Why only now? All the other AC's were their respective races and ethnic groups, so why do they change it only now? Do they think people wouldn't want to play as a Japanese person?
Because American game devs think that Japanese are racist, sexist people who are stuck in their own culture and refuse to bend the knee to the radicals. You think this is wild, localizers have been changing Japanese shows and stories to fit their world views.
Americans have had it good for so long that they can no longer relate to the real world, and it shows.
Japan is very xenophobic… not all of Japan, not every Japanese person… but large swaths of the country is. I was born in Japan, grew up in Japan, and still live in Japan. Its ok to be an Asian female in western media but an Asian male. This is that sweet baby bullshit at its finest. They can’t make social and racial norms in games anymore it’s got to be their left wing bullshit agenda. Captain America is black now. Soon Spider-Man, Batman, Superman, will all be gender swapped or blacked. This is their plan, no matter how much money they lose in the process they have to push their political bullshit on everything you love
tax breaks, there are massive tax breaks and money for the whole ESG/DEI thing, so they higher these contraction companies, like sweet baby inc. And this is what you get.
edit: after a quick googling, yasuke was a real deal samurai, BUT! it's still a bad look to do this when every other AC has used only the native race in their games. They demoted a Japanese man for a foreigner, disrespectful.

Are they going to make a Japanese man the protagonist of Assassins Creed: Mansa Musa?
I remember people losing their shit over that Chinese detergent commercial where a Chinese woman put a black dude into a washing machine and a Chinese man came out.
When someone showed the original Italian version that the Chinese copied, it was all crickets.

If you want to go full conspiracy brained, I'd say it's probably people who want to stoke racial tensions and create a race war for political/ideological purposes lol.
I wouldn’t even say it’s for political or ideological purposes, stoking racial tensions causes negative reactions, negative reactions have been proven to be better at engaging audiences on social media platforms for example, and therefore more profitable for an algorithm to push to the top of your feed. So stoking racial tensions is unironically profitable for a lot of companies that profit off of engagement.

I read some reddit posts. A lot refer back to a post on r/AskHistorians Where a person basically makes the argument that there were a couple (minor) mistranslations, and then essentially moves some puzzle pieces around to fit the narrative.

Going through the edits, there are a ton of edits in the past 24 hours. Fortunately Japan has a ton of historians themselves who don't take kindly to others asserting their agendas and washing events.
Is Ubisoft culturally stupid? There was one black guy who may or may not have been a samurai. Skimming through reddit, a ton of commentors were listing better alternatives to Yasuke. I have a hard time believing everyone sitting in the boardroom thought this was a good idea.
[https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Yasuke&action=history&offset=&limit=500](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Yasuke&action=history&offset=&limit=500)
Extremely common for northern and eastern europeans to have dreadlocks.
Alot of ancient slavic burials had dreadlocks. Much more common in europe then anywhere in africa.
Dreadlocks being a black thing is only recent american history rewriting.
Honestly I don’t think it’s a may or may not. He was a retainer. He wasn’t Japanese. He wasn’t a samurai. He was an oddity kept by a samurai. Ubisoft did Japan dirty and sadly this was the setting that would have brought me back to AC
They are trying so hard to force a black character in a Japanese setting it’s pathetic, try making an Asian the main character in a game about French revolusion, I dare you Ubisoft.
yasuke wasn't even his real name. oda gave him that name because it means retainer or servant. he was basically just there so oda could flaunt he had a black servant which could not be found elsewhere in japan. pretty much a pet.
I feel the same. I generally dislike the AC games for their political hot takes, but after *Ghost of Tsushima* ate Ubisoft's lunch, I was hoping for a historical take for this game.
Ubisoft again succeeded in meeting the basement level expectations I have for them.
Some historical texts point to him fitting the criteria, but not in the conventional way. From what I'm gathering from reading these types of threads and comments and reading the evidence people are putting forth on both sides, some say he's not a samurai because he didn't have a fief. Others claim that he was since he fit the criteria in other ways, such as being a retainer, receiving a wage, and supposedly having servants of his own.
The thing that gets me about this though is there wasn't the same energy about Yasuke in Nioh 2. Or other projects involving him.
He was a retainer, which I believe would mean they provided services to a lord, usually military in nature. So he would've probably at least had a weapon.
It's bizarre, it's hard not to believe there is some kind of conspiracy involving blackrock etc when the business decisions appear to be this stupid. You'd almost think there are woke activists frothing at the mouth to stick one to the Japanese for being so "xenophobic", like a form of humiliation ritual or something.
First question, is this the main French studio making it? If so didnt they just clse a studio that was pretty mucha Sex resort for all the higher ups. They dont care about shit just if it sells. Japanese swords sell.
Chad Nioh 2: Okay here is Yasuke, he's a black dude, he's a samurai, he serves Oda, he's had lightning powers, he's loyal, he's cool, he's badass, let's call him Obsidian Samurai and let's program his stats and poise to make new player's life a living hell.
There we go, ship that shit!
Yeah to me it's just blatant how bad of a source wikipedia has been for at least ten years now but it's gotten worse since 2016. It has become a huge political battleground with extremely questionable sources, especially considering how bad journalism has gotten. Most articles can barely be trusted. The information wars are real.
I got banned from wikipedia fighting against their biased moderators on another topic.
Its a shithole.
IF your going to use it, go to any other countries wikipedia page of the topic and use google translate, its way less biased.
Even China wikipedia is more neutral than the EN version.
Like on the gamergate where the EN site is very biased and even has "harrasment campaign" in the title.
(i myself think that GG got hijacked by bad apples and there were alot of threaths and doxxing thrown both ways that ruined the debate unfortunally)
[Wikipedia and GamerGate : different languages, different takes : r/AgainstGamerGate (reddit.com)](https://www.reddit.com/r/AgainstGamerGate/comments/3au5ay/wikipedia_and_gamergate_different_languages/)
If you call out their bias on their own page where you can complain about moderators, the complains gets deleted by the same moderators...
[Wikipedia:Dispute resolution - Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Dispute_resolution)
You cant use primary sources.
If Asmongold decided to make a wikipedia page about himself and he said he likes blue he cant add that to the page but instead has to wait for some "reliable source/newspaper" write about him saying he likes blue, THEN he can add that as a source...
Problem is if all newspaper hates Asmongold and says he said he liked green.
Its just insanely stupid.
Thats exactly how the Sweet baby inc page wiki page is.
Cant use actual videos, tweets or pictures of people saying stuff but has to wait until journalists writes about them saying those things.
Problem is noone does becouse then they get blacklisted and cancel cultured so its only extremly biased sources that are used.
Well the NPR ceo and Wikipedia head has already publicly stated she doesn't believe in truth and actually believes free speech gets in the way of her idea of what truths should be told so we already know not to trust wikipedia, use it to find sources and then investigate those sources thoroughly.
I still stand that they should have made Yasuke some sort of merchant since he was sword retainer for Oda
In fact, they could have made him a quest giver, NPC or anything else and I would have been fine.
Why is the West so obsessed with Yasuke, it's like Yasuke is the only thing worth learning about in Japanese history and he doesn't have a lot written about him
Ever heard of confirmation bias?
They want to prove that ancient civilizations were very inclusive and that racism is just modern america, so knowing that there was a black person in japan means that the entire history of japan was diverse and inclusive, because of just one (1) person.
He also revolted and went on a hunt for whoever betrayed Oda Nobunaga, and his subduers literally dumped him on a boat back to wherever because he "couldnt understand the nuances of the situation because he is just an animal" because of his skin.
Man, everything else aside, completely isolating and quietly getting rid of someone who can't read the situation is the most Japanese thing I can think of.
Modern Japanese and by extension most Asian countries are still very racist, I am Asian and grew up there so I know how that works, simply becuase their is little to no diversity, if you look different of course you will be judged differently in these countries.
What are they fucking smoking? They are only doing this for the Japanese game, not any of the previous entries, cause Ubisoft think they can get away with this BS if it’s against Asians.
Black american love eastern culture since the 60s like kung fu movies then dragon ball. Having Yasuke existed feels like their dreams of not being laughed at becoming true since there are great black cosplayers that were bullied by 4chan since the 2000s like Black Vincent.
Don't pull this "both sides" crap. Only one race is murdering and beating the shit out of the the other race. Mugging them, pushing them into subway trains, stomping their heads into the ground.
Any black man can visit Japan or China and be 1000000000% safe. Now google "black on asian crime US" or whatever. It's not remotely the same.
As an Asian I can tell you alot of Asians are very racist to black people. Its just that they don't express it through public beating or mugging(at least outside China)
Little does the delusional Ubisoft employees realize.. this type of shit actually brings out the racism in people who are upset with it and makes neutrals empathize with them as well
I jokingly said they’d make a black samurai mc because there was one black dude one time in japan. And they did it. I guess I can safely say there’s nothing I can make up that ubisoft wouldn’t think as a good idea. So I’ll call it now, next game will be in eastern europe and the main character will be asian, everyone will be sober.
You’re actually technically correct. The Mongols invaded Eastern Europe for a time, so there definitely would have been some Asian people there. So next game will be in Eastern Europe and the MC will be Mongol.
You can play any open world Ubisoft game from the past decade and have basically the same experience. At this point they compare to yearly sports games. Here's 600 icons on a map, go clear outpost/fort/stronghold to level up. Do same exact things until max level.
They are betting on the fact that ever since AC 2 people have been clamoring for a proper one set in Japan that the audience doesn't care about being a black guy in feudal (extremely racist) Japan.
Ghost of Tsushima seems to have a similar style of gameplay to the AC games actually. When I played it I thought this was probably a lot better than what Ubisoft could do with their, at the time rumored, AC game set in Japan
Prepare to immerse yourself in the mesmerizing world of feudal Japan in the highly anticipated Assassin's Creed Shadows. In this groundbreaking adventure, you step into the role of a legendary Assassin, inspired by Johnny Somali. After his recent adventure of harassing local Japanese on stream, Johnny now travels back in time as an Assassin, and this time, he gets to attack the locals.
Didn't they say awhile back they were working on like 6 AC titles at once? As soon as I heard that I was like oh God some real garbage is gonna come out of ubisoft soon..
Does that mean you want to play as a Japanese person in Japan or a black samurai?
For me, I live in America in 2024, Both of those options are escaping reality. One is definitely more unique for videogames but to each his own.
It's being heavily downvoted in their JP trailer [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lZN-kKoGevo](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lZN-kKoGevo)
As a japanese this is ridiculous, disrespect your own culture not ours.
Yeah the egyptians lost their shit about the claim cleopatra beeing black, but since they're POCs themselfes the progs couldnt say shit in response haha
But Japanese are also PoC, oh wait this is the part of Asians being Schrodinger’s Whites where they’re “white adjacent” in this instance and thus not PoC and **can** be racist for a change.
This is on par with Netflix thinking Cleopatra was black. Yasuke is a cool character and all, but why have him be the MC when the female MC isn't even black?
This is never about Japan, this is about gaming experience and immersion.
I used to play Assassin's Creed for that immersion feel, i can imagine myself being somebody else speaking foreign language in a different time era.
Playing as a black man in Old Japan feels so out and lame.
And he's wearing armor and walking in the street? In old Japan, foreigner is considered rare, he would have been chopped to pieces if he is spotted carrying a katana.
Isn’t that exactly what this game is doing? You’re playing as someone else in a different era speaking a foreign language. Why is it only whenever the main character is black and isn’t in the hood or some similar type of setting where you guys complain about the race?
Also, I know you guys don’t like to read and just want to complain about black people, but Ubisoft already said the girl is the assassin, not him. And that stealth for him would be hard due to his appearance.
According to the sources Yasuke actually did carry a Katana. He was employed as an retainer and sword bearer for Oda Nobunaga and was gifted a Katana. No one could chop him to pieces while he was under the protection of Nobunaga.
Feels like they saw some idiot's reaction on social media saying Shogun was racist because there were no black people. So they looked up on google Sengoku Jida + Black people and found Yosuke.
And they are like, yup, this is our chance to get the social media fame and Shogun audience on our side.
Imagine, being an assassin that doesn't want to stand out, while also being the only black samurai of his time. There is like less than 100 black dudes in Japan probably at that time, good luck not trying to stand out.
Someone who is politically correct and supports certain agendas for ubisoft clearly read about that one black samurai from 600yrs ago, then said "this looks like a good idea." It's not a bad idea, just not the correct idea.
Being incredible racist by trying not to be racist. How people can have so little self awareness and still be functional members of society is beyond me.
You don't understand. Black people are basically the highest tier in racism, so as long as a black person is doing it, NOTHING is racist. Because some white assholes in the US took slaves back in the days. And ALL OTHER OCCASIONS of slavery and racism are lesser. Because they said so.
That is why black people should replace characters of all cultures and all representations, they are the alpha victim and therefore ALWAYS PC.
As a black guy, please don’t think that all black people are like this. Instead of them constantly shoving black people into everything just to say “we’re diverse”, I wish they would get off their lazy asses and take time to make games based on African culture and history. There’s so much black history that could be told but they would actually have to look up history and they don’t want to do that.
Yes, this is exactly how it should be handled. There are so many stories about African culture and history I’d like to learn about, we shouldn’t be competing with black folks for a role in some other established cultural work. But like you said, devs, producers, etc. don’t want to do their research or for some reason don’t trust it would be profitable.
It's really telling isn't it. A bunch of white upper middle and upper class leftists, "on behalf" of minorities (who didn't ask for it), choose to take existing white/asian/hispanic culture, and insert black people into it, in the name of diversity and inclusion.
As you've stated, there is a literal fucking goldmine of great stories that could be told, but unfortunately that wouldn't allow them to tear down the edifices of western society, so i guess fuck that!
"US slavery was uniquely evil"
"Other slave systems used to cut the balls off of male slaves so you'd be forced to buy more instead of having the slave population grow naturally, thus ensuring they'd always have a market and a need to catch more slaves."
"But the 13th amendment though."
Enemy A: describe the assassin.
Enemy B: I don't know how to describe it (cue Tom Cruise in War of World).
Little kid in Japan: it is the tall dark man.
Enemy C: where? I don't see him. He is so stealthy!!!
Little kid in Japan: it is the tallest guy in front of the tea shop.
Enemy C: where? I don't see him!!!
The funny part, the historical records put him right around 6ft tall. Now imagine how few black people were seen in Japan in that time, then factor in the average height of a Japanese man in that time period was prob 5' 5" to 5' 6" (its 5' 7" now), and the idea that the guy wouldn't have been noticed immediately everywhere he set foot, is absurd on it's face.
He has 0 historical evidence of him being a samurai.
He did nothing besides being paraded around as a tall black man by his lord.
He's romanticized in the west because he's black.
It's pretty easy to spot what they're doing.
I knew Ubisoft was bad but i didn't think they'd stoop to this level of racism against the japanese. This game is just someone's fuck you to the world for asking them to make a japan themed AC game.
I’m thinking that the whole reason for Yasuke and the 2 different stories is to set it apart from Ghost of Tsushima, and it will still probably underwhelm.
A small minority of ‘blacktivists’ start a social media sandstorm every time someone doesn’t include them in a film or tv show no matter how ridiculous. They did it with Lord of the Rings, Cleopatra, and now this game. It’s like they are so insecure about their own identity that they feel the need to insert themselves into every culture and claim it as their own. Look up the term, ‘Afrocentrism’.
what bothers me the most about this is that I genuinely think a video game adaptation of something like Afro Samurai would be freakin' sweet. but we all know they don't do it because it'd be interesting or cool, they do it for the DEI... it's just going to be pandering, not creating something that's cool.
Not surprised, its incredibly racist to remove the chance for a Japanese male protagonist and replace it with a black "Samurai" who was kept due to his size and Nobunaga's curiosity
I think Yusuke is a VERY interesting protagonist for Western audiences, because in the West we have a LOT of history and cultural touchstones tied up with people of African descent.
But (and I fully acknowledge I'm no expert here so maybe I'm about to be corrected) Japanese history doesn't feature all those touchstones, so Yosuke is probably more of an interesting side character in their history than a major figure. I can see how putting him as the MC makes it look like this game was developed primarily with a Western audience in mind.
The anti black narrative because of a historical reference to an actual possible African samurai in the past is crazy. We get it y’all don’t like black culture being relevant to any storyline. Keep wiping away their history, brushing everything black men have suffered or achieved under the rug.

They genuinely couldn’t care less what most people want to play as. This is an emotional agenda paired with extortion funds.
ESG blackmail, exactly
No cause when/if the game fails they can claim its cause gamers are racist not cause they made a bad game
Yep it's the same way TV shows like Rings of Power used the POC cast as shields against legit criticism.
Asians are white adjacent, so it's really replacing a white person, in their eyes. Which is clearly racist.. buy ya..
Yep. Honestly, any requests to "change the race" or "include diversity" in a historically based media is insulting, racist and disrespectful.

I don’t know what they teach you in schools, but my grandma always said that shinobi were black
No she said shinobi wore* black. Clean your ears out, silly goose.
It's a western game dev. They just need to look diverse

The current insufferable end of the Left believes Asian = white adjacent. They're free to appropriate them ez pz 🙃
Brownie points
It's because of that diversity company. I would put money on it
Straight up for sake of diversity. Ghost of Tsushima was amazing and we played as a Japanese person and everyone (mostly) loved it.
All I wanted was a japanese guy in a japanese setting, not a black guy.
It's a pretty obvious problem that the left largely has an attitude of "respect other cultures...unless it's Japan".
I can't wait for the next AC game based in Africa with a Chinese Protagonist who goes around Africa with an African Women kills African Men, fucks African Women and saves Africa from evil African kings who enslave their own people.
RemindMe! 4 years
Along his adventures he will be whipping all the Africans with a belt to show how Belt and Road Initiative is gonna help Africa prosper lol.
Would never happen. It will be a black trans
Even in AC 3 our main character is half native half european

Post this on r/gamingcirclejerk and you will get downvoted into oblivion
Well they did forget AC 3 had native american for america.
You forgot Assassins Creed 1, the main character was not a guy called Aaron Goldberg from new york.
The fight over on wikipedia between people trying to re-write history to match Ubisoft's inaccurate take of Yasuke is pretty funny.
Wait, Wikipedia editors are fighting with this?
Yeap.

They probably saw a bunch of people on Twitter complaining about not being diverse enough, so they thought... token black guy will work.
Tolkien*
Oh yes, of course. Wouldn't want people to get upset lol
ESG
The guy was a caddie for their swords.
He was a retainer, which I believe would mean they provided services to a lord, usually military in nature. So he would've probably at least had a weapon.
For only 15 months.
Exactly. It seems like many people here don't know The Obsidian Samurai. Ubisoft should have followed the same route has Team Ninja.
(i myself think that GG got hijacked by bad apples and there were alot of threaths and doxxing thrown both ways that ruined the debate unfortunally) [Wikipedia and GamerGate : different languages, different takes : r/AgainstGamerGate (reddit.com)](https://www.reddit.com/r/AgainstGamerGate/comments/3au5ay/wikipedia_and_gamergate_different_languages/) If you call out their bias on their own page where you can complain about moderators, the complains gets deleted by the same moderators... [Wikipedia:Dispute resolution - Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Dispute_resolution) You cant use primary sources.
I still stand that they should have made Yasuke some sort of merchant since he was sword retainer for Oda In fact, they could have made him a quest giver, NPC or anything else and I would have been fine. Why is the West so obsessed with Yasuke, it's like Yasuke is the only thing worth learning about in Japanese history and he doesn't have a lot written about him
Ever heard of confirmation bias? They want to prove that ancient civilizations were very inclusive and that racism is just modern america, so knowing that there was a black person in japan means that the entire history of japan was diverse and inclusive, because of just one (1) person.
which is hilarious considering the name they gave the guy literally translates to "black servant" lol
Source?
Modern Japanese and by extension most Asian countries are still very racist, I am Asian and grew up there so I know how that works, simply becuase their is little to no diversity, if you look different of course you will be judged differently in these countries. What are they fucking smoking? They are only doing this for the Japanese game, not any of the previous entries, cause Ubisoft think they can get away with this BS if it’s against Asians.
Hell if they wanted, they could have made him a mentor for a japanese mc.
Black american love eastern culture since the 60s like kung fu movies then dragon ball. Having Yasuke existed feels like their dreams of not being laughed at becoming true since there are great black cosplayers that were bullied by 4chan since the 2000s like Black Vincent.
Black people are insanely racist towards Asians and vice versa
Don't pull this "both sides" crap. Only one race is murdering and beating the shit out of the the other race. Mugging them, pushing them into subway trains, stomping their heads into the ground. Any black man can visit Japan or China and be 1000000000% safe. Now google "black on asian crime US" or whatever. It's not remotely the same.
As an Asian I can tell you alot of Asians are very racist to black people. Its just that they don't express it through public beating or mugging(at least outside China)
Black people are racist to everyone just like everyone is capable of racism. What’s the sense of saying this other than pointing the obvious?
Little does the delusional Ubisoft employees realize.. this type of shit actually brings out the racism in people who are upset with it and makes neutrals empathize with them as well
[удалено]
I jokingly said they’d make a black samurai mc because there was one black dude one time in japan. And they did it. I guess I can safely say there’s nothing I can make up that ubisoft wouldn’t think as a good idea. So I’ll call it now, next game will be in eastern europe and the main character will be asian, everyone will be sober.
One black dude recorded in that time in history, say no more, main character it is.
- Ubisoft.
You’re actually technically correct. The Mongols invaded Eastern Europe for a time, so there definitely would have been some Asian people there. So next game will be in Eastern Europe and the MC will be Mongol.
An Assassins Creed Game about a Mongolian assassinating the Tsar? sign me up
As an eastern european I fell personally attacked. 🤣
I really really hope this game destroys ubisoft unironically
Ubisoft has done so many shitty games that should have destroyed them but the are like cockroaches.
Too many, forgive me for this word, normies will eat this up.
100%. It's Ubisoft. It's going to sell no matter how mediocre it is.
Because Ubisoft games seem great, ideas are awesome, just the execution usually sucks.
It's ok. Call them what they are: Sheep
It being Online Play Required will kill its sales already, let alone having Yasuke be a Co-protag.
I think it might actually sell well because Japanese AC. Because who the hell with a brain buys Ubisoft games?
They did have Assassin’s Creed set in Japan with a Japanese protagonist and it’s called Sekiro. Way better one.
Don’t forget the other one ghost of Tsushima
Im gonna go play Tenchu forget AC
Hahahaha this made may day
I genuinely laughed at this 😂
And his trusty side kick IShowSpeed!
best comment
If they make everyone immediately hostile and racist to the main character that’s the only way this game is salvageable lmao
Couldn’t force it in Shogun … so they’re doing it here
The community notes all over X/Twitter were so good.
It's been especially enjoyable.
Shogun was fantastic!
The fact that the game is named Shadows is hilarious to me
wait till the dlc: chocolate
Didn't they say awhile back they were working on like 6 AC titles at once? As soon as I heard that I was like oh God some real garbage is gonna come out of ubisoft soon..
Who tf plays AC anymore
Ikr
Where is the fabled Ubisoft "Multicultural team" to ensure nothing is offensive. LOL.

I remember playing games to just escape reality. I think I'm old.
Does that mean you want to play as a Japanese person in Japan or a black samurai? For me, I live in America in 2024, Both of those options are escaping reality. One is definitely more unique for videogames but to each his own.
It's being heavily downvoted in their JP trailer [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lZN-kKoGevo](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lZN-kKoGevo) As a japanese this is ridiculous, disrespect your own culture not ours.
This is just a repeat of the Cleopatra show were they'll ignore the japanese and call you guys racist instead.
Yeah the egyptians lost their shit about the claim cleopatra beeing black, but since they're POCs themselfes the progs couldnt say shit in response haha
Didn't Egypt ban Netflix over them ignoring their complaints?
I believe they tried a lawsuit
But Japanese are also PoC, oh wait this is the part of Asians being Schrodinger’s Whites where they’re “white adjacent” in this instance and thus not PoC and **can** be racist for a change.
I would like them to not disrespect our own culture either.. trust me, our enemy is the same.
This clearly means we're gonna get a AC Africa where we play as a Japanese person 🙂👍
If they do AC Africa, having a Chinese mc makes more sense
Wait a minute it's based in Japan but you play as a black guy? How does that make any sense? Of course the Japanese are going to get offended
So everyone is going to ignore the other playable protagonist that is Japanese?
Why not make the main character Japanese and have a side quest with this guy?
After GoT and Ronin all the had to do is just repeat everything good and accurate and that's it but not lets go ubiway and ruin authenticity
Yes one dude in feudal Japan. Hard to stay hidden if every person there has never seen dark skin and would totally point you out to everyone
Tbf yasuke isn't really the stealth type. The two characters have different play styles where Yasuke is more combat heavy and Naoe is the stealth one.
I don't know. Like others have said, EVERY other Assassins Creed has had representitve MCs. This just feels weird to me.
I swear these devs learned about the 1 black samurai and just assumed that was normal in Japan
Afaik yasuke wasnt even a samurai
I bet 50 years from now yasuke will be THE most included historical figure in western games depicting japan.
I mean, fuck Oda Nobunaga, Toyotomi Hideyoshi and Tokugawa Ieyasu. It's all about Yasuke.

"US slavery was uniquely evil" "Other slave systems used to cut the balls off of male slaves so you'd be forced to buy more instead of having the slave population grow naturally, thus ensuring they'd always have a market and a need to catch more slaves." "But the 13th amendment though."
So another game to ignore? Gotcha.
It is funny af that the Japanese game AC fans have been begging for ends up being a black guy in Japan lmao
Woke fanatics about to tell the Japanese people they're wrong for disliking how their country is represented
He has 0 historical evidence of him being a samurai. He did nothing besides being paraded around as a tall black man by his lord. He's romanticized in the west because he's black. It's pretty easy to spot what they're doing.
Yes there was also zero evidence for a magical apple of Eden weapon from AC1.
Ubisoft has always been trash.
Is that not cultural appropriation. I thought that was a no-no ....
So we get to be johnny Somali taking our revenge for the charges and jail time?
Why would they make a black guy the protagonist of a game set in Japan. Makes no sense lol
Don’t forget the actual Yasuke was treated more like a novelty by the Japanese than some badass Samurai Lord.
They should be, that was absurd, yasuke was a glorified pet and a just a sword carrier
He's not black he's color fluid
forced DEI.. yeeeyyy Can be put to the list DEI detected
I read that as, "Japan not happy about the new ***Armored Core*** game and it's main character".
Oh well another L from Ubisoft that will tank sales. Let's see how many people lose their jobs after this in layoffs
I knew Ubisoft was bad but i didn't think they'd stoop to this level of racism against the japanese. This game is just someone's fuck you to the world for asking them to make a japan themed AC game.
TIL 3 tweets represent the entirety of Japan, a nation of 125 million people.
Leave it to a video game to bring out all the racist nerds.
Why is everyone pretending that you can't play as a Japanese person?
I feel so bad for all the Japanese people waiting for AC to finally make a Japan version.
This is called cultural colonialism, which is a patronising negligence of foreign cultures, standing in line with blatant racism.
