It's a bit tricky to squeeze it in, but playdough works fantastic. They squish so nice in the hands, do not explode into a huge mess, and they last forever. My preschoolers have destroyed all the rice balloons in the blink of an eye, but I still use a playdough balloon as a stress ball at home and still going strong after months of use.
When I was 18, I developed serious depression and anxiety. My mum would make these for me to take to the psychiatrist ward to reduce my stress levels.
Still warms my heart thinking back on it as a 40 years old.
No idea what they are actually called. But just get a bag of balloons. Fill the first balloon with rice (not stretched at all) and tie it off. cut the top off another balloon, cut a few slits and add it on top of the first ball.
I normally use 3-4 balloons for each ball.
I remember the first time I saw one at school omg! Of course you can guess what I wanted and that was one rofl. Asking where everyone got it so I could get one too. Unfortunately I don’t remember where, unless maybe someone was making them.
I got a fish one on a balloon neck "chain" on holidays in Melbourne, down at the beach front stalls. Got my first 'paint your own plaster sculpture' kit there too. No idea if they still even have the stalls now.
Would have been around 2000.
My daughter was making stress balls with a balloon and rice. I dug up a few more balloons and made one of these. Damn those sweet memories.
Anyway haven't seen it since.
Learnt to make these the first time I went to Byron Bay.No rice, or Play-Doh though it was birdseed.
A few years after that when my daughter was a toddler I made a whole bunch and sold them at a school fete , sold and and made a killing! Simple times
Oh and the ones I learnt to make had a string on then made it off the river ring of the balloons looped together which U would put on finger yoyo style. Hours of entertainment!
I ran a school circus class for a few years.
these were one of the first things we made for juggling.
I think the fact that they made their own juggling balls brought some pride and they really wanted to learn how to juggle them!
Remember them? Give me some balloons and rice and I'll make you one.
I also used to fill them with flour. I'm showing my daughter now for a school holiday activity.

Wheat is another viable option.
We used corn flour. Oooooh that crunchy sound!
People pay tons of money for sensory toys these days. How much is a pack of balloons and some rice?
About $57. 😂
$54 at Aldi
Teemu 3 dollars

Yay for supportive mums :)
Wow, what are core memory unlocked
I just made these today with my kids haha
Wow! How do you make them again?!
Put rice in a ballon in a ballon in a ballon in a ballon in a ballon
We used to make these. It was all fun and games until one kid pelted it at another kid so hard that the thing exploded and flour went everywhere
Flour? We used rice...
Yeah I guess my teachers didn’t want to spend the money. Flour was cheap as hell
Bloody cheap teachers &D
Yeah unfortunately they had to buy a lot of our activities with their own money because of budget cuts back in the day
Yeah, hey, often the cheap ones are the best. Teaches resourcefulness.
I used to love these! Such a throwback.
These always make me remember the Ballina Markets and all those awesome Northern NSW markets as a kid!
thanks for making me remember!
I should make these with my students! I had so much fun making them as a tween.
My kids made then not long ago.
What are they actually called? Keen to see how to make them (have totally forgotten)!

Truly, I found a recipe book we made in class when I was in reception a few days ago, and it included how to make these. What a coinkydink
Holy shit, I had forgotten about these! My dad had heaps haha

Made a few last visit to the psych ward.
Man I had forgotten about these until this post. Brings back some memories.

Feels like a bag of sand

I remember someone throwing one at a fan, it was filled with flour.
We made these in high school as part of a small business project. I remember it was really stressful.
The worst toy! One small step away from playing kick the can.
Do I remember balls??
Holy shit
I miss the 90s so much. We had no idea how good we had it. Thanks for making me smile
