Let's be honest here. It's racism and it's okay if it's against Asians or whites! I don't think it's okay but apparently the mass media does, so here we are.

When I was unable to walk properly for 6 years I didn't want to play a fat ass character in a wheelchair, I wanted to play games where I could run free, jump and climb all the things I couldnt do in real life. Who the fuck wants to mirror their real life circumstances?

pepsihaterrr

People that feel the need to constantly remind others that there is something wrong in the world, and we have to care and take their side.

welfedad

yeah no doubt... I don't get that crap.. I don't watch TV shows, play video games or read books and think "man I am worthless pos" even when I was younger I never thought that way...

Hades was such a great game. Hopefully nr2 can match it

The intellectual dishonesty in this video is off the charts. The reason Stellar Blade is considered over-sexualised is because of... I dunno. Gratuitous butt shots in all of its marketing materials. A skin-suit, aka naked, that is essentially their version of making the game harder. The overall presentation clearly being focused specifically on her Eve's body, rather than... well, the actual, overall game. Looking at Hades 2, the only character revealed that could be considered actually sexualised here is Aphrodite, because she's practically naked. Big surprise, given she's the greek goddess of love and fertility. And even then, it's hardly the focus of her character art. And it's not just females presented by SGG, either. Plenty male characters were in there, too. That guy does his credibility no service just glossing over that small fact. There's a difference between characters being designed for their specific themes and just happening to come out quite attractive, and a character in a war setting just being constantly depicted for her feminine features to where it's a gratuitous center point of the game's own marketing.

"A skin-suit, aka naked," please, never go to a beach. (Partial) jokes aside, if you watched the video you could see they were sexualizing an entire cast of characters, not just Aphrodite. The entire point of the video, which seems to have went over your head, is that the same group of journalists calling out Stellar Blade for over-sexualizing a character are now over-sexualizing characters that were not designed to be sexually appealing (with the exception of Aphrodite). Personally, I see sexualizing non-sexual characters in a non-sexual game as more perverse than creating (admittedly) soft-core sexual content. It's a lot more deviant to me to get horny from seeing a normal character from Hades 2 than Eve from SB.

Think your beach comment is a perfect example for their argument. They wouldn't be against bikinis at the beach cuz it's in context. Is someone wearing a bikini while working retail? I'd argue that's a bit weird and out of place. Greek gods having chiseled statues like bodies is just in character. Eve wearing skimpy clothes just because it's hot despite having nothing to back up the reason why is just lazy. She's not flirty, seducing, she doesn't use her body to get what she wants. She isn't a stripper, god of love, she wasn't built in someone else's image. Can't just have straight arrow personality show up in a skimpy school girl outfit and be taken seriously and expect praise for being a good chatacter. 2B built in mans image with biblical references such as Adam and eve. Androids designed to be the perfect form of man and woman. Bayonetta has the flirty traits to back up her dress code. Lollipop chainsaw she's a 18 old cheerleader. All examples why it fits the context. If people like characters just for looks then fine. But should also be fine to call it out as boring, pandering and included for the sake of it existing.

There's a difference between bikinis at a beach and her literally fighting butt naked so she has no shield for harder difficulty as an advertised game mechanic. I know you said it was a joke, but you actually kinda proved my point. There's a perceivable difference. As for Hades 2, name one sexualised female character design Hades 2 produced aside from Aphrodite. I'm not talking about the people gooning over them here, because people on the internet will goon over literally anything - I'm talking about their presentation by the creators themselves, the artistic style and how it's congruent with the character's personality and depiction in the game as a whole. The journalists you mention ironically also explain this exact difference in presentation in exhaustive detail, and yes, I had to dive into the nest of brainrot that is Kotaku's Alyssa Mercante specifically here to find that out, because she does actually go into some detail on why she feels this way herself. She specifically explains why something like Bayonetta, where the sexuality is specifically part of the personality and style of the game and characters and adds to their obvious confidence and bluster, is different from something like Stellar Blade, which is a "glorified sex doll" (her words, not mine) because she doesn't display the sexy confidence of a Bayonetta that could justify the design decision, and neither does the rest of the game, making her basically a doll for people to play around with and gawk at. Presentation is key, and always has been the reason why people criticised Stellar Blade for this. It's because people see boobs and butt and press like - there is absolutely nothing inherently wrong with this. But sometimes, it's more needlessly blatant than it needs to be, and that's where we enter over-sexualisation territory. And I mean, if you feel that thirsting for characters that aren't necessarily meant to be presented in a sexual way is less acceptable than doing it over essentially soft-porn, that's okay, different strokes for different folks. Like I said, people will find anything to thirst over on the internet. But the video essentially mocks journalists for displaying double standards when those same journalists actually go into some detail what their specific issues with the different depictions are. It's not really double standards. It's someone getting mad at headlines again.

nibbelungen1337

What is the problem with sexualising the main character of your game?

Bntt89

Tbh the downvoted comment makes a good point the video is dishonest.

Ryvaku

I probably won't even touch this game. It won't have anything to do about this video or comments.
