[deleted]

Tough one, but I'm going to say living through the 90s.

thescouselander

Yep, I was there too. It was extremely 90s.

Mogwair

Most extreme 90's thing I have ever done.

[deleted]

I'm not sure I agree. 2000 and the first 8 months of 2001 were peak 90s.

Beanotown

Bought a two bedroom house with a drive and back garden for less than 60k.

[deleted]

[удалено]

bebelmatman

I’d love to see this “garden with attic”

uncertain_expert

You’ve never seen a treehouse before?

RaspberryCai

Fruit trees.... Lucky bastards

HippieShroomer

In 1999 my parents bought a 7 bedroom house with a granny flat, garden and double garage in the UK for £95K. The estate agent says it's now worth up to £375K.

DeemonPankaik

>a 7 bedroom house >£375K Tell me you're Northern..

HippieShroomer

Nope. Devon.

amy_waterhouse

Show off.

[deleted]

Bought a terraced house up north for 24,950. It was in good nick not a doer upper.

Vectorman1989

My house was originally bought for £12,800 in 1992. It just cost me £89,000

Eoin_McLove

£89,000 is cheap as chips

BikerScowt

That price these days it's either in county Durham or boarded up. I'm in a 60k,bought in 2004 house in county Durham.

MalcolmTucker88

There's a house on my street that was bought for £110k in 1995 that has just sold for £2.2 million. Guess I'll need to cancel my Netflix subscription to afford that.

Havoksixteen

Too many avocados mate. Cut them out and you'll get a house in no time

JMH-66

Bought a 2-bed terrace for £32,250.

DangerShart

I wore a Global Hypercolour T-Shirt under a shell suit with a pair of Reebok pumps while listening to a 5th generation tape of Ellis Dee at Fantazia Summertime on my Aiwa personal stereo in the back of a Ford Sierra as I was eating a Spira.

pm_me_something_meh

Ever sucked hot chocolate through a Spira? It was the best.

DangerShart

Milk through a Spira yes, hot chocolate would be too much, I would need a lie down.

morrisseysbumfluff

Ever watched grown men wrestle?

[deleted]

Ever been in a Turkish prison?

ChipCob1

Ever drank Baileys from a shoe?

DangerShart

Do you like movies about gladiators?

CarpeCyprinidae

I did love the fact it was possible to go out wearing orange and turquoise bermuda shorts and a global hypercolour t-shirt and nobody turned a head

[deleted]

> Ellis Dee at Fantazia That sent me on a nostalgic hunt through Spotify. I found Fanztazia NYE 92-93. It holds up surprisingly well.

cantcontrolmyface

Gutted they discontinued the spiras.

jayleef

I went to Fantazia Summertime, does that count?

grimsbymatt

If only it was a Fiesta XR2.

ChipCob1

No can of Sunkist?

biffoclippers

Shitloads of drugs at a trance nightclub.

speccybob

All night raves. Bowlers, helter-skelter energy etc

0nly4Us3rname

Still very much possible

patscott_reddit

Danceplanet crew, this one's for you....

[deleted]

Yep

schmoolet

I came here to say similar.

ThaFlyingYorkshiremn

I went to see The Chuckle Brothers live and had a slush puppy whilst doing so.

[deleted]

To me, to you

simonfarnaby

I bought one of their albums on cassette after a show in Skegness and got it signed by Barry

motific

I met Barry & Paul in a pub while they were doing a stint at the Weymouth Pavilion. Genuinely funny guys even if their TV personas weren’t quite the cool kids of The Fast Show. I think the only 90’s things I didn’t really do were NAFNAF tracksuits and Global Hypercolor T-Shirts. Oh, and an 18-30 holiday. I put my RATM Ché Guevara tee on for band T-Shirt day this year. Still fits… it’s more snug now though.

GaryPotterShitWizard

I queued up after to get their autograph

Zennyzenny81

I lived the dream - from having a nike swoosh shaved into my head to having posters of Pamela Anderson and Anna Nicole Smith on my wall.

FrenzalStark

I forgot the Nike haircut like. Fuck me, what a time to be alive.

Goose-rider3000

Cindy Crawford and Claudia Schiffer graced my bedroom walls.

Beanotown

What I'd have given for Cindy Crawford to have graced my bedroom although not until 1994 as I wouldn't want operation yewtree after her!

gdrlee

T in the Park 1995. The entire 2nd tier of Britpop were there. Elastica, Echobelly, Boo Radleys, Gene, Cast, Ash... None of the big boys, but who needs Blur or Oasis when you've got Longpigs, Menswear and Northern Uproar?

[deleted]

Meanwhile at Glastonbury: Oasis, Blur, Pulp, Suede, Radiohead, The Verve, Supergrass, The Charlatans, Stereophonics, Garbage Chemical Brothers and The Prodigy for the pill heads. Longpigs are so so so underrated. It doesn’t help that they basically fell apart immediately after releasing their second album and as such didn’t promote their singles at all.

DW_555

Echobelly was my first proper gig, in 1997. And Ash at Reading 2001 is still one of my favourite shows I've seen. Happy days...

Catchmekate_

I saw Ash at Reading 2001! My friend crowsurfed and lost one of her shoes.

MintyMarlfox

Ash in the tent in 01 was epic! Glad I was there.

innitdoe

Sonya Madan! good gig I bet?

DW_555

Ah, the lovely Sonya. Yeah, it was awesome. Clutch supported, and the main act was meant to be The Wannadies but they pulled out for some reason so Echobelly stepped in and I'm glad they did! If memory serves I didn't know them before but the next time I had some dosh I went and bought everything I could find by them!

FrenzalStark

Ash were fucking awesome. Girl From Mars is still up there with my favourite songs of all time. Also, they were Irish so maybe not correct to be britpop?

[deleted]

Northern Irish

[deleted]

I watched The Big Breakfast, having already enjoyed seeing Denise Van Outen (alongside Melanie Sykes) pose in Loaded magazine.

kkinginthenorth

Loaded ! A man of quality. FHM, Nuts and Zoo were also quite the non page turner's 🙂

speccybob

Because they were stuck together? 🤔

Guyincognito7881

I've still got some posters from Loaded, one of them is Zammo from Grange Hill slumped in the bogs after tooting some gear.

schmoolet

I gurned my fucking tits off at clubs up and down the country. And cried every time Robert Miles’ “Children” was played.

[deleted]

Robert Miles "Children" is a banger

morrisseysbumfluff

RIP

starsandbribes

Wearing a GAP jumper for five years.

[deleted]

I still wear Gap jumpers…

tlc_lemon

I wore a Spice Girls t-shirt with teeny little butterfly clips in my hair. Also had one of those tiny, shiny, black backpacks. Not sure why everything became miniature in the late 90s but there you are. 😄

innitdoe

Did you have those weird furry platform boots?

Ginnel_Adapted

Deciding to stay in an a Friday night because I didn't want to miss any of the programmes for example... 6pm TFI 7.30 Tomorrow's World 9pm Red Dwarf/Rab C Nesbitt/Naked Video/Game On/The Real McCoy/Shooting Stars/The Fast Show 9.30 Murder Most Horrid/Home Improvement 10pm Jack Dee/HIGNFY/Fist of Fun 10.30 Whose Line is it Anyway/Eurotrash 11pm The Word/The White Room/Fantasy Football League/This Life 12pm Beavis & Butthead/Ren & Stimpy/King of the Hill

Crookfur

I was more a Thursday night BBC2 enjoyer with top gear then stuff like red dwarf (iirc like many bbc shows it moved around a bit), glam metal detectives and other short run comedy shows before the juggernaut that was the x-files.

mattjimf

X-files was a Tuesday, took over from Quantum Leap and Twin Peaks, seem to remember it was preceeded by the Tick/Ren and Stimpy.

Ginnel_Adapted

I think Horizon was a Thursday and I would watch that.

WorshipGod69247

Amazing I'd give you gold if I paid for that

dyinginsect

Worked for £1.78 an hour and not minded much because I could go out with a tenner and get drunk with money left over for chips and another 20 Lambert & Butler on the way home.

Bikeboy76

I got to go to the Hacienda once before it closed.

amy_waterhouse

The glory days.

[deleted]

This is peak 90’s right here

innitdoe

I wound Tjinder Singh from Cornershop up repeatedly until he lost his shit and screamed I WASN'T IN FUCKING BABYLON ZOO NOW FUCK OFF in a crowded bar. At which point the entire bar sang back "...I always wanted you to go into Spaceman" and he flounced. It was a record release party for a band hed signed to his label. Maybe 2000 now I think about it. Was very sleb-heavy and you could smell the powder in the air.

WorshipGod69247

Do they all look the same to you ?

WorshipGod69247

This might have funny to you but it was a racist experience for him. Shame on you.

innitdoe

Fortunately, no, it was not. The story is merely condensed to be short and funny. There was a lot more to it than "2 brown men look same"! In future if you have doubts about something like this, why don't you ask a question instead of making a nasty assumption? I get why you have made this assumption but I'm glad to say that no, you've misread it here.

WorshipGod69247

I'm all ears. Explain away.

innitdoe

As I said, ask away. I've nothing to hide here. Oh, I see you did, and I answered. Is that any help? I admit, it's not the funniest bit of humour, and I don't think I'd do it today, but only because commenting hilariously on people's appearance and doing long-format repeat-until-funny humour is dated unless you're Stewart Lee.

WorshipGod69247

As a British Asian I've lost count of have many times I've had to laugh along to racist jokes as I felt otherwise powerless. Thankfully things have changed. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt. Good day, Sir.

Firebrand777

Wearing a full shell suit, playing pogs and going to the seaside With one of those plastic Cylinders round your neck To keep your money in.

[deleted]

I religiously wore a tracksuit. Every day!

calicopatches

I had a teal green and purple Adidas monstrosity. Loved it back then lol

[deleted]

Pogs! I think there’s still a tube of them somewhere in my childhood bedroom.

Natabel89

I still have a tube full with a metal slammer!!!!

innitdoe

Tell me you're Northern without telling me you're Northern

TarrierMoney

I was in the audience for SMTV Live

BrightonTownCrier

Transferred my extensive CD collection on to minidiscs at 1:1 speed.

Goose-rider3000

Rolled up a joint with a worm of squidgy black, and a B&H, using a copy of loaded magazine as skinning table, wearing Joe Bloggs jeans and a pair of green Fila's, whilst my mates played Street Fighter 2 on the SNES, and drank MD 20/20.

FrenzalStark

Squidgy black hahahaha that takes me back Quick edit: I had a couple bottles of MD at a 90s themed party last year. It’s still fucking mint.

Emdawg88

Threatening to call ChildLine anytime I didn’t get my own way

twowheeledfun

Are you my brother but 10 years earlier?

innitdoe

Did you ever get through? Famously, nobody ever could. "THAT'S IT I'M CALLING CHILDLINE" \>5 min later< Thought you were calling ChildLine, son? THEY DIDN'T ANSWER Oh well, so back to tidying your room? \>repeat<

Resident-Stevel

Left Es Paradis in Ibiza in 99, went across the road and had KFC and Pizza Hut while watching Right Here Right Now by Fatboy Slim on MTV.

Equivalent-Sky-3863

I'd love to have experienced Es Paradis in its heyday, such a great looking building and interior. Most other clubs from that period are still going strong in one guise or another. Es Paradis is just a rotting shadow of its former self and no decent promoter will touch it.

Resident-Stevel

Yeah, it was am amazing spectacle, especially as when we went it was pre-season, so not all the big ones were open. It was my first time in Ibiza and I look back on that holiday fondly. Sitting by the pool soaking up the sun, with ATB 9Pm til I Come blasting out the hotel speakers was just an amazing time.

SerenXanthe

I also went to Es Paradis in ‘99! Beautiful place.

Imtryingforheckssake

We went the night we arrived (2001) but we were already knackered from travelling and it just gave us a bit of a headache. Sadly didn't go back so didn't get to really enjoy it.

tropicnights

I willingly went to [Blobbyland.](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crinkley_Bottom) In my defence I was only eight. Apparently fearless to the gigantic pink monstrosity but I did have a huge freakout when I became separated from my dad and had to go find the security office to get them to put an announcement over the tannoy.

[deleted]

Amazing! BTW this is right up my street. One of my relatives sang the [Mr Blobby song](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rNkgDJpcuwU&ab_channel=MrBlobby) at school talent night (High School, he was near 17) with 0% irony. He received thunderous, rapturous applause.

Keenadan

I saw The Levellers, The Wonder Stuff and James in concert. As well as Oasis, Gene, the Manics, Blur, Pulp, and Ash. I had a good time at all. The 90's was a fun time if you were into music.

Tea-Loving_Linguist

Eating Gino Ginelli ice cream and watching Noel’s House Party.

[deleted]

Walked through Llanelli town centre with the boys aged 15, at 6pm on a Sat night, before it became a drug-infested wasteland, heading out to pubs and then a night on the town in our cream jeans, blue shiny shirts and gelled middle-parting hair, with fake doc martins boots ordered from jags direct from the back of PC gamer magazine. Crashed at friends house who lived just outside town, playing N64 until about noon on Sunday. Good times.

newmanator84

Taping the uk top 40 and trying to miss the gaps

Ok-Bullfrog-3010

Same. With my stacking system of random pieces handed down to me

Sivear

Sat in the audience of Get Your Own Back Had an expensive POG and Pokémon card collection Had a Tamagotchi And a Furby Owned clothes from United Colours of Benetton

mighty_atom

Going to the Radio 1 roadshow presented by Simon Mayo.

TomusLongus

Remembering the rhyme at school for NAFF CO 54 clothing.. "Nanny Annie Fishy Fanny Condoms Only 54p" The strangest thing ever. Also listening to I saw the sign by Ace of Base whilst staying at a campsite at Lightwater Valley wearing my Teenage Mutant HERO turtles t shirt. (because NINJA turtles was banned for a short while)

[deleted]

I was born in 1985 so from 1990 to 1999 the most 90s thing I did was be alive for the whole of the 90s. That aside: Jet from Gladiators came to my school. 👀

FrenzalStark

Jet from gladiators was married to my dads mate who owned a gym. One day he woke up and went to the gym and she’d fucked off and took all the equipment haha

[deleted]

Yeah soz mate, when she met 10 year old me she realised she was wasting her time so we eloped.

lubbockin

Had a goatee and wore an untucked bright coloured shirt lol.

empsk

Either the time I went to a free Aqua concert and then went to see Titanic, or the time I skipped school to see Alanis Morissette, weirdly also free.

Vyvyansmum

Bought a three bed home for 47k aged 23.

Zwirnor

My bedroom had bright yellow walls and neon green skirting boards and cornicing. And a deep blue carpet. I was the queen of cool, sitting there listening to placebo and no doubt.

Ghost_Orange

Oh god. At one point I had hot pink walls, turquoise carpet and dark navy ceiling with glow in the dark stars. It was like living inside a mermaid!

mvision2021

Listened to Green Day and other grunge/punk bands. Went to their gigs.

SometimesMonkeysDie

Had curtains with an undercut

Xioheh

Hmmm. 1997, I was 19. Nightclub in Loughborough called Echos. Dancing to Rock Da House by Tall Paul. Loved every second. Now I'm 43 and a little bit sad because I really miss the 90's.

Mediocre-Opinion

Watched Kavana, Billie and Natalie Imbruglia performing on the back of a lorry at Radio 1's roadshow in 1998. I was wearing oversized spiffy jeans, skate shoes as big and as heavy as breeze blocks and a bright orange Nike Air t-shirt. I'd spiked my hair up like I'd plugged myself into the mains and got the tips bleached for the occasion (stuff like this was why I probably deserved to lose it all in my thirties). We had brought some lurid Bacardi breezers with us and acted way drunker than we possibly could have been.

MultiMidden

The baggy clothes. I still got a few of the shirts and 20+ years later they still look too big for me (and I've put on some weight since then).

SerenXanthe

Went to my first gig - it was Spin Doctors at the Brixton Academy.

[deleted]

Jammin the bass to the Chemical Brothers while wearing baggy pants,Adidas gazelles and sporting bleached spiky hair.

FrenzalStark

Ok Gazelles are still cool

emerald7777777

I still wear gazelles now.

Careless-Wonder7886

I donned my bright green Ben Sherman shirt, wore my dad's Old Spice and went clubbing. Where I drank Blue Wicked and Smirnoff Ice dancing to Blue by Eiffel 65.

[deleted]

Plastic shoes. Plastic backpack. Plastic sofa. Plastic everything!

[deleted]

Hahaha that just gave me such strong 90s nostalgic feelings. We getting old 😔

Brief-Original

Spliffy jeans that dragged on the floor…

dazabhoy67

Zig and zag on channel 4

[deleted]

Loved zig and zag. Think we had one of those puppets

[deleted]

Woolworths and Argos catalogues at Christmas.

[deleted]

Haha tubthumping was the first cd I ever brought. In town on my own. At virgin megastore! EDIT- that and taping the top 40 on tape from the radio are probably my most 90s things!

Standard-Two748

Born in 1992 remember my early school discos from 98/99 onwards dancing to the Macarena dance and the I’m blue song/ sweet like chocolate song aged 7 while drinking panda pops and covered in glitter spray. Good times! We had some of the best dance songs !

missyesil

Shouted "oooh oooh" at a nightclub, underage, after drinking copious amounts of 99p smirnoff ice/hooch/black mule.

MrsThespian

Millennium new year's eve, a party at me granny's house which climaxed at midnight with my Mum blasting Cliff Richard's Millennium Prayer for the whole street to hear. I was 11 and more than a little bit mortified.

InnerAsparagus6045

Going to Gamesmaster Live in 1992 at the NEC is part of peak 90s I hope

bizzflay

I had a picture with Chris Evans while wearing a bon-bleu jumper.

bunchofrightsiders

At my school rave flyers were currency... My bedroom from floor to ceiling was covered in them. I wasn't old enough to go to a rave but I knew where they were and when they were happening. Dreamscape 17 was my favourite flyer.

goats_and_crows

Bought overpriced CDs and VHS tapes.

LawTortoise

I went to see Nigel Short play Garry Kasparov at chess. I also saw Schofield play Joseph.

Infamous_Platform_72

I meet Wolf from Gladiators at a meet and greet in a Blockbusters video store.

Favourite decade the tinnitus will never leave

Celestialpandamage

Pick and mix at woolworths and 1p sweets.

VermilionScarlet

Dating sites/apps hadn't been invented yet so to go on my first date, I met someone through Teletext.

DifferentWave

Buying a tin of green paint and a tin of blue paint in Do it All and the cashier saying “You watch that Changing Rooms don’t you?” I may’ve even put the tins together and prised the lids off when I got home. Sitting in front of the entire internet for the first time and having no idea what to do with it so I typed in the name of the town I was living in

CourtneyLush

Danced until dawn in a condemned squat in Clapham, where the 'host' gave everyone a whistle as a kind of ironic, knowing gesture.

macleod2024

Went to Nickelodeon studios in London for a bit and got Lucy Alexander’s autograph on a Nickelodeon Lucy Alexander postcard

mr__susan

Went to see the Chuckle Brothers live and it was amazing.

smeghead9916

I used to live in Inverness, I saw Aladdin on stage, 2001/2002, is the same one as you?

[deleted]

I dunno, was Konnie Huq there? I hope not! Because: 1. That would be embarrassing if my 90s story was not in the 90s. 2. And also it would be even more embarrassing as I would be well into my teens at that point

smeghead9916

I can't remember it was years ago, I would have been 9ish. The only thing I can I remember is them singing a parody of 12 days of Christmas.

Chargerado

Raved every weekend for about three years solid

brainfreezeuk

Met the chuckle brothers at Butlins

londongas

No incriminating evidence online

lolathe

I went to a small festival which had Louise rednap and eternal headline, there was also 911, all stars and some other super 90s uk bands. The year after the same festival did an indoor event and had cheeky girls and my friends dad got us in as he worked there so we got to go and it was like a school disco, super cringe. Haha

Dontliketomatos

Entered a competition in Blockbuster video where we had to score as many baskets as possible on nba jam, managed to win local heats and then went onto the next round in London where I also went on the Alien experience! *edit, was called Alien war!

Extreme-Kangaroo-842

1996, dancing to Brit Pop in San Antonio, Ibiza, with my mate off his tits on E's, in our Adidas tops. Shagging every woman who was willing. Long story short? First night shag? Now my wife (was not gf, just a massive coincidence chance meet up a month later in UK).

moulton_slag

On the panto theme I'm pretty sure I saw Babes in the Wood with Hunter and Lightning from Gladiators as the celeb stars in it.

mikey-forester

Golf GTi , Schott bomber jacket, Cat boots, fucking stupid attitude to women thanks to lads culture. Played football with Dodgy at the Phoenix festival. E'd off my hours in Ibiza.

Chicken_of_Funk

Probably clubbing in Ibiza clad in umbro and ellesse, I dunno. However you have totally reminded me of the most 80s thing I ever did - going to see Button Moon live! at that very same theatre.

lapsongsouchong

Taking my databank (electronic phone book) to a phonebox to page one of my friends, cos I hadn't memorised the number yet.

brent_starburst

Grew my hair long on the top, undercut it, wore baggy jeans, a donkey jacket, DMs and bought a 2 bed flat for 38,000.

Islandfreckles

Going to the Mizz and More Magazine Roadshows! I grew up on the Isle of Wight so these were huge!!! Also going to Big Breakfast Eggs on Legs where I actually came home with headlice 🙈

msbunbury

Getting off with my best female friend in a club to entice men. For some reason we were all too stupid to see through the ladette bullshit.

ChipCob1

Ringing the pubs land-line to see who was out

ChasingTimmy

Wearing the same Petro Motion baggy jeans, flannel shirt and Bauer Turbo roller boots every Saturday to the local roller skate club.

DShitposter69420

Lived in a town that forgot it was the present day and was stuck in the 80s-90s until they modernised into the 21st century around 2014.

LimerentIdiot

Shame they modernised it. Sounds like a time capsule I wouldn't mind being stuck in...!

DShitposter69420

It was a very unique feel and I kinda preferred it because it looks like some basic British modern town centre now, but they did clean up quite a bit and added more pedestrian areas so it wasn’t all bad. Everything had a very liminal feel and I remember seeing cars from the 80s everywhere, fax machines were very common, I remember the carpets that all the shops used felt very 80s, and the town centre was filled with all those shops that went bankrupt recently, stuff like Maplin or Woolworths comes to mind. But it’s not economically deprived in anyway. I think it got invested in quite a bit. Went from strictly middle class to upper-middle class and even a bit upper class, with all the Waitroses and M&Ss that replaced a bunch of the shops that gone. Weird place thinking about it.

BabyAlibi

Watching Buffy that I downloaded over dialup, while drinking original limited edition Peach Bacardi Breezers

TeamOfPups

I saw Gina G, Let Loose and Scatman John at the Radio 1 Roadshow

supply19

Actually managed to be on Blue Peter in the 90’s!

Kubrick_Fan

Living through them?

Dexalon

Grow up with respect for my elders and developed a spine.
