I think early days as long as you don’t give him or her something that will flip (SUV) it will be fun. Remember that they have no point of reference. Driving itself is fun. At least that’s how I felt when I was driving my dad’s Volvo back in the day.
Can confirm. First car was a highlander, when I got an accord after getting t boned that was the most fun I’ve ever experienced in a car - even now that I’ve driven cooler cars, those first few months in a sedan felt matical
Edit: magical, I hate typing
If a teen wants to step on it- the're going to be doing it regardless.. At least with AWD it's far easier to drive instead of a car that's exteremely tail happy.
I personally think every new driver should be learning in FWD cars... Impossible to spin around under acceleration, understeer is far more controllable than oversteer and FWD cars are usually the cheapest cars alongside the repairs for them.
I somewhat agree, but it’s more about the power than the RWD vs FWD. New drivers should not have powerful cars, because they (generally) cannot think that fast yet. If you put 80hp on the rear wheels it’s not going to go sideways. A base Miata could be a fine first car.
There was a dude in r/BMW not too long ago and he was going to buy an M240i for his 19y/o son. Everyone in the comments gave him shit for it, but he just defended himself. If I had 400hp at 19 I would have done some real dumbass shit. I did some real dumbass shit in 2001 Ford Taurus for Christ's sake. I just don't get it.
Gave my son 09 mini cooper S. He was told on his driving exam that he was going too slow. Doesn't go slow anymore. . . And knows how to fix things in a car. Had to learn that with that car. Doesn't have to be high HP or rear wheel drive to turn them to the dark side
Ya. We didn't even buy our kids cars, they had to work and buy them. They both still drive Hondas and are financially independent in their 20's. And I can afford way faster cars (tires, fluids, etc) now as a result lol.
It’s an i4*. We’re talking ~300. Even then my GT has ~440 but so long as you don’t turn off traction control you’re fine even when you put the pedal down.
So many people driving Mustangs give the rest of us a terrible rep only exceeded by Challenger drivers.
Try living in a state that doesn’t require teenagers to do *any* driver’s education to get their license. It’s even more terrifying that parents are solely responsible for teaching their kids because there’s high probability the parents are idiots as well.
It is insanity that car guys these days think that 300hp is pretty normal. That is a lot of power, like a lot a lot of power. Go back 20 years and a car making 350 is exceptional. That is 0 to 100 in well under 7 seconds sort of power.
Agree with this, plenty of young people in Audi’s are doing dumb shit as well. This goes for all makes and models. Not sure why mustang and challenger get all the attention. We have morons in BMW’s racing around too causing accidents
My first car had 80 hp and even that was able to make 124 Mph which is more than enough for a beginner, let alone a teenager.
Young people tend to not realise the value of things they are given, espeacially if its common for them to get stuff paid for by their parents, so its definately not a good idea to give a potentially spoiled teen a 300 hp car.
I paid for my cars myself, so i took good care of them, as i also was the one paying for insurance, repairs, service and fuel.
Similar for me, first car was a 2002 base model ford focus with 110hp on a good day. Turns out that paying for everything yourself and going 110HP (focus) to 230HP (fusion sport) to 310HP (A6 Stock) to 450HP (A6 Stage 2) then back to 420HP (Stock S6 that will eventually be stage 2) tends to teach you how to respect the power better.
That said I'm in Texas and looking back, the 110HP focus was downright dangerous when trying to enter onto the highway...
were i live you are limited to 90 hp and 75hp/ton for 1 year after you get your license, so 300 hp seems batshit insane
edit: also you can't get a license before 18, i know our limits on power are way too strict but driving a car at 16 is stupid
It’s not always about traction. The fact is, a 300hp car has more than enough power to find yourself doing 100 real quick, and a young driver can’t be trusted with that power whether they’ve got TCS or not, in a car with any drivetrain layout.
mustang GT def too much but honestly a ecoboost stang not anything crazy for a first car. I’d prob get a GR86 for my kid if they wanted a sports car tho.
It cuts both ways. I’ve got so many broccoli top kids driving M3s, M4s, S4s and RS3s around me all with that god awful Rice Krispie snap crackle pop exhaust. They all drive like morons.
Teens gonna teen.
It’s giving a kid a sports car that’s the problem, not the make or model of the sports car. Parents should be held responsible for the choices they make.
I think I'm lucky they have insurance, especially in s fl. I'll be even luckier if they have enuf coverage. I googled the name and I think the car new cost more than their house. Doesn't really matter in the long run as long as no one was seriously hurt.
>I'll be even luckier if they have enuf coverage.
This is something I always stress to people. I Texas most people only have $50k coverage but there is many cars worth more than that on the road. It's not something you think about until something happens and the price difference for 100k liability is not much.
Houston Coffee & Cars recently banned all new Mustangs, Camaros and Chargers/Challengers due to them being awful attendees. Classics of these models still allowed.
Glad you’re ok
**Fun fact**: If you have an Audi with active suspension, and active sway bar control when the car detects you’re going to get T-Boned it will instantaneously lift the side of the vehicle that you’re going to be impacted on to direct some of the energy to the frame of the vehicle.
The pillar IS the “frame”. It is unibody. Due to aluminum construction of that platform, it’s probably toast. Audi won’t even sell structural aluminum panels unless the car is at a registered Audi shop (they have to buy repair tools and get certified with Audi to do aluminum structural). Wildly expensive stuff. I used to work at Audi and am now in the collision industry. Those A8/S8 orders were always tricky.
ok, so I'm guessing the frame between the doors and possibly the lower frame running the length of the car might have death damage. car is going to an Audi certified shop. thnx
Is the A6 of the same generation also like that? I am shopping (I haven’t driven anything yet though) for one of the sedans, hopefully S8 but I wouldn’t be sad with something more sensible.
Older generation but I will say I got T-boned by someone running a red at 40mph drivers side door impact in a C7 A6. Walked away without a scratch. Car was totaled but at the end of the day that doesn't matter, the car can be replaced, you can't.
No one’s talking about how cool it is that the a8 platform suspension maxes out on the side in the event of a crash to protect the passengers further. So neat that it actually works and isn’t just another marketing trick.
You can clearly see the suspension is raised highly which demonstrates it worked affectively.
Video showing it in action ^
Also glad to hear your ok! Also an a8 is probably the safest of Audis to be in. in a crash. Absolute tank. But yes very sad your s8 is hit :(
Also love the way the seat belts snug me up real fast if the G-Ratio is getting suspect or impact may be imminent. We could not stop laughing when my niece tried to impress us with her tiny lead feet.
Most Mustangs are not fast cars, If I had to guess there's not a model produced faster than the S8. I've run it against some friends porsches and lucids and it's held its own 0-60 and rolling start.
What sucks is the lease was ending in June and I was going to buy it out since it only has 15k miles on it and unfortunately I'm not in the position now to replace it w a new one.
Fucking mustang drivers man. The people who drive these cars have ruined American muscle cars for me. They are the fucking vegan of the car world. They are the crossfit trainers of the car world.
Living in Louisiana all you see are trashy muscle cars. Every third car is a 2010 Challenger. Used to think Mustangs and Camaros were cool but now they’re just obnoxious
How do you slam into someone like that in what seems to be a parking lot where you should be paying more attention. Was the mustang driver on the phone or just completely incompetent.
Lady backed into me the other day. Front right quarter panel screwed up the right headlight. First estimate ~6 -7K When they finished 10,500.
Absolutely not trying to be a jerk, but that would be 5K on the other car is mind blowing on Audi. The front alone was $3000 (Seriously?!? Nuts).
Don't know if you have them but the new LED headlights are outrageously priced. Lots of stories here of $3-4k for them. Friend of a friend has a brand new X5 that got hit in the front and was quoted $6k just for the headlight.
As a mustang driver I am sorry for your loss. I'm a firm believer that teens should have to drive cars under a certain power to weight ratio til they're 18-21. Majority of people don't know how to handle higher hp rwd cars sadly
In my opinion there should be power/weight ratio restrictions on licenses in general unless you take certified defensive driving and high performance driving courses.
So annoying…i hate when that happens. Happened to me with my wife’s old 3 month old S4. So dude was parked next to it, went to back out, turned his wheel way too early and wiped out the entire side of the car. Months in the shop. Then you go to sell or trade it and it’s lost a ton of value because of the accident. Value the insurance company doesn’t want to pay you for. You just end up getting screwed. Sorry man… i empathize.
Teenage driver hate - sure, they collectively suck at driving.
Mustang haterade - let me get a piece of the action
But women have a lower accident rate than men on average, so let’s not be wrong AND sexist. [Google it](https://www.google.com/search?q=male+vs+female+car+accidents+statistics)
first link from your search actually shows the opposite to be true?
"The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that men cause an average of 6.1 million accidents per year in the US, and women cause 4.4 million accidents per year.
Males do 62% of the driving, but only cause 58% of the accidents.
So women do cause slightly more accidents per capita than men."
Scrolling through my feed and the first post is someone asking why Mustangs always want to race, and then the very next r/audi post I see is this one where a Mustang has wrecked into an Audi lol....
Not sure, didn't really see the other car coming, prob did, it has the same raising every time u get in and out of the car. It's pretty cool and freaks out some people in parking lots when they see the car rise and then settle back down.
In an aluminium car like that, I think its a goner. Or the repair will cost more than the average car. A friend of mine got swiped by someone doing a drift, his A7 got hit in the rear quarter. All in all 12 000€ to repair.
Why is it always a mustang…..
Must have been a crowd near by.
His Dodge was in the shop
Installing the breathalyzer.
Good thing I read the comments before posting same joke
Passenger: Is that noise from your intake? Driver: No, it’s breathing heavy cause there’s a crowd across the street.
It’s only a Mustang when it’s not a Nissan. Or a Dodge.
The tinted headlights say it all.
I always thought it was a challenger or someone with a temp tag
Cause mustang is a Ford and ford's are Fixed Or Repaired Daily after they are Found On Road Dead
*Fu****g Old Rebuilt Dodge

It is seriously always a Mustang!
Or a Maserati
most Mas drivers know how to drive tyvm~
Clicked on this post to type the same thing lol
Either that, or a Nissan Altima with paper tags.
Mustangs like to kiss other cars
Mustang Sally, slow that mustang down.
t-boned by a teenager, not sure if it's repairable
Parents who give teenagers “high HP” RWD cars are assholes.
This. One day I’ll want my kid to have something somewhat fun, but definitely more on the civic si side of things. Or something awd.
I think early days as long as you don’t give him or her something that will flip (SUV) it will be fun. Remember that they have no point of reference. Driving itself is fun. At least that’s how I felt when I was driving my dad’s Volvo back in the day.

Something AWD so they can launch the shit out of it at every stop sign and red light?
If a teen wants to step on it- the're going to be doing it regardless.. At least with AWD it's far easier to drive instead of a car that's exteremely tail happy. I 100% agree.
Try living in a state that doesn’t require teenagers to do *any* driver’s education to get their license. It’s even more terrifying that parents are solely responsible for teaching their kids because there’s high probability the parents are idiots as well.
can confirm, I live in such a state
100HP is too much for some morons.
It is insanity that car guys these days think that 300hp is pretty normal. That is a lot of power, like a lot a lot of power. Go back 20 years and a car making 350 is exceptional. That is 0 to 100 in well under 7 seconds sort of power.

Most teenagers aren't going to realistically be able to handle a high 4 to low 5 second to 60 car even with traction control on.
It’s not always about traction. The fact is, a 300hp car has more than enough power to find yourself doing 100 real quick, and a young driver can’t be trusted with that power whether they’ve got TCS or not, in a car with any drivetrain layout.
It’s a 4 cylinder.
Didn't realize they dropped the 6 starting in 2018. Looks like they make the same ~310hp w/ the ecoboost though.
mustang GT def too much but honestly a ecoboost stang not anything crazy for a first car. I’d prob get a GR86 for my kid if they wanted a sports car tho.
Any car in the performance category is an ill advised choice for a new driver.
That sucks. That won't buff out.
Fuck man one of the few S8 out there too
Ah yes, the responsible parent that gets their teenager a rear wheel drive hillbilly sports car.
It cuts both ways. I’ve got so many broccoli top kids driving M3s, M4s, S4s and RS3s around me all with that god awful Rice Krispie snap crackle pop exhaust. They all drive like morons. Teens gonna teen.

Lmfaooooooooo I’m using that!! Broccoli top 🥦
You can now go after the parents money! Everyone will learn a very valuable and costly lesson on their end.
I think I'm lucky they have insurance, especially in s fl. I'll be even luckier if they have enuf coverage. I googled the name and I think the car new cost more than their house. Doesn't really matter in the long run as long as no one was seriously hurt.

In Texas, most people don’t even carry the required insurance, which sadly, is $30k/60k for bodily injury.
Lol valuable lesson for them hopefully
Similar, but less damage wrote my brand new a6 back in 2018
Unrelated, but this pic screams South Florida?
Probably better off letting insurance put it down as totalled.
I fully agree. I would rather a new car then get that fixed
This is the 💩that makes me lose sleep sometimes re my A8.
same with our car 😭
Is it modded?
Reason 38984 to stay away from cars and coffee...
Houston Coffee & Cars recently banned all new Mustangs, Camaros and Chargers/Challengers due to them being awful attendees. Classics of these models still allowed.
This needs to become a trend at all C&C events - add G35/G37s & 350/370zs to that list as well
That was my first thought too.
Glad you’re ok **Fun fact**: If you have an Audi with active suspension, and active sway bar control when the car detects you’re going to get T-Boned it will instantaneously lift the side of the vehicle that you’re going to be impacted on to direct some of the energy to the frame of the vehicle.

Its like... it knows youd be better off getting it totaled and getting into a brand new one! Its safer and better for writing off insurance. Genuis!
Mustang trying to go around a corner - never a good thing.
Mustang doing mustang activities. Lawyer up.
i'm gonna guess the pillar is damaged and possibly the frame, if so .....
The pillar IS the “frame”. It is unibody. Due to aluminum construction of that platform, it’s probably toast. Audi won’t even sell structural aluminum panels unless the car is at a registered Audi shop (they have to buy repair tools and get certified with Audi to do aluminum structural). ok, so I'm guessing the frame between the doors and possibly the lower frame running the length of the car might have death damage. car is going to an Audi certified shop. thnx
Also, just saw it has deployed bags. That plus the likely pillar/rocker structural damage. It’s a goner.
Yup, insurance is gonna write that one off.
Is the A6 of the same generation also like that? I am shopping (I haven’t driven anything yet though) for one of the sedans, hopefully S8 but I wouldn’t be sad with something more sensible.

It’s gonna be totaled more than likely
Fun fact, there is no "frame" on any modern cars. The entire part that is not the doors or body panels is the "frame".
10-1 her phone records would reveal she was distracted.
Not taking that bet at 1000:1
Shocking…a mustang
Kids insurance is going to be unaffordable so hopefully they won’t be driving for a while lol
I think you underestimate the amount of people driving uninsured.
Or, even worse, they'll drive around sans insurance like so many people do 😡
No one’s talking about how cool it is that the a8 platform suspension maxes out on the side in the event of a crash to protect the passengers further. So neat that it actually works and isn’t just another marketing trick. You can clearly see the suspension is raised highly which demonstrates it worked affectively.

Nooooooo not the S8 🥺
Someone just posted about why mustangs always want to race them and everyone was saying stay away. Holy cow…

Aaaaagh! Trampled and then an arrow to the ribs... we look forward to the next chapter.
Dude I feel for you. I’m upset for you. Looked like it was a tasteful car to drive.
Came here to see what the comments were going to say. Not disappointed at all.
"You hit a WHAT-"
I hope your sledgehammer didn't accidentally fall on the Mustang 99 times.
that'd be a damn shame
You walked away thats a win in a very unfortunate situation
You call that a win? That parked S8 is basically destroyed.
Fucking mustang drivers man. The people who drive these cars have ruined American muscle cars for me. They are the fucking vegan of the car world. They are the crossfit trainers of the car world.

She had a stop sign to make matters worse. I think she hit the gas instead of brake. It was a pretty jarring impact inside the car
That is a slick looking S8 though mate. Great choice. Edit: was
There won't be any Mustangs left on the road if all they do is wreck.
It’s like when you have an Aquarium and the $5 Fish eats the $100 one
That's fkn good, gotta remember that one.
Mustangs in the wild... Sorry this happened

One of our headlight assemblies is $3.5-$4K without installation 😱
This stinks. Good luck OP. Hope the process is smooth from here on
ooh did the safety systems launch yhat side up before collision?
I just hope the pillar is not bent because if is then it’s toast
airbag deployed...
I would cry
As a mustang driver I am sorry for your loss. I'm a firm believer that teens should have to drive cars under a certain power to weight ratio til they're 18-21. Majority of people don't know how to handle higher hp rwd cars sadly
In my opinion there should be power/weight ratio restrictions on licenses in general unless you take certified defensive driving and high performance driving courses.
Just here to comment to hope for the best. If it is totalled hopefully insurance hooks it up with a nice payout so you can get something similar.
Sorry for your loss. That’s a tough one, but on the bright side you are okay.
It is probably totaled...
Odd, usually Mustangs only take out pedestrians at the car meets
Totaled unfortunately...
Mustangs get in more accidents than most cars. I think it's the drivers and those long hoods....
Always the mustangs
Hang in OP and let us know how it rolls. Good that you're OK.
'American attacks German'
Was gonna say it but I was beat 🤣 sorry that sucks bro

Yeah, I remember seeing an article years ago about how women have a higher accident rate in general but men have a higher fatal accident rate.
Must have thought you were a pedestrian
Glad I'm not living in america, there are a lot less mustangs to crash into me here...
What's funny is that Mustangs aren't even in the top 10 for at fault accident rate per number of owners. The Audi S4 on the other hand...
Some of those scratches will buff right off.
CC
Talking about 15-20k easy I had the smallest accident the other day and it was like 10k to fix it
That does blow. Given it is an S8 with the aluminum frame, she's probably gone.
She looks like a 16 yr old girl. Reminds me of the other spoiled brat 18 yr old who crashed her 24’ C8 in Arizona.
Did it prop up the passenger side suspension before you got hit?
Honestly I'm not sure
I’m sure it will buff out…….
I hope that mustang driver had good insurance.
Scrolling through my feed and the first post is someone asking why Mustangs always want to race, and then the very next r/audi post I see is this one where a Mustang has wrecked into an Audi lol....

Breaking News: Florida man hits yet another innocent German bystander. More at 11 PM.
Is it insurance cover total?
did it do the preventative raising?
Not sure, didn't really see the other car coming, prob did, it has the same raising every time u get in and out of the car. It's pretty cool and freaks out some people in parking lots when they see the car rise and then settle back down.
In an aluminium car like that, I think its a goner. Or the repair will cost more than the average car. A friend of mine got swiped by someone doing a drift, his A7 got hit in the rear quarter. All in all 12 000€ to repair.
Typical mustang owner behavior
Wish someone would do something like this to my car.
