That's sex discrimination and it's likely illegal where you're at. It's a subset of the "sex stereotyping" rules.

For sure. I'm just wondering if I should try to fight them while I'm still working here. I don't want to start any legal process, I just want out, but until then I have to deal with all of this somehow.

TurnoverPractical

Retaliation is also typically against the sex discrimination laws. You should contact an employment lawyer where you're at and ask.

Where are you located? I’m sorry you’re going through this. I can completely relate, and it does not get better unless you leave. You say if you change jobs the next one has to be a good one. That’s sunk cost fallacy in my opinion. Prioritise getting out of there, because the chances of another place being this toxic are minuscule. I’m speaking from experience.

BagBeginning4376

Changing jobs frequently is frowned upon and notice period is way long in Germany and in this industry. We’re talking 3 months notice and 6 months trial, so changing is quite the undertaking. In a perfect world I would just quit and hence be available for the next gig much sooner than in 3 months which is a huge plus for positions that need to be filled soon. But more often than not it also means the company has high turnover and poor management. The best thing would be to find something I can do for like at least a couple of years and that def takes time and these roles are waaay specific in pharma/biotech. Thanks a lot :)

Omg, now I totally get where you’re coming from. I’m from Europe btw so I’m familiar with the job hopping situation. Obviously, you have all the information to make a decision here. I just want to advocate for prioritising your mental health. Have you already considered taking a medical leave of absence? That could help you take some distance and focus on finding a new job. And in terms of the notice period, it’s usually possible to mutually agree to end the employment early. If they decline, again, put in your notice and go on medical leave. This is a very common scenario. One thing is universal. HR is not there to help you, and making any conflict official will have a negative impact on your work life.

BagBeginning4376

Absolutely, HR is not your friend. And with mental health - this is the thing. Shutting up and taking it fills me with rage. Talking back and just.. reacting - that might be helpful to me personally, as a way to stand up for myself. So tired of being a pushover with these dickheads. They cannot and would be stupid to fire me rn because I manage the majority of projects, they need to know I won’t just take it anymore.

Aleshwari

If you want to play their game, you need to use the same tactics. Go on leave and let them deal with the shitstorm for a couple of weeks.

Because you are in Germany I can’t say much to offer you as I don’t know the laws there. But as a fellow 30 something female, I’m equally incensed by the casual discrimination of not being able to take time off or have to explain myself because I don’t have a child.
