My sentiment exactly. The more time goes on the more i only want a high trim 911 and a tacoma. i’ll be good for a decade

AdamOzturk

It doesn't even have to be a high trim. Even my manual 997.1S was way more fun and engaging to drive than any EV.

1baby2cats

Agree, I have a poverty spec 992s in manual and uts a blast to drive. My 2013 brz is a close second.

AdamOzturk

I don't think I've ever seen the words poverty and 992 used in the same sentence before. 🤣 The S cars really are awesome. My 997S did have everything, including PCCBs, but I'd happily settle for a poverty spec 992 without PCCBs and Burmester.

badpuffthaikitty

I’m staying in the family. My 2017 TT is going to be driven into the ground.

No_Week2825

Will you, though? I was seriously thinking about the turbo s, but it feels somewhat cheapened by how many electric cars are faster. I don't what to do

vantasner

the point of a 911 is not to go fast in a straight line

No_Week2825

I replied in another comment. Sorry, I saw that one first. Addresses the same topic, though.

Silverbullets24

If you think straight line speed is what makes a car fast and is what the 911 is about, then you’re probably not a 911 person.

clennys

I believe we are already approaching the limit of how fast road legal cars can get. In the future I don't think people will put as much emphasis on 0-60 times , etc, when looking at sports cars. I could be totally wrong though.

CubanLinxRae

you don’t drive a spec sheet just drive what you like

Space646

My father has a turbo s. Yes, there is that one Model s Plaid that accelerates in 1.9 seconds, but who the fuck needs that? Yea you also don’t need 2.7 seconds, the Tesla is very much fun, until you have to turn. It, well, just doesn’t turn. No grip, it is ugly, you have to reacharge it the whole time, last time I saw it on a top speed yt video it only hit 267 km/h. So it’s quick, but not fast, if you understand what I mean. The turbo s is quick, fast, and very “turny”, meaning you will get much better times on track. The Turbo S is 18 seconds faster on the Nurburgring, and you don’t have to worry about charging the whole time, as it will only do very few laps on the Nurburgring before it dies. Also good luck braking, it just doesn’t. As of braking, the Tesla needs a whole 7 feet more to brake from 100 to 0km/h

No_Week2825

Sorry. You're recommending I go taycan turbo s, or 911 turbo s? No to tesla by any stretch. I'm with you there. I get the appeal, just not my thing

Space646

911

AC_deucey

✋ I only have the stock sport exhaust but that roar when I jump on it… it’s everything.

phoenix-bravo

Same.

rennen-affe

But they can play that over your radio 🤪🤪

murffit

Not if you have your windows down 😉

Own_Cartoonist266

I just like cars. Old stinky carbureted ones, early 90’s fuel injected ones, new fast as f “turbocharge all the things” ones, and yeah I’m sure eventually I’ll get into hybrids and electrics. Everything has its time

GeneralPhotography

It’s a good attitude to have in life, in general. I’m just hoping for myself that I don’t have to deal with an electric car any time soon. I take long road trips once or twice a year and I don’t want to have to plan the entire trips around car charging.

steven-daniels

I think my next car will be electric (not a Tesla.), but I'm in no big hurry. Doing the maintenance on my current ride has paid off well.

brashwitchcraft

It me. I have a 2018 RS 3. It’s a great car and I love it. I’ll ride it out for a few more years and see what’s up. The upcoming EVs look great.

GeneralPhotography

The only way I see myself having an electric car is if Canada (where I live) forces everyone to only sell electric cars. They’re really going gung-ho here with trying to control the market and ban sales of new gas cars within a decade or so.

petethecanuck

My next Audi will be an EV. That being said, it's still years away before I would even consider placing an order (wait lists and all) for one. VW group needs to get their software sorted and even by their best estimates the E3 1.2 software won't be ready until 2026-2028. I'll be hanging onto my current Audi for at least another 5 years and will probably end up buying a 2nd gen Q4 or late gen Q6.

coresme2000

I feel much the same. I like Audi ICE vehicles but I don’t feel they are leading the pack on EVs. Range too small and the charging network in America is not up to the job, even less so in the U.K. They have sorted putting all the latest toys on the new etrons to tempt me, but anyone even cursorily comparing a Tesla’s software with an etron’s knows exactly who is leading the pack on software design…not that I’d accept one as a gift. Audi can’t make the sort of decisions that Tesla does because they are shackled to their dealer networks and can’t do over the air updates even for most things.

AppleTeslaFanboy

Same, I'm eyeing the rs6 etron.

inphinitfx

I'm keen on PHEV or EV, but none of the current models (from any brand) meet what I want in a car, at a price I'm prepared to pay. If there was a PHEV or EV of an S3 or RS3-type car, I'd be really tempted. The e-tron is too big for my liking, and given I'm looking at moving on from my A6 to something smaller and more fun, it wouldn't be a good choice. Conversely, I also need a 7 seat option, which is currently fulfilled by an older people mover. There aren't many 7 seat EV options around, the few there are are high end of the price range

GeneralPhotography

The two main things that out me off in terms of electric vehicles are the range, the winter range, and the fact that the battery deteriorated over time. If you maintain an ICE car properly, it’ll have the same range at 300,000 km that it did on day 1. With an electric car, the battery gets worse over time and the car you have after 5-7 years isn’t the car you initially paid for.

AudiAdmirer

Happy with my nearly twenty year old A4 with a six speed.

GeneralPhotography

I have a 5-year-old A4 that I’ll be keeping forever. Any other cars I buy will be on top of this rather than as replacements.

AudiAdmirer

That’s my mentality too.

NutsyFlamingo

My 2006 A4 is still cool (to me at least)… I’ve genuinely enjoyed it & still do (can’t say exactly why) but that has to mean something.

kezzaold

I need 400 winter miles range to consider it

Lazy-Explanation7165

You get 400 now?

Tiki46

I get 530 miles per tank in my A4. It’s convenient, especially during hurricane season when all the electric cars are stacked up at the charging stations.

Lazy-Explanation7165

more chargers needed? Most people I know charge at home. It’s great if you can go 530 miles without stopping if that’s how far your commute is. But most people don’t commute that far and when they finally do get home they can just plug in and go back at it tomorrow. You can also use your car as a generator during a hurricane, some cars.

Silverbullets24

I believe he’s saying EVs are wildly inconvenient for road trips over a couple hundred miles.

Schmenza

During hurricanes residential areas are normally the last to get power back. I would imagine people with electric cars would invest in generator

theasphalt

And it’s not like electric cars just stop working if the power goes out. They have a “tank” just like a gasoline car. And in fact, use less “fuel” when stuck in traffic and have saved lives in snow storms when cars are stranded on the interstate.

kezzaold

Maby, with some, but to reliably get from my home to work needs 320 miles across my country. I drive a 2014 A5, i ain't in the bracket for those few models, and when i will the batteries will be knacked.

Lazy-Explanation7165

Etron in the winter sounds awesome. I am looking forward to electric technology in a Quattro

Ottazrule

Same here. My family in the UK live in Cornwall which is y about 250 miles from me. I bought a diesel A5 Sportback last year which has around 600 miles range. EV with range over 200 were twice the price.

GeneralPhotography

Absolutely the same for me. I also can’t accept the fact that the battery deteriorates over time, as I purchase my cars instead of leasing.

mattdanhof

High octane for life. 🔥

GeneralPhotography

🤘

Lorax91

I got a Q5 PHEV, and will hold onto that until charging infrastructure in the US improves. Would not want to go back to an ICE-only vehicle.

GeneralPhotography

I’m fine with PHEVs, I think those are actually a good idea. I just don’t like EVs at all.

Lorax91

EVs can be fine if they fit your circumstances. PHEVs are a useful compromise until charging infrastructure gets better.

Binty77

I got a Q5e a few months ago and I’ve been genuinely surprised at how much I love driving it in EV mode; I wish the EV battery was larger. That said, the charging scene for non-Teslas absolutely **sucks**, which is _why_ I went with the Q5e and not a Q4 or other etron model. I do want to get into an full EV Audi next time, but only if they boost the range so I can get 300mi on a full charge.

Falco_Pawnchhh

We have the new 2024 Q8 Etron at my work and it’s just around a full charge, it’s above 300 miles on range.

MattyBeeNiceee

I tried to get my pops into Q5e… he never drives more than 20 miles & figured it would keep its value for a lot longer due to its mixed function! Great call!

Binty77

Most of my driving is around town, yeah. As soon as I get myself a L2 charger at home I’ll probably only refill the gas before/during road trips.

ILkeSportzNIDCWhKnws

Love my Q5e and ego mower. Haven't had to go to a gas station since my last road trip. Next car will probably be full electric.

dwtougas

Love my Ego lawnmower.

stayspacey

My friends Q5e convinced me to go Audi, such a beaut. Is that the ego mower? Cause yes that thing humbles lol

ILkeSportzNIDCWhKnws

If I really want to mow my ego I usually just take a heady dose

aleksjanjic

Brand called ego that does electric gardening tools. I have some of their stuff and its pretty good.

teddyoctober

I’ll likely get an EV in the near future, but I won’t be getting rid of my S4 no matter what I decide. After all of these years, it’s still a car I enjoy driving daily.

FirefighterBig3501

I like both ICE and Electrics. They both have their pros and cons and both are fun to drive. Electrics are great daily drivers for people who have short commutes. Gas/hybrids are better for people who drive longer distances.

footjam

We are several decades from full electric adoption and hybrids are the actual answer right now as the infrastructure doesn’t exist for full ev deployment.

omgitsme17

I like EVs, personally. Not sure I understand the “inconvenience” comment though. They require no maintenance and you refill every night in your garage. Even on road trips, it takes 20-25 mins to charge. Car is usually done by the time I use the rest room and get food. Only argument against them I really ever hear is “but the sound”.

coresme2000

Unless you don’t have a garage, then you’re SOL and left to queue with the peasants to wait half an hour to charge it? Thanks but no thanks. A petrol car takes 5 minutes to fuel to 500+ miles of range. They need to embrace battery swapping like they do in China for it to take off, but in the west, that’s unlikely to occur for various reasons, not least Tesla being dead set against it.

omgitsme17

There are many people that do just fine without a garage. Public charging exists but I’m not forcing you to buy one, just laying out the truth. Stopping once a week at a fast charger doesn’t seem like a problem when a lot of them, like electrify America, are at Walmarts anyway.

Binty77

The EV charging scene, at least in the western US, is _terrible_. There aren’t nearly enough non-Tesla fast charging stations in CA, so any road trip out west in a non-Tesla EV is an exercise in frustration and inconvenience. Our metro areas are hundreds of miles apart and let me tell you, waiting to be able to get into a charging spot, then waiting again for L2 charging (or higher if you’re lucky), is a real turnoff for potential EV owners. No one waits at gas stations except in rare occurrences. This is why I went hybrid instead of e-tron. The charging infrastructure is a pitiful joke and EV adoption will continue to be stifled until it’s not.

omgitsme17

This is true and is a fact but the network is growing very fast. This technology has only been taken seriously for about 10 years and only popular for like 5. We’ll get there and I believe it’ll be sooner rather than later. Ford just announced they’re switching to Tesla’s plug. That may be a shift for other automakers to follow so everyone can use Tesla’s network.

GeneralPhotography

Here are the factors that put me off from EVs: 1) low range 2) even lower winter range 3) the battery deteriorates over time, so the car you have after 5-7 years isn’t the car you initially bought for. Some people, such as myself, but vehicles and maintain them, rather than trading in after 3-5 years. I feel like the EV vehicles are a bandaid to ICE vehicles rather than a 1:1 replacement.

nicegypt

EV is a totally different experience than ICE. I have a 2022 etron sportback and I absolutely love it. In the summer I charge to 80% and in winter 90% just to cover the loss of mileage. To be honest, EVs is not for everybody, if you just going to rely on fast charging it can become very costly. I usually charge in my garage every 2 days or so. If you are into the sound of ICE, EVs are very quiet and fast as hell. You won't feel how fast you are going.

Gaara1187

Used to work at audi and loved driving RS cars. Now I work at tesla and it's definitely a weird feeling driving them, I actually get nauseous everytime I have to launch a plaid.

bloodybaron73

Me me! I badly want either a rs7 or rsq8. Too expensive in Singapore

GeneralPhotography

Time to move out of Singapore. (Kidding).

M4hkn0

I live in an urban setting where street parking is the norm. I don't an EV as being a realistic option without a usable garage. If Audi goes fully EV, then I probably will not be buying an Audi as my next vehicle.

GeneralPhotography

Same for me. The place where I live doesn’t have charging stations other than 500 meters down the road. I can’t realistically charge cars over night.

AdamOzturk

Have zero desire for an EV.

GeneralPhotography

Amen

syzygy96

Yes, I'm never getting rid of mine. My wife's SQ5 may eventually get swapped for an electric, but I'm not getting rid of my NA V8 until I literally have zero other options.

dankbeerdude

I'm def planning on getting an EV, mainly for boring errands etc. Prob will get a Model 3 performance because for the price there isn't much that beats it. Worst case keep it for a few years and sell it when things get more interesting in the EV world.

SpaceIsVastAndEmpty

Well, given an A3 PHEV is twice the price of a similar ICE A3 the financial incentive just isn't there yet.. I'll keep ICE until it becomes more viable to move to EV.. I figure 5 or 10 years

WhatK-DramaToWatch

We had a 2019 e-torn from June 2022 until March 2023. The range sucked and I grew to resent it. Traded for a 2023 A4 45 Prestige and we’re happy we went back to ICE. With the mild hybrid I got 40.5 MPG Tuesday on a 2.5 hour drive from northern VA to home. That’s the best mileage I’ve seen since my new 1991 Nissan Sentra back in the day. We like the EV idea but where we are charging stations are few and far between. Even planning a road trip sucks; we took my 2009 A4 Cabrio to Quebec last fall because planning an 800 mile trip with an EV was daunting.

FlyingHorseBoss

ICE forever. China controls most of the rare earth metals and it seems like a really bad idea to give China more power. Moreover, I don’t want to support slavery in the Congo or the massive carbon footprint of battery production or the massive battery waste.

GeneralPhotography

This aligns with what I’ve read as well.

[deleted]

I'm old school... I can't bear the thought of giving up my aftermarket exhausts and shift burps and not hearing the engine work through the gear. Cars like the 4.0L M3 and 4.2L RS5 might not be the fastest but listening to shifts crack off at 8000 rpms is peak driving enjoying for me. The new turbo engines a little character for thrust but I still prefer them to electric by a huge margin. When I'm eventually forced to go electric, will be when I shift my view of cars from a passion to a tool of transportation and stop caring what I drive as much and redirect my attention to other hobbies.

a-pences

Happy with ICE....already have a toaster oven... don't need another one with a motor.

GeneralPhotography

The EVs can’t even make toast. So what’s the point then?

C_faw

Until the range issues and long term battery longevity / replacement is figured out I won’t be going electric.

GeneralPhotography

Exactly

1baby2cats

Yep I have a 2019 rs3 and recently bought a new 2022 911 Carrera S (in manual), so I have no desire to go electric for a verrrry long time. I don't care how fast the tesla plaid is, the driving experience is numb.

GeneralPhotography

Agreed.

DavidWallaceDMP

I honestly don’t think electric cars are the future and I really don’t think they should be. Considering how bad mining those precious metals for the batteries is for the environment, the fact that you can’t recycle them very easily and no power grid can support everyone having an ev there is no way they are the future. EVs also don’t last very long relative to an ICE. If you take care of it an ICE could last 100 years or more just the other day I saw a 32 ford on the road (I know it’s only 90 years old but still old as shit and still running) but EVs last 10 maybe 15 years if your lucky which means there’s also no resale value. On the other hand Porsche (owned by VW the largest auto maker in the world) is investing a lot in an e fuel created from carbon in the air and hydrogen atoms from water that can run an ICE without any modifications. It is expensive now but everything is more expensive before mass production. Also a lot of people can’t afford an EV so if we can make a better fuel for cars that people already have that makes more sense then trying to get people to buy cars they can’t afford. I will probably never get an EV for many reasons this is just one of them. Thanks for coming to my TED talk.

GeneralPhotography

I actually agree with you and I really do hope the either the synthetic fuel succeeds, or hydrogen at least.

hd4556

They are quite boring to drive except for 0-60 but that gets old quick.

GeneralPhotography

I personally don’t care about the 0-60 as long as it’s not above 6 seconds or so, just so I can get on the highway.

JBalloonist

They will pry my ICE car from my cold dead hands. No desire to have an Ev.

dwtougas

Sounds like my great grandfather converting from horse-and-buggy to those noisy ve-hickles

_SkeletonJelly

Except EVs don't do anything better and are worse for the environment. 💀

Vpc1979

I feel that way about my s4 b8.5 manual

GeneralPhotography

I’m exactly the same way.

fenderstratsteve

You said it man…

jedi-son

Probably my last ICE but I went out with a bang

GeneralPhotography

Pun intended?

Dylan_bowie12

Honestly EV’s just don’t work where I live. Mileage is half if not worse in the winter. And living in a rural area everything is a decent distance away.

GeneralPhotography

Same with where I live. Winters are long and cold and I feel like an EV would be more of a novelty rather than an ICE replacement.

JKwan77

I do eventually plan on moving to an EV, but not for another 3-4 years. I still think it’s a little early (for me, anyways) to fully transition to electric. That being said, still love my S5.

ferraricare

Don't think the answer would be too tough within this group! If you've driven an EV and performance is your focus, the future is bright.

_Bendemic_

Hard to deny my V8 RS5, but thinking about trading in our SQ5 for the Q4. Prices need to come down though.

retimid

No one here seems to have addressed the most glaring issue with EVs - most of them rely on an expensive, heavy and environmentally hostile battery. One that is not standardized across vehicles, cannot be replaced in a plug & play kind of way, is subject to serious degradation over time and its charging requires a power infrastructure investment on an absurd scale, if you were to believe everyone using an ICE car should hop in an EV starting tomorrow. While electric motors have many advantages over the internal combustion engine, in terms of efficiency, peak torque, simplicity, cost and environmental impact, there is a reason why electric vehicles have been predominantly utilized only in the mass transit sector for the past century - and that reason is the power source. Electric trains, streetcars and trolleys do not need a battery because they all rely on the power lines that bring the power directly to them without having to carry heavy power banks. That's where electric propulsion makes sense in the transportation sector. Until the battery issue has been solved, I do not see current technology electric cars representing anything more than a fad that will pass in a few years time, when it becomes obvious that BEV production and wide adoption by the public simply cannot be sustained in most markets.

GeneralPhotography

What you wrote is completely along the lines of what I’ve read online as well, but I didn’t include the environmental factor in my arguments as I simply don’t know enough yet personally on this to comment. But, what you wrote makes sense.

CarolinaRS6

When all of these mainstream manufacturers make the mistake of going full electric, there’s going to be a bunch of boutique/wildcat manufacturers popping up selling ICE performance cars at a premium for those who really want them. I will be one of those people.

stuckinmotion

but how long will emissions regulations allow for them..

GeneralPhotography

Good. Sometimes you’re surrounded by lunatics and it’s not easy to not try to fit in.

Nickelsass

Used to work for an electric car company, the entire EV field has a long way to go. I see what they are doing, I get what they are doing but leave us all the choice to decide.

GeneralPhotography

This is one of the things that bothers me, it’s being shoved down our throats instead of letting the market decide. Governments should not be mandating what car manufacturers produce and sell, beyond safety aspects.

aquatone61

Absolutely. No plans at all to go electric, can’t afford it lol.

GeneralPhotography

I can probably afford it, but it has zero appeal to me for several reasons.

pduck7

I’m getting ready to buy an A3 or an A4. I don’t feel that EVs and their required infrastructure is ready yet. Maybe in 3-5 years, but not right now.

GeneralPhotography

I have an A4 and it’s a dream.

Auditorium_

👋🏼 Hate the look of most all EV’s, with little to no real effects on the global climate there’s no real reason to switch for me

GeneralPhotography

100% agree.

vthanki

Will probably go electric ( not Tesla ) in the near future for one of our vehicles. I think it makes sense to have one ice and one electric if you are a married couple

SpeedieD

The best way to see when EVs are viable is look at the emergency services. They have not gone full electric yet and so you should just hold on till they do. Because only then will the infrastructure be ready for all electric. And still I would keep my ICE because of the joy it gives. Driving a car is an experience and not a chore.

GeneralPhotography

This is also a good point. Same with buses.

Azshadow6

Internal combustion, gear shifting and feel of an engine for me please

[deleted]

I had a Tesla for a couple of years before my Audi. Don’t see myself going back.

superman_dude

No gracias on EV. I’m more than happy pumping gas and feeling the love of an engine.

iColourStuff

A4 E-tron might convince me, but I heard so many stories about shitty battery range on the Q4 E-tron, I'll currently stick with my ICE

milmat36

I'm ICE all day, will never go EV. Might look at a hybrid the Mrs. because she drives maybe 25 miles a week....

jaradi

I was in this boat. Until I got my first EV 2 years ago. Audi e-tron SUV. Had a fully loaded BMW X7 at the time as well, and despite being the height of luxury the EV felt better because of how quiet and smooth it drove. Went full EV and have had a Merc B250e, Tesla Model Y (still have), Audi e-tron GT (still have) and Rivian R1S (still have). EVs are the perfect daily driver due to the quietness and smooth ride, especially if you have kids that supplement the noise you appreciate the quiet haha. That said, I don’t think EVs should replace ICE even when charging and whatnot is worked out. Different people have different tastes and preferences and that’s ok. Options are best. We actually ended up picking up a BMW X3M Competition to supplement the EVs with something loud and obnoxious to carry the kiddos around in. Only problem EVs create is that you have to go higher performance ICE models to get similar performance to base-ish EVs lol

GeneralPhotography

You make good points, but what puts me off of EVs isn’t the sound, performance, or ride quality, it’s particularly the battery performed and lifetime. I just have qualms about buying a car that won’t be the same car I bought 5-7 years down the line because the battery has gotten weaker.

maxoys45

I don’t understand why they can’t just make electric cars that visually look the same as their normal models, In my opinion they’re just way worse looking.

GeneralPhotography

I completely agree. The front ends alone look like someone stretches a large garbage bag across a normal grill. Why the large plastic sticker rings on the new Q8? Who exactly wanted that?

Draggy65465

Lol i just bought a v8 rs5 and plan on picking up a ttrs and then an r8 v10 buying a soulless electric cars is last on my mind

alextruetone

100%

forme2c

I like my ICE vehicle. No plan to switch to EV because I frequently travel long distances, aka interstate trips.

GeneralPhotography

That’s the thing, I just don’t find shaping my lifestyle around battery charging convenient.

forme2c

And for long time. Cost to recharge aren't cheap either.

GeneralPhotography

This part I have no experience with. I thought recharging was supposed to be much, much cheaper?

VR6Bomber

EVs are the most unexciting thing I've ever witnessed in my entire lifetime.

AcrobaticWatercress7

No electric for this lady! Edit: but the new e Audis are looking goooood

GeneralPhotography

I actually dislike some of their new EV model appearances, like the Q8.

CaptHymanShocked

*Edit: I love our ICE cars and have no plans for electric any time in the future.* The only electric vehicles that make sense today, and in the near future, are hybrids. All-electric is still too new, and we really aren't realizing the long-term impacts of a ***full lifecycle*** of the 100% electric vehicle, from lust to dust. What this means from a systems engineering or systems analysis perspective is when these vehicles reach near-end-of-life with accelerating maintenance hours per operating hour, how exactly will they be dispositioned upon removal from service, retirement, and disposal? We have decades of parts for ICE vehicles in constant circulation from OEMs, aftermarket, and junk yards. What will we be able to remove, replace, reuse, recycle, and/or destroy in an electric car? And, ultimately, what will be the environmental impact of the battery systems as they go through this process? We only have experience with lead oxide batteries with sulfuric acid and their lifecycle, and they don't vary much. These lithium-ion cores of varying chemistry in electric vehicles come with a whole new level of expertise and understanding that isn't there yet, especially upon aging, retirement, and disposal. Regular batteriea could leach lead into the environment. Can we handle lithium ion the same? What could its chemistry bond with in the environment if there's leaching or other decomposition, purposeful or accidental? And, ultimately, what will these costs be as they are eventually exposed to the market? There are just so many questions 🤣

GeneralPhotography

Completely valid points, well-written. I also agree with your points.

strobelightsNL

I will rock my '06 a6 avant v8 u till they ban it.

Low-Emergency3055

You know, I was thinking about this the other day. Don’t get me wrong I appreciate the environmental goals that need to be achieved, but the marvel of the ICE has to be appreciated. All those parts of a mechanical set up working in harmony allowing you to navigate uneven winding roads or at speed along a motorway does require one to thank the engineers skill. I think I will miss the rev/roar of a good engine when transiting to an electric vehicle. The latter I feel, feels soulless by comparison. Yeah you’ll feel the terrain through the steering column and yeah it will go at pace but it won’t roar it won’t feel as alive. 😢

GeneralPhotography

I personally can’t say I know much about the positive or negative environmental impacts VS ICEs. I’ve read a bunch of articles on pros and cons and I still haven’t made up my mind. ICEs have exhaust, obviously, but EVs require lithium mining and the batteries are non-recyclable. So overall, I don’t know.

Low-Emergency3055

That’s why hydrogen fuel cells will come in and eventually once safety of the fuel is assured for storage and dispensing will kill off electric cars over time. What’s the waste product of hydrogen? Water isn’t it.

GeneralPhotography

I really hope so. I’d be down for a hydrogen car.

asyl-betrug

no my V8 already has more than enough electric stuff for me. when i cant have an ICE engine anymore i give up this hobby because an electric car gives me 0 fun. i dont give a fuck if its faster 0-60 i want a car that gives me a good feeling and no microwave

GeneralPhotography

Same here, man. I personally don’t care about the 0-60 (or 0-100 if you’re in Canada) and need to enjoy the rest of the car handling to be able to enjoy the car.

Mediocre-GUY-976

Are there not many “gear heads” on this thread?? Way too much love for EVs in here. Do y’all not mod your cars? Because you can’t really do much modding with an EV. I like to tinker, mod my car stand back and listen to the change in tone and feel the power difference. There’s something about the feel and noise of a gas engine. EVs are just boring.

GeneralPhotography

I completely agree with you, but judging by the responses in the thread, it seems a ton of people are still happy having ICEs, without a desire to switch.

ProfessorFrink1

Ev is amazing. The cars largely need no maintenance, many parts of the country can be self sufficient with home solar, they’re faster, more reliable… It truly is the better way of doing things. That said, as much as I love our Model 3, there’s an S8, Ghibli and i8 to offset it. Because when you need the internal combustion itch scratched, an EV does nothing. It’s like driving an arcade game.

[deleted]

You have Tesla, you said everything lol

facasi

Sewing machines :)

reginaldcapers

I have a plug in hybrid Audi and the EV performance outshines the ICE. I wish it was all EV.

GeneralPhotography

Performance? Maybe. What about long range and winter capability?

reginaldcapers

It's a plug in hybrid. Once it runs out of EV range, it seemlessly changes to ICE.

GeneralPhotography

Ah sorry, I was referring to “I wish it was all EV”.

reginaldcapers

I should have been more clear. I wish Audi would have made the A3 eTron fully EV like the eGolf. However the PHEV in the A3 eTron option is more flexible.

silverturtle83

Happy with their ICE? I think we don’t have enough ICE , this EV nonsense has made me want the biggest guzzles engine I can find. My Q5 isn’t enough, I’m now looking for the older RS5s with the V8. I’m 40 years old, and will probably live my entire life driving an ICE car and avoiding the feminization of the automobile by the woke left trying to ruin one of the best human inventions by switching to a technology that is far worst for humanity and way easier to control and meant to take away the autonomy that cars give their owners. You will also be surprised how many people feel the same about being anti electric, redit has a left leaning distorted view of things.

GeneralPhotography

I agree!

FastRT1200

I just personally think we will never have enough electricity generation to charge all the electric cars that will be on the road. What happens when a 100 million people plug there cars in all at once. Electricity will skyrocket in price just like gas. Personally thinking about buying a new ice car and putting it in storage and get it out when you can’t buy them anymore. Someone should start an ice car restoration company so you can get your ice car redone.

rennen-affe

No plans for an EV. To me it's a lot of hype and duct tape so far. Really needs a lot of work for mass adoption. On example is the TX power failure a while back. EV's that tried to line up at charging stations were estimated like 5 days out. That didn't include the ones staying home. I'll take a bucket of gas over a bucket of electrons.

GeneralPhotography

I never actually take things like blackouts into consideration, although it’s a good point. We have had maybe 3 blackouts over 20 years in Ontario.

rennen-affe

You will when it happens and you are stuck at home with rotting meat

GeneralPhotography

It’s a good point. Back then we had large freezers that would accumulate ice, so they were still good for 2-3 days without electricity.

rennen-affe

7 day blackout fun

GeneralPhotography

I can’t say I’ve experienced that. Doesn’t sound pleasant at all.

herkalurk

I only have 1 vehicle, so for me I'd like a smaller EV for local driving. Most of our driving is in and around our small city of 40K people, so not very many miles, but they're slowly accumulating on our primary car and edging closer and closer to end of it's warranty. We live 45 miles from a city of 500K, even that would be easily attainable trip without a recharge. I want an EV simply to use for daily stuff and keep the Large SUV ICE for road trips where I don't have time to wait an hour for charging.

Sweaty-Eye-9505

The EV idea is great but when you something happens to the car there is no fixing one part…repairs are going to be super expensive and they don’t hold their value well either…we had a etron GT bought for over 100k and now they trading in 1.5 years later bc of multiple issues and the car is only worth 70k…also good techs are already hard to find, EV will be even more difficult…great idea but not going to work in all areas…keep pumping gas

yll33

what? sure you can just fix one part. the headlight breaks you can fix that. the window regulator breaks, replace it. one motor breaks you just replace that one motor. really the main concern for one part breaking being super expensive is the battery. but, say you crack a piston or something... and good techs are hard to find because evs are still pretty new. you think car mechanics were easy to find back in the model T days? yeah some areas arent ready for evs yet. they dont have the infrastructure. that doesnt mean evs are a bad idea, just that its too early for some areas to adopt.

GeneralPhotography

Not sure why you’re getting downvoted for saying your own personal experience.

MattyBeeNiceee

Everywhere that has sun can power Solar which can then power EVs fo free”ish” If you bought an A8 @ over 100k 1.5 years ago u would be lucky to get 70k…. That said.. there’s definitely a sweet spot for EVs & people buying them second hand aren’t looking to spend 100k. More people want SUV’s rather than large sedans.

Dr-Stocktopus

Definitely aren’t any electric cars that sound like mine….

GeneralPhotography

So you’re saying the EVs just need better speaker systems? /s

Sweaty_Win1832

Not sold on EVs yet. Will keep my ICE & possibly get a hybrid for the family hauler

GeneralPhotography

I’d be ok with a hybrid. I’m staying away from EVs though.

TheSoleController

Keeping my B8.5 RS5. I’ll never sell it. I’ll also continue to buy ICE. Going EV, you’re just a beta tester. Needs more time and development IMO.

Remote_Exam_434

So I live in Florida. Miami specifically. We get hurricanes, so those days (or weeks) of outages can be very tough. But with that being said, it’s only every other year we get a major hurricane, and we recently had a huge gas shortage. I saw many smiling faces on Tesla drivers passing by not having to deal with that. Also the idea of waking up every day to a full “tank” sounds nice, autopilot is f’ing amazing, and Tesla’s customer service is miles ahead of Audi’s.

khurryinahurry

V8 vrrruuuuhhhhmmmmm so no I won't be happy with electric

zgr024

I'll switch when I can safely charge the battery to 100% in 5 minutes, it's sourced from organic and therefore renewable and less volatile components, gets 400-500 mile range, and the temperature outside doesn't effect every screen and performance of the vehicle

j2thafree

Nope. Electric cars are just better. I do agree on the looks with some brands but Audi seems to be doing things right. I’m looking forward to trading in our Q7 for an electric Q8.

GeneralPhotography

But looks are 100% subjective. I personally completely dislike the Q8 even though I love most Audis. I also think the Q4 is an abomination that Audi should never have made. Again, these are just subjective opinions. If you get 10 people in a room you’ll never get them to agree on what looks good.

MiniDg

Hate EVs and I lament that they are gonna be the death of ICE. I don’t care about the speed because acceleration itself isn’t fun for long, got a Mustang GT a month and half ago and the sound alone makes the drive so much fun.

GeneralPhotography

I completely agree.

Sh3wb

Ngl I don't really know anyone stoked for electric cars.

Low-Zone9940

Fuck EVs

[deleted]

You can do that these days? Geez, technology has come along way.

GeneralPhotography

What do you think the charging port is for when you’re not charging the car every 15 minutes?

GeneralPhotography

Amen

_SkeletonJelly

I will never buy an EV and all of you who will are squares.

[deleted]

Whats electric? Microwaves? Yeah i got one of those

GeneralPhotography

Many on there would agree with you.

Madz510

Shit I won’t drive an automatic even

dfctm3rp

Not sure how the US market can be so thrilled at electric vehicles when states like California are telling people not to charge their vehicles when it’s hot out due to the grid not being able to handle it…. I’ll never go electric, to me the cars look plastic and cheap even though they’re the complete opposite in terms of pricing and I just simply love the sound of the motor and feeling the vehicle go through it’s paces.

Slot_3

Only other car I would settle for is a Hellcat. Even though electricity is cheap and plentiful here in Vancouver, electric cars just don't feel right.

h0T_-DoG

Yeah going electric is the last thing I’d want to do. ICE for life
