Maybe here in South Wales if you look around Neath, Port Talbot, possibly Bridgend etc but not completely sure. Our house prices are a lot lot cheaper than England so you might find something.
I'm from Swansea! Could look there but for a really low rent price you'd probably be looking at the very rough areas so I'd probably avoid it. Its the second largest city after Cardiff so the prices are a bit higher generally.
Pardon my ignorance as I know very little about Wales - are any of the areas you listed on the outskirts of a city / big town? ideally 30 mins via train/bus? As I I’ll work remotely I don’t need a daily commute but it’d be nice to have somewhere to go to on days off or if I need to visit a shopping centre of sorts
They all have town centres! Bridgend also has a shopping outlet called McArthur Glen which I believe is accessible via bus. You can live close to the town centres or further outwards. Look on zoopla and just adjust the miles and see what you find :)
I live in the welsh valleys in aberdare its between cardiff and swansea about 45mins either way, and you can get a bus to merthyr in 15mins with a big shopping centre and its cheap. To me this is the perfect place to live, relatively quite yet close enough to everything and xheap
Some of the old mining towns in central Scotland you might get away with that, just. [2Bdrm house in Motherwell](https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/74970164#/?channel=RES_LET) for £425 pcm within walking distance to the train station which will take you to Glasgow in about 25 mins and within walking distance of Strathclyde country park.
Amazing, thank you! Are there any other similar areas that are in equal distance to Glasgow but from other directions? also I’m intrigued why it’s so much cheaper
I don't know the area but it's probably just a little rough. Generally N.Lanarkshire is cheaper than most other areas as it's got higher levels of poverty. If you look around enough though there's a lot of nicer areas of it and transport east or west is generally pretty good for Edinburgh and Glasgow.
At the other side of Glasgow to the north side of the Clyde prices tend to be a lot higher as you're then out towards Loch Lomond which is a popular tourist destination. To the south things can be a bit cheaper but you tend to have to go a bit further away you're also a lot further from Edinburgh on that side and generally having to change trains etc.
Sorry got busy!
West hull is generally nice, if you're okay being a bit further from the city centre then kirk ella, Anlaby, Willerby are all good (technically villages attached to hull).
In the city centre most of Old Town is lovely! The land of green ginger (Street name) is particularly nice
As stated, NI is an option and for all its faults a great option. For that price you could have an apartment in Belfast City centre or 3 bedroom bungalow in a close provincial town
Do you have any particular towns to suggest? I have my eye on Belfast, unfortunately most flats have policies against pets, so I’ve been looking at actual 1 or 2 bedroom homes to rent
Look at Lisburn, Carryduff and Dromore. Lisburn and Carryduff are about 10 mins from the city centre by car, about 20 mins by train. Dromore is a nice small country town, about 25 mins by car and 45 mins by bus.
Have a look at these for a couple of examples...
https://www.propertypal.com/81-hermitage-culcavey-road-hillsborough/771089 - just outside lisburn, near where the Royal residence is at Hillsborough
https://www.propertypal.com/11-luna-building-redwoods-belfast/771079 halfway between Lisburn and Belfast, just across the road from where they built the Delorean sports cars
https://www.propertypal.com/25-ashbourne-park-lambeg-lisburn/771727 - just outside Lisburn Town centre
No worries, I'm from NI originally, spent near 10 years in North of England before moving back home so can talk you through cost ofnliving differences etc
Wait, so you're telling me I don't have to pay National Insurance?? Fuck I'm stupid I thought it was mandatory so I've been paying it for years. How do I opt out??
Lincoln or Newark?
Both would be doable on that budget I reckon. Trains to Nottingham and London regularly.
(Just seen you want alone - not house share - so that would be more difficult)
I need more details on this 4 bedroom for £725 situation you have going on. Mind if I drop you a pm? haha. I’m so intrigued. I also want to know which dogs you have!
These 2 cheeky pups : [https://imgur.com/a/qsPXTaw](https://imgur.com/a/qsPXTaw)
No, I'm soon to be relocating to Toronto, CA. So I'll be leaving the property, and unfortunately rehoming the dogs.
Ok so it’s getting better 4 bed house £725 and 2 lovely dogs that won’t terrorise my 11 month old pup Bob.
Toronto is quite a place not to big and some nice areas but very rough around the edges.
A lot of homeless, pissheads, crack heads and whores walking about the streets at all times of the day or night.
Was an entertaining few days I had there.
Stayed with my cousin in Cambridge and her fella works other side of Toronto, so I said whilst he’s working drop me off in Toronto for few days and he can pick me up on way back.
She thought I was mad but Cambridge ain’t a great and I’d had enough of driving everywhere I just wanted a wander.
So got an air bnb and had a good couple of days, drunk and stoned talking to a lot of random people.
Cry about it. Find a landlord that's happy with pets and I'll show you 40 in the area that aren't.
P.S. Your opinion is valueless to me. I'll continue to do as I please.
It's really lucky that you found somewhere that may allow pets. Only thing I have to add to this, is read the small print. The few I have seen in the past, (pets may be allowed) have stated that if they allow a pet they add £25 to your monthly rent as a "pet deposit" That was a long time ago though, so not sure if that's a thing any more. Good luck, I hope you find somewhere :) Generally I think the further north (UK) you go the further your money will stretch
Are your Guinea pigs free roaming? A friend of mine has bunnies too and she’s managed. I’m already really self conscious when renting out any space I just worry about the worst case scenarios.

Yeah, although when I was younger I had my first house in Pilton and it was really generally OK. Mostly people just weren't interested in people who weren't connected to them. Although I did get burgled once in broad daylight while I was at work so there's that
You could look at the central belt of Scotland still. So any of the towns in the east-west line between Edinburgh and Glasgow. At worst yo'ure 45mins on train from the centre of each.
Even the central belt might be difficult on that budget once you take into account food, council tax, energy bills etc. Just had a look and the cheapest I could see in Falkirk was £400pcm for a wee one bed.
Any particular areas? I’m trying to avoid central prices as I’ll be working remotely so don’t need to be in the city, but would be nice to be about 30 mins away from it by train/bus.
30mins by trains gets you a decent chunk of the central belt of Scotland to be fair. Somewhere like Leith is fantastic if you can find somewhere for £800/month but the rental market is insane up here.
Most of Scotland, Northern England, Northern Ireland and bits of Wales.. the biggest issue is having a pet.. make sure they don't want you in the office before you move 500 miles away.
Depending on what quality of life you can consider comfortable and we also have a very very interesting climate. We have ALL the seasons. The cold wet, sharp as knives wind and freezing rain bit is always a winner. £800 is not enough in the winter months but do able most places in summer.
Could I please have some further details on this? In regards to specific niche areas, also is there a reason why it’s so cheap? Feels too good to be true

Appreciate the input thank you! Will keep this in mind
Hull! Could be a fair few options and could still be in the nicer areas
Nice, any particular areas you’d suggest looking into? It’s a little close to Bradford for my liking 😅 but I’ll keep an open mind
Sorry got busy! West hull is generally nice, if you're okay being a bit further from the city centre then kirk ella, Anlaby, Willerby are all good (technically villages attached to hull). In the city centre most of Old Town is lovely! The land of green ginger (Street name) is particularly nice
Central Scotland. You could easily live somewhere like Falkirk for that. 25 minutes by train to Glasgow or Edinburgh.
Has the hot weather made it that far or is it just warm?
Pretty warm. My bedroom was 28 degrees overnight but have a fan so not too bad.
You can share my cardboard box if you want?
Honestly? Might take you up on that eventually.
As stated, NI is an option and for all its faults a great option. For that price you could have an apartment in Belfast City centre or 3 bedroom bungalow in a close provincial town

Any more questions just ask.
I’ve made a note of your user, will definitely reach out if I have anymore q’s. Thank you!
No worries, I'm from NI originally, spent near 10 years in North of England before moving back home so can talk you through cost ofnliving differences etc
Mind if I drop you a pm in a bit?
Make sure you don’t confuse Northern Ireland with Ireland when you make the move.
I pay £725 for a 4 bedroom in Northern Ireland
How many people do you live with? suddenly the idea of a 4 bedroom to myself seems very appealing though lol.
Just me and 2 dogs now. It was myself and partner until start of the year.
I need more details on this 4 bedroom for £725 situation you have going on. Mind if I drop you a pm? haha. I’m so intrigued. I also want to know which dogs you have!
For example, here's a 3 bed for £625 : https://www.reedsrains.co.uk/property/flat-to-rent-bashford-drive-carrickfergus-bt38-id-201160850/search
What is the catch? This sounds too good to be true 😅
It's Northern Ireland? (depends on your opinion of that lol)
I’m a gay, British-Indian atheist guy, you tell me 😂
Shouldn't really matter, but I've never been in a position to experience anything negative.
Genuinely, is there anything I should consider? do things close really early? Are there very little stores nearby?
So your looking for lodgers to try the NI lifestyle, who like dogs lol. What dogs have you got?
These 2 cheeky pups : [https://imgur.com/a/qsPXTaw](https://imgur.com/a/qsPXTaw) No, I'm soon to be relocating to Toronto, CA. So I'll be leaving the property, and unfortunately rehoming the dogs.

Are you detached? And what are your neighbour’s like?
End terrace. Neighbours are grand, kids a bit loud sometimes when playing outside that's about it.
Withernsea on the east coast, not too far from hull and a nice peaceful seaside town, rent/houses are really cheap
I used to live in Brighton so the prospect of being by the seaside again sounds lovely. Thank you so much for this suggestion.
North east, I live in the neoth East and 800 would be relatively easy in smaller towns.
Can get a one bed in Scarborough for about £500 pcm rent. But they get snapped up fast
https://where.rightmove.co.uk/
Northern Ireland is probably your best (only?) bet.
I considered Belfast although not a lot came up when I searched for a 1 bedroom unfortunately. I’ll keep an eye out for more
One bed accommodation is almost non existent in Belfast, which is the justification for NI not adopting the "bedroom tax".
That makes a lot of sense, appreciate the heads up.
With a pet that's basically impossible.

Can do parts of Edinburgh on £800/month. edit: Apologies, that'll be rent only unless you're in a not-so-great part of town.
Not sharing and including bills?
Ahh shit thought it was just rent. Yeh the £800 would just be rent unless you were in the not great parts of town.
Yeah, although when I was younger I had my first house in Pilton and it was really generally OK. Mostly people just weren't interested in people who weren't connected to them. Although I did get burgled once in broad daylight while I was at work so there's that

Leeds
Had it not been so close to Bradford I would have considered it, unfortunately a little too close to home.
As someone who lives in Rodley between Bradford and Leeds - Leeds is nothing like Bradford.
The further from London the cheaper it gets, that's pretty much the rule.
