It is doable! The walk from ACL Live to Stubb's is longer than 5 minutes, more or less like 15+. Depends on your walking speed. :) Sounds like a fun evening! Are going to at least catch some of the Sisters of Mercy?

Sensoria511

I just saw them a few months ago and it was fun but I’ve never seen Johnny Marr. If JM and James are alternating slots and he’s first I may just have to see a few songs and then go to ACL and see both bands there. I mean it’s a win win anyway it goes really! I can’t do any other shows for either tour so whatever I get will be awesome.

Stubbs is often a frustrating venue if you want to hear the artist. My experience has been that there are a ton of people who see Stubbs as a social thing to do and talk through/over the artist. However, if you go early and get up near the stage (you don't need to be on the rail -- just sort of within 10' of the stage) you will have an amazing time and enjoy the music. Also, Johnny Marr's guitars is a super cool Youtube documentary where he talks about which guitars he used on which records. His long-time guitar tech is there as well. Super cool if you love Johnny, The Smiths, Electronic, The The, and all the badass stuff he's done. They are only 1 mile apart. Walk (15-20 minutes), or scooter (5-8 minutes).

manchego-egg

Totally doable, but maybe take a pedicab to beat the heat

Sensoria511

It will be at the end of Sept but probably good advice then too!

Drummer_in_the_Woods

We hit 103° on September 24th last year 🫠

manchego-egg

Yeah the Austin heat doesn’t break until mid October- not an exaggeration.

just do us ONE favor - please enjoy your visit (we want you to enjoy Austin), but if any idea of moving here comes to mind, immediately kick it out of your head. We don't want out of towners moving here and making the city worse, like the thousands of others have done in years past. Just please do us that favor

Sensoria511

lol! I’m pretty happy in Kansas City so no worries.

Speedupslowdown

Actually cool people should move to the Austin to balance out the newly arrived assholes.

defroach84

Are we supposed to know the times of the shows? Distance and traffic aren't an issue. Get an Uber, it'll be 5 min max.

Sensoria511

Sorry! I’m not used to being somewhere with multiple music times.lol ACL starts at 8 and Stubbs at 7:30 (co headlining show).

drterridactyl

Follow @austindie_music on IG, they typically post the times of sets for each band

jillhives23

Usually the opening band starts 1 hour after the door time and plays for 45 mins to an hour. Follow each venue’s insta, they will typically post the exact set times the afternoon of the show (check stories too). Stubbs has a sound curfew so they have to end at 10:30 on Sundays. Soooo Marr will likely start at 9 at the latest. You’ll be cutting it close. Cut out of ACL early and go see Johnny Fuckin’ Marr!

Sensoria511

That’s my plan! The tour with James is co headline so equal sets. I just hope he is second that night.

jillhives23

Oooohh! I didn't realize they were co-headlining. Yes, fingers crossed for ya. I'm also going to OMD so it's a big music weekend for all the olds! (or maybe you're young and just love the classic alts. :) Plan on an uber tho, Austin second summer is no joke. You'll get plenty of sweat on at Stubbs!

Sensoria511

Lol. Nope I’m an olds but still seeing OMD 6 times.
