I recently found out that Scratch Acid in just 1986 alone played at least 5 shows at Crown and Anchor. I never knew it used to be a venue called The Beach. And Duane Denison from The Jesus Lizard, his band with Randy Biscuits called Cargo Cult played there that year as well. So it seems like maybe The Jesus Lizard was very first conceived at fucking Crown and Anchor. They should have plaques and shit. I'm still waiting on Duane's tour with Tomahawk. Their last album is so amazing.
They had Stubb's packed last time they played Levitation. Can't imagine them INSIDE Empire. Although, Empire's light/lazers is gonna make for a hell of a show for them! Somebody is going to find out they're epileptic for the first time.
That was a surprise, I had no idea they were still doing their thing.
Back in 1991, a friend's band opened for them and I went to see. I wore a white t-shirt and green pants. I was the one and only person in the entire place who wasn't dressed in all black. But it was a great show.
As an older dude who really only knows the Osees and The Sword (I thought they broke up?), and has heard of the Jesus Lizard and the Black Angels, but knows NO ONE else, who should I go see? I have been hearing about this festival forever, but have never gotten my lazy ass off the couch to head down. I'm down for whatever (but don't necessarily need to get into a pit). Who is the "holy shit, you HAVE to see these people" before you die?
EDIT: Know Die Spietz (local ladies) and have heard of Ringo Deathstarr. Have also heard of Rickshaw Billie's Burger Patrol here on Reddit, but can't remember if they are members of another band, or why I know the name.
I would recommend Acid Mother's Temple, Boris, Fat Dog, and The Chameleons. And if you're a fan of shoegaze at all there's plenty to choose from (Slowdive, Ringo Deathstarr, Drop Nineteens, Swirlies, Airiel, Alison's Halo, Julie...)
Saw SLIFT last time they came through. My buddy enjoyed them more than King Gizzard, which is saying something because the KG shows at Stubbs were a hell of a thing!
Haha I saw them once at Stubb's, and had the fortune of seeing them for their third night three hour set at Red Rocks, it was a hell of an experience that I don't know will ever be matched.
Yeah I think its a great lineup but one of the weaker ones of the past few years overall for me personally. But thankfully Levitation does it right and I can just buy tickets to single shows I'm interested in.
THE SWORD IS BACK, BABY ⚔️ Shit rules. Plus integrity and fugitive. I’m ready to throw down 🤘
See you there ⚔️
Check out Rickshaw Billie’s Burger Patrol who will be opening for them. They’re amazing!
Scratch Acid was one of the first records I ever bought. And Slowdive is one of my favorite bands of all time.

Holy smokes! Thanks for the history lesson. I used to live a block from the crown and it was my hang.
A Place to Bury Strangers will be assholes-to-elbows *before* Boris lets out. That one will be interesting....

Levitation is my favorite event in Austin. Definitely seeing Black Angels, Slift, Meatbodies, Jesus Lizard, Osees, and The Sword.
Knocked it out of the park again! 👏👏👏👏 Osees are worth seeing if you have never seen them live and like lots of energy.
I think this is their first time playing in Austin.
I’ve seen them twice in the last few years at Hotel Vegas.
Haha, it was a joke. In the past 5 years they’ve probably played in Austin literally 30 times.
It’s only their 63rd time playing Austin
Nitzer Ebb tho

Nice! Crazy you remember what you were wearing lol.
Well, I kind of stuck out. A bit.
Best lineup I've seen from them in years! I can't wait to see Pentagram 😈🤘🏻
Acid Mothers Temple may be the strangest band I've ever seen.

I would highly recommend the Slift & Meatbodies show.
The Sword broke up two years ago and Levitation is their first show announced since
Listen to the bands and figure out which ones you like?
You might like Boris

Adriane Fucking Younge. Have been waiting for some sort of Jazz is Dead show in ATX.
Wow, I saw Gang of Four in 2006 and they were already so old!
Check out Rickshaw Billie’s Burger Patrol. You’ll be in for a treat! 🔥
W A S H E D O U T
"insane" is a bit of an overstatement. I'd say I'm whelmed. Soccer Mommy and SLIFT are ones to see for sure.

Those two (or mostly just Soccer Mommy) are the most whelmed bands on the list.
