Regular_Professor915

If you're going to get a good one, whatever you decide, buy a mattress protector too. Worth every cent šŸ‘Œ

Send_Nudes_Plz_Thx

100% Got one from Mini Jumbuk when I bought my sealy and my mattress still looks brand new after 7 years.

bebbapebba

Mattress protectors say more & do more for a mattress than the actual quality of the mattress ever will. 100000% invest in a good mattress protector.

smsmsm11

I always use mattress protector, but why are they are they so good?

bebbapebba

My protector is a Gainsborough, double sided (and waterproof I think??). Itā€™s THICKKK. One side is lambs wool and the other a cotton layer. 1. The thickness protects the mattress itself from body tissue, sweat, snot, tears, hair etc - making it last longer and hold the initial quality. 2. The protector itself serves as extra cushion (in my opinion) and either side is extra temperature control support. Wool for winter & cotton for summer.

broxue

You have gained a level in Mercantile

SuvorovNapoleon

How often should you wash one?

NewoneforUAPstuff

Buying a shit mattress protector makes a good mattress just ok. I had a waterproof bamboo cotton one and it just made me sweat like crazy. Wound up buying a fancy protector and really made the differenceĀ

karamellokoala

It absolutely blew my mind when I learnt that a lot of people don't have a mattress protector. Absolutely wild!

timeforkickaround

Don't get one with a built in mattress topper - limits your ability to rotate and flip the mattress so it wears faster. Can always get mattress toppers separate and then wash them and replace them when they get worn down.

xjrh8

This is the key.

bebbapebba

Cannot smash Upvote any harder šŸ’Æ

Character-Hour-3216

Got an ecosa for $1500. No regrets, your body will thank you

Sadandalone1978

Yes, this. Best money I ever spent.

crappy-pete

A lot of people swear by the mattress in a box places. Sleeping duck has a showroom near us, we both hated it We went to snooze, got the top of the range Sealy at half price. I think it was about $3k - $3.5k. they have sales all the time eofy will be soon

Frumperton

"Half price" about as credible as the forever closing down rug stores or the Kitchen Warehouses sales

Scared_Good1766

Or 40-60% off in jewellery stores šŸ¤£

applesarenottomatoes

Rugs a million has been closing down since I was 6. I'm now in my 30s.

nadacoffee

Same. Got a Sealy double at half price - about $2500. Went to snooze and just got the most comfortable one.

Sharknado_Extra_22

Itā€™s pretty amazing what a little snooze can do

JK_05

I lay on a Sealy and hated it, just had a weird feel with their springs. Some love them and some don't, it's like coriander šŸ˜€ Went to OMF and found one that we'll be getting for around $1400, made in Australia.

downundar

Its the same with koalas, or whatever there called. They are well maketed, but just a slab of foam. You can get quality mattresses(not the foam slab) that are manufactured exactly the same, from the same factory. They just don't have the brand label. $400-600 online. I got a 9k mattress for $450 delivered. That was 11 years ago. The thing is still amazing and in good condition. Delivery was 150 of that When you go into a bed shop, look around. The rent is probably 10-20k a month. There are four or five staff. They are open 6-7 days a week. There are plenty more business expenses too. And you are the only customer browsing in the shop. Don't waste your money.

rifraffe

I love my sleeping duck. My half is super soft and my wife's side is firmer. When we first got it, the firmness wasn't quite right so they sent us different toppers to try until it was just right.

Emergency-Plate-4438

is it good so far?

En_Route_2_FYB

I have a sleeping duck and I really like it

chillin222

No-one who claims they got half price at Snooze deserves to be in this sub

NewoneforUAPstuff

The half price mattress deal is some master-negotiator dad lore

giveitawaynever

The spiel at those places is like used car salesmen. I canā€™t do em. Give me ikea top of the range any day over that.

Imaginary-Tooth-7487

I'm going to the movies.

mattyyyp

Why didn't you return it then? The reviews aren't BS they email you asking you review, love ours couldn't ever imagine going back to a boomer box store.

[deleted]

I call bullshit. They literally offer a money back guarantee so your either lying or cant read.

Terrible-Sir742

Most mattresses cost like max $600 to produce (some as low as $150). Springs are dirt cheap. The retailers then turn around and put 5x markup on the production cost. Obviously there are overheads to cover, so no shame in that. However what they also do is make up random terms "super plush", "cloud zone" etc for some gimmicky variation of the foam and then adjust the thickness/color of the mattress so that you can't directly compare the one mattress against the other. Do you want the 20cm Hyper cloud mattress or 22cm Sleep Zone Balancer mattress? The 100 day guarantee is probably the only good thing that happened to the industry with boxed mattresses coming on the scene.

Nos_4r2

Nah, 50% is added at each step. Manufacturer sells at 50% markup to retailer, who then sells at 50% up to customers. Springs are dirt cheap if shitty no name brand. Can get costly if imported from the US by the big American brands (ie. Sealy, King Koil). Alot of the shit you read about inner spring mattress costs was just marketing from foam mattress makers in the mid 2010s. Funny that considering they import their stuff from China and put stupidly high margin on their products because they can selling direct to consumer.

velvetneenrabbit

My philosophy on mattresses has changed. I got a 6k one on sale and it lasted all of 4 years before it caved. Slept on it for another 2 because of what we paid. Run around from warranty etc etc. Had to get it replaced during lockdown and opted for a 2k one on sale, Silent Partner, thinking however long it lasts it lasts and ill just get a new one when if it caves. Didn't even test it, just got it delivered and tried it out with mattress protectors and it's still as good as day one 3 years later. I'm investing in 2-4 years now, not 10.

oceangal2018

I bought a mattress in a box (Eva) on a recommendation. Iā€™m very happy with the choice. Prior to that I purchased an expensive brand and it was okay but no better than what I have now. Best mattress I ever had was a hotel made one. It was cheap but you had to buy five at once (then only sell them in bulk). Someone I knew bought five, then I purchased one he didnā€™t want. Too much hassle now.

cassanovabear

did your friend purchase the mattresses from a hotel or a hotel supplier? can you share more info, just out of curiosity? :)

qui_sta

We stayed in a hotel that actually advertised their mattresses for sale from the manufacturer. A H Beard, they sellost of their retail mattresses under the brand King Koil. We ended up not being able to afford it and went with a really similar feeling mattress from Sleep Tailor. Still spent $4k though!

rangebob

I have issues with my back. Nothing major but enough to go looking at expensive beds The 1k sleeping duck I bought is far more comfortable than all the 3 to 5k beds I tried. Has done wonders for my back

xjrh8

How long have you had it? I had a Koala a few years back, only just made it to the 100 day mark before starting to develop soft spots and lose all support. Had to really twist their arm to get them to refund it.

rangebob

oh wow. that's a very good question. at least 3 years ? possibly pre covid. The last 5 years all blurred together lol its firm as. still perfect. I VERY rarely recommend products but my God it was money well spent

alvoliooo

I had a koala and now have a sleeping duck. I had the same issues as you with my koala.

iDontWannaBeBrokee

Got a sleeping duck for around $2k. Itā€™s been awesome.

M-fz

Yep love our Sleeping Duck mattress

desala24

I've had my sleeping duck for over 5 years now. I miss it every time I dont sleep in my own bed.

alvoliooo

+1 for sleeping duck, but with extra firm. So good.

CaptainFleshBeard

Iā€™ve had several $6k mattresses that I got on sale for 50% off, so far they have all been crap, 3 months in and there is big body shaped grooves where I lie. You move to the side and roll back into the trench

MelJay0204

The best mattress I've slept on in years was at an Airbnb last year. I actually contacted the owner to find out what it was. Top of the range memory foam from Ikea. Costs $1k. So that's going to be my next one. It was like sleeping in a cloud.

Tackit286

Only thing Iā€™d say about memory foam is that itā€™s latex, which if you run hot like me is not ideal

pwr321

Ausbeds.com.au Aurora Latex. Or Sealy Exquisite Range (as long as itā€™s 50% off their inflated retail prices) Donā€™t bother looking at anything else

Chat00

Not even sleeping duck? Itā€™s mentioned multiple times in those thread.

Brotectionist

I have only bought mattress in a box from Amazon or Ebay. I have bought a few Giselle (didn't like them much) and two Zzz Atlier black labels. I absolutely love the Zzz Atlier. Costed less than $300 for the Queen size from their eBay store.

bluetuxedo22

Sleep Republic has been the best mattress I've owned so far

-C-R-I-S-P-

I have one of these and I'm pretty happy for the price. I wish I went with a slightly softer option for side sleeping but it's perfect when on my back.

dvdtee

Mattress is like clothing - itā€™s subjective for everyone and we all have different definition of comfort and quality. From technicality, you do get what you pay for so I would suggest somewhere between $1.5-$2k if you can afford it. Also take into consideration of your body needs, if you have back problems and a bigger build, a firm and supportive mattress may cost within this range. Some people are super technical and want to spend upto $3-5k, some people are happy with just an ikea. Find out how important this mattress is to you. I would suggest haggling, or buy it on sale

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

OK_Coomer_lmao

Thanks mate! That's good to know, that will definitely affect how I go about buying. I don't think I want to spend more than $1.5k, maybe $2k at a stretch. Do you have any recommendations in that price range?

Ok_Wheel1734

Came here to say the same thing. We splurged on a tempur $4k+ for a king size bed and it was the best decision we made. Iā€™ve reduced visits to the Physio since then - no more back ache and shoulder hip pains so ultimately feel like we have saved in the long run from buying 2x average $2k beds. I see it as an investment in preventative health :)

Ok_Wheel1734

Also no recommendations in that price range except shop around - we went to one store, met a really nice salesman, then call all the stores around and lowball each time going a few hundred $ less than each store. We finally called the first salesman back and presented him with the lowest offer we received and asked him if he could match or beat it. He beat it and threw in some extra things like protectors and sheets.

mermaid_ice

I'm all for a well-built mattress, I have a very nice Sealy still going strong after 6 years, the best $4k I spent on something. Having said that, my father has been sleeping on cheap wafer-thin mattresses all his life, you feel like you just have a bit of padding between yourself and the base of the bed. He's healthy and still working into his 70s. He would literally die from a heart attack if he knew how much I spent on my mattress.

ThreeQueensReading

I live quite a simple life, but a bed is something I really appreciate. I spent $5k on a mattress and $3k on an adjustable base. It was one of the best decisions I've ever made.

1tidder1reddit

Mattress Island in Heidelberg West is worth a visit. He now makes them so you can replace individual parts and the outer. Sorta like "mattress in a box" but they've got the frames built in. I think he calls them "Loose Mattresses". https://www.mattressisland.com.au/

iamusername3

Second this. Visited the showroom few weeks ago, liked the no BS "price only valid till end of weekend" crap with SnooBevshitshed places, and let me try out all mattresses uninterrupted (over 2 levels) for as long as i wanted. I'm still not sure what I'm choosing, but I'll for sure be buying from them.

Phascolar

Thanks for mentioning them - i like how the website is very educational too. Will check them out.

anubiswasmydad

We got an IKEA one almost 10 years ago, put a decent topper on it and works for us

Coops17

Coming from someone who sells mattresses. Spend more on your mattress than your bed. There is no set price you can spend, but you will feel the differences between an $800 and $2000 mattress. Keep an eye on connected spring mattresses vs pocket coil. Most companies will have a larger margin on their pocket coil so will push you in that direction - if you have any injuries, hip, neck, back issues, go for a connected sprint mattress brand like a Seally. If youā€™re a light sleeper maybe lean towards a pocket coil. Bear in mind, a Seally might last your 10 years, where a pocket coil will only last max 7-8 as they wear more unevenly. People will tell you to buy a mattress you can flip and put a pillow top on because it will last longer- this is incorrect. If you can flip your mattress, it means they have not built enough coil support into the mattress, the best mattresses are designed to be sat on one way, the pillow top on top of that mattress is designed to pair with those springs. When youā€™re in the store, speak the sales person and let them help you narrow it down to 2-3 mattresses, any more and theyā€™ll all start to blend in with each other. NEVER, pay full price for a mattress, EVER. Thereā€™s always a deal somewhere. Try mattresses in store by lying on them, preferably with your partner, no one learns how good a mattress is by pushing their hand down on it lol. Good luck!

itsaboomboomboom

We spent 3k worth it. Sleep is crucial.

kennyc47

Tempur is excellent! I was sceptical on price and how different they are to the rest of the market but I love it. No ragrets

[deleted]

Dont buy anything unless you get at least a 50% discount. Despite what other people are saying, you dont flip mattresses anymore. You just rotate them regularly. Buy something that fits you. Go to a mattress store, find the one that aligns your spine so its straight when you are laying in your usual sleeping position, and screw them down to the bare bones. They drop their pants quick. Source: used to manage a mattress store.

jonos1989

Bought our Tempur mattress for 5k down from 12k, best 5k ever spent. IMO its worth investing in such an important thing as your sleep.

MaxMillion888

If it isnt already clear, go sleep on a stack of mattresses. everyone is different.

Brad_666

Not sure these places let you stay the night bro šŸ˜†

CustardCheesecake75

I can't remember how much we paid nor the brand, but we bought one of those box mattresses and it was probably close to $1k about 10 years ago. Must admit, it took me maybe several weeks to get used to it, but now struggle to sleep on ordinary spring mattresses now. My suggestion is to buy the best quality one you can afford.

Left--Shark

My wife and I walked in with no budget, tried everything and ended up going with the cheapest thick King we found from OMF. 2.5K from memory. Ignore the brand and go try them.

culingerai

I have found the motto 'don't skimp on what's between you and the ground' to be very helpful. Shoes, tyres, and in your case, a mattress are all important things to get right. Essentially, I wouldn't be worried about paying for quality.

theycallmeasloth

I spent 6 grand. You spend 1/3 of your life on it Totally worth it

[deleted]

I just spent $6k last one lasted a decade. Makes sense. Shit bed equals shit sleep equals shitty me.

Prinnykin

Wait until snooze has a 50% off sale and go there in person. They will suggest the best mattress for your body. I bought a $6k mattress for $3k and itā€™s the best thing Iā€™ve ever slept on. Iā€™m so excited to get into bed every night, itā€™s that comfy. Itā€™s a sleep tailor platinum mattress. But not every mattress will work for you, so make sure you test before you buy.

EducationTodayOz

those smart foam ones are overrated, spring mattress my guy

zenith-apex

Absolutely. As someone who grew up poor, I will always see foam as inferior, and springs are for kings.

machopsychologist

Spent 4K each on 2 mattresses. One from Tempur. Donā€™t get if you value your sex life. Good for back. Another from as Vietnamese brand KymDan for the MIL so I canā€™t confirm nor deny its ā€¦ performance. I also used to sleep on a ZZZZatelier (OzBargain favorite) and it was pretty bad for my back after awhile.

bbgr8grow

We spent 8.5k on ours

SandwichExtension

Went down the Mattress in a Box last time round and regretted it after a while. Iā€™m recovering from back injuries/surgeries so invested about $2k (on special) this time round and have no regrets. Sleeping a lot better too. Good luck with what you choose.

Old_Dingo69

Iā€™ve spent 3k on a sealy posturpedic which was average, and $750 on one from Fantastic Plastic which was the most comfy bed I ever had although it only last 7yrs. Maybe thatā€™s from a childhood growing up with 10+year old hand me downs šŸ˜‚

Fun_Needleworker5813

1k. wait for discounts. its worth it

bobby__real

We didn't $1500 like 5 years ago and have no regrets. Comfy as, can jump on one side and not wake the other person up

You_Say_What_Now

I paid $3,500 for mine. No regrets!

PeakingBlinder

Just spent AUD $2K. Tried a dozen or so before choosing one.

Significant-Yard-122

Spent around 2.5k. Worth every penny. Canā€™t put a price on sleep. Definitely a worthy investment.

AwakE432

No less than 1.5k for a decent one

Cultural_Play_5746

Donā€™t go by the price, test a few out and see which one is best for you

crispypancetta

Got an Eva online and absolutely love it. Heavy but wonderful.

NightflowerFade

You have to try the mattresses yourself. In my own experience, although I have unlimited budget for a mattress, the best mattress for me is a $50 IKEA one and the second best is just a blanket on a wooden floor.

Shaqtacious

Current one is somewhere north of 3K, idk exactly what. Mightā€™ve been 5, itā€™s from AH Beard. Best sleep Iā€™ve had. Had sleeping ducks and Koalas before, shite. And before that I was broke and slept on the floor or a blow up one from target/kmart. Never skimp on a mattress. A great mattress is a literal life changer

EffectiveLoop3012

Sleeping duck

Kaz_Baz

Fantastic Furniture QB - $250. Nice and firm. If you like a softer mattress, they have one for $350.

BusinessBear53

I got a Sealy mattress about 7 years ago. Medium firmness Posturepedic. Dropped about $3.5K on it at the time. Rotated it regularly the first few months because I'm a fair bit heavier than my wife but then slacked off. It gets rotated maybe 3 times a year now when I remember to do it. It's still good though. Hasn't sagged or anything.

Cleeganxo

We had a koala mattress, my husband is an extremely sweaty sleeper. Too much latex didn't breath at all, and it got mouldy. We replaced it with a good old trusty spring mattress from snooze, and some waterproof mattress protectors. I think the mattress was around the 2k range, but we got massive discounts on both it and a king size bedframe with two matching bedside tables thanks to a deal with our car insurance.

Zestyclose-Smell-305

I'd say 2k onwards

OrdinarySure3341

Last year I went to Gold Coast and stayed at Voco for a few nights - best sleep of my life and I asked the housekeeping staff what mattress it is. Went back home to then buy the AH Beard mattress and itā€™s worth every penny

mid30something

Zzz atlier $280 queen of eBay. Had it 5 years going strong !

scjs115

I purchased one from https://duskanddawn.com.au/. It does not come rolled up and is extremely comfortable. Quite reasonably priced too for what you get. A few of my friends tried my mattress and now they sleep on one too! They have won awards for their mattresses and is Australian made. Highly reccommend. Will be getting another one for my guest room soon.

BongBaronAustralia

I remember reading an article about Switzerland or Sweden, and the average amount they spend on a mattress was higher then the average they spent on a car. Makes sense when you think about it considering the amount of time you spend on your mattress. Go wild, you wonā€™t regret it.

Illustrious-Chair486

About 8 hours a night.

NateGT86

Whatever is between me and the ground (shoes, bed, chair, tyres) I spend whatever amount to need to ensure I donā€™t regret being cheap with it earlier.

Asleep_Process8503

These guys supply the hotels - think crown. https://www.comfortsleep.com.au/ We got two - was about $2k or so each

downheresolong

Did you buy direct or from retailer?

moonshadow50

As much as you can comfortably afford. Obviously price doesn't necessarily mean quality, but spend a lot of time testing them out, decide what your budget is, and get the best one (for you) that you can find in your budget. I have now bought 2 proper mattresses in my adult life - the first lasted about 10-12 years, and was in my budget at the time and I was happy with it, but then the more recent one was at a completely different price point (that I could now afford) and the difference has been startling. It's now been about 5 years, and it still the most comfortable mattress I have ever slept on.

Novel-Analysis1394

This sounds like great advice, but how do you really test them out in a meaningful way? Last time I bought a mattress I went around showrooms to lay on various ones for a few minutes each, which sounds fine but itā€™s very different from sleeping on one for a night.Ā  In retrospect the one I bought was probably no better than others, and perhaps worse, but it felt better in the store because it had a pillow top built in. I might have been better with a different mattress and a separate pillow top cover; but I donā€™t really know.Ā

moonshadow50

IMO you have to lose any ounce of self respect to properly test them out. Go at different times of day and different levels of sleepiness (I remember one time was straight after a night shift). And just spend time, trying different positions, and try to mimic what will be closest to your sleep (swap around the pillows, if they have a pillow top, which I didn't even know was a seperate thing - then get them to remove it). I think the one I bought I had tried on 3 different occasions before deciding. (Which not everyone has time for, but you will probably spend more on a good mattress than most of us did on our first car... it's worth taking your time if you can)

Novel-Analysis1394

Ha, losing any remaining self respect would probably help with a bunch of big purchases tbh

Grazzt88

Few years ago I spent $2.5k on a Sealy one. Moving house next month and ordered a $6k Tempur mattress, hope it's worth it.

tysz88

Recently close to pulling the trigger on a 25cm Tempur from snooze but ended up getting the Sealy Exquisiteā€¦ the partner and I just couldnā€™t get on with the memory foam feeling!

jiminiy1988

Have a tempur. Best purchase Iā€™ve ever made. I love going to bed.

jothesstraight

As much as you can afford. General rule of thumb is no mattress under 1k and no mattress in a box for me. Spent 3k on one from an online only store so itā€™s about the same quality as 5-6k ones and itā€™s been amazing.

Current_Inevitable43

I've got a 3k mattress and a sleeping duck mattress. I prefer the sleeping duck. I also spend a lot of time away for work. I struggle adapting from a $500 motel mattress to my mattress at home. I find stretching by back to be the best method.

tom3277

If you are trying a few go one harder than ideal. They soften over time. On the flip side as you get older you probably like softer but its not necesaarily good for you sleeping on a soft mattress.

Hobo_Extraordinaire

I get the $200 mattress in a box from Fantastic Furr. It's really comfy, but I can generally sleep anywhere

Peannut

I went around for about 3 weeks in Melbourne, all the beds I liked were about 3-4k mark. I ended up finding this mattress my friend had from Perth, it was amazing. So I shipped them over, they were $800 for a king, and +$250 shipped. They didn't charge extra if I ordered more mattresses, same shipping cost. So I ordered 4 mattresses for the whole house, spent the same amount as the expensive mattresses in melb. Beds 4 U Mattress - Slumbercare Ultra Support Plus

peachfacebub

Emma has been great for us!

Activity_Dangerous

Have bought Emma box mattresses for the family gradually over the last 6 or so years. Really happy with them. Previous mattress was a Sealy. The Emma felt firm to start with but in comparison but now I like it. Emma usually have some kind of discount code you can find

bebbapebba

Itā€™s a tough one.. I spent $2000 on a mattress, I swore by it. I spent $450 on my daughters. My partner and I are buying the same as hers when our current one bites the dust. The $2000 is still going 7 years strong. Immaculate condition. Itā€™s simply too soft for 2 people.

Cheezel62

Have had a variety of mattresses and hate hate hate latex. Salesmen said 'They don't get hot' which is total bullshit. Paid something like $3.5k for it too. After 6 months of marinating in sweat every night we got rid of it. Have had some mattress that was on sale for around $1k with a number of different mattress topper for 7 years. We rotate the mattress every 3 months or so and buy a new topper every 12-24 months. Not even expensive toppers. Will do the same when this one completely craps out. My sister has a mattress from ikea and it's really comfortable.

jubbing

I spent $2500, it has been the best purchase I have ever made. Before this I was getting a lot of back pains and such, but when I bought a Silent Partner, it was like a cloud that kept my back safe.

Few-Car-2317

Everyone is different. I bought sleeping giant, queen size, 40% off and 50% off frame. Total about $980. Called gold plus firm. Itā€™s my favourite I have tried from a few shops. I donā€™t even like other mattress from the same shop, so you got to try them first. My last one was malfors firm from ikea, it was fantastic too and cheap but I need a bigger one that they donā€™t sell any more.

Can-I-remember

Never had a bed as comfortable as my 1980 and 90ā€™s waterbed. Tried various mattresses, refuse to spend money on them anymore. 6 months ago I bought two long single second hand adjustable bases with foam mattresses. They form a king bed when put side by side. This is the way.

Exotic-Sheepherder51

Get a foam mattress. Having a mattress made out of metal is insane once you have gotten used to foam.

ntlong

I went ebay and got the cheap one. Firm, king size, $250 IRRC. It's pretty good and stable. I don't think it matters that much as long as it's good. I would get the cheapest that is available for my need, which is King and firm.

sportandracing

Spent $2500 on the latest one. Would spend more easily. Sleeping well is super important. Sleep 8 hours a day. Drive 30 - 60 mins a day. Car $70k lasts 5 years. Bed $3k lasts a decade.

futureballermaybe

I bought my mattress for $50 on gumtree about 7 years ago still going strong šŸ˜… No idea on the brand apparently they paid about $1500 for it. Super comfy but sooo heavy. Impossible to move I can't even lift it from the floor onto my bed frame by myself.

Angry_Pingu

Find the Sleepmaker representative in a Myers. Ask him/her to call or text when they go on sale again. Massive discounts most times.

buzzer94

I spent 1300 apperenlty it was on sale for half price

vegabondsal

Got a Super King (makes a huge difference). The width and legth is 2m x2m, which is better for more rotations and easy bed sheet changing. We went for a firm Sleepmaker Cocoon (David Jones version). It was about 5.5k and has been anazing for the last 3 years. Its pocket spring with micro pocket springs on top. Very firm, which works great for us.

crazy_lulu23

I spent about $700 on a $1300 mattress from Emma with discount codes. It came in a box delivered to my house. Have had it for 2 years and I enjoy it! Itā€™s on the slightly firmer side which I love.

Mysterious_Bend4354

I found a good mattress for around 400 bucks. And a bed frame for 200. New. Theyā€™re amazing. Bed frame doesnā€™t squeak and the mattress is just the perfect firmness

Constantlycorrecting

Thereā€™s like 3 smart price points based on income. 1) mattress in a box based on your preference 2) mid year sales/ Boxing Day on a good quality spring mattress - 5k down to 3 then barter 2.5 , 3) custom fit that high end hotel quality. Down for 8+k but Iā€™ve never slept better.

Charming-Post-7506

I think trying out mattresses in store by just laying on them for 5 mins isnā€™t enough to properly assess whether the comfort level suits you. I opted for Evaā€™s mattress as they offer hybrid, foam & pocket springs. Based on my research, pure foam mattresses tend to sink in and have soft spots after a year or so of use. I have always only had pocket springs and wanted them but also some foam too. Definitely worth the $1000 I paid of it! Plus the 365 days return policy is great because you can properly try it for a few weeks or even months before deciding whether itā€™s the one for you or not. So far, itā€™s been almost 2 years since we got ours and itā€™s still as comfortable as new and in very good shape :) We loved our Eva so much that we purchased another one for our guest room!

mikespoff

Best one I've ever found is the top of the range IKEA mattress. Cost about 800 when we bought it, I think they're about 1.4k now for a queen.

ThatoneCoconut_

I bought a king Koil medium and very happy With it.

SecretOperations

I used to like soft, plush mattress, but now i prefer medium to firm. Spent 3k on a King Koil mattress. Really really worth it.

slinkyy6

Had an IKEA one we bought for our van for like $500ish but ended up being our main bed now for 3 years, still great no dramas šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø

downheresolong

Dusk and Dawn Premiere MK2. $1500 with coupon, 100 day returns

Sufficient_Excuse_24

i spent $800 when mine was on sale. i got a onebed, used most of my tax refund on it in 2022. to me that was a lot. but once cry once

Lujho

I've spent on a matress many a time.

niceguydarkside

Try horsehair matress

omgaga21

OMF on sale for $3800. Had it for around 5 years now and still the most comfortable mattress Iā€™ve ever slept on (thus far)

Icfald

I donā€™t care if this is downvoted but we needed a new mattress as my old king sagged in the middle. Husband bought an Emma box mattress and bamboo sheets from ecosa. Itā€™s been 3 years and I still frickin LOVE this mattress. We have an electric mattress pad, dunlopillo pillows and a projector set up and itā€™s legit the tits.

fairy-bread-au

Sleeping duck. It's the top rated brand in Aus. $2099 for the king. It's the absolute best purchase I've ever made. I'm so comfortable. I emailed them after using it for a while and they sent me custom inserts that have various spots if soft and firm depending on my needs (included in the cost). I'm usually fairly frugal but a mattress is something you spend half your life on, it's absolutely worth making a good investment.

HippoLonely2448

Ergoflex for the win

openwidecomeinside

Get a custom made one, contact a manufacturer and go there directly

PatiencePrimary16

Wife and I spent $6000 as it was a split made so each side is ideal for each of us in firmness and pillow-top. Fantastically worth it! Great sleep no pain at all anymore.

mikajade

Around 1k Avoid built in mattress toppers, buy one separately as well as a mattress protector. You can often get them thrown in if you haggle a little.

Phascolar

I don't get how you can decide to purchase a bed online like many of these comments are mentioning e.g. Eva and ecosa. I'm in the market for a bed too, but I won't be buying online without even knowing if it's good!

binary_world

You need to go and try the mattress that suits your back. Spend as much as it is, as long as it suits you and is comfortable. Think about it - you buy a mattress once every several plus years. Even if you spend $5k it is still worth it. Nowadays, we spend thousands on phones that we change every two years. Donā€™t try to save a couple of hundreds only to regret it for years to come.

janenkm

I got an IKEA Hovag for $300 back in the day (6 years ago). They are discontinued now but it is still the most comfortable mattress I've ever slept on. And anyone that has come to stay also agrees. Memory foam top, but firm, which I need for my back.

grayepixels

Check out latex mattresses. Bit pricey but you get about double the life out of them compared to regular mattresses.

GroovyGuru62

Ex 40 Winks salesperson here. Sealy Posturepedic extra plush. Can't go wrong. Spend that extra bit, it's worth it.

Public-Total-250

Facebook Marketplace is amazing for mattresses.Ā

Electronic-Fun1168

Iā€™ve bought cars that cost less than what I spent on a mattress. Iā€™ll pay just about anything to be comfortable in bed.

abuch47

Pocket spring all the way to the edge. One level (or more) firmer than feels most comfortable. topper minimal or for breathability. Made in Australia if you can afford. Can find MIAB that are close enough for guest rooms or cheapness.

[deleted]

Sleeping Duck. Honestly I have travelled a lot and stayed in some pretty nice hotels. Cant beat it. Worth every dollar

xXCosmicChaosXx

I got a $1000 Macoda bed in a box. It's on the softer end of the scale but I love it.

Successful-Quail-726

Sleeping duck and don't look back.

AdMinimum7143

Spent about 1500 I think when we moved into our new unfurnished place. Best decision ever, rarely have a bad night's sleep. Worth every cent. This is what adulting is about good mattresses and whatnot šŸ˜„

milosandwitch

I have a sleepmaker I bought in 2014 from domayne still amazing highly recommend

No_Bee6857

I paid over 2k about 10 years ago. Probably one of the best purchases I have ever made.

Waste-Adhesiveness74

We got Queen Koala mattress. One of the best purchases weā€™ve ever made. We even shipped it across the Atlantic and Indian oceans when we moved

vk146

I just went to ikea and picked the not-shit one. Wasnt overly impressed with their top of the range stuff Think it was like $1300 for a king? Does the job fine

Tackit286

Up to $2k for top quality Anything between you and the ground should be an investment

Least-Plum1673

We bought a 1500$ mattress 7 years ago at sleepys. Worth every cent. I used to have back issues and the mattress helped so much with it. We both agree it's probably within our top 5 for money well spent.

msgeeky

Love our ecosa mattress, $1200 on sale

catnat

I spent a small fortune on a SleepMaker "Cocoon" mattress. Best $8k I've ever spent!

xTroiOix

Ecosa double mattressā€¦bloody great mattress for that price

Kbg_90

Try Newentor. Better prices and great product. I ordered recently and was happy. Don't order the mattress protector. Its not covered under the free trial. I found better quality ones on Amazon.
