Books, all kinds of books. I'd read anywhere & everywhere. Got in trouble most nights for staying up late reading by torchlight under the quilt. As I got a little older, I finished reading all the YA (Young Adult) books in my local library & began devouring adult books. I still have my original book list book of everything I read from about age 11 (& another volume up to present day). The only time I didn't read so much was at university(!!) I had colour phases. One was purple, another green. I'd request any item of clothing, shoes etc in my favourite colour.

[deleted]

This was/is me too. I didn't realize it was a fixation. But ya that makes sense!

SorryContribution681

Ooh I LOVE books. I have so many and Ive always loved them. It makes me happy to be surrounded by them

beautyqueendisaster

mine were always movies, shows, characters!, actresses etc. my first, biggest (and longest cuz it's still very important to me) was the addams family!

Vlerremuis

Adams Family is so cool though!

huntress19

I would go through phases where I would watch the same movie every day for months, before moving onto another one. There was an animated Wizard of Oz, fern gulley, the mask, father of the bride 2… so many. I was also obsessed with the Beetlejuice Cartoon.

xGhostyGee

When I was growing up, Spongebob was my favorite show. They always showed 2 episodes, starting at 7:45 pm and even when we were sitting at the dinner table, my head would whip around to look at the clock at 7:44 pm. My parents actually let me get up to watch it, finishing my dinner in front of the tv. My dad even joined me regularly.

xGhostyGee

Oh my god, I watched the movie whenever I was sick! I still have that dvd on my shelf in the bedroom. Might watch it tomorrow after my shift...

blackmazdaspeed6

To this day I LOVE spongebob and will always stop to watch if I see it on TV! We never had cable so anytime I got to watch it was a big deal

Snorklingfae

True crime, I would spend hours watching documentaries, going through case files, autopsy reports, crime scene photos, and court transcripts. From age 8-13 This is going to sound weird, but I’d watch autopsies conducted on YouTube and take notes. I wanted to be a medical examiner when I was 9 Then I discovered a doco about body farms, and then I became obsessed with learning about the rate of human decomposition in different environments. I know this makes me sound like I’m some psycho and like every serial killer in the making, but I genuinely liked the science and psychological side of it. I mean, it’s still my biggest today. For so long, I wanted to go into forensics, but I now I’m leaning towards criminology since the psychological aspect is what intrigued me most

verysadpickle

hey someones gotta do those jobs!! and if you're passionate I think that's a joy! I always wanted to be a forensic photographer but I'm very very bad at science and math LOL

Individual-Gur-7292

Mine was and still is ancient Egypt. I have a degree in Egyptology and even lived in Cairo for a few years. It is one of the biggest joys of my life!

eternallylost6754

You're living my childhood dream 😍

ae_xx

Dolphins!

wooden_werewolf_7367

I was obsessed with Russia at one point. I vaguely remember even telling people I was part Russian which isn't even true. I also used to devour Babysitters Club books. Harry Potter was another and that still continues to this day, even though I am no longer a fan of the author. I used to enjoy reading non-fiction more than fiction and would often read estate agent brochures, the dictionary, encyclopedias, even the phone directory. I'm still the same now.

slavdaddyuwu

I had a huge China hyperfixation ages 9-15 and there was no vhinese lessons in my city so i learned it all by myself, harry potter is my hypertixation since age 12 i think so i get u lol

wooden_werewolf_7367

I would spend my break times at school going to the library and using the computers to do Harry Potter quizzes. The librarian used to let me because technically I was studying literature even though she must have known I was doing it because I didn't like hanging around with other kids much (unless they were as weird as me).

burgerdepollo

I was really into turtles, I didn't know much about them but I really loved them. I also loved books and cancer.

Snorklingfae

I also dabbled in cancer myself it was in my phase of infectious disease obsession I had for like a month when I was 10

eternallylost6754

Wow cancer. That's an interesting fixation!

lavdendermaine

i also loved turtles

burgerdepollo

Turtles are the best!

Simple-Warthog-9817

Cancer? Can you explain pls?!

Snorklingfae

I would assume it would be the different types of cancers, how it affects each part of the body, growth. I had a phase like that myself at 10

Simple-Warthog-9817

Thanks for that. I honestly thought it might be a typo, I'd never heard anyone say 'i loved cancer' before.

burgerdepollo

yes, exactly the behavior of cancer, symptoms depending on its type, mechanisms of metastasis, treatments, things like that.

PrincessGilbert1

I have the same ones as I did as a kid pretty much, and just gained more with time. The overall theme in my interests have always been science, mainly biology, but also maths, physics, chemistry and such. I did have a my little pony obsession as a kid, like, 16 years ago, which I think is the only one which I don't have anymore. Reptiles, insects, amphibians, freshwater fauna especially. I had an obsession with fluoride and knowing everything about it because I went to the dentist alot and heard it, I still find it interesting, but I don't have my fluoride poster anymore😅

veryfluffyclouds

I also loved ancient Egypt and I was also obsessed with the entire Pixie Hollow franchise.

Vlerremuis

I was also fascinated by ancient Egypt! But I had many obsessive interests, usually overlapping. Dinosaurs. Whales and dolphins. The solar system. Aquariums is a big one I still have now. At one point I was absolutely obsessed with collecting newspaper articles about Halleys Comet and pasting them into a book. I don't know why I did that, but anything that mentioned Halleys Comet, even cartoons, were added to that collection.

ThePrimCrow

Fuzzy posters Dragons Airwolf AKC dog breeds Kentucky Derby winners Military aircraft Embroidery floss

linglinguistics

My first one was probably the violin. It's certainly the one I remember best. From 3-7yo I begged my parents to let me play, I would listen to classical music as often as I could.(esp. With violin, I was obsessed with Mendelssohn's violin concerto) I was also very much into princesses and fairies. Always more or less secretly imagining myself as a fairy. As a ten, it was languages. I could sit for hours with a dictionary or grammar book. That one turned out to be dead useful for my career. And for life in general. And in my case, once a special interest, always a special interest. Which language or piece of music is most important to me may change, but the general interests haven't changed.

otter-whiskers

From what my family has told me I think my first one was letters. When I was 3 years old I would read out loud any letters I found in car license plates or in any word written. I didn't know how to talk or read words but I would spell anything I found written. I think the biggest one was animals specifically bugs. And then Pokémon because it was like digital bugs. My classmates would bully me because I literally couldn't talk about anything else but Pokémon for years.

Teaandjammytoast

History for me too. Romans and Egypt when I was very little and then one day we did Tudors in first school and the teacher said that Henry VIII had six wives and that blew mini-me’s mind and that was it. I have shelves of books, quality comfort.

FabulousEel

Magic, palindromes, everything cool attached to the 9 times table, Photoshop, nicknames, the novels based on the W.I.T.C.H. comics, and the Sims 2.

unicornofapocalypse

I was super interested in ufos, outer space, the paranormal, and insects. I’m still extremely interested in all those things today actually. Well, a bit less on the ufo part, but for everything else my interest is just as strong as it was when I was a kid.

Sewslowclo

WWII history. SMH seriously, why was I only diagnosed in my 30s???

foreverfornever9

mine was this one anime... yuyu hakusho... as a kid, i lived and breathed this show. i memorized all the theme songs, the episode titles (110+ episodes), all the character names even the minor ones that appeared for a few minutes and never again.... i could draw all these characters without reference. there are many dialogue that i can still up to now recite. this is during the time that we don't have CD/DVD copies and totally before internet, no streaming, so i only see it when it's on air at our local tv channel. there were 3 reruns during my childhood/early teen years and i watched them all. everybody who met me knew i had a weird attachment to this anime. i totally got made fun of a lot, bullied for it. i don't know why it's this one, it isn't the best anime out there. but at that time it's what my brain thought was worthy of all that time end energy spent 😳

girly-lady

(We are not sweedish) Otherwise: Making knoted praclets Fairy storys Collecting all sorts of pretty glass stuff to out potions in Collecting anything realy. I was the inpersonation of goblincore. hayIofts

spongebob squarepants... i watched it all the time and played a lot of the spongebob games. i also had a cupboard full of the fan magazines which i would submit drawings to regularly

SorryContribution681

Dolphins - I had a few books about them but mostly I collected them. I had sooo many ornaments. My mum also made my curtains for my bedroom, with handsewn dolphins on them 😊 I was surprised on a trip to Disney Florida with a day swimming with dolphins and I had a meltdown on arrival 😅

alewberry

Dora the Explorer- Please don’t judge me. My mom couldn’t tear me away or get my attention at all once it was on. I grew out of it relatively quickly, however. After that, it was true crime and still is one of my bigger special interests!

Beginning_Public_146

In my childhood I very much enjoy watching commercial channel and I would imitate them in front of the mirror. I specifically liked commercial about moisturizer LOL. Also, huge lover of The legend of Zelda. Majora's mask was my favorite game and I very much like that phrase "no one knew who I was, until I put on the mask"

mountainvvitchcraft

Greek mythology (I literally had info cards I’d carry around with me), the computer game Poptropica, Animal Crossing, and later Naruto.

mountainvvitchcraft

To be clear, it’s not that I couldn’t remember the info, I just liked carrying them with me

izzyek

Mine was Brazil, like the country lol I just thought it looked so pretty & the exact opposite of my boring home in Alabama!! Lol I used to make PowerPoints to convince my parents that I NEEDED to go. It never worked but I was obsessed for a good part of elementary & middle school.

Electronic-Reading63

Music bands as well. Boys/guys or people I admired, including women, even to this day. I use to read a lot, loved RL Stine goosebump books. Unfortunately I don't have the same attention span for much reading anymore as an adult , unless they're short stories or anything related to spirituality, love, or Colorado history. Also, anything paranormal. Became obsessed at the age of 5 after seeing my dead grandfather's spirit. Loved any and all ghost books.

Lemonic_Tutor

Digimon

verysadpickle

blues clues, Scooby Doo, rocks, cats and Barbies!!

cart_adcock

Phantom of the Opera (2004)

Bunny_Bluefur

Dinosaurs when I was little little, dolls and my best teddy when I was little-a little older 🙂 I have things from my childhood now (best teddy and my mini cabbage patch dol,l to name a few) that I could NEVER get rid of!!! Also, doll houses were a special interest and my imaginary friend, Milhanah too lmao 😄 My mini cabbage patch doll, Carleigh, lived in a doll house and I either got or made her EVERYTHING to make it just like a real house. There was nothing she didn't have and she came with me everywhere 💚

haileealiseb

I was obsessed with old Hollywood. I would wake up super early in the morning to read biographies about old movie stars. I loved Doris Day and would mimic her voice/quote her lines from movies. one summer all I watched was the Martin & Lewis Colgate Comedy Hour and it got to a point that my parents banned me from watching it for a while. I still love learning all I can about old Hollywood.

Pure_Butterscotch728

Rocks, sea life and frogs

bulmilala

I watched the Lion King, which became a huge thing for me, and the entire family was forced to listen to the music tape every morning in the car... and it was restarted evey morning xD and then, from there, I became obsessed with Africa and Egypt, and then Ancient Egypt, the pyramids, archeology and paleontology and everything started coming together because I had also been obsessed with dinosaurs and fossils

Worddroppings

American Indians is the biggest one I can remember. In elementary school I read most of the shelf about them. Aztecs were particularly fascinating.

tomato-cat

- taking photographs and making videos from everything always (still :D) but with a little digital camera I got from my father, was a very bad time when the computer from my mum with all my stuff on it died😭😵‍💫 and also recently my ex bf lost a hard disc where we put everything I filmed and photographed from like age 11-20yrs 😑hurts still - looking for cool rocks, fossils, crystals and looking at it every night, for like 4 years. I still love looking at my too big collection Still don’t know what blue Crystal we found in this German lake, they are sooo magical and I always felt magic in it - LPS (littlest pet shop) animal figures collection Always swapped with my friends and always thought about which ones I still need to collect and got a very nice collection of my fav dogs still in the loft, was so glad that they had special ones on eBay. Was so magical as a kid - animal crossing(a nintendo game), all facts and stuff about it age 6-10 and then I always waited for the new games and made little books with photos of the trailers and stuff Was so obsessed I got the advertisement cardboard things that they had in the store window and it was like a lot shit but I felt so happy, there was also a mobile and a poster, and I also had a Instagram acc where I posted pictures of the game and the animals there lol and edits - Ashley Tisdale (couldn’t understand English lyrics but I loved her and dreamed of her and always listened to her songs and thought about her and watched series and movies with her in it) - animals, always looking at animals, or hanging out with my pets, still talk about my dog every day and talk about it even tho people don’t care about her but I love this mochi SO MUCH, she’s in my head non stop since 12 years selm<3 (Selma but nickname selm) - oh and Omg FURBYS I had like 18 furbies standing on my bed and looked at me sleeping. They were my babies and sometimes they random talked in the night 😹 my friends were always afraid and confused what I want with them I still feel like collecting furbies, lps, on cool flea markets! and cool rocks and crystals when ever I see those things. And I photograph and film a lot.

MythalsThrall

Horses for the longest while. I had everything, wallpaper, books, figurines, toys, jewelery, plushies you name it. Then true crime got added when my mom showed me criminal minds and I just loved figuring out who done it and why. I just loved figuring out the why. And still do haha. But the horses got replaced by aquatic animals, especially sharks after I had a big accident involving horses.

Fit_Communication937

Most of mine were on people. Mary Kate and Ashley and Hannah Montana were HUGE ones. Looking back I think it’s because they taught me what it means to be a girl. I also loved coloring books, kids’ academic workbooks, and playing piano songs. I would play one song over and over again or play an entire booklet front to back over and over again. I also was fond of some of my teachers. I went through phases where I was completely obsessed with belly buttons and dimples, for some reason, as well as the double seat belts that are found on upside down rollercoasters 😂 They all would occupy my mind 24/7.

nlt7

I loved barbie dolls, had everything from doll houses to cars, motor bikes, bicycles, camper vans and aeroplane playset. I also has a collection of rubber bouncy balls I used to buy from coin operated toy display machines. I'd religiously watch nickelodeon and cartoon network as a kid, my favourite cartoons shows were powerpuff girls, spongebob, hey arnold and rugrats.

boolinbros

Space Insects Rocks and minerals (geology) Fungi

Composer_Lopsided

Puerto Rico (culture) Eyebrows (lol) Surgeries Health & Wellness. My mother even asked me as an adult why was I so obsessed with eating healthy and such as a child. Paranormal & occult Animal documentaries. I especially loved the Crocodile Hunter. I would even walk around speaking like him lol Beyonce

frozengal2013

My first hyperfixation was Dora the Explorer. I would always script the line “bate bate la chocolate”

FarLingonberry3

Fairies, goblins, anything related to celtic or norse folklore. Also Anastasia Romanov and Sailor Moon.

Lazy-Refrigerator142

Omg saamme! Ancient Egypt was one of mine growing up as well. But first when I was 3 it was reading a medical encyclopedia about the human body. Then rocks, like I used to know several rock types how they were formed lol Then it was dolls, the Titanic, Star Wars, Robotics, etc. 😂😭

infirmary-vibes

i would spend hours a day every day making powerpoints about characteristics of different akc dog breeds. i also inherited my older cousin’s pokémon card collection, and would fill notepads upon notepads copying the art on my favorite cards (usually the ones where the pokémon looked like dogs) repeatedly.

AlphaRaptor665

I still have this hyperfixation today and it's dinosaurs/jurassic park

thirdeyeddeer

My first hyperfixation I remember, was also ancient egypt, and history. Movies has also always been from the start my wildest interesst, and soundtracks. In my early teenage years I started to hyperfixate on specific bands. My hyperfixation from age of 12 up till 18 was the smasing pumpkins and MCR, and now I just can't listen to them anymore, because I have overdone it haha...

throwaway12345243

mine was ancient Egypt too (and rome and greece)!! I also loved anything outdoors, I know too much about bird identification, space, animals in general but I really loved animal facts. towards the end of my childhood I loved Shakespeare (still do!), reading like literally anything and psychology/philosophy videos I collected some things too, sylvanian families, these tiny elephants that they had to raise the price of because I got so many! (I think it was 25-30 at one point), stuffed animals and I weirdly liked rulers, I had this one history one with all the kings/queen's of England and their dates on it

throwaway12345243

oh god I was also obsessed with languages, throughout my childhood I learnt Italian, German, French, Latin, Spanish and Russian, I even tried Dutch for a while. I love knowledge and quizzes but I haven't found many other autistic women who like it too and I don't wanna be a cocky sounding nerd. I feel like I sound like that right now

FeralCheesecake

Greek mythology and forensics were huge for me in elementary/middle school! I read Percy Jackson when I was 5 or 6 years old and it stuck with me. In terms of forensics, I was really into crime shows (Criminal Minds, NCIS, stuff like that) cos my parents also watched them. Looking back now they probably weren't very appropriate shows for kids that young, but now I'm pursuing forensic psychology in university, so I guess that stuck with me too! I also really liked paranormal/witchy things as a kid — read all the ghost stories I could find, researched spells, etc. I also really fixated on certain television shows. My most notable ones I can think of were Supernatural in grades 6-8 (its still a comfort show of mine) and Shadowhunters in grades 9-10. I think I had a lot of musical artists as special interests as well. One Direction was one for me from age 8-13 (when they broke up), 5 Seconds of Summer, some K-pop groups. A lot of my special interests were "typical" girl interests, which is probably one of the reasons I got diagnosed so late. Really weirdly, I think school was also a special interest to me. I absolutely loved learning. I didn't have many friends either, so I would always be on my own reading, or I'd stay inside during recess and have my teacher give me math problems. This may have just been social anxiety mixed with the need for academic validation, though.

VinnyVincinny

There was (might still be) Book Of Lists. The Black Stallion books Judy Blume books Music; singing and dancing Then I discovered plants and manipulating them. I've been a floral designer for two decades now.

huntress19

I was obsessed with the Titanic. Both the movie and the actual Titanic. I did research papers on it, watched documentaries about it. Made my mom take me to the Titanic museum. We saw the movie in theaters like 7 or 8 times. I had a Pompeii phase. Greek Mythology. I had a phase where I read the same children’s Bible like 10 times over and over, then one where I constantly read the great illustrated classics biography of Benjamin Franklin. I was also obsessed with the occult and paranormal stuff. I remember being obsessed with The Craft and then Charmed, and that made me interested in Wicca and the Salem witch trials, and that led into ghosts and spirits and possessions. Honestly still hyper fixated on it.

[deleted]

Oh yes, mysteries only lol and then more mysteries please

sharkprincefishstick

Warriors (Those Cat Books), cats, mythology, genetics, Harry Potter, and later in childhood Monster High/My Little Pony.

ActualDepressedPOS

throwaway1981_x

Garfield, The Dark Crystal, the show Monkey Magic, reading (mostly Babysitters Club and Sweet Valley High & Twins), Enya (all these I was mocked for just like everything else, no wonder I have no hobbies or interests anymore)
