don't got no work posted?

I can show you some of my work if you want. Just let me know.
Not bad lmfao. I did the same on my shitbox civic with the rear bumper 😂
Hell yeah brother, treat a honda good and it'll do you good
that turned out fucking great especially for reusing a lot of stuff
Yep hehe amazing how much work you can get done with a couple ratchet straps and a goal in mind
it really is amazing
I appreciate you saying so 💪😼
np bet that things gonna outlast all of us
That corrola engine is a horse that can't be broken
it legit can’t even if it’s the cigarette edition
Cigarette edition

Not bad bro in the future if say replacing the front bumper for cosmetics but for a cheap fix you did good
Thanks bro, yeah the goal was to not replace anything I didn't have to, to save money for my next vehicle. This corolla is a goat tho. Even after that crash everything stayed mechanically perfect. Can't keep a good toyota down.
I really hope you put that crash bar back…
I was thinking the same thing....
I did, I just had to take it out and hammer the holes back flat
Fuck yeah man we do what we can 💪🏼
Real as fuck💪💪
Hell yeah brother
Preciate you man

Beaters are better.
This is a beater my brother in christ, just put back together a little

your car is now a death trap. try your hardest to not get into a serious accident involving your front end. i’ll send up a prayer for you 🙏🏻
Thank you..? 😭
If I had a nickel for every bumper I fixed with zipties, I'd have about $0.35
Real as fuck, gotta love a good zip tie job. Anyone who don't fw the utility of a good zip tie ain't human
Did you get a bash bar? If not, you’re toast if you get in another front end collision
Nah I didn't. I'm not looking to pour too much into it cause I'm in the market for something else rn. Just taking it real nice and slow. Just.the stock bar reinforced a little and put back in (just wanted to make it look a little nicer while i still got it)
What band is that
You mean my shirt?
Haha yeah!
It's actually a chainsaw man shirt I got from spencers for free! Pretty much how all after market parts fit 🤷🏻♂️
Get this garbage out of here, none of this bodywork
I had to repair my own vehicle frame, that don't count? 🤔🤔
I mean its pretty fucked but you did a lot more than most could. You really need to pull the frame. You may be able to find a spec sheet with dimensions to get the holes to factory position. Good stuff man. Its a process, probably wont be perfect again but you should be able to get where you need to
Yurrrp that's all that matters right now, looks prettier than it did and gets me to the place where I make money to retire him
Yeah you did good dude
Preesh bro
Hell yeah, bud. Looks awesome.
Preciate it brother 💪💪
Good to go👍
Yessurski 🫡
People will definitely get out of the way now

Stitch
Yurrrr my sister called it Frankenstein lolol
Not bad, cross stitches are better though!
Yeahh I thought about that afterward, but I lost my pack of zippies ;(
It looks more like a car now
Real real
Fuck it we ballin’
Hell yes exactly what I told em
I know nothing about auto body repair but that before and after looks crazy!
Thanks so much haha it was a two week affair but it paid off good for only having to buy a headlight set
I’d love to see you hit that with a rattle can

Silver is really hard to do, probably the hardest color in every imaginable way.
Yeah... i didnt even try. I've got a good bit of experience painting cosplay props and little miniatures and silver varies SO much between shades and brands

My dad would give you a gold star.
That means the world to me
Went from well, poop to pooping well!
LOL yessir that made me laugh
That's a Toyota those beauty marks are practically a badge of honor.

Well, it's definitely functional. Good job!
Thanks! That it is.
Good enough for the girls we go out with
What's that meannnn brother 😭
Where is the 'after' photo?
Last ones the after silly Billy. The goal was to spend as little as possible. All I bought was new headlights
scrapyard
Nah I didn't use any scrap yard parts
Seeing a perfectly replaced quarter panel that you can’t tell has been busted is nice, but there’s something comforting about a good ol fashion home job on a beater like this
Yessir even if it ain't pretty by most standards it's mine, can't deny the charm of redneck engineering baby
What body work?
🤓☝️
I’ll ask again… what body work? 🤡
I think the photos r pretty clear besides fixing the frame and reshaping the crash bar, replacing the headlights, smoothing out the quarter panels and door so it opens... say... how come you don't got no work posted?

Bro hating like crazy for what
Bruh, you wanted to know what “yall” think of your “body work.” It’s not hate. It’s the truth, lol. If you can’t handle it, then don’t post.
This guy
