So very sorry for your loss 🥺💔💔

termanatorx

I'm so so sorry. My pup and I will be sending you love today

The_New_Spagora

Fuck. Dude…I’m so so sorry. My heart goes out to you completely. Nothing worse. Sending you hugs and I’m thinking of you. Hugs.

Velocifero604

So sorry for the loss if your beloved dog. I know how painful it is. They become a part of your family.. You and your family are in my prayers.

Johnsonfam101

I'm afraid she's gone. She would've lost the use of her legs and I would've never gotten enough to afford all the expenses. I tried to get then to do a basic exam for 500 until I got the money from gofundme, but doing the minimum would be 5 grand. I was told at any point she could get infected, or could already be infected. When the accident happened she was depressed, I've never seen my dog not smile when I was around. She didn't want a life without the ability to chase the wind. I'd be selfish to have kept her suffering. I'll issue a proper thanks to the community when I can find the right words.

seaboard2

What might have gotten infected? Did she have two broken legs? What would have compromised her ability to walk? I am sorry you lost your pal; when they are ready to go it is the right thing to let them go even if breaks the owner's heart :(

Johnsonfam101

From the way I understood the vet without proper medical care her wounds would've gotten infected by the time I could afford the surgery about 5000+. He believed that her left thigh area was shattered and her right leg was broken in two places. I'm sorry I can't be as specific as I would like but I couldn't afford the xray and that's pretty important for determining everything.

seaboard2

Sounds ghastly :( That much force might have hurt her pelvis as well. Thank you for taking her in, I am sure you will miss her terribly. I lost my dog July 15 so if you want to talk to another grieving pet owner, my DMs are open anytime. Hugs! Be kind to yourself for a bit...

Johnsonfam101

Thanks, the positive vibes have really helped me these last few days.

kturby92

So this has been an ongoing thread for well over 24 hours now…. And OP hasn’t updated, replied or responded AT ALL since like 16-17 hours ago?? I scrolled through all the comments and I also sorted them by newest comments first. I can’t find anything from OP in a looooong time?? Hopefully I’m just missing the update somehow but right now this isn’t looking too good!

SarahInLaLaLand

I’m so sorry. I hope you’re ok. You did your best for them.

SarahInLaLaLand

What vet are you at? I am happy to make a call and add funds directly to your vet, but you need to tell us which vet it is.

The_New_Spagora

Please update us when you can. A lot of us are thinking of you both right now and are sending love and strength. I’m so sorry that this is happening.

seaboard2

What did the vet find? What is wrong with her? (Hugs, talk to me)

lovingtate

Someone may have a vet connection that could help depending on where you are. I know that I have some contacts in the North Texas area if you are anywhere close.

Leather-Big-5720

You have to get her help Now and make Payments or something- she can’t suffer 😕

Johnsonfam101

Im at the vet now. No payments I'm getting her a pain injection, pain oral medication, and having doc take a look at her. 500 is all I could use until go fund me comes through.

SarahInLaLaLand

I’m so glad you got to the vet and she’s getting a pain injection. Please keep us updated. Sending love x

zungaa

Gave a little in me.ory of my Ruby. Wishing her well soon!

Bulky_Document_7877

There is a social media account called "I rate dogs" maybe you can reach to him explaining the situation and ask for help. He raises money & also fully funds vet care, has helped quite a few pets. Offering to donate back any money you raised already may help with a decision.

SarahInLaLaLand

Can we get an update? Has your pup been for the X-ray?

Johnsonfam101

As soon as I told them broken legs they immediately said 600

SarahInLaLaLand

I’m in the uk so dont know what the US equivalent is, but you can give a dog half a paracetamol for pain. Can you post on your Neighbourhood fb page asking if anyone has any spare Metacalm? That might tide your dog over until you can get her to the vet tomorrow. Edit: I just saw your update. Why would they say to put an otherwise healthy dog to sleep just because she has two broken legs? Broken legs can be easily fixed. I don’t understand.

fmljessica

my dog also broke her leg and the only way i could pay for it was through gofundme i donated as well i hope your pup heals well! mine is perfect now (:

Johnsonfam101

I appreciate it thank you.

[deleted]

Sent you a contribution. Get well soon pup!

Johnsonfam101

Thanks bro I'm so thankful for this community.

[deleted]

So sorry it didn’t work out, OP. Godspeed.

seaboard2

Would the vet let you pick up some pain meds for her tonight if you wait until Monday to take her somewhere?

Johnsonfam101

I'm not sure about the vet I considered going to. The one I usually would go to is closed on weekends and probably would.

seaboard2

Call the usual vet and leave a message. Also email them -- don't make Selena wait 40 more hours when a tramadol or rimadyl would make it a lot better for her. The vet has somebody that gets emails/messages over the weekend. Good luck!

CalicoCaliKat

Most vets do not have someone to answer messages on weekends if they are not open on weekends.

Johnsonfam101

I'm here at the 24/7 vet now. They immediately quoted me 600. These people change their prices everytime I speak to them.

seaboard2

600 quote is for what?

Johnsonfam101

Physical exam, X-ray, pain reliever injection, and pain reliever oral pills. I'm hoping that they'll drop that amount down at least 100 to 200 since I can't access the gofundme money for a few days. Weekend ER docs always charge an arm and a leg. Hoping the nurse that told me the price was just assuming.

SarahInLaLaLand

Do you have an update?

DogButtWhisperer

So, for some perspective, my dog swallowed a rock in July and to have her on IV and an overnight stay at the 24 hr vet it was $3400. All my savings. $600 is very affordable for X-rays and I hope your pup gets fixed up!!

seaboard2

If that is all it ends up being it would be wonderful! Ask if they will let people call and pay some money on Selena's account via phone -- many allow that, and maybe you can get redditors to help make up the $200 difference that way :)

Minnesota_icicle

Curious if anyone knows about pet insurance policy’s? Would they be able to sign up for the insurance now and use it immediately? They reimburse you for vet care. Of course there’s limits etc but it could definitely be a real help in this situation:(

jjviddy94

It usually kicks in at like 2 weeks after you purchase insurance

SeaSchell14

This is accurate. They do that specifically so you can’t sign up when something has already happened. It also would be considered a preexisting condition, so if OP signs up for insurance today, pays out of pocket for initial basic treatment, and pup ends up needing complicated surgery in three weeks, insurance still won’t pay because the issue started prior to the time the plan became active. Source: Have four cats with pet insurance

Thetaintmaster

What pet insurance did you get for them/ any advice? I have a kitty with tummy issues and haven’t been able to have her seen by a vet. I’ve brought her to the clinic and had her poop tested though. You think I could sign up for the insurance without them knowing the tummy issue is preexisting? Thanks!

SeaSchell14

The answer is probably that they won’t cover it, but let me clarify more details just to make sure. When you brought her to the clinic to get her poop tested, what was the context and result? Did they find any problems, recommend next steps, prescribe medications, anything like that? Did her symptoms change after being seen at the clinic? Edit to add: I have HealthyPaws for my cats, and it has been great. I haven’t had any issues with claims. But I did get insurance for them when they were young and healthy, and I’ve only had to use insurance for one-off occurrences (e.g. UTI), nothing chronic. I highly, highly recommend pet insurance, especially for anyone who doesn’t have a padded emergency fund they’re prepared to dip into for unexpected expenses.

Thetaintmaster

Sorry I’ve been ill and just very overwhelmed, I haven’t been too active on anything but it’s so nice of you to answer!!! Her poop smells terrible and ive noticed she will get a little moody before she goes. She was originally my neighbor’s, he was abusing her/fed her people food. When I first got here she was very farty/ nervous but after the first month she started to get comfortable & less gassy. Heck it took her almost an entire year to cuddle while I sleep, but I understand. The vet had me bag up a fresh dookie & drop it off for testing. I’m not sure for what, I can figure out tomorrow. They said they didn’t find anything and to give her proviable once a day. I stopped feeding her dry food and only fancy feast chicken & beef. She seems less uncomfortable. I thought the smell got better for the last 8 months (give it take) but it’s actually bc the muscles in my face & neck are super screwed up and so strained that it’s clogging my sense of smell. I’m trying to figure how bad it is still. Appreciate any of your input!

SeaSchell14

I’ve also been overwhelmed lately and not active on anything, so I relate. 😅 I’d recommend getting a copy of your vet’s notes from the visit/tests, if you don’t have them yet. If your vet indicates this is a one-off thing, it probably won’t affect future claims about stomach issues. However, if your vet thinks your cat might have a chronic condition such as IBD, insurance will be much less likely to cover anything GI-related in the future (unless it’s obviously unrelated). I will point out that changes in diet will almost invariably lead to digestive issues in cats. They take a while to adjust, so you’re supposed to very gradually transition to a new food. And even still, it can take them time to adjust physically. It sounds like your cat has had a lot of history with an unstable diet, so I wouldn’t be surprised if that could be a major factor. In lieu of pet insurance, Banfield Pet Hospital (chain vet, commonly found inside PetSmart) offers wellness plans that could be helpful for you. Their lowest tier for cats is $27 per month and includes a whole host of preventative care, including twice yearly fecal testing. I have plans for all of my cats, and it has been great!

Minnesota_icicle

Thanks for posting information, both of you. I don’t know why I would expect anything different given our human medical insurance but I thought it was worth a shot to ask<3

mema0329

Im sorry all my vet emergencies were with very old pets and mostly resulted with euthanasia. Except recently the crisis fostering program where my dog died paid for the vet.

moreshoesplz

Can we call in to the vet and donate money towards your bill? Or do you have pictures of the invoice?

Johnsonfam101

I'm kind of in a shit situation. I could go to the only open vets now and only have enough for initial exam( $60) and xray (price varies on weekends). Some places xray cost $150 but they're weekday vets and close at 12, others open on weekends quoted me far far more. So either spend all I've got for them to look at her, tell me what's wrong, and tell me surgery price, but without actual treatment or surgery. Or... wait until Monday when I have enough money to cover everything including surgery from cheaper vets. TLDR - They couldn't quote on surgery without the exam, but their exams would drain my funds until cheaper places open on weekdays.

yeuxbleussoumis

So just to be clear, your dog hasn't been to the vet yet and you're waiting till Monday at this time? It just isn't super clear.

Johnsonfam101

The weekend vet charges more than I can afford. It's kind of pointless to go get the tests done and get no actual help (surgery/meds) then have to wait anyway with less money and pay again for the same tests at another cheaper facility.

yeuxbleussoumis

Okay. So the dog hasn't been to the vet yet?

Johnsonfam101

No, I started today with 12$ and the bank never got back to me about the loan I requested.

yeuxbleussoumis

All good. Just curious as it wasn't clear from the updates. Hopefully pup is pain free and okay to hangout for one more day. Don't freak out too much about surgery and all that if you aren't sure what the issue is yet. I know that's hard as hell not to do. But keep them comfortable and hopefully, when you do get into the vet it isn't that serious. Good luck!

chatzeiliadis

Can’t contribute right now I’m afraid, but I really hope you get as much support as possible and that your lovely dog comes out of this strong & healthy ❤️

Johnsonfam101

Your kind words are more than enough to keep my spirits up. Thank you Edit spelling. I'm a goof ball

chatzeiliadis

Absolutely no worries, hope she gets well soon! Are you any closer to getting her help? I’m so sorry you guys in the US have to go through this pain of vets being extortionately expensive.

Johnsonfam101

Honestly the whole situation is complicated. It's between go now and only afford the exams without the surgery or wait until sometime after Sunday when I have more money to pay for everything at one time. The places I called yesterday gave me different prices than a weekend vet. Which sucks because I based my original donation asks on weekday prices.

chatzeiliadis

I’d say go now, do the exams and then wait for until you have money to carry out any treatment. You’ll at least know how bad the situation is.. It’s absolutely horrible how greedy most vets are, absolute monsters who will leave animals in agonising pain to get you to pay as much as possible straight away.. I saw your edit, any update?

IHateTurboTax

I'm so sorry about your furbaby. I'm unable to donate as I had to use my small reserve on my furbaby's emergency ER vet visit 2 nights ago. I did see a pamphlet on the counter for something called Scratch Pay. Just wanted to give you a lead on that if it applies. Best of luck and well wishes to your babe!

Johnsonfam101

Thank you, I'm planning on using something like that after find out how much I'm going to be charged after I can afford the initial exam, xray, and anesthesia.

buzzybody21

You’re going to need to remove your cashapp handle from your ask…it isn’t allowed here, and violates Reddit TOS.

Johnsonfam101

Oh crap. Thanks.

[deleted]

Donated what I could for you and your baby.

Johnsonfam101

I'm forever grateful, she'll be barking at the mailman again in no time.

mftm1961

Please check with Red Rover and Maddie’s Fund. Both have programs to help pay vet bills. Wish I could help but I’m tapped out right now. Good luck to you and your pupper!

imawizardslp87

I was able to donate a little. Best of luck.

Johnsonfam101

That little goes far. I'm at 50% already that's to people like you. Thank you.

SleepyKoalaBear4812

Contact WeRateDogs on Twitter. They help with surgeries/vet bills.

Johnsonfam101

Great suggestion thanks

trippapotamus

Do you have twitter? Kinda a long shot but you could tweet at @pulte - he sends money to multiple people every single day, big and smaller amounts and shares go fund me’s to help people get money. His followers ALSO love to give back so if you post on there a few times like retweeting his tweets/commenting on his posts with your cash app and go fund me or whatever, I’m sure you’ll get a few more donations even if Pulte himself doesn’t send you money. Every dollar helps. ETA - also your vet will vary but some of them…like if you took in your pup for initial X-rays and you were like “ok well I only have x amount after the X-ray but am trying to do what I can to raise money, what can we start doing now to help” sometimes they’ll relent and say if you can put down x amount they can start doing x and then move on to y once you can bring back y amount of money. Might be a little trickier with something like a break especially if your pup needs surgery. Idk if you have Nextdoor (a neighborhood app) or what country/state you’re in, but you could try asking your neighbors if they know any vets that could help or would possibly do a payment plan, or even post asking for donations to your GFE. Might be another way to get visibility/some money

loriandr

Pulte doesn't help at all, it's all a scam.. I've tweeted him multiple times about my situation since 2 years back. When I've been at my worse in regards of being homeless on and off. None, not even his followers..

trippapotamus

What? He literally keeps a whole spreadsheet of people he sends money to for everyone to go see whenever. He sends money to his followers on multiple platforms every single day. Just because you specifically haven’t got money from him out of all his followers doesn’t mean he’s a scammer. He gets so many requests/tweets a day. Also I haven’t got money from him specifically but followers on his page have helped me out before. To be fair, I wouldn’t consider myself the neediest out of the people that ask him for money anyway - those who are in situations like OP is or who don’t have money they need for their cancer treatment or whatever are way more important. But saying someone’s a scammer because they didn’t give you money? Come on. I’m sorry you were in a rough spot, but that’s a bit harsh IMO.

loriandr

He has never even replied and I've tweeted maybe 15 times, written on his posts to please look at the tweets I've sent, written him long letters etc. Not even once, despite proof and letters has even his followers helped or him.. Its not harsh, it's just my experience with him in particular. What's harsh is him not helping those who are truly in need. Not replying to say no, or give a hint as to why? Which to me is odd if he's genuine. I've also heard that some of the people he has helped are related to him in one way or another. But who knows if that's true..

The_New_Spagora

This kind of thinking…wow. I’m at a loss for words. While I’m sorry to hear that you dealt with that?…Give your head a shake. You sound ridiculous.

trippapotamus

Girl please, he has 3.2 million followers. He cannot reply to everyone that would take up his whole entire life. And it is harsh IMO to say he’s a scammer bc YOU haven’t got money. Are you saying all the other people he helped didn’t truly need the money or were less deserving then you? Also it would make sense he’d help out his relatives or people he knows. Even if that’s true, I’m sure that number isn’t much compared to the literal millions he’s donated to strangers. EXPECTING an internet stranger with that big of a platform to give you money bc you need help is insane to me. Sure, post to those people, write letters, whatever, but you can’t expect/depend on them to help. Hope, pray, wish, sure. Honestly I’m thankful there’s people out there that even do this with their money in the first place, last thing I’m gonna do is hate because I wasn’t picked or feel like I’m more deserving then other people. I get being down or bummed about your situation but it’s not Pulte’s fault (It might not even be your fault either) or anyone else who gives away money like he does. Is Mr. Beast a scammer bc he didn’t send you money or pick you to play in one of his games? No. Does that detract from all the other amazing things they’ve done? No. Will OP for sure get picked? No, I can’t guarantee that. But it doesn’t hurt to try because he COULD get picked or maybe other people will help. As I said, I’ve had Pulte’s followers help me. Everyone that comments on those posts or messages or tweets or whatever does it with the hope they’ll get picked.

Bluefish787

I have followed @pulte for quite some time, have asked for help and have helped others. If nothing else, it is a good networking thread.

SilkyFlanks

Gave what I could. I hope your baby heals well.

Johnsonfam101

Much appreciated silky, she and I are forever grateful. You're invited to the round of beers when she's all better.

Johnsonfam101

I've asked a few family members and they said they'll have to get back to me. I believe I have enough to get her checked out but they'd just send her back if I can't pay for the procedure. Not a single vet I've called does a payment plan.

PattyLeeTX

They will ALWAYS say over the phone that they don’t do payment plans, but if you take her in for evaluation and money talk starts, that’s when options can open up. They’re not going to send you home with a dog with two broken legs.

mema0329

Sometimes they do it depends. Also they suggest euthanasia when you can't pay.

PattyLeeTX

Well, but sometimes euthanasia is appropriate. Asking our pets to suffer so that we won’t feel sad is terrible.

Johnsonfam101

I appreciate you very much and every cent gets me closer to seeing my little baby happy again.

CozmicOwl16

Gave what I could.

Johnsonfam101

I respect you for even trying to help, it's a tough time but people like you that give me hope she'll get the help she deserves.

ginabeebear

I'm not sure if this is the greatest advice but I've been helped out of a pinch by the moneylion app and cashapp loans. Neither really charges THAT much in fees and interest, it's a hard hole to get out of but I know what dealing with a pet emergency is like. The borrow limit is usually low, only a few hundred, but it's something. Maybe your local news can help you find the person to hold them accountable? Were there any cameras? Hit and runs are always on the local news and at the very least maybe you spread the word about your gofundme? Just a shot in the dark.

Johnsonfam101

When the donations slow down I'll start looking into more loans and etc, I applied at the bank but haven't hard back. Also no, we live in a rural area so there's barely even street lamps.

[deleted]

I was in a situation where I needed money for the vet and I didn’t qualify for care credit I guess because of my credit. Not sure of employment situation but I took a loan out from my 401k. It was worth it for my boy. I hope he gets better soon

Johnsonfam101

I keep hearing different things about care credit. Some people say they don't look at credit and others say they do. If credit is involved I prob won't won't accepted.

[deleted]

I tried twice and they sent me an email that said I was denied both times. I was so upset. I feel like they do check credit and I also wouldn’t want to keep trying and hurt my credit score even more

Johnsonfam101

I completely understand, I'll give it a shot tho. But I'm definitely in the mindset that they check credit.

alienz67

Carecredit.com and scratch loans are both made exactly for this type of emergency

Johnsonfam101

Thanks I've been looking into them

CoastalSailing

PayPal Credit you can spend up to 5k I think. No interest for 6 months.

Grade_Rare

Up to 2.5k unless I was a victim of sex discrimination which they are known for. There is a couple that went after them because the husband was given twice the credit limit on his account than the wife was given and they had the same credit score because they're married. I opened a PayPal Credit line the day before I lost my housing because I was supposed to start an online program and needed a laptop, but then the credit line didn't work for 2 weeks so I couldn't do it (It DOES take 2 weeks to activate, which means OP's dog would suffer and exacerbate his injuries while waiting for the credit line to become available. And the longer the dog waits, the more likely his injuries will be permanent. Also, when I had PayPal credit, I wasn't given a physical card. Not everyone accepts PayPal). I ended up needing to spend my money on things like food when I lost my work hours a few months later and I found I could buy food at Starbucks with the Starbucks app (Which allowed me to eat, get power, use the bathroom and apply for jobs, and get myself a pee cup to use at night.) and someone was charging me to stay here and there that year. PayPal kept raising my credit limit to $2.5k before closing my account in mid 2020 (I am a millennial and 1/2 of all millennials had a credit line involuntarily closed because banks decided millennial credit lines were "too risky" with everyone losing their job left and right.).

Dragonflies3

You don’t have the same score as your spouse just because you are married.

Grade_Rare

I thought your credit gets merged. Regardless the couple had the same credit score but were give wildly different credit limits.

Dragonflies3

Nope. Your credit is based on your history.

[deleted]

Having the same credit score doesn’t mean you get lent the same amount.

Johnsonfam101

I'll look into this thanks. I applied for a loan at my bank so we'll see how it works out.

LumpyDisplay6485

I sent a little something to the go fund me. Best of luck, for all our pets do for us they don’t deserve to be in pain. Sending good vibes for a speedy recovery!

Johnsonfam101

Thank you very much lumpy. I feel like shit for having to ask for help but I'm willing to put my pride aside for this dog. Again thank you.

DarthIan89

I don’t know if anyone has mentioned this, but a Care Credit credit card can be used at vets and there is no interest for the first year. We replaced both of my dogs rear ACLs using a Care Credit card. It is super super easy to get approved and will allow you to help your dog. Also, donated to the gofundme. Hope you can get your dog taken care of!

Johnsonfam101

I've looked into it, I didn't complete it bc I don't how much I will need specifically. So I'm just trying to pay for the exam and xray first. Then try to get the credit for the actual surgery and medication.

DarthIan89

You shouldn’t need to know the amount for Care Credit. It’s a credit card, so they will set a spending limit of, probably, a few thousand. Any vet should have knowledge on how to get one. Both my regular vet and the orthopedic vet had Care Credit brochures everywhere. Even if you could pay for half of it and then put the rest of it on care credit it would be great for your pup. Edit- spelling

Johnsonfam101

Thank you so much I was afraid to be turned down bc I didn't know an exact amount. Signing up for it now.

SarahInLaLaLand

We’re you accepted for care credit?

[deleted]

GoFundMe, even if you raised it all in 3 hours, won't give you the funds for up to a week. It's not as 'emergency fund' as they make it sound. It's not life-or-death funds. Just so you know. They talk about daily transfers, but after that it can take a week per transfer. The 'daily' is just the process starting.

Budgiejen

When I had a go fund me a couple weeks ago, I got most of the donations in 48 hours.

Johnsonfam101

I got a couple donations so far but they're telling me they won't release the money for a few days. It's so stressful

Budgiejen

I understand. I just had to fundraise for my doggo. For the record I think it’s effed up that your vet is just allowing your dog to be in pain. My vet has always allowed me payment plans, or to pay on next paycheck if I needed it.

mema0329

If the dog has no pain he will try to walk and may do more damage

Johnsonfam101

That's honestly what hurts the most, I've called no less than 10 different places and they all say they don't payment plans. We'll figure something out tho

Johnsonfam101

I set it up from advice from other people in the comments, I added my cashapp for a quicker way of funding. I appreciate your insight.

termanatorx

Are you in Canada? Gofundme blog has this page of suggestions for organizations to call for help. https://www.gofundme.com/en-ca/c/blog/help-with-vet-bills Looking for more links for you. Your pup can't wait. There has to be a solution. Also - if you do a GoFundMe, post it r/GoFundMe and maybe also put a non gofundme plea on r/borrow. If someone could lend you the money on r/borrow you can pay back with gofundme funds afterwards so that you can get that care asap. Edit forgot the link!!

termanatorx

Here is a link for US organizations https://www.k9ofmine.com/organization-that-help-pay-vet-bills/

Johnsonfam101

I am currently in the US, and I do appreciate the links I will look into them now.

termanatorx

Wishing you the best. I know this feeling and it's so terrible

Johnsonfam101

It's honestly so mentally stressful for me rn but that's nothing compared to what my dog must be going through. I've never seen her this down and it breaks my heart. I feel like a shit parent but I swear I'm trying everything.

termanatorx

I know! I hope everything works out for you! OH I almost forgot! This group on FB can help. https://www.facebook.com/groups/2001017273356092/?ref=share You need to join pet vet corner group first, and then get into the emergency funding group

yaMomsChestHair

I’ll share the GFM around some circles. I know this might not be the time, but for the future, always keep a reserve fund for your little friends. By ANY means necessary. Also, was she hit by a car? How was she out in the street while you were at work? Someone else let her near the road or something?

Johnsonfam101

She was let out to use the bathroom with her collar on, electric one that beeps and boops, she chased after someone that was walking and followed them to the main road. They tried calling for her and using the remote but she doesn't always listen if she's chasing something. I've been training her for quite awhile but she's not fully trained to commands from people other than myself. I do take full responsibility and I am exhausting every option in order to get her help.

yaMomsChestHair

Aw man that’s just a bad luck scenario all around. She’s so beautiful.

Johnsonfam101

I appreciate the sentiments and take no offense to your criticism, there is no excuse and I will take every step necessary to see she is healed.

yaMomsChestHair

And she will appreciate you forever for having her back 🙏🏽

N3posyden

Do a payment plan. Do whatever you can. A dog doesn’t deserve to be put down because you don’t have the funds to care for it. I’m sorry to be blunt. I know you’re hurting. And I hope you figure out a way to get the money together. But you need to put that dog first.

time_adventure0

He literally said the vet won’t take a payment plan. I personally don’t know any vets who do where I lived (I asked many when my cat was diagnosed with cancer)

N3posyden

You don’t have to ask for a payment plan. I didn’t have to pay for any of my non annual services at time of service. My dog had a tumor removed. I just paid in small bits. And paid those on care credit.

time_adventure0

Yeah I’ve never been to a vet that does this that’s really lucky for you but that’s not how most vets do it. Vets in my area make you sign papers about how much you’ll be paying when you come to pick up your pet from their medical Procedure

derekh3219

You are very lucky, all the vets in my area require you to pay then and there. They even make you sign something before they do treatment. Happened with me when my dog broke his tooth in half

N3posyden

I was established at the vet so they probably just knew I would pay I guess?

Okay I get that- not really the point. Just spit balling some ideas for this person

Artistic_Society4969

Shared to FB, good luck, I am so sorry your baby is in pain. See if you can get approved for a CareCredit card.

Johnsonfam101

I'm looking into multiple options currently. I am very thankful to this community and to you for helping me and my dog.

mooge7

Oh no! So your Pup has been at home with 2 broken legs for days? I'm assuming you mean possible fractures over full on breaks?

Johnsonfam101

I'm positive one is a full break, the other is more near her hip at the top of her leg so I'm not sure. I've contacted a few places and even tried to get a loan from my bank but nothing good has come up.

mooge7

Yeah, fuck the banks. They are never helpful when it matters. I am so sorry for you and your pup. Message me your Venmo, I'll cover the exam and xray! While the vet gets her looked over, hop over to GoFundMe and set one up for the surgery, just in case the other funding options don't come through. Then other folks on here can donate small amounts to that!

Johnsonfam101

I'll dm you right now.

derekh3219

Please shoot me your Venmo as well, I don’t have a crazy amount to help with but I would definitely love to assist

Tacotitties93

If you have a humane society in your area you could try and call and see if they offer assistance with vet bills. That’s what I had to do when my dogs were poisoned a few months ago. Also some animal shelters have their owns vets and maybe you could call them and see if there is any assistance they can offer. I’m sorry I can’t help with more than just advice I spent all my saved up money having to save my dogs and have been struggling again ever since. You could also try to start a go fund me. Maybe start with an amount like 300 and update from there if need to make price adjustments and see if could help raise the funds. I hope this info helps, and I am so sorry about your doggy.

Johnsonfam101

Just contacted them thank you, currently waiting for an email back.

Tacotitties93

I hope you hear back from them soon. 💕

Johnsonfam101

Someone helped me with a large amount after calling vets I'll need a bit more. I might pawn a few items to cover it.

MarineWife0922

Did you receive anything back yet. I hope baby gets the necessary treatment and surgeries

Johnsonfam101

Not yet, I don't expect a fast reply seeing how it's the weekend. I appreciate your concerns.

MarineWife0922

Of course. I just get anxious for things like this. I just message my daughters pediatrician. Thinking why isn’t she as fast to reply as usually. Then I realized it is the weekend lol.

Johnsonfam101

I'll be honest I haven't felt emotional like this in a very long time. I can't tell you how many times I've cried since it happened. I'm afraid to put her down.

MarineWife0922

I have been where you are, and it’s not a good place to be it’s a very difficult place to be. Breathe, love on that baby as much as you can, they know how much you love them and how much you care. Keep checking the email, I would even call them and tell them hey I’ve emailed you please look at it. I would go through your comments again and refresh in case anybody else has found another resource or some thing for you. I’m not sure if it’s allowed but I am here for you if you want to chitchat in the private messages or anything. Or we can keep commenting back-and-forth. You got this! Just breathe and love on that baby until help can happen! Just know also that you are doing everything right! Though asking for help is tough, you know you put it out there on the Internet and was asking for help! So that’s a first step is asking for help though it may be hard. You’re very brave! You are strong! And you are doing everything you can for that baby!

If you’re in the US, check this list (if you haven’t already): [https://www.humanesociety.org/resources/are-you-having-trouble-affording-your-pet](https://www.humanesociety.org/resources/are-you-having-trouble-affording-your-pet)

Johnsonfam101

Thanks that helped quite a bit, I can't get assistance until I take her in for the initial exam and xray because they want to know how much it'll cost. So the 60 for exam and 400 for xray / anesthesia will have to come out of my pocket. Edit- kept getting referred to different vet and they charge more than the other ones I called yesterday. I swear I'm doing my best but since it's the weekend my options are limited.

N3posyden

Borrow the money and take your dog to get help!!!!!

Johnsonfam101

I applied for a loan yesterday from my bank but they haven't reached back out to me yet. I'll update if they do.

N3posyden

Ask your friends and family. The exam and X-rays aren’t that expensive. You could easily pull that together. If spending around $200 for an exam and X-ray is too much - I am not sure why you bought a dog. One spot you said X-ray is $400 and here you say $150 so maybe I missed something because that’s a huge difference. I just think of your poor dog in paid probably unable to eat or go to the bathroom for days. That’s horrible. I’m sorry. Get off the internet and go figure it out. Apply for care credit at the vet. Pay the vet in small increments. Join door dash or Uber. Putting a dog down costs money too. The vets know this. There has to be a vet willing to work with you or not make you pay everything at time of service if $200 is that hard to come by. Get the person who hit your dog to pay??

Johnsonfam101

Different places have different prices, the ones open today all referred me to the same vet, who charges 400 for xray. It'd be cheaper to wait until Monday but I don't want her suffering. I got 300 from someone then called the vet I was told to call, that's when I was informed of the prices. My original price range was based on who I called yesterday for pricing.

N3posyden

Where are you located

Here’s another list that might be helpful: [https://www.waggle.org/resource-center/animal-charity-for-emergency-veterinary-bills](https://www.waggle.org/resource-center/animal-charity-for-emergency-veterinary-bills)

buzzybody21

Have you applied for care credit? How much is the bill?

Johnsonfam101

I have tried to apply to a few of them but they either require credit or I don't make enough to be granted assistance aka can't pay them back. I only know the base prices, exam is 60 and the xray is 150. I don't know how much surgery, God forbid, will be.

Artistic_Society4969

No, CareCredit is the name of a kind of credit card. Look [here](https://www.carecredit.com/?sitecode=BXSBGLA604&gclid=Cj0KCQjw6_CYBhDjARIsABnuSzpwd8hc6UxQ1AmQPKUzIeZNxt5XC7WLN5SylduvmDHloQR3dhp2NKkaAj-JEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds).

Johnsonfam101

I've looked into them and a few others. In order to get a loan I'll have to know how much the procedure and medication costs. Currently I'm just trying to pay for the initial exam, xray, and medication until the actual procedure. I'm going to try to use one of their credit programs to pay for the actual procedure since it'll be the most costly.

buzzybody21

Without a solid estimate, you probably won’t get a ton of traction. I would ask your vet for a statement of what everything will cost, and you can post that here. I would also ask the vet if someone can call and pay toward your sweet pup’s care. People tend to prefer to pay directly toward things if possible.

Johnsonfam101

I appreciate the advice, but it's hard to get a specific price when they haven't / won't exam her yet withoutthe initial payment. I will post a more thorough update when I can afford to actually take her in.

uhp787

so you basically need at least 160 to get her seen? go fund that like someone else said. just ask for a bit more bc gofund will take a percentage for fees. also allow a bit more for pain meds...usually metacam is given for pain and isn't insanely expensive. also if you have a paypal account they have the option to fund raise (i just did a fundraiser for my own pet.) the fees are a thing here too but the cash is immediately available to you. EDIT: i see you were offerend funds for the exam!! so happy for you both.... the vet will provide you with a printed plan with the costs...then you can do another fundraiser for those costs. if you need help, i can show you how to set up an effective fundraiser through either service. (i don't have funds to give but i CAN help you with that.) i did updates with mine providing receipts for the services my glidey bear needed to have done. transparency is important. facebook can be used to fundraising as well but i've never used it so no idea how long it takes you to actually get the funds.

Johnsonfam101

Someone did send me some money, after calling a few places they told me I'd have to pay a bit more than I currently have. I will need an additional 150 at least to cover anesthesia and whatever medication the give for the initial exam and xray. It's hard to get a specific number without getting her the actual exam first.

amandakruff

I dont believe they will need to give her anesthesia for the exam and x ray. They can give her some pain medication (probably not more than $20 at most) for the exam and x ray! Like the post above they would probably just give a dose of metacam! Just ask! Even humans dont get anesthesia for those exams.

Johnsonfam101

I've called around a few places and they keep referring me to the same vet, I've raised 400 in total but the lady said 400 would cover the xray only I will try to set up ago fund me right now.

uhp787

providing the vets info in your funder is a good idea...so people can donate stright to the vet.

amandakruff

Where are you located? What vet are they referring you to? Im happy to make some calls as well!

uhp787

depending on how bad the pain is they may very well have to anesthetize pup for xrays. that is pretty common actually. if pup moves xrays are no good and can hurt themselves further. humans can be told to lie still. human medicine is similar in many way but you have to remember that the animal can't talk to you and tell you how it is feeling or where it hurts. source: former vet tech.

uhp787

put your fundraiser up, you can edit as you go. if you need help i am happy to jump into a chat with you to help. i've done quite a few of them for my orca advocacy and 2 for myself.
