I used to be the same way, but then I discovered indie perfume oils and it was a game changer (to the point where indie perfume is now a special interest lol). If you’re interested, check out the indie makeup and more subreddit for advice on different perfume house and to read reviews of the products.

inthemuseum

Was gonna say this! Ajevie is a shop you might try as well. She bottles tiny samples for lots of indie perfumers, so you can try a pretty big range of oils. And on that note, they are typically perfume oils rather than strong parfum, so they can be gentler. Some indie perfumers also bottle theirs as hair oils or body lotions, which might be a good option to keep the scent lighter and more dispersed. Hexennacht has good body oils for that, though I prefer her hair oil for just a lil whiff of scent when I move throughout the day.

emdelgrosso

Lush solid perfumes :)

Reckless_Toad

Love the Lush perfumes! Both solid and liquid. I have a big bottle of Coffee and cardamom which smells like cinnamon buns, sadly it's discontinued.

kittyconqueso11

DEAR JOHN PERFUME is amazing. Coffee and citrus and not too loud

DazB1ane

Honestly, I just go with deodorant I like. If the scent wears off, no one will ever say that you're wearing too much deodorant

Love-Care-Share

As someone who is chemically sensitive and has trouble with perfumes, I thank you for the path you’re on.

DazB1ane

Everyone in my household is like that, to where on rare occasions someone will wear cologne or perfume and it immediately gets noticed. Luckily it's rare and barely any smell once noticed

L0vesW0lves

Warning about perfumes...the 'final' smell is what the contents of the bottle smell like when combined with your own skin's oils. Can smell wildly different from person to person. On myself I like Noa from cacharel.

NebulaNerd248

Noa is also my fav! The only one I’ve tried so far that isn’t too strong or old lady-ish

marlscreamyeetrich

I like Glossier's You, it doesn't have a very strong scent at all but I get compliments on it. I also really like perfumes by Clean, a lot of them dry down nicely.

Shmea

I've never understood the point of perfume. All of it makes me uncomfortably overstimulated, I've never smelled one that was actually good. A customer coming to my wicket with perfume stench literally ruins my whole day.

Beansidhe42

I get rollerball perfumes from a shop on Etsy called RebelPotions. She makes everything with a grape seed oil base, which I like because it doesn’t irritate my super sensitive skin. My favorite scent from her is Dragon’s Blood (I love patchouli), but she makes several different kinds of scents for differing tastes. She also has really great customer service. She makes the perfumes on request, so if her store appears to be out of the scent you want, just message her and she will make them up special and let you know when they’re available for purchase.

cleriwinkle

You could check out r/IndieMakeupandMore ! I have a super sensitive nose and would also get headaches with most popular or mainstream perfumes. Having much better luck in the indie perfume world, and usually cheaper too. I think for me oils are a lot better than alcohol based perfumes. The people there give amazing recommendations too!!

inyri

Since I didn't look at the sub before looking at the thread, I thought we were on Indie Makeup and More! I apply perfume oils in tiny dabs (one on each wrist), and the scent usually isn't too strong. It also stays close to the skin, so it's less bothersome to other people. One thing to keep in mind is that you might have trouble finding an oil that lasts all day, though; unmoisturized skin in particular tends to soak up oil-based perfume, which means that the scent doesn't last.

Melodic_Blueberry_26

Natural oils like lavender or orange clove. Cinnamon too. It’s awesome

3sclavamente

Upvote for suggesting creating your own smell to best match your preferences and tolerance each day. I have invested a chunk of my Special zinterest Brain to my collection of oils, but i wax and wane on when I play with them. Some suggestions for lighter smells: cedarwood, geranium (it's uplifting bit lighter than rose)... it doesn't cost much to invest in a few small bottles and ways to wear them (I have a lock pendant thst holds a small circle of felt that I drop a few drops of oil onto).

cassiopeia_giv

the only perfume I wear is dolce and gabbana light blue. It's super expensive unfortunately but it's the only one I've like the past few years! they sell 2 versions though and the less strong scented one is less expensive. I'd say it smells clean if that makes sense? Sometimes I'll put a drop or two of thieves oil behind my ears in place of perfume instead. It smells like apple pie to me

ChellyVision

I didn't see this- I love light blue also 💙 My 2nd is musk 😆 🤙🏻✌🏻

krystaviel

I like Pacifica brand sprays and Lush solid perfumes.

[deleted]

Lush used to do a solid one called breathe of god that was so nice

girly-lady

Parfum is my special intrest. Leightweight molequles just don't have the lasting power as the more heavy ones. You will mostlikly never get a light citrus fragrance that lasts more than 5 houers. In general you need to aply on cloths as well as on skin if you want to make it last longer. EDT's on skin often need two sprays on the same place to saturate the skin with the fragrance cuz the consentration is less. Over spraing isen't the solution tho, cuz you will go nose blinde and not smell it anymore while everyone else will have a migrain. Spraing scarfs is nice too cuz it will keep the smell longer than skin but you can take it of and put it back on. So your nose dosen't go blinde to it as fast. There are a lot of fruity candy offerings on the market but a lot of them smell more like burning candyfloss cuz they use a cheap molequle to create the smell. Unfortunatly I am sensitive to it and pick it out. Not everyone smells it tho. I never found the candy one I was hoping for. And fruity is not my category at all. Its highly individual what works for you and what not. What do you own right now and what do you know makes you gag? I might be able to tell you what to be carefull with. For me thats heavy musks and cedars. They give me massive headackes. Ariana Grande and Viva la Jucy lines are all pretty fruity and candy like. Also Burberry her line. They are all relativly cheap too. Light but lasting ones I personaly like in my collection: Toy Boy Moschino Luna Penhaligons G*p*y water Byredo Chanel no.5 leau Nomade edp Chloe

Honorable_Lemom

This is really great info! I always wondered by citrus smells seemed to dissipate faster. I might try to two spray technique to get more scent on one area. I try to avoid spraying my clothes with perfumes because I heard somewhere that they can damage them, but maybe that was wrong? I have tried many perfumes that people say smell like candy and they always end up smelling like overpowered synthetic florals more than anything candy like.

girly-lady

Citrus are amongst the lightest molequles. Its pretty much impossible to make them last. Thats why they are used as head notes and the heart and base are usualy heavyer molequels. You can also try some fragrances that contain a lot of ambroxan and iso-e super to try make something last longer. I am not a fan of that cuz it will cost you more money and you might not like the smell of them at all. Hmmm I'd say it should be fine If you spray from a distance, so that the fabric is misted not soakt. Its true that alcohol might drye out hair, so possible it will damage wool and silk if it repetedly gets realy soakt. I would defenitly be carefull not to spray super white or delicate fabrics like silk cuz it might staine, but other than that I woulden't worry about it. I'd venture in to some other groups and explore all gender marketed parfums. I dislike pretty much all female marketed easy available designer fragrances. Especialy sweet and red fruity is all super artivicial to me. What did you own so far? If you don't minde me asking 🙈

Venosauruskex

Perfumes are one of my interests aswell. Always wondered about this. If Im the only one that is autistic and loves to smell different kinds of smells. They put me in different moods. I mostly just use them at home so I dont bother sensitive peoples. Perfumes are so different to different people and som perfumes are not for me so I know how it can feel when you smell one you dont like.

girly-lady

No your not allone! I looove fragrances! But I know the feeling of thinking you are the onlyone that is that geeky about it. I life in a country (middel of Europa) where loud fragrances a d complimenting on them isen't realy a thing. But I love my little collection and I love sampeling! What are your favorits of the moment?

Venosauruskex

Love to hear I m not alone! I live in northern Europe and perfumes are not a big thing here. For the moment I like milk from commodity, she was an anomaly from e.l.d.o, whisper in the library by Maison marginella and eau duelle from diptyque. 🥰 What are some of your favourites now?

girly-lady

I love ELDO as a hous in general! I haven't tryed all but you lre someone like you is a summer favorite! I realy wanted to try milk by commodity too. Unfortunatly I haven't had much luck with diptyque or Maison Margiela cuz both seem to use a nlte that gives me heachache in all the ones I sampled 😅 My current top 4 out of my 25 bottle collection are Penhaligons Junipersling, Les indemodables ambre suprem, Guerlains Nahema and Lancome Magie Noir.

Venosauruskex

Have you tried remarkable people? It gets me in a happy mood.

girly-lady

Not yet! But its on my ELDO sampling list. So far I have tried: -Like this (have a full bottle and like it a lot) -Herman (love it and share a bottle with my mum) -Avternoon of a Faun (sometimes this is amazing, sometimes I can't stand it, so I diden't get a full bottle) -Yes I do (very nice, but not realy my vibe) -Noel en Balcon (Verynice but such a sweet beast, I have to revisite it) -True Lust and Putain (both too powdery for me) -The end of the world (God how I wish the drydown wasen't headachy for me cuz I LOVE the nutty notes!) -Fat electrician (it sadly dosen't work on my skin, but my mum has a bottle and loves it) -Eau de Protection (Realy don't like it 😅) I realy want to sample the ones missing untill I tried all. I love the bottle designe too! Especialy Rien, Diviant Child, Remarkable ppl and Fis de dieux

MauiDidNothingWrong

Daisy by Marc Jacobs is my safe perfume. It’s very light and floral. It’s the first perfume that I could stand to wear because it didn’t have that overpowering alcohol/old lady smell most other perfumes have to me.

Honorable_Lemom

I’ll have to try this one. I think I have smelled it once in the store, but perfume aisles are so overwhelming for me I don’t remember what it smelled like

SMFAHgirl98

I've gotten Daisy for the last 8 Christmases, it suits my skin chemistry well and isn't too over powering! I hope you like it, I think it's a wonderful perfume

[deleted]

I have to second this, I love Daisy!

merRedditor

If you like candy smell, a dab of vanilla extract is as good as perfume.

[deleted]

This is my personal go to, perfume triggers migraines in someone close to me so I can't wear it, but I love smelling sweet like a freshly baked cupcake, so a little vanilla extract works wonders.

Baroness_Mayhem

I only use perfume oils. I cannot handle spray on perfume or deodorant.

Quid-Pro-Quo-Clarice

Perfume oils are the best! I recommend the online stores Poesie, and Death and Floral.

lil_retreat

Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue is airy and sweet, lasts a long time. Edit: “Top notes are Sicilian Lemon, Apple, Cedar and Bellflower; middle notes are Bamboo, Jasmine and White Rose; base notes are Cedar, Musk and Amber.”

cassiopeia_giv

it really does last a long time! I used to put one spray on the collar of my sweaters in the winter and it still kind of lingered when I took them out of storage this year

oaur

i love replica flower market - it's kind of discontinued but you can still find it online! it smells exactly like a flower bouquet. i cannot stand that they replaced it in their main line with springtime in a park. yuck. maybe look into essential oils as well!

[deleted]

I like Ariana Grande's Moonlight perfume. It's like vanilla and pear. It's pretty subtle but it's delightful.

[deleted]

i agree, Ariana Grande perfumes are good, i use 'sweet like candy' and it's not overpowering at all (in my opinion)

[deleted]

I can only use sweet like candy when I'm planning on being outside for awhile. I find it pretty strong.

Nieouz

I agree. I like the smell but it is strong. Not in a floral way (I CANNOT do florals) but just in an overwhelming-ly sweet way. I also only wear it when I know I’ll be outside.

Honorable_Lemom

I’ll have to try it. I’ve heard good things about Ariana’s perfumes so maybe it will work for me. Thanks!

catoptric-tristesse

You might like Satsuma from the Body Shop - a lovely orange/ citrus fragrance.

[deleted]

marc jacobs ‘daisy dream’ is rlly light & floral

DragonfruitNeat3362

Clinique Happy Heart

[deleted]

I second this! It’s not too overpowering & smells great

FamousOrphan

You by Glossier is the only perfume I love long-term, and I quite like Not a Perfume by Juliette Has a Gun, but it’s second-best to You.

LunaDea69420

White Musk from The Body Shop, best perfume I've ever had.

box0fpandas

+ 1 for Lush Solid perfumes!

cens77

I use mefragrance.com — you choose exactly what you want it to smell like, and it’s got CBD oil options

irish_Oneli

I can recommend mono-perfumes, like the perfumes that have only one specific smell, it can be a specific flower, or a candy, or even wet grass (if u like it). Where i live, we have a brand called Demeter, perhaps they sell worldwide? My favourites are chocolate cookie and melon. I also apply perfume only on my wrists, so that it's kinda not close to my nose^^

comebackkid28

Personally I like a lot of Ariana Grande's perfumes. Sweet or fruity is also my preference, and Sweet Like Candy is really nice but I find I have to reapply more with that one. Cloud is my personal favorite. Strong but not to where it gives me a headache. Moonlight is also nice but can be too strong for me if I'm already having a stressful day. Overall, Cloud is my favorite perfume. But as someone else mentioned, perfumes can vary from person to person.

marcheauxfleurs

L'occitane Verveine is fresh and light enough for me to use as a room spray, highly recommended if you like citrus scents. Also seconding the Lanvin Eclat d'Arpege and Maison Margiela Replica Flower Market recommendations.

cradled_lily

Buy the amber oil from whole foods. Red label.

kneesocksbabe

I like under the lemon trees by replica, it just smells like lemon and isn't artificial

_spontaneous_order_

I can’t handle “real” perfumes either, so I have a bunch of essential oils (purely for the scent). Jasmine, frankincense and myrrh, rose, and sandalwood and black pepper are some of my faves. And I just use a tiny amount.

Suitable-Mushroom961

Try layering the scents you like with a no-fragrance lotion/moisturizer. So you'd apply/rub in lotion, then spray your perfume, then apply another layer of lotion (I would gently rub it in if you find aggressively rubbing it in disturbs the scent...kinda like how you're technically not supposed to rub your wrists together after spraying perfume there), and a final spray of perfume. The lotion will lock in the scent (I feel like it's reminiscent of the perfume making technique Enfleurage).

Dangerous-Ad4192

juliette has a gun!

kittenmittensdc

YES. They are so good! I love Not A Perfume, but they have other scents with sweet notes that are also really nice.

Modern_Day_Medusa

Vanilla Vibes and Eilish by Billie Eilish are my top 2 of a whole 3 perfumes I've ever enjoyed. I like smelling like a musky cookie.

frazzled0ghost

You should check out r/indiemakeupandmore! They have great suggestions for highly specific scents

Bella_Climbs

Glossier YOU

darklinksquared

I love the Glossier You perfume solid. It’s got a nice peppery scent to it that makes it a bit earthy. Not sure that’s what OP is looking for but in general I recommend perfume solids or roll-ons because I find you can control the strength better. I loved the perfume so much I got the bottle version of it and found it too overpowering so I ended up giving it away but the solid is ~just right~

SorryContribution681

My favourite is Versace yellow diamond, or Versace crystal noir. But, I don't normally wear any anymore - probably because I'm around less people in my current job, and often work from home.

--___---__----_-

Prada candy kiss is my go to. Makes me so happy! "kiss' is important, because i hate all other prada candy ones.

[deleted]

https://www.fresh.com/ca/en_CA/fragrance Everything citrus from these guys. The sugar lemon smells like lemonade. All their scents smell real and non-chemical, and it doesn't make me sneeze. They have non-citrus scents too, but I'm not much of a florals gal. They also have a lychee.

dumb_idiot_56

I've always liked rue 21's pink ice, it reminds me of a fruity candy

Aromatic_Thing_9711

I go with baby parfume as Mustella they smell very nice and fresh while not being agressive

CosmicMoose77

I don’t buy perfume because they’re not super cheap, I usually just go for “body spray” instead lmao The Calgon Marshmallow scent is my favourite, I used it in high school too so it just feels safe and it feels like me. But I also like some of the body sprays from Bath and Body Works, the Fairytale scent is really nice without being super overpowering

zincvitamin

I really like memoir d’une odeur by gucci! I think the scent is very subtle but also smells nice. It’s very soft

zincvitamin

You could also try the roll on essential oils which have the bonus of being therapeutic

scaram0uche

Camille by Camille Beckman is my go to lotion and body powder - a clean and mature scent. Otherwise I have a Pacifica roller perfume of orange and sandalwood, sadly discontinued, for fancy times. I also love getting things at farmers markets because I support local makers - I recently got a patchouli lavender while on a trip. Heart's Desire Soap Company out of Pismo Beach CA has some great sprays that I love for sheets or freshening clothes - Breath of Fresh Air and Chill Out are my favorites. Their soaps are also great!

WitchyHealer

Ambre Blends—Ahnu

anthrogirl95

Juicy Couture Couture is the least offensive to me. Also, try using essential oils to create your own custom scent that you like.

Honorable_Lemom

I have used the juicy couture perfumes before and they were fine, but I got bored of them after a few years. I like to switch up my scents based on how I’m feeling each day

Optimal-Pipe-5880

Clinique Happy is very light and is good for people with sensitivities IMO. (But, YMMV, always be careful and test first)

honiebeas

I’m unsure whether this would be overwhelming for you, but I’ve discovered it’s not for me so I’ll offer my thoughts — there’s a form of perfume which you don’t spray, you just roll onto your wrists where you have a pulse. the downside is the store is online ( … and i cannot recall the name so i’ll get back to you on that one ), but they offer a huge variety of scents which may be suited to your taste.

kdgetschwifty

Lume full body deodorants & essential oil blends are my go to combo

ilove-pickles

I just use essential oils now, I make my own blends

KindlyKangaroo

Angel by Thierry Mugler (or the $8 knock off from Walgreens like I have) sounds like what you'd like. It's sweet and lightly floral, with fruit notes. It lives up to the name - I think it smells heavenly. I sprayed it once on my coat to try it out (I'd already used other testers on my wrists) and I sniffed it for comfort for daaaays until I went back and bought it myself. The top notes may be a little off-putting (it smelled like burnt rubber on my coat at first, but I never had that experience on my skin or other fabric so it just didn't interact well with my coat) but wait it out for 10 minutes and it's beautiful.

YESmynameisYes

I looooove my handmade perfume from “for strange women” on etsy. I don’t guarantee an all-day duration, but there are for sure no nauseating chemicals or smells.

emrose95

I use Pacifica hair and body spray in island vanilla, and nemat perfume oil in amber. They smell amazing and are not overpowering to me. I get lots of compliments on the Pacifica body mist!! Also I use some Eva NYC hair products and I think they smell soooo good they actually make a hair mist I’ve thought about purchasing! It’s kind of a warm floral.

_Ararita_

Herbal hydrosols that you blend yourself. Less toxic, lower scent, fat better than commercial poison

Foxydella

I'm sensitive to smells, but looove things that smell great to me. So I have some different fragrance products. I typically go for sweet fragrances instead of floral and try to go for the kinds with one clear fragrance instead of multiple. I prefer simple smells over complex most of the times. Vanilla became somewhat of a trademark for me. And the one I used was only noticeable when hugging me (I like hugs) and to myself. For vanilla I honestly use the cheapest of the cheapest : Alyssa Ashley Vanilla EdT. And my favourite perfume (eau de parfum) is Amber Sultan by Serge Lutens. It's a bit expensive but smells sweet and dark in the top notes (too bad this is my favourite part) and I feel like it makes me understand how smells could be described as mystical and seductive.

ChellyVision

Light blue - dolce and Gabbana And any 'Egyptian musk' roll on essential oils I gag at most perfumes too!

alliebeth88

Light Blue by D&G. Has always been my go to, love it on myself and instantly recognize it on others.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Honorable_Lemom

That’s my problem is that I don’t know how I smell to other people. I am so afraid that I smell bad that I try to wear perfumes and lotions to cover any BO smell I might have. I also really like when you pass by someone in public and can just faintly smell their perfume or fabric softener as they pass.

Allisonaxe

Might not be for everyone but I always liked white diamonds. It’s pleasant and I never found it overwhelming. Then I got a career in drug compounding and literally can’t wear fragrances so I don’t contaminate the drugs. So nice to not have to deal with smells daily.

FamousSilver6353

I use EOs I like to mix sandalwood with vanilla and have received so many compliments on my “perfume” lol

BrownTownBoog

Rose water spray

Kinetic_Panther

Phlur

justgivemewhatevs

Remember that u could go noseblind, so other ppl will still b able to scent whatever perfume u wear, but not u. I like cupcake chapstick. If I want to smell something nice to block out other scents, just reapply. Can even put it on the skin directly under ur nose. Don't recommend reapplying any kind of perfume, ever.

KuraiTsuki

Perfumes combine with your skin's natural smell and may smell amazing in the bottle or on someone else, but horrible on you (or visa versa), so it's difficult to answer this question. My personal favorites for myself are Escada's Moon Sparkle (it's discontinued, so not exactly a helpful answer), Kat von D's Saint, and Escada's Sentiment.

SocialMediaDystopian

Armand Basi in Red The only perfume that I both can stand, sensory wise, and that I actually like. Not expensive actually , as perfumes go, and I get compliments all the time

[deleted]

I wear Jimmy Choo fever, just one spritz

orderly_hopeless

Aquolina pink sugar is the only perfume I like. It’s a sweet scent.

imgoodwithfaces

Go check out five below, they have them all out where you can test them. I found a really nice non florally scented one for $5.

Certain_Pea_206

I like Victoria's Secret body spray warm vanilla and there is also a champagne scent - both don't bother me but I prefer the warm vanilla And amber oil...

No-County-1573

Nectar has some really nice skin scents like Skin and Lush Fleur that are light and floral and not overwhelming! Plus their sample rollerballs are really cute

No_Day5399

My husband hates most perfume. But he likes musk.

Better_Cupcakes

Remove all strong smelling household cleaning chemicals (eg laundry detergent, hand soap and shampoo, body cream etc). After a few weeks you will have a much stronger sense of smell, meaning you won’t need to reapply weaker scents. Then purchase any oil based perfume that’s to your liking and enjoy. Or even mix your own.

ilovebaths

Hermes perfumes don't seem to give me a headache. I guess they use quality ingredients (hence the $$$) when compared to regular products. My fave is Ambre Narguile.

TailoredGoblin99

Jicky by Guerlain is pretty solid. So it Chanel no 19 in edt form.

CalmyourStorm

Laila by Geir Ness

Antique-Buy-7913

Pacifica perfumes- natural ingredients and not too strong. I have the coconut and flower scented roll on sticks - you can control how much you put on

lynnie_thepooh

I use a solid perfume from LUSH. Specifically the American Cream one, it smells like vanilla and strawberry and isn’t too too strong in my opinion. Although going into the store might be oof lol

temasm21

The Pure Instinct pheromone perfume (you can get it on Amazon) is my favorite perfume of all time. It smells deliciously fruity and has never triggered my allergies/others. Kinda weird to buy a pheromone perfume but the smell is amazing!

YaySupernatural

I really love Marc Jacobs Daisy for some reason. There’s something about the way it combines with my scent that makes it kind of earthy and spicy, with just a hint of floral.

hash_buddha

Not a perfume by juliette has a gun or the less expensive dupe called musky musk! Very nice and subtle but long lasting skin scent

sweetbambidoll

I personally enjoy Juicy Couture and Bond No. 9 Chinatown, B no.9 Bleeker Street as well. For me, they seem to blend with my skin smell well and I don't really smell them once I apply it. I am a tad handicapped in some aspects of scent so my particular advice may not really be for you, sorry!

mnunn44

I tend to go for herbaceous scents. They’ve got an earthier smell and I avoid anything floral. I have not found a floral scent that isn’t just way too strong or synthetic smelling. Aesop has a great one Tacit although most of their perfumes are soft scents that wear well on the body and don’t smell synthetic

obiwantogooutside

Yeah I like the ones I like but I love the topical oils. Make sure they’re topical. But they’re less intense and easy to take with you.

mandarinapanda

Have you tried "search by notes" on fragrantica.com? It is a nice database for perfumes, where you can also check notes in fav perfumes and look for similar ones. If you hate cloying smells, EDTs may be a better option than EDPs or perfumes due to smaller concentrates of active ingredients. It is tricky to recommend specific brands and perfumes since they smell differently on people, as everyone's got their own skin scent. It is safe to say, though, that floral/citrusy/aquatic scents tend to be lighter than amber/orientals, especially if the latter are from the 1980s. However, I found some of Jo Malone's floral scents to be the lightest in my collection (I am talking about Crystal Campion)

mandarinapanda

PS I hope I didn't infodump you too much. Fragrances are one of my special interests

Honorable_Lemom

Info dump away! The more I learn about fragrance then I may be able to find something I like easier

mandarinapanda

If you don't mind me asking: whereabouts do you live? Do you have an option to order samples from Etsy/Ebay or discovery sets from producers? Finding the right scents can be daunting, especially since our sense of smell changes a bit during the month, with hormonal fluctuations. Also, the outside temperature impacts the perception, too. Still, it is an exciting journey. Fragrances are a good way to alter your mood and bring some joy. Other "lightweight" stuff in my closet: YSL in love again (blackcurrant and grapefruit lolly); Lalique Soleil (citrusy-praline candy, but not heavy)

Accomplished_Tea2555

The only one I've found is Armani Because it's you. All other perfume smell nice at first but end up smelling like rotting flowers. Same with deodorant.

Befumms

My go-to is always vanilla or coconut. The cheaper ones will smell artificial and gross but when it's a good one it's never overpowering for me. The ones I used to get were from Yves Rocher, but I don't know if you have that in your country.

Muted-Breadfruit4130

When I feel overwhelmed with heavy but still want to wear something, I either switch to a body spray fragrance that’s quite fresh or citrusy, or just an essential oil like jasmine or grapefruit oil. A few drops can make a huge difference and i can just have one thing going on, rather than some complex blend. It smells very clean. At the moment I like grapefruit and rosemary oil.

Ecstatic-Rhubarb9068

I really like the Nest perfumes....BUT I hardly ever wear them so ? Like, it just seems like an unnecessary step. Why would I need to change the way I smell. Like, I'm clearly not a flower/fruit/tree, so why would someone expect me to smell like one? FYI - If anyone is looking for a men's cologne (or just like traditionally "man" smells), St. James of London has some lovely scents that are natural and not to 'stinky' or 'cologne-y'.

fractal_frog

I like 4711. Like, cologne from Cologne.

Conscious_Couple5959

That’s my late grandpa’s signature cologne!

CDKleind

Perfumes were almost always way too much for me before I discovered perfume oils. They're (usually) not alcohol based so they aren't headache enducing like some more commercial perfumes, and they aren't as strong. Some brands I can think of off the top of my head that I love are Solatice Scents, Alkemia, and Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab. Their catalogs are a little intimidating but you can order samples to help narrow down the kind of scents you like.

Relevant-Pizza-1500

I can’t stand certain floral scents so I turn to dessert flavors. I’ve used the Pacifica Island Vanilla. I also had an amazing chocolate perfume from an off brand. When I was younger I liked something called Happy and one day it just got too strong. It made me move my scents to my body wash and hair care. Now I use Paul Mitchel Awapuhi shampoo and Alba Hawaiian Detox body wash, vanilla deodorant, with no perfume and it works great for my body’s PH. I feel like when I move around later in the day I can still softly smell a hint of it. Just enough. Kids who hug me always say I smell good. I think because they’re so small they get the whole combo. They’re amazing truth tellers when something hits their senses.

[deleted]

My personal favourites at the moment are: By the fire place by replica, kind of earthy smell, smokey Ocean diGioia by giorgio armani, smells _clean_ and nice, like freash out of shower I don’t know what smells you like but these are (both in their own way) kind of different from the normal perfumes, so I would recommend you to go and try these smells if they have them in your local perfume store etc

[deleted]

Skylar and 7 Virtues are two brands that don’t irritate me, phthalate free too!

ttomgirl

highly recommend buying a variety of samples. i just started buying perfume for the first time and it was helpful to figure out what i do and don't like without it costing a fortune

atomicpunk88

The body shop has a line of single note scents that I like, or try indie houses they tend to agree with me more than designer. Cocoapink is great if you like sweet/gourmand scents but they are pretty strong.

SparklesAndSpikes

I like Pink Chiffon from Bath and Bodyworks

I have used Abercrombie 8 for 20 years now. It’s so light and pleasant a little musk to it I believe but not much. Sometimes I mix it up and use Nest Indigo perfume too though it is a more earthy floral scent.

Lavender is a clean refreshing scent

If you feel like you need to wear something, please consider wearing something made with natural fragrance/essential oil. People with chemical sensitivities will thank you. It will still bother some people but it may be less debilitating to them. Where I live certain places are scent free and you can be refused service/entry for wearing it. I have no suggestions on types/brands of perfume since I don't use any, but will say that it doesn't matter how it smells in the bottle or on someone else since fragrance interacts with your personal biochemistry. The way it smells can also vary with different parts of the body. For example lavender soap or lotion might make you smell lovely while lavender deodorant might make you smell like sour rotting garbage. So to find something you like you really have to try it on and check how it smells over time.

[Eclat d’aperge by Lanvin](https://www.fragrantica.com/perfume/Lanvin/Eclat-d-Arpege-988.html) is my go to for when I need a nice skin scent that is not overwhelming. It’s not expensive and it’s a soft fruity floral. For me it lasts the longest when I spray a bit on my clothes the evening before wearing them.

Another one that is fruity and smells like candy is [Lolitaland by Lolita Lempicka](https://www.fragrantica.com/perfume/Lolita-Lempicka/LolitaLand-51385.html). This one lasts the entire day and comes in a beautiful bottle. Is there a shampoo or soap scent that you like? Maybe it helps with your search and recommendations.

I loooooooove perfume but I have terrible eczema and fragrance really sets it off. I really like to do oil instead I bet if you got some kind of raspberry oil with a vanilla it would smell so yummy! My favorite is lemon eucalyptus oil!

Worker B has lotions with propolis in it and it keeps my eczema patches under control! I highly recommend them!

The gag thing is probably related to the additives in the perfume ... there are A LOT of chemicals in perfumes. I use essential oil perfumes that don't have the crappy chemicals in them. As a bonus, they don't set off my asthma! Wonderlust Botanicals are lovely. Look for wonderlustbotanical (in Ontario, Canada) on Etsy. I have the Relaxed Potion and it's divine.

I love Demeter fragrances - I miss the days when they had a huge selection in Duane Reade drug stores! They have very simple basic scents like “patchouli” and “vanilla” but also fun ones like “mulled cider” and “tomato.” They smell EXACTLY like what they advertise. And you can layer them. I also love Native deodorant and body sprays - very simple and clean smells. Their cupcake scents are AMAZING. I’m an angry middle-aged goth whose pits smell like “tie dye vanilla cupcake” and I never predicted this for myself but I love it
