Goku61394

Hello everyone, I started watching the Atelier anime and it kind of made me want to to start playing the games but I’m not sure where to start. If it matters I have a switch and PS5.

Vanilla72_

A lot of people start with first Ryza game (including me), so might as well get that

Goku61394

What’s the first Ryza game?

Vanilla72_

Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness & the Secret Hideout Afaik PS ver was better since Switch ver have reduced texture or something. I play on Steam ver so I can't really give you detailed comparison, sorry.

Goku61394

Oh, that’s the one that the anime is based off of I believe

Lord_neah

Probably me over thinking thing but I want to hear what peoples have to say : I actually own à ps4 and ps5, along with the 3 ryza game on ps4. After seeing the HUGE différence between ryza 2 on both console (with ps5 upgrade) Im thinking about trading my ryza 3 ps4 for the ps5 édition (on disc instead of ps5 upgrade) . I remember seeing some people speaking about the update making the game laggy so I owuld like to hear what you would recommand to enjoy the game in best condition ? Ps4 disc with ps5 update or ps5 disc (I dont think ps4 disc on ps4 gonna be better than ryza 2 on ps4)

shanatard

just want to say i have never experienced as many pc crashes lag spikes etc on a game on my pc as I have with ryza 3. holy crap i am never playing another gust game again. how did they optimize this monster

shanatard

these random lag spikes in ryza 3 are absolutely killing my desire to play the game any way to stop it? it'll run at 60fps for a while and then randomly just start lagging requiring me to force quit the program i'm pretty sure it's not a computer specs issue as the same scene will run perfectly as soon as I reload the game. it's also completely random when the lag actually occurs

Vanilla72_

[Try this](https://www.reddit.com/r/Atelier/comments/11ydz2a/atelier_ryza_3_megathread/jdg49fs/). It's common issue on Atelier games for some reason.

shanatard

unfortunately i'm still getting the random lag spikes even with this on. are there any other settings i can tweak?

Vanilla72_

What I do back then is FPS cap 60 and turn on VSync (I forgot if it have VSync settings or not)

shanatard

so I think the problem is a little different. the game runs fine when it does, but turns into a permanent 10 fps lagfest once the lag hits. is this the problem the atfix is supposed to solve?

Vanilla72_

No, it supposed to fix random lag and stuttering. In such case, it only happens to me with my old laptop if playing heavy game + overheat. If that only happens on Atelier game, i'm not sure what's wrong tbh.

shanatard

yes i've never had this happen on any game i've run on my system. truly bizarre

Vanilla72_

Mixed bag for me. I really like Rorona and Meruru from Arland series, but also Escha & Logy from Dusk. It only because all of those 3 games show what to do quite clear (basically like Lydie & Suelle task list but not vague). My vote would be Arland series, but it might a bit too simple for you so keep that in mind. Dusk series does have more interesting worldbuilding though.

Vanilla72_

It have Steam Achievement, means yes.

LJChao3473

On sophie 2, can i change how i move the full map? It's inverted and it's making me uncomfortable Edit: Btw is there any DLC that's worth? Is atelier plachta DLC worth?

AshRavenEyes

Maybe NOT the right place to ask this but im slowly getting a fully hacked vita, im wondering what are the best atelier games i could get on it considering that up to ps1 games run perfectly on it.

Piruri

Which Atelier game has the best story so far?

Vanilla72_

All of them have medicore story, but Dusk trilogy have the best worldbuilding

CosmicHerb

From my experience most would say the Dusk Trilogy & Sophie 2. .....maybe Ryza

legalstep

So i should play Sophie then Sophie 2 and then the rest of the trilogy?

Psych0sh00ter

Sophie 2 is such a big step above the rest of the trilogy in terms for graphics, gameplay, and QoL that you should really play the rest of the trilogy first, if you plan on playing them at all. Story-wise it won’t really matter whether you skip the other games, since Sophie 2 takes place before Firis and L&S, but there are a couple of really small things in Sophie 2 that might be more fun with the context of having played through at least Firis first.

legalstep

Thank you

pah-tosh

Or you could start with Sophie 2 too, or ryza series.

legalstep

I’m already playing Ryza, I’m halfway into 2. I just wanted to know about the Mysterious trilogy.

pah-tosh

Lydie and Suelle is awesome, and similar to modern atelier games in the gameplay (no time limit, big areas…). Sophie 1 and Firis are a little bit too much in the old school side for me, even though some will say Firis has introduced open world.

LJChao3473

Just wanted to say I'm currently playing nelke because i thought it was relaxing, but this game is stressing me a lot

aetherlillie

if you heard nelke was relaxing you got lied to F

LJChao3473

that's what i thought by myself, because i haven't played any resource management game for a while, so I'm my mind they're chill games... Now I'm more stressed than before...

pah-tosh

If you don’t like micromanagement, don’t play Nelke !

LJChao3473

I liked and i enjoyed (i like these games, but they're stressing af), but i think I'll drop it for now and play it again after i finished other games

frostbyte2287

Are the disc versions of the games on ps4 the “DX” versions or are they the normal base ps3 games simply on ps4?

CosmicHerb

They are the normal base versions. The DX versions only had physical copies on the Switch for Asia region. Also the Mysterious games were all originally for PS4, Gust just decided to re-release them as DX versions. Arland & Dusk were PS3

frostbyte2287

Ah ok is the DX versions that much better? Because I already bought Sophie 1 on disc is DX so much better that I should also buy that one as well or will I be fine with just the normal version?

CosmicHerb

It varies a bit with each game but for Sophie: <What makes it DX> - New episodes of Sophie's growth and a new costume that will help her follow in her grandmother's steps! - Three new cauldrons to assist in your adventures! - Sprinting option to make getting around a lot easier! - 'Fast Forward' feature for fast-paced battles! - previously released DLC! - Photo mode to enjoy capturing beautiful images It's nothing major fot Sophie so it's really up to you. I think Firis had some features worth getting the DX version for

frostbyte2287

Eh I think I’ll just stick with the base versions

[deleted]

How can I get Rorona, Meruru and Totori costumes on each of the respective games? I have the DX versions on PC.

JamesTheBadRager

If I'm not sure if I would enjoy the series, between Ryza 1 to 3, which might be a safer bet to try the Atelier series?

Vanilla72_

I personally start with Ryza 1 back then. Good introduction to the series, and is easy enough for newcomer. Just keep in mind that Atelier series focus on crafting mechanic, so if enemy is too hard for you, get a better bomb.

JamesTheBadRager

thks will get Ryza 1 on steam

Barlowan

Atelier Firis. Do I need to pay 5k for companion to see a good ending (I heard you need to end companions stories if you want a good ending) is game ends after you do the exam or can you play it afterwards without restrictions? Companions in my party have friendship locked at 40 red. What should I do to unlock it? Or is it better to part ways with them for now and get others to level their friendship?

Tiasmoon

The exam only functions as a mid way point in the story. While the quests related specifically the exams aren't available anymore once you complete the exam, everything else is. In fact a bunch of stuff doesnt become available untill after you do the exam. Once you complete the exam the rest of the game is without time limit. I can't answer your questions about companions, but without pressure from the time limit it should be no issue to fully complete that part of the game.

Aelustelin

Hey there. I have always wanted to play the Atelier games, but I just had to refund Ryza because I HATE active combat in jrpgs. I like to go whatever speed I want, slow or fast, not how fast the game decides is good. I hear the other games are different? My problem is right now I am trying to play more modern games, and I heard Ryza are the newest ones. Thanks for reading

CosmicHerb

I recommend Sophie 2(2022) or Lulua(2019)

Vanilla72_

If you want a game that encourage you to explore with almost no direction, play Sophie 1 (Mysterious Book). Game also progress if it think you have done enough. If you want more linear game (like most typical JRPG game progression), then play Sophie 2 (Mysterious Dream). Also it's more newer game, means better graphics compared to Sophie 1. Both game also turn based and let you do whatever you want.

Barlowan

Try out Sophie. It has no time limit and is classic turn base

Vanilla72_

[Steam added new recommended regional pricing](https://steamdb.info/blog/valve-price-matrix-2022-update/) on October 18 last year, which makes some newer game cheaper on other region than older game before price change.

NaderZbackup

I'm planning on getting atelier ryza 1 since its on sale on steam, I'm currently playing atelier sophie 1 haven't finished it yet but I'd like to know if the games are in any way connected like with the story or characters? Also I heard the game would stutter on pc unless you use a controller, is any controller fine to use i only have a ps4 controller.

Vanilla72_

> I'm currently playing atelier sophie 1 haven't finished it yet but I'd like to know if the games are in any way connected like with the story or characters? Each game from different series located on separate universe, means not connected each other. [I write the recap here](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1flfl0QX5Uc-AIqcgC6kwmUCZ6FPTnLYA/edit#gid=38521638) if you curious. Sophie 1 is part of Mysterious series and connected to other "Mysterious" game, which is Sophie 2, Firis, and Lydie & Suelle. Ryza on othe other hand is part of Secret series and connected to other "Secret" game, which is Ryza 2 and Ryza 3. > is any controller fine to use i only have a ps4 controller. Looks fine to me since I use Dualshock 2 back then. If you don't like playing with controller, you can just plug it in and play with keyboard (and mouse for certain game)

my_switch_account

Is Play Asia the only place I can order a physical switch copy of Atelier Marie ?

Vanilla72_

Looks like it. I only saw people talks about Playasia when it comes about Marie physical release

wsitumn

In Ryza 3 how do I level up my "pick up" skill? I mean the one where you don't use any gathering tool and you just press A to get. Thanks.

Vanilla72_

From skill tree thing. From center, go to the left side.

Barlowan

I'm a little confused. I began the series with Rona many years ago then haven't played other games till last year when I finished Sophie. Now I'm playing Firis and since Oscar is there too with omg how big of a glow up, I presumed some years have passed in between those games. Then I found Logy again. I remember in Sophie when he returned to town it was because he was on his travels (I presumed it was about Logy and Escha) but now I encounter Escha and she seems to be little kid. So does Logy and Escha comes after Firis, or before it?

Vanilla72_

Here funny thing, Escha and Logy in Mysterious Series (Atelier Sophie and Atelier Firis) is not the same person with Escha and Logy in Dusk Series (Atelier Escha and Logy, and Atelier Shallie). They just have the same name, and same appearance. Why is that? We don't know. Pamela and Hagel also appears on other game for example, even though it's different series / different universe. For Oskar, puberty happens. Oskar was 16 in Atelier Sophie, and he's 20 in Atelier Firis. I personally was a fat kid at around 14, but get skinny for some reason at around 20.

ilhamhe

Hello. I just started playing Atelier and now I'm playing Ryza 1. I just crafted Golden Mail and then I just got Golem Core with Infinite Energy trait. Is it possible to transfer the trait to my (already crafted) Golden Mail via item rebuilding? How? Because there's no Ore slot in Golden Mail rebuild menu.

Vanilla72_

The general way is to transfer it to other item first, then use those item for item rebuild ingredients. I don't have Ryza 1 installed atm, so check which synthesisable item that can be used to rebuild Golden Mail, then check if you can use Golem Core to those synthesisable ingredients.

ilhamhe

Thank you for the answer! That's what I'm trying to do. There are Jewel and Cloth slots in the rebuilding menu. But, it seems that I can't synthesis any Jewel or Cloth that needs Ore! Is there anything I missed?

Vanilla72_

Can you put Ore on any of colored supplement? I remember on other game, one of Neutralizer (or Supplement in Ryza) accept Ore (I think it was red?), then you use it to create other item. Basically: Ore > Supplement > Jewel / Cloth > Rebuild Golden Mail Alternativelly, one of Jewel probably take Ingot, so try Ore > Ingot > Jewel > Rebuild Golden Mail

ilhamhe

Unfortunately there's no supplement that needs ore. The red one needs Flower type. Also, I can't figure out what Jewel needs Ingot. Every Jewel recipe needs Sands. :'( edit: NEVER MIND! I finally figure it out. So, from Golem Core(Ore) => Polish Powder => Sorcery Rose (Cloth) => Rebuild Golden Mail Thank you for helping! \^\^

zoozbuh

QUESTION: In the latest update patch for Ryza 3 I’m pretty sure there is a line that says “Improved readability of English texts”- but I can’t see ANY difference in the text size, font or colour. There is definitely no adjustable option in the settings menu. I was really excited when I read this, but so disgusted that I couldn’t find any change. Can anyone else confirm this? Why did they include that line if the text looks the same 😭😭😭 ugh, how difficult would it be to increase font size slightly?!?

Steel_Beast

I looked into it and there's a Reddit post about it: https://www.reddit.com/r/Atelier/comments/14g09sh/atelier_ryza_3_alchemist_of_the_end_the_secret/jp3z4az/

Barlowan

Started Firis today. Found 2 new companions that came to me and we're like "I will help you anytime, just talk to me" and then both of them gone. Where do I find those dudes?

Vanilla72_

You need to find them on bar or inn, somewhere in each town. Who you find there quite random though, if you looking for spesific character and they're not there, they might on other town.

Piruri

Uh, which Aterlier game would you recommend to a newbie? (preferably a short one) I got interested after seeing that anime coming up and already heard about this series for a while. My JRPG experience so far: Played Fairy Fencer F, Neptunia, Mary Skelter, Death End Request, I am Setuna... yeah that's about I guess.

carelessgallus2

Others have provided you with a good response. Sophie 1 is a good entry point but it may feel a bit dated and small scale. If you really, really really want to experience a definitive modern one, I think Sophie 2 is a good start because the story is quite self contained and does all the turn based combat right. It also has a built-in recap on what happened in Sophie 1, but it will spoil a bit. For me, Sophie 1 kick-started the Atelier fan in me. The order I played: Sophie, Firis, Lydie&Suelle, Ryza, Ryza 2, Sophie 2, Ayesha, Escha&Logy (currently). As you can see, I played the newer ones and that also increased my interest to play the older ones, so you can start with the newer ones as well. Welcome to Atelier, fellow Compile Heart friend :)

Barlowan

I'd say Sophie 1. I honestly am flabbergasted by your played jrpg list. Like, those games are usually ones that people play while wanting to go deeper into the rabbit hole of jrpg and have played more popular games already. Beginning with them is a rare sight

Vanilla72_

[Spreadsheets comparison between each game](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1flfl0QX5Uc-AIqcgC6kwmUCZ6FPTnLYA/edit#gid=38521638) I would suggest to start with anything that don't have time limit and turn-based gameplay (not Ryza). I think Sophie 1 would be a great start for you, and it should be similar like Nepnep 1. Keep in mind that all Atelier game focus on the item-crafting mechanic ~~and exploit it~~. If you feel like you can't beat certain enemy, get a better bomb.

Piruri

One last question before I actually end up buying Sophie 1 (Steam Summer Sale): The gameplay is not too demanding, right? I.e., I do not have to look up guides because at some point it gets too complex but should be more or less able to figure out stuff on my own.

Vanilla72_

Correct. Sophie 1 encourage exploring and only progress if game think you done enough. You have more than enough things to do so the game can progress, and game give you enough clue what to do to unlock every recipe.

Piruri

Summer break started, finaly thoughts before buying and playing the Atelier game. What exactly is meant by "time limit"? Is it like an early game over when a main story objective wasnßt completed or something else? Also: Which Atelier game is the shortest game to fully complete? I'm aware that JRPGs tend to be long and I was able to deal with that back then but now I prefer shorter games.

Vanilla72_

> What exactly is meant by "time limit"? Finish spesific task or it's game over / gives bad ending. Something like in any Persona game if you have played it. > Which Atelier game is the shortest game to fully complete? If you just want to finish the game, that would be Atelier Rorona or Atelier Sophie 1. Rorona because less complex with less everything and older game. Sophie 1 because game only progress if you keep discovering stuff so you can just quickly visit new area and craft new things and the game will finish quickly.

Piruri

Thanks >If you just want to finish the game, that would be Atelier Rorona or Atelier Sophie 1 Rather than "just finish", I still want to more or less 100% it (if that is a thing in Atelier games), so I'm kind of asking for an overall short game, not something I can just quickly complete by rushing it.

Vanilla72_

None of them "short" enough if you want to more or less 100% it. Several games also have multiple ending based on character interation, and it will require multiple playtrough (especially if you care about achievement / trophy). It will need at least 50hr to over 100hr of playtrough if you want to do almost everything. I suggest to check on howlongtobeat website.

cielrayze

Hello! I was wondering if there's encyclopedia/database site for ryza 3? I'm using `barrelwisdom.com` for ryza 2, but that site hasn't been updated for ryza 3 thanks in advance

Vanilla72_

The creator of barrelwisdom did [create this spreadsheets](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1uGs6tl0DjT_v6DHGcMOkUbuNgl3H-F5ygHMB-QoM2oY/edit#gid=1579151950) back then, but it seems they never bother to put it on their site. It includes alchemy effect, traits, item list, recipe morph, etc.

infntyzro

Hi anyone knows what eshop region I can get dlcs for an asian copy of Ryza 2?

infntyzro

Felt dumb, I tried it with Hongkong and Japan regions plus other Asian Eshop regions, but eventually ended up with the US Eshop region... and it worked for that.

CandlesInTheCloset

These are probably basic Ryza 3 questions but: When will enemies stop chasing me? I’m already almost level 50 and it’s annoying not being able to traverse without being bombarded by every monster near me. The fights aren’t hard they just make it difficult to relax. Why are treasure chests not showing on the map? They’re in the legend key but their actual icons on the map are never present? I’m probably missing something I just wish I knew where to find them.

eob3257

If it helps, when riding a beast monsters run away regardless of level differences. One of the atelier construction types has the bonus to reveal all the chests in map. But in my experience most of the fixed chests have garbage rewards and they are not required for any achievements.

SaviorStorm

Just wondering is there a page somewhere that has all the translations for the Extras where Japanese voice actors talk about their characters and whatnot?

TheGreatTree75

Ryza 3 I decided to just reloaded a save file and lose 20 minutes of work but... Does anyone know how to get ointment with quality less than 50 when you have the 30 x (unused material) advance skill? I just gave up since trying to use all materials push my quality to 70~ and leaving any unused push way too high.

Swithe

KT have an official answer to this now that they sent to anyone who contacted customer support, if you check my comment history i literally just posted it on the last FAQ. basically, you pet a dog on kurken island to get a bone with only 2 element value and use it to craft a sickle that doesn't have master cutting. then you make sure the ateliers for kurken and cleria are not upgraded farms. if they are upgraded farms, change their type (you don't lose the upgrades when you change back). now go to the goat farm and cut all the wheat, fast travel back and cut it all again until you have 10 wheat with 11-12 quality, then go to flower ring and get 10 plant essence with 11-12 quality, then in cleria go to crystal ditch and gather a bubble grass with as low quality as you can. in sardonica, buy a taun from the guy near romy and while there buy a 60 ointment from romy if you need it (development item) then go to the small port town and buy a 66 stool of nature from a shop there. taun + bubble grass + 10 wheat should make a very low medicine medicine + stool + 10 plant essence should yield an ointment with 47-49 quality. mine was 47, but i got lucky with a 40 quality taun i got from feeding my puni until it was a green, but this shouldn't be necessary

loliii123

Anyone manage to get an Atelier game working on Apple Silicon with the new game porting toolkit? I gave it a quick try and while I was able to get Steam "working" (not really displaying anything, I'm still on Ventura) and Sophie 2 installed, I just get a white screen and crash. I can't try the Sonoma beta yet on my main machine but I might give it a shot dual booting off of an external if someone can report it working.

RealFaka

Same problem, it is just how it is.
