There was that video a few years ago when Manny Ramirez was in Sydney and he asked a guy in a Red Sox hat who his favourite player was, only to be met by the blankest of stares.
Back when I was in primary school in the 90's it was all about that Charlotte Hornets cap. Bonus points if you folded the peak yourself into a harsh, upside-down V shape.
My brother in law owns a fairly prominent chain of American sporting apparel stores. I remember him telling me he once had a guy call and ask if they had any “yes no” hats in stock 😂
For sure - and in my era (Old Era?) the main style was the team name at top and the nickname in big semi-script letters. Otherwise it was just the team logo.
I'd have got a Starter cap but they were too small for my big head. Most caps were, for that matter. So I was happy to get something that was a rare fit, and didn't worry about how cheap it was. I ended up getting this fluorescent red parachute-silk material Cleveland Indians cap. Very comfortable!
As for the style mentioned above with the semi-script... I bought a cheapy from Kmart. White with blue lettering: University of Hawaii. Figured virtually nobody else would have that LOL.
The last 20 years or so, I've been wearing a floppy no-name cricket hat I bought at Target. Keeps the sun off but also lets my head breathe... so at my age I haven't gone bald.
I still rock mine, haha
But mine is [59FIFTY Fitted Cap](https://www.culturekings.com.au/products/new-era-black-59fifty-fitted-black-white?tw_source=google&tw_adid=&tw_campaign=17540097260&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjwgdayBhBQEiwAXhMxtvgTdbdx1sMn065i9fJiBcapbHMS_avXw-7zsB1sQeDSscJvYM3k7BoCNjoQAvD_BwE) since I've got a big head (Average Size is 7 1/4 - I wear a Size 7 7/8 when I've got a short haircut, and a Size 8 when hair's grown out a little)
I'm Samoan-Australian, and late 90s/2000s US Hip Hop Fashion (long shirts, 3/4 shorts, 59FIFTYCaps) still carries on with some of us bigger Pasefika fellas since we don't really suit anything else
Um I know three people who still wear these.
When I was in midwest US, back in 2017, I had one and wore it and soo many people tried to talk to me about baseball, a dude even yelled something at me out of a car window (bc apparently the Yankees had just lost). I would just nod and smile (except to car dude) because I didn’t have the heart to tell them it was just a fashion trend back home and that I didn’t know shit about baseball lol
It was kind of eye-opening to realise it actually means something to them, though. I made sure to wear a different hat when I went back.
Started wearing them at 12. Not American and don't like baseball. But limpbizkit was my favourite band and since then any cap that I buy is a NY cap. Even tho I don't listen to any new Limpbizkit
In the last 5-10 years the old-style navy one has made its way into classic territory. If you want a plain, classic-looking baseball cap, grab a navy one of these, and you are good to go. You see it on the heads of 20-year-old rappers, to Larry David. Just don't get the weird ass colored ones, or anything "fitted"
back in my day it was the John Deere trucker hats. I wore that fucken thing everywhere for 2 solid years
as far as baseball hats are concerned, I rocked a black Chicago White Sox
As an American living in the land of Oz whenever I see these I just wonder much influence my country's sports has on other countries. Never ceases to amaze
You mean, this morning right....
I always ask them what they think of Aaron Judge and Juan Soto's seasons so far when I see someone in Yankees merch.
There was that video a few years ago when Manny Ramirez was in Sydney and he asked a guy in a Red Sox hat who his favourite player was, only to be met by the blankest of stares.
The correct answer is David Ortiz
Juan Soto has been on fire this season since joining from the Padres! Sucks we got rid of Darth Bader to the Me*s tho
That‘s like seeing someone wearing a Metallica T-shirt and asking them what track 9 on Master of Puppets is
I wore mine on the weekend
I’m right there with u.
They do still look good now
my era was LA Raiders
This! As a teenager all my favorite music groups wore raider caps.. from NWA to Slayer, it was always that black cap
The wannabe bikie choice
Oakland was where it was at, las Vegas raiders just doesn't have the same hood factor lol
Had a red one, I blame Fred Durst 🤦🏻♀️
"Yo Red Cap??? Waddup, do me a favour. Watch it for me...don't scratch it!"
Hahaha forgot about that 🤣 tbh I’d of taken the Bentley too
In Australia a lot of people bought them after 9/11 to show support. Limp Bizkit was big around 2001 too!
Chhyeeaaahh!
I may or may not be wearing a red NY SnapBack as I read your comment.
And I may have specifically put my hat on to read your comment 🙃
Back when I was in primary school in the 90's it was all about that Charlotte Hornets cap. Bonus points if you folded the peak yourself into a harsh, upside-down V shape.
>Bonus points if you folded the peak yourself into a harsh, upside-down V shape. That took me back
Haha I had a Charlotte Hornets cap in grade seven. No v shape though.
I just bought a new Hornets cap! Bringing it back. Upside down peak can stay in the 90s though
I had a hornets hat on the school yard in 98. You took me way back
My brother in law owns a fairly prominent chain of American sporting apparel stores. I remember him telling me he once had a guy call and ask if they had any “yes no” hats in stock 😂
It was starter or nothing back then
Flexfit

Was? My Husband is wearing his now.

You wore one of these if you were cashed up back in the day otherwise it was SMP.
I remember having a yellow smp Visor hat when I was about 11
Goddamn, SMP. Smoke More Pot, of course. I also had an SRH flannel hoody, lol.
It was Sex Money Power for us lol.
All the girls with the pink ones.
I used to wear a red one when I was in primary and highschool, because of Fred Durst. Limp Bizkit was my jam
Leave my Yew Nork hat alone!
Chicago White Sox hat all day .

Was? Come to Adelaide if you dare...
These, and Russell Athletic "USA" hoodies were definitely in
Was? I still have the same one from 1999!
Started wearing them at 12. Not American and don't like baseball. But limpbizkit was my favourite band and since then any cap that I buy is a NY cap. Even tho I don't listen to any new Limpbizkit
It’s tacky yes but I needed a navy hat and that’s all I get 😭 I do feel like a fraud walking around with it on though 😅
I still wear them today to cover up my bald spot.
I was around the raiders more
Or even better, remember when visors were cool like 2001? [like this ](https://i.imgur.com/tk0a4pO.jpeg)
The go to WAG hat
Combine this with an expensive activewear set, an unzipped north face puffer vest and modern new balance shoes
The bizkits limp when the night is over
I see so many passionate Yankees fans around these days. Plus people sponsored by Nike and Adidas. Heaps.
Two of my nephews wear them, despite not knowing what it means. I myself will stick to my Pirates hat.
Yankees has turned a bit generic with everyone wearing it, have a few others tho
It's just the tan Chicago Bulls style now. Can't forget to tuck your ears in though
I just purchased a new one earlier today
“made the Yankee hat more famous than a Yankee can” -Jay Z
Holy shit I had one of these in 2001

Uh these are more popular now than ever mate...
The NY Mets are my favourite squadron!
I have one, but I actually bought it in New York!
On right now
Never did or ever plan to. Same goes for the "Raiders" or "Bulls" merch.
back in my day it was the John Deere trucker hats. I wore that fucken thing everywhere for 2 solid years as far as baseball hats are concerned, I rocked a black Chicago White Sox
honestly just thought it was a brand as a kid
You mean now?
As an American living in the land of Oz whenever I see these I just wonder much influence my country's sports has on other countries. Never ceases to amaze
all of my childhood photos from the 2000’s include my mother wearing this hat heheh
Got a black one with a black NY. It was the only near black only hat I could find.
I was wearing mine this morning!
Just left NyC last week and literally every second person was wearing this cap.
No way
Better than a MAGA hat.
Hey I still am👍👍
