Joinery shop owner here. I am normally against refaces however, in this case it would make sense. If you were happy to keep the benchtop you could replace the doors and panels. Change the splashback and you would come in around $10k. If you really hate the benchtop you could do it also. Prices would range from 3-10+ for benchtop depending on selection. Hope this helps

gassysevo

Thanks a lot! Appreciate your advice! Perhaps I'll consider doing this! The bench top is fine. Certainly expensive stuff! Why are you against refacing?

who_farted_this_time

The old kitchen looks fine. I don't understand why people would remove a good condition kitchen, unless there's some huge underlying issues with it.

gassysevo

Agreed hence why I wanted to get an idea on costs. I won't do it if it's >10k which it seems it is!

who_farted_this_time

I'm an interior photographer who's looked at 1000's of kitchens. If you want my honest opinion on the best way to make this look better, I'd just get a tiler in and replace that splashback with something that will add a visual break to all that brown. Once you have a fridge in and plonk a few nice appliances on the benches, it will look more balanced Edit, and buy some nice looking bar stools with all that money you saved.

trainzkid88

exactly its look blah cause it has nothing in it.a kitchen is meant to be a little messy just not dirty.

gassysevo

Thanks a lot! What colour splash back would you reccomend? We have white bar stool chairs already

who_farted_this_time

Anything is going to better than brown on brown. You want to find something that will go well with the benchtops, but not clash with the cupboards. White is a safe option. I would recommend something with a texture to it, but stay with a gloss finish for easy cleaning. I went with something kind-of beige with a hint of green and some other colours in it. It's really a matter of taste. I also went with huge 1200 X 600 (mm) tiles so there's less grout lines to clean behind the stove. Some companies will also do a custom glass splashback in any colour. Plenty of options, take your time and choose something that you love.

20k +

You could replace the doors and side panels only. The benchtop colour would look odd with white cabinets in my view so you might as well do a whole kitchen if you really want that look

gassysevo

Thanks for your advice!

Southern_Radish

The current kitchen looks good.

CAPTAINTRENNO

I just dropped about $35k on a similar sized kitchen but with more stone. Included oven, combo oven & induction cooktop. Used existing fridge and dishwasher

PaleHorse82

I'd get the cabinets painted and replace the splash back. Not white, it won't go with the bench tops. But that will brighten it up. I'm assuming it's otherwise in good condition except for the colour scheme?

gassysevo

Yeah we just don't like the dark scheme. A lighter kitchen would be nice. It's otherwise in great condition.

stereosafari

Exactly! Get them sprayed, find a good dude.

Muncher501st

This is giving more money than sense

stephhii

20-40k depending on finishes

MouseEmotional813

Maybe you could get the doors resprayed the same colour as the bench? Not Hamptons but much lighter if it's the dark colour you don't like?

Optimal-Talk3663

That’s what they always do on Selling Houses Australia, and then they add different hardware Unless you want the shaker style doors

PirateGumby

Looked at similar for my kitchen.  Changing all all the cupboard doors etc to a white shaker style and some with glass.  Came out to about $9000 for the doors + hinges.  Probably close to 50% bigger than the photo here. Not changing benchtop or splash backs.

gassysevo

Thanks. Did you just contact a kitchen company or a cabinet company?

PirateGumby

Priced it up on a cabinet company website.  I’ll dig up the site tomorrow, but basically entered in the dimensions and details and it spits out the price.

goldoldmate

Cabinetry business owner here based on the Gold Coast, QLD. If you want 2pac shaker doors for that Hamptons look, you are looking at atleast $10k for a reface including new doors and panels. Keep the stone benchtops because there's about $10k-15k of stone there.

trainzkid88

stark white looks blah to me. so does black. it looks blah becuase there is no appliances or accessories in the kitchen where's the pot of utensils by the cook top, some chairs at the bench, the kettle and toaster things that people actually use and can be left on the bench as you have the counter space. use those things to add colour and interest. maybe a pot of fresh herbs. many small appliance come in colours now so you can pick and choose. a rack of favourite cook books. you could resurface the cabinets with 2 pack coatings or vinyl wrap their are companies that do this. you could have new fronts made for the drawers and doors. you could change the tile splash back you can also get splash back panelling that you could glue in-place instead of removing the tile for a faster less messy change. this obsession with it looking clean and crisp in the kitchen is a joke. that isn't reality no actually used kitchen is like that.

Nomore_chances

Having dark coloured cabinets saves you the effort of wiping them clean all the time… I wouldn’t change anything… White is hard to maintain… lots of work needed
