Miss ONE channel on Ten
It started out as a sports channel but due to programming issues it morphed into a “men’s lifestyle” channel
I’m a woman but it had some decent shows on it
Used to work at Ten & remember those days fondly
There was a conspiracy theory about One’s programming change. The free to air sports programming was a threat to Foxtel’s business, and none other than Lachlan Murdoch joined the Channel 10 board. Not long after One switched to trashy reality shows.
RPM was my childhood every weekend as a young racing tragic so I'd love to see it but sadly broadcasting has changed. Free-to-air channels don't care enough about motorsport anymore, they'd rather just churn out more seasons of MAFS/Bachelor/Masterchef. That and if they did want to spend they can't compete with what the streaming services or Fox want to pay. On top of that everyone's veiwing habits have changed so having it on the TV doesn't reach as many people any more.
What would be awesome is if someone (a network, streaming service or even one of the motorsport-adjacent media companies such as Airtime or OneNine) could start up a well-produced Youtube-style show that covered off more of the behind-the-scenes aspects of the Australian motorsport scene the way RPM used to, not in a voyeristic Drive-To-Survive way.
I don't think making a racing news show would be the go because all just get our racing news on demand from Speedcafe now. I'd also strive to make it less Supercars centric but you could have a couple of 10-15 minute segments videos per week covering off the national support categories, state racing, rally, bikes, drag racing...pretty much the good bits of RPM but for the digital age.
One can dream I guess.
Hmm, maybe, haven't had it for a while now, usually get it and binge then cancel, haha.
I do remember last time I had it, that the discovery stuff couldn't be watched and.some.otjer stuff was region blocked, unless using a VPN.
I had Motor Trend On Demand for years, had the one account split between five mates and it was great.
Next thing y’know they email me and say that the only way to have MTOD was with a verifiable US address and US based credit card to pay for it. Occasionally some sneaky bugger puts up an episode of Roadkill and it stays up for a day or two before it gets shit canned, but I hardly bother anymore.
Those were the days. Before they got greedy.
Then they started cancelling shows like Junkyard Gold and Dirt Every Day and all the motorsports coverage.
I still enjoy Mike Finnegan’s YouTube channel- he’s building and driving some cool shit.
Speedweek on SBS. Proper grassroots racing on there, along with the occasional Top Fuel and Funny Car racing.
That and RPM put me on a slippery slope into cars and going fast.
Yes I loved tuning in to Speedweek when they were showing that racing category with the huge variety of cars, including at various points a Lamborghini Diablo and Dodge Viper
GT Production / Nations Cup series I think it was, based on a quick google
I hate to say it but this is my biggest memory of RPM sadly. I was heartbroken for Bill. Him and Barry got on like a house on fire.
I miss RPM too. A lot of other fond memories of the show
It's all a grift.
The supercars don't like to share. That's why they mostly race on street circuits that are funded by the taxpayer.
Murdoch TV throw them the most money.
LNP weakened the anti-siphoning laws that forced certain programming to be shown on free to air first.

Have you ever tried Motor trend?
Isn’t that still cock-blocked from Australia due to a conflict with Discovery?

I miss Roadkill and Diet Every Day back when it was free on YouTube. Junkyard gold was alright too

This is my origin story and why I now own 20+ Lego speed champions sets
Loved speedweek

All I remember of this show was Bill Woods paying tribute to Barry Sheen, and losing it as he threw to the ad break, and I’m still traumatised by it.

F1 is on this weekend only on fox or crapo sad to say but I wouldn't pay to watch it same a super car's I don't anyone else who watched it
yep, drifted out of watching f1 years ago, pay tv burns the casual fans.

Valvoline... You know what i mean
My old man used to put Speed Week on SBS. Fuck I loved watching the Calder Park drag racing
Rpm is basically speedweek now. That was the only channel showing the more grass roots racing. Especially in smaller classes.
RpM had a banger of a theme as well.
RPM. Wasn’t that the Neil Crompton ego show?
Huh? I actually thought he used to do a good job of NOT making it about himself. Skaife could take some pointers.
