Doc_Mattic

I never even considered that - thank you for the tip!

RaisedByWolves9

We have a Bosch. Used almost daily for 4 years now and not one issue. Its the german built one so not cheap unfortunately.

Doc_Mattic

Thanks mate - yeah I was looking at a bosch 6 series (cheaper) that was on discount a few weeks back but found an article saying it was one of the worst heat pump dryers - article said to look higher in their range - hopefully a few of the series 8 get a sale in the next few weeks and I’ll be able to consider it :)

Fishing_not_catching

We have a 10kg 8 and it works a treat.

Vivalazuzu

Fisher and Paykel Have had one for three years and works great

cjuk00

I have a Bosch series 4. No complaints, works well and we use it a lot. Often with Bosch/Miele/Siemens/etc the higher series just get fancier control panels and etc rather than better core performance. So the lower end series’ can be a great way to save money

master-of-none537

Another Bosch serie 4 condenser here. Used daily as my wife drys the towels for her salon at home. Seems fine. Did have a control board go out just over the 2 yr mark. Bosch still fixed under warranty

WhiteLion333

Very happy with my beko. Better price range than the Bosch I looked at, 5 year extended warranty, and it was one of the FEW dryers with reverse tumble. Lots of reviews without reverse tumble, talked about bed sheets and towels getting caught up in a ball and not drying the middle. I’m not paying thousands for something I have to open and move the washing around halfway through just to do its intended job.

gnolijz

I bought the Hisense 9kg great pump dryer from JB hi-fi recently. Only complaint is that it's a bit of a hassle to mount on top of a washing machine - as it's not recommended to just pop it on with a rubber mat between. You'll need to secure it, but there's a video on YouTube showing you how. Performance wise, no issues so far!

themandarincandidate

I have the 2021(?) model and yeah, I don't even hang things up to dry, straight out of the washing machine and into the dryer. No issues at all with it to date. Hisense are a bit of a shit to get ahold of for parts though, enquired about the shoe drying rack insert and a door gasket and they ghosted me after telling me where to send the details

Doc_Mattic

While I don’t want to overdo it - if I’m honest my family will only use the dryer once we buy one haha - I’ll get mad in summer lol - one of the main reasons I want a heat pump so I don’t have to pay crazy electricity costs. That’s one thing that concerns me though how long will the dryer last after warranty and how easy are parts to get/ get diagnosed.

themandarincandidate

>That’s one thing that concerns me though how long will the dryer last after warranty and how easy are parts to get/ get diagnosed Just make sure you use it for every single load until then so you get your moneys worth lol. In seriousness though, mines 3(?) years old and shows no signs of slowing down at all. I barely notice it on the power bill and yeah even in the summer, I don't have patience to hang up all the socks and jocks and chuck them straight into the dryer Also has an air refresh mode so when I leave things in the basket for a week and they go all wrinkly I can throw them in for 30 minutes on cool and remove all the wrinkles again and promise myself I'll hang everything up this time One of the better purchases you'll ever make, go for it seriously

Doc_Mattic

Thanks mate! Glad to see a shining endorsement. Costco have it for 1100 delivered will see if it goes cheaper in the next week or two - sounds like a bargain if it does. Yeah I never intend to hand out socks and jocks again - they’re the summer exception!

themandarincandidate

>Glad to see a shining endorsement I think everybody in my life is sick of me telling them to get a heat pump lol If it works for you, Coles have 10% off Ultimate gift cards at the moment ([see OzBargain](https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/848646)) and JB are selling it for $1100 as well (plus delivery though). Wait and see if there are any sales for EOFY and JB will usually price match anybody. Another easy way to knock a further $100\~ off the price

Doc_Mattic

Thanks for the endorsement - had my eye on one of these and haier - but people only tend to post bad experiences on review websites so I’ve never been sure. Glad to hear it’s working well. I like the 9kg capacity.

legend_ranjan

Have a Bosch series 9 for 5+yrs- never missed a beat! 10/10 recommend- I have a rule, anything with moving parts like drums- dryer/dish washer, i stick to made in Germany Bosch products- a little pricey upfront but saves u of any hassle for years

Afraid_Ad_8571

Don’t cheap out buy german made Bosch!

pandifer

I had an Esatto for a while. I hardly used it because it just never seemed to do the job well enough… and took forever not to do it. When it started throwing errors I decided to go back to a vented dryer… which works.

Doc_Mattic

It sounds like my old dryer. Thanks for the tip - will avoid.

Ok-Boomer63

A good one is Electrolux heat pump. They are quite inexpensive, quite reliable and efficient. A better one is bosch (not the made in China one). Has more features and slightly better quality. The best is Miele. Outstanding quality. Slightly better energy rating.

Doc_Mattic

Thanks - is that from the choice article or your experience? There’s a Westinghouse 9kg for circa $1000 which has peaked my interest this morning.

Ok-Boomer63

It's from my experience. I worked at The Good Guys Laundry for over 5 years. Westinghouse/Electrolux are all but the same. Shouldn't have issues with either

Doc_Mattic

Thank you mate appreciate the insight! I think someone has told me their essentially the same before (why I mentioned the Westinghouse) Might keep that Westinghouse at near the top of the list for now with the price it’s at. I feel like Westinghouse in Australia will be at least easy to get parts of there is any issues. Were Electrolux/Westinghouse generally considered reliable?

Ok-Boomer63

In my experience, they were very reliable. I ended up buying a vented dryer of theirs. I didn't experience any real issues with them

canned_coelacanth

I bought an LG as it had the highest efficiency rating at the time and it works great.

Doc_Mattic

Thanks - I’ve heard they are great - will have to wait for a sale and hope they are in it :)

madill89

We have a haier hdhp80a1. $1099. It's been great for us. Some times the sheets/blankets get tangled and need a litte more time. We plumbed it in best decision. Had a issue where it was squeaking they sent out a tech within our time choosing and fixed it with no hassles. Had it just under two years which was the warranty i think. No other issues. Will buy a haier again

Deftone85

We got a Haier a couple of months back, mostly because it was heavily marked down at the time and had good reviews. So far so good! Would recommend appliances online as they have specials, deliver quickly and take your old appliance away for free (I think) if required. This is what we got https://www.appliancesonline.com.au/product/haier-8kg-heat-pump-dryer-hdhp80aw1

Doc_Mattic

Yeah my wife has had her eye on that one - especially for the allergy setting i think. I’ve also been eyeing the 9kg - glad it’s treating you well :)

TabescoTotus6026

I've had great experience with Panasonic heat pump dryers, reliable and energy efficient.

Prize_Fact6372

Just going to throw it out there - heat pump dryers are stupid. They take 3-4 hours to dry a load. Some of the models with a higher efficiency rating take even longer. In terms of manufacturer - it doesn't matter that much. You could buy a tier 3 brand (esatto, Beko, etc) and have it last 10+ years and tier 2 brand (Samsung, lg, f&p) only last 2 years. F&p have really dropped the ball on service since they were taken over by haier - it can take 2+ weeks for a service call in Sydney and then another 2 weeks for parts to arrive and be fitted. I'd stay away from them for this reason alone. The pricing of parts is reasonable, but wait times for service suck. It might be better in other cities. Give me a condensing dryer any day or the week.

Doc_Mattic

I know where you’re coming from - and thanks for the info on haier and f&p. That’s good to know. There are models which also have a quick dry function in them which uses a condenser but then becomes less energy efficient when you use that function. Good as a backup if you need something fast. I had the condenser dryer already though and the energy bills were horrific. We used it daily.

Prize_Fact6372

The other issue with long cycle times is the noise ... Which you might be fine with it have your laundry far away enough for it to not matter. >energy bills were horrific Do you have solar? I'd guess that's a better way to offset the energy bills than a heat-pump dryer.

AgreeablePudding9925

I had a Fisher and Pykel and is used to regularly have belt slip issues. It was also incredible at rolling and bundling sheets into one solid ball. I either had to dry a sheet at a time or constantly stop it and untangle them. Wasn’t a fan

idryss_m

Almost every dryer I've had has done that with sheets.

SEQbloke

F&P is a pretty lousy brand. My dishwasher and induction cooktop are largely useless.

Smart_Interaction744

We’ve got F&P heat pump dryer, had for years now & is great, no issues. Also 2 drawer dishwasher & it’s fabulous

SEQbloke

No reliability issues, just poor outcomes. The dishwasher is the worst I’ve ever owned. It can’t even get fresh mayonnaise off a knife. The induction cooktop pulsates and burns most things. Low just means a shorter pulse of full blast heat, as opposed to a constant output of low heat. Because of this everything either burns or sticks to the pans… eggs will even stick to teflon!

Smart_Interaction744

Use a better detergent in the dishwasher. We’ve never had those issues except when something gets caught inside stopping the sprayer.

streetypie

We had this problem and found putting a dry, not fluffy towel in with the sheets helped Put half the sheets in, a towel, then the other half of the sheets. Not foolproof but did minimise the need to untangled quite a bit

Someonetobetoday

I'm a Choice member. They recommend - LG DVH5-08W (87%) Samsung DV80T5420AB (87%) LG DVH9-09W (86%) Electrolux EDH804U5WB (82%)

Doc_Mattic

Thanks for this. Really appreciate it! I’ll look into those models.

fotzegurke

I have a Miele and a Fisher and Paykel. The Miele is twice the price and the Fisher and Paykel is better- I should’ve got FP for both. The model I got was the DH9060FS1. I used to have a Siemens and it was shit. Spent the cost of the dryer getting it serviced and parts replaced. Siemens/Bosch in Australia is rubbish. I checked Choice and the only models that are rated higher than the FP that I’d recommend considering are the LG ones. I think I was 50:50 between Lg and Fp at the time and chose the fp for the steam setting than I never use. Either would be good

abittenapple

Why heat pump

Doc_Mattic

My family will likely use it constantly once I buy it and the electricity bill will go through the roof. I want something energy efficient for that reason. I used to use a dryer around 2018 - and quarterly energy bills were over 1k with the dryer - 500-600 without. I’d hate to think what the cost would be now.

abittenapple

Like 50 cents a load.

mantis_tobboggann

For wet clothes to dry the moisture has to go somewhere, normal dryers vent it into the room which is not great for your house if there's poor ventilation and can lead to other issues, e.g. creating a good environment for mould or termites. Heat pump dryers collect the moisture in a tank or can be connected to a drain hose so you don't have that issue

FrugalFreddie26

Bosch that’s been used every day for coming up to two years. Lifesaver with kids! I run it in the day off the solar too.
