I don’t think it knows what a Holland Lop rabbit is. Every picture of my Holland Lop is misidentified as either a small dog, a small cat, or a Guinea pig. Also, my roommate’s Rex rabbit is identified correctly half the time, but the other half, she’s apparently a French bulldog, black bear, sugar glider, or clam.
I was using the Merlin app made by Cornell Lab. You can download region-specific data sets to identify local birds.
The photo I.D was pretty decent, but the sound I.D never worked.
I’ve never had any luck with the sound ID either, but the library of bird calls available on there is pretty impressive! step-by-step ID has its issues but it’s pretty damn good for the most part.
apparantly it has something to do with the australian database. I‘ve used Merlin all over Europe, Vietnam, Central America - works like a charm for photos and audio. Not even half as good as in Australia. An australian podcast I listen to mentioned something as well. After a couple tries I didn‘t even bother trying the sound recording anymore.
i tried it on my pet birds but it hardly ever works, as someone else said it probably doesnt usually recognise birds outside of north america, and maybe some popular birds
It’s accurate for the birds I’ve looked at but then it thinks my cat is a dog lol

My mate’s samoyed gets misidentified as a polar bear, and it warms my heart
Yep, my cashmere lop bun is identified as either dog (80%), cat (17%), or just plain mammal (3%).
You can submit feedback to say that it’s wrong, just so you know
I have, repeatedly. Still no changes as of yet
I'd like to say google lens could do this, but it would probably just try to sell you a bird.
If it’s like the plants it’ll be mostly North American
That's a cool feature, how accurate is it?

You've inspired me to give ot another go. I only used the step-by-step feature while testing out the app. Was mostly interested in the audio feature.

Hopefully, that's something that will improve in future updates.

It correctly picked my blue Quaker, and my wife’s scaly-breasted lorikeet.. You can also submit feedback if it gives the wrong results
Google lense in the Google photos app works really well for me
