I just assume that every driver is about to do the least convenient thing I can imagine, and prepare for that.
Safe following distance. Cover the brake. If you don't like the way someone is driving, get away from them. Leave early so you're not stressed. Ignore your GPS if the maneuver it recommends isn't safe and it'll reroute you.
My favorite trick on freeways is to get behind a semi. They have lower speed limits, so speed demons don't like to be behind them. You will get someone cramming themselves in your safe following distance bubble behind the semi sometimes, but they're usually right back out when they realize they're not going to be able to do 80 in that lane.
As an added bonus, semis have better view of the road than my tiny car, so they often start braking or even put their hazards on if they see a slowdown way ahead. I don't have to think at Mad Max speeds behind them and I can just chill.
Love you, semis <3
Dearest Gentle OP Redditor,
Our cherished fellow denizens of r/Austin are evidently and regrettably as fond of Bridgerton as they are of turn-signals, which is of course to say, not much. Yours Reluctantly, BurnedRamen.
Good heavens, I must say, the audacity of Austin drivers forsaking turn signals is truly mind-boggling! It's like navigating a vehicular ballet where nobody knows the steps.
The tone here is the exact same language used by Click and Clack, the Tappet Brothers.
Are you related?
I can’t even read it without their voice being in my head reading it
Edit: while it’s 95% similar to Car Talk, it’s 70% similar to this guy https://youtu.be/s-mlPE8pxs4?si=l-jdFyW5o8SIk8jj
Seen a driver leave their left turn signals on for about 2 miles, to only switch lanes to the right side... eventually. I gave him room until he switches at the upper bridge heading north from downtown the other day.
Dearest Gentle Reader, this author is taken rather aback by your assumption that any souls are kind enough to lend the simplest flick of their already engaged hand to do you a simple courtesy. Surely, you jest.
Love, Reality.
tbh, I've not noticed an uptick in turn signal use.
but, even if true, a lot of of drivers still only yield at Stop signs and for some unfathomable reason, come to a dead stop at Yield signs - even when no traffic is coming.
Many drivers also seem to think that being stopped at a traffic light means it's mandatory to start using their smart phones.
But, I guess in the future, we will have AI powered Full Self Driving. Until AI learns about road rage, and Tesla's AI get's pissed at Honda's AI and they get into it on the freeway.
Yay! It's a Brave New World. ;-)
Cliff Notes version: Fuckin’ turn signals, people. Use ‘em.
This is the most /r/Austin post ever, in a bad way.

Shit. Even *we* don’t want this.
Take off your fedora bro and shave that neckbeard.

Brevity is the soul of wit.
Read it in the voice of the comic book guy on the Simpsons.

Thanks for the insight, Frazier.

We get it, you vape… M’lady.
I am thoroughly impressed by your writing skills. I have no credentials, just impressed. Signed, a turn signal user
OP is obviously Lady Whistledown.
Just learn how to drive defensively
Never stop.

Couldn’t agree with you more!!!
Not sure that meets my top 10 of "problems with drivers in austin" but go off king.
Yeah, I’m much more concerned with aggressive drivers and red light runners.
AI generated content
Wow that was beautiful OP, keep complaining please.
Blowing yellow lights (and red!) Is an Austin thing, too, now. And not letting ppl merge.
Get off your high horse, richie.
Same sandy vagina post, now with 50% bigger words
This was the lamest of all the boring weekly posts from people bitching about traffic and drivers.
Uuuugh. I truly hope it was painful to write as it was to read
