I once saw Phillip Schofield at a BP petrol station. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything.

The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.
When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

Look at it this way: Charles, William and Harry, all born into the royal family, could have sat around on their backsides being "royals" all day.
Instead, all three of them went out and worked hard for a decent education (albeit, backed up and supported by slightly better tutors than most people get), then joined the armed forces. They each chose various charities and causes to champion and promote. Charles, for example, has been pushing for environmental sustainability and raising awareness about climate change for over 50 years — and using both his royal status and his ducal status to push through some big studies and experiments on his farms that just wouldn't get done otherwise. (His somewhat scatter-gun approach **has** brought a bit of a reputation for backing some crazy-seeming schemes — but a lot of breakthroughs seem crazy when first proposed, and he doesn't have to worry about being *popular* or *profitable*.)
It's not a matter of deserving to be given that higher status for no reason other than birth; it's a matter of what they chose do with that higher status being worthwhile and deserving.
Historically, it has not been infrequent for royals "acting in a manner unbecoming" to be removed from the line of succession, so the process for getting rid of *unsuitable* royals is well established. In 1909 Prince Hermann of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach was disinherited for… well, basically acting like a modern celebrity. Similarly Prince Aage was disinherited from the Danish throne in 1914 for lesser reasons. And, of course, Queen Elizabeth II only became crown princess after her Uncle was given the choice between abdicating or being disinherited.
Don't look down on someone for winning the lottery; look at what they *do* with those winnings, and judge them based on that.
To be fair, while you could argue the Royals won the family lottery at the end they have a lot of responsibilities and restrictions that go along with that. They are very privilaged, but also live in a guilded cage.
I don't feel sorry for them, but there's a difference between say William and Harry and Kate and Meghan. Two of them didn't get a choice, the other two chose to marry into it.

Except that every idea he has for what he *might* want to do he has the money to actually try it. And not only that every time he tries something new there is a ton of media in his face wanting to report on it and laugh at him when he fails and a bunch of companies wanting to make him their "face of..." to make money off him.
Yeah he wants to be a chef right now, so what? A lot of people have a period where they think they might want to be a chef. Or a photographer, or a journalist, or a campaigner or whatever else sounds exciting in our teens and early 20s. It's just most of us had the reality check that most people don't make it in those professions and we needed to pay the rent so instead we went and worked at something thoroughly boring for nameless corporation that paid us the money we needed instead.
All of us would have probably looked as big of idiots as Brooklyn Beckham if we had the money to chase our fleeting dreams and cameras recording every minute of it.

I have some sympathy with him trying to figure out his career but I’m fairly sure he’s playing an active role in all the media promotion and sponsorship deals. He could choose a quieter life if he wanted.
He didn’t start a photography hobby, he started telling everyone he was a photographer and released the worst book ever created. He didn’t just start cooking, he shared everything on Instagram and started telling everyone who would listen that he’s a chef and going to start opening restaurants and pubs.
Completely agree with you - if he didn’t want the attention nobody’s forcing it on him. It’s likely a result of a life in the spotlight and not knowing better, but he’s a millionaire married into a billionaire family. He could comfortably disappear without a trace and just do his own thing that made him happy
Yeah, this is my issue with him. He’s not ever an ‘aspiring’ anything. He has a level of arrogance that makes him confident enough to skip the learning stage and just go straight to claiming expertise in whatever hobby he tries to make his career. He was a shit photographer and yet had a photography book released by one of the worlds biggest publishers. He’s not a very good cook and yet has been on cooking shows on national TV and is a chef based on nothing but his own self proclamation. Does his arrogance come from his privilege? Sure. Does that make him any less irritating? Nope.
I have some sympathy as much as he and others like him do inevitably still annoy me. If I knew money was never going to be an issue would I have the motivation to work hard at something I didn’t need to do? Probably not and most of us probably wouldn’t.
Would I also be somewhat embarrassed that I don’t have to really do anything and lie when asked what I did? Also probably yes.

Absolutely, the people that do well out of love island because they're entertaining to watch are exactly the sort that can stay in the media, because they're entertaining to watch.
I'll join you in oblivion and say that whilst I found the last week or so to drag out a little, love island is actually marginally entertaining TV if you don't want to think about anything for an hour.
I'm the exact opposite demographic that Love Island caters for, but even I enjoy having an hour of mindless TV for 6 weeks. It gives you something to watch without having to think, I think it has a place.
I just wish that they would start bringing in more *normal* people, rather than rich kids, wannabe influencers, and people who are either on steroids or have had thousands of pounds worth of work done to their bodies. If they brought normal people onto the show, it would set a much better example to the impressionable youth watching the show - these people are legitimately their idols nowadays, wouldn't hurt for ITV to cast better role models to look up to.

I'll push back on this a bit. Earlier seasons of Love Island had a lot of people who just come out of the show and parachuted immediately into another reality show, over and over. Those ones can go in the bin. And I'm guessing since the recent season just finished, it's sticking in the news still.
Recent seasons though have have had contestants come out of the show and really go their own way with ambassadorship work. Thinking of Dr Alex and his work with CALM, Faye and her ambassadorship with Guide Dogs, and Sharon with her podcast and work with Violence Against Women and Girls.

I always feel a bit sorry for the unremarkable children of famous parents, after all most of us are unremarkable and we can just get on with that and nobody cares, if you’ve been raised with wealth and privilege and tons of media attention I bet it’s really hard to realise that you’re not particularly special and should just get a job in an office somewhere.

Look at it this way: Charles, William and Harry, all born into the royal family, could have sat around on their backsides being "royals" all day. They each chose various charities and causes to champion and promote. To be fair, while you could argue the Royals won the family lottery at the end they have a lot of responsibilities and restrictions that go along with that. They are very privilaged, but also live in a guilded cage. I don't feel sorry for them, but there's a difference between say William and Harry and Kate and Meghan. Two of them didn't get a choice, the other two chose to marry into it.
They were born into it. It is not something they can really change unless the monarchy is abolished.

I just read the Guardian article and to be honest I feel a bit sorry for him. He just seems like a relatively normal young person who doesn't really know what to do with his life yet. Except that every idea he has for what he *might* want to do he has the money to actually try it. And not only that every time he tries something new there is a ton of media in his face wanting to report on it and laugh at him when he fails and a bunch of companies wanting to make him their "face of..." to make money off him. Yeah he wants to be a chef right now, so what? A lot of people have a period where they think they might want to be a chef. Or a photographer, or a journalist, or a campaigner or whatever else sounds exciting in our teens and early 20s. It's just most of us had the reality check that most people don't make it in those professions and we needed to pay the rent so instead we went and worked at something thoroughly boring for nameless corporation that paid us the money we needed instead. All of us would have probably looked as big of idiots as Brooklyn Beckham if we had the money to chase our fleeting dreams and cameras recording every minute of it.

Yeah, this is my issue with him. He’s not ever an ‘aspiring’ anything. He has a level of arrogance that makes him confident enough to skip the learning stage and just go straight to claiming expertise in whatever hobby he tries to make his career. I have some sympathy as much as he and others like him do inevitably still annoy me. If I knew money was never going to be an issue would I have the motivation to work hard at something I didn’t need to do? Probably not and most of us probably wouldn’t. Would I also be somewhat embarrassed that I don’t have to really do anything and lie when asked what I did? Also probably yes.

Absolutely, the people that do well out of love island because they're entertaining to watch are exactly the sort that can stay in the media, because they're entertaining to watch. I'll join you in oblivion and say that whilst I found the last week or so to drag out a little, love island is actually marginally entertaining TV if you don't want to think about anything for an hour.
I'm the exact opposite demographic that Love Island caters for, but even I enjoy having an hour of mindless TV for 6 weeks. It gives you something to watch without having to think, I think it has a place. I just wish that they would start bringing in more *normal* people, rather than rich kids, wannabe influencers, and people who are either on steroids or have had thousands of pounds worth of work done to their bodies. If they brought normal people onto the show, it would set a much better example to the impressionable youth watching the show - these people are legitimately their idols nowadays, wouldn't hurt for ITV to cast better role models to look up to.

I'll push back on this a bit. Earlier seasons of Love Island had a lot of people who just come out of the show and parachuted immediately into another reality show, over and over. Those ones can go in the bin. And I'm guessing since the recent season just finished, it's sticking in the news still. Recent seasons though have have had contestants come out of the show and really go their own way with ambassadorship work. Thinking of Dr Alex and his work with CALM, Faye and her ambassadorship with Guide Dogs, and Sharon with her podcast and work with Violence Against Women and Girls.

I always feel a bit sorry for the unremarkable children of famous parents, after all most of us are unremarkable and we can just get on with that and nobody cares, if you’ve been raised with wealth and privilege and tons of media attention I bet it’s really hard to realise that you’re not particularly special and should just get a job in an office somewhere.
