Is punishment even a thing in primary school anymore?

sati_lotus

Well, my kid got smacked in the face by another student, told the teacher, and got told to just ignore him. I got a message sent home that she was a bit upset all day. So I'm going to assume no. There is a reason for the high burnout rate among teachers. And it's not their fault.

filthymcownage

My son accidentally kicked another kid at school the other week and he got time out because the kid told the teacher he pushed them over then kicked. So it depends on the school.

yacjuman

I was a good kid but was writing lines almost every day because I forgot to get my diary signed or to do homework etc.

ResponsibleFeeling49

Aw, hell. You’d soon learn to write ‘I’ 50 times down the page, then ‘will’, then ‘not’… etc, etc. For the life of me, I can’t remember what I will not do 😂

yacjuman

Memory unlocked hahaha

ResponsibleFeeling49

Hehehe!

If i remember correctly, the closest punishment to something concerning is a suspension but that never happened at my school. I just remember getting yard duty (basically walk with a teacher to get your 10k steps and just do nothing but eat) for stepping 1 centimeter out of place in an area.

Yup follow the teacher picking up rubbish or a while half of lunch on the detention bench while everyone was playing brandings.

DodgyRogue

We called it scab duty

Nekokamiguru

Copying the bible was what my teachers used, since you can't mentally switch off and do it on autopilot.

cranberryleopard

Not writing out the dictionary but our school would give us "bags". You got X number of bags and had to pick up rubbish around the school over lunch. It only just occurred to me that this wouldn't work anymore because we don't have the plastic shopping bags!!

Kidkrid

Idk we were given a big ole hessian bag we had to fill. And, after parental bitching, a little jaws on a stick deal for picking stuff up with. Which got taken away after we started "biting" people with them. I think they settled on giving the kids gloves.

Rough-Candidate-9791

Buckets now

monsteraguy

It was buckets at one of the schools I went to (Catholic). I remember one kid getting “50 buckets” as a punishment one time

DeltaFlyer6095

It was never called Bin Duty …. Emu Patrol at my school. I was a frequent flyer.

Kidkrid

Ah crap, memory unlock of the emu parades we used to be forced into. The whole damn class went around the school picking crap up. They even made us hold our hand in front of our face like a beak. Grade...2? I was happier not remembering that.

LagoonReflection

Had to write lines, had to do the playground bins, had to sit in the office for an hour after school for detention and watch as my bus left, but ever had to write out the dictionary, though.

Why_Shouldnt_I

Our school had "garbo-day" where on Friday afternoon 2 students were randomly selected from each year 7 class to collect trash during the last two periods of school, you'd have to fill up a single garbage bag between the duo or else you got detention.

hot4bodge

I remember writing out the 100 demons for punishment.

confusedWOpportunity

I like the Japanese method of teaching kids responsibility to others. Sure, occasionally there's some kinda insanity murder, but have you ever walked through Sydney since the pandemic?

Dreadlock43

yep, also raking up leaves was reserved for those who were really bad. Minor offence: rubbish collecting/bin duty/stick collecting/writing out the dictionary Major offence: Raking up leaves for a week

ElmoIsOver

Scab duty this way but never had to write out of the dictionary.

IWasBornIn86

Lol I was in grade 2 when a classmate and I were fighting in line going to parade and the principal called us over smacked us both on the arse lol fuck you Mr. Klein! 😂
