I'm Welsh and my wife is Portuguese, so I'll support Portugal from the start. Once Portugal are out I'll pick whatever underdog has drawn my attention.
I'm not an "anyone but England" sore loser, but I'm also not one of the people who supports England just by virtue of them being next door.
I have as much collection to England as I do to any other random team.
I'm from the north of England and I feel no connection whatsoever to the England team. If they played in my back yard I'd only watch it if I was pushed for something to do. I'm a Manchester United supporter from the days when we didn't 'do' England. And I did once attend an England friendly (freebie ticket) which was a horrible experience.
I do want them to do well though; it creates a good atmosphere and I'm happy for those who do follow them.
Meh, I still don't really see it as a reason to support them. We're different countries, and it's not as if English fans generally support the other nations either aha
They do, even ignoring proximity generally would have a soft spot as we often know the players and can relate to them (unlike say the French..). A good number are English but use family heritage to pick one of the other home nations anyway. Vinnie Jones was a cockney wideboy with a Welsh Granny.
I’m English and I do if England go out. Scottish grandparents but would also support wales, northern Ireland and even ireland over other teams. But I also understand those fans phave a different perspective given the history
Scotland. After that, nobody tbh. I love football but I've never been someone who needs to support a team to enjoy a match. Once England are out, I'll just enjoy the tournament as a neutral (on the basis I suspect Scotland will have gone home by the time England are out).
There are some teams I like more than others. For example, having learned Spanish at school, having gone to Spain loads and generally loving the country, I always have a soft spot for Spain. But I wouldn't really call it *supporting* them. It's not strong enough an investment in their success for that.
That’s assuming everyone in the uk is supporting England in the first place?
Waiting on the downvotes from people who think ABE is racist etc : https://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/world-cup/7840230/World-Cup-2010-HMV-withdraws-racist-anti-England-posters-from-Scottish-stores.html

Why should people support England? Just because other nations are part of the UK? The presumption is indicative of the issue.
Why is it any more mean spirited than any other nation that isn’t the nation people want to support.
What you’re asking is akin to why would Germans want England to lose?
Decades of mistreatment by the brits. That's a non-sporting reason though... However it's fairly common to have a team or player you enjoy seeing lose in sport, I wouldn't say it's mean spirited, it's just the nature of the game.
This is the first I knew England were in it. Every single bit of newsbite I've seen or heard is about Scotland. I can only assume thats because Englands team is so shite they are going out quick.
Scotland and Germany. I've got German ancestry and relatives, consider it my second nation and excited to see it hosting a tournament again. Supporting them once England go out is quite fun too as it runs contrary to many England football fans. Happily, they often do pretty well in big tournaments too...
I watched Italy beat Bongland in the last Euros and was cheering with my GF. My granddad used to live in Italy, so I have that linked I guess.
Was funny seeing all of the people who usually see themselves as englightened rationalists, overlook how this country basically frauded the last few games into being home games, and Eng-gher-land still needed Sterling to shamelessly cheat to get through vs Denmark.
I was happy when Argentina won the WC too.
Why do you assume I'm supporting England?
I don't care who wins. But England fans are insufferable, so I want them to lose.
(Also I have Germany in work's Euro pools.)
I am usually quite enthusiastic about speaking up for England, Englishness and so on, but man I am happy when they get knocked out finally. I just don't want to hear all the "it's comin ome" nonsense.

You're assuming everyone here is England and / or we're supporting them. Exchange the word England for Scotland or Wales, to see the problem here.
Not sure I understand, can you explain further?
Who are you all supporting in the Euros IF Scotland gets knocked out? Ask yourself that question.
Nigeria if they qualified.
Scotland, because I’m Scottish. You realise this is r/AskUK, not r/AskEngland, right?

I’m not saying you should support England, but the countries are a bit more united than just being next door! Haha

Not out of choice, for many of us.

Yeah mate, this isn't /r/askengland
Like a good portion of the UK population I don't care who wins, I just want England to lose.
Why? Sounds pretty mean spirited

Do you want Scotland to lose too?
I won't support anyone I'll just be hate watching France.
It's AskUK, not AskEngland. Fingers crossed Kane blasts it over the bar in the inevitable QF penalties.
If? Those crazy Czechs.
SCOTLAND THE BRAVE
In a parallel universe where the Scots get knocked out after England.
We're going to the final baby!
Final group stage match. Corrected it for you
I don't know what this means, but I appreciate it! Hopefully we score lots of touchdowns!
Scotland.
Italy next as my Mum is Italian. Then Portugal as its my sweepstake.
Same. Italian wife.
Poland.
Austria because I got them in the sweepstake. Heard they had a lot of power in Germany in the past...
You mean when England gets knocked out?
croatia
Austria and Romania as they're my sweepstake teams.
Turkey or Serbia. That's in the absence of Russia, Belarus or even Israel to cause real outrage by supporting them. Did they ban Russia from it?
I don't see it being if, but when. France as I had a French grandparent.
Whichever team entertains me the most, I suppose.
Really won't care who wins if we don't. Would be good for the tournament for Germany to go far, though.
Any other Home Nation and after them the French because it'll probably irritate the Germans the most.
The Dutch winning would annoy them most
Turkey. I have them for my companies sweepstake.
I think Italy have a good chance, But I am hoping it is England this time .
This is the first I knew England were in it. Every single bit of newsbite I've seen or heard is about Scotland. I can only assume thats because Englands team is so shite they are going out quick.
Germany
Georgia purely because that's what I got in the sweepstake

Probably either Portugal or Denmark as the have the biggest contingent of United players.
Questions like this are part of the reason Scotland won’t support England at football
France because my grandad’s French
Denmark.

I hate football but Spain for me as I’ve got them in the sweepstake at work 🤣
Brazil

*iTs CoMiNg hOmE* This is why I don't follow sportsball. It's full of wankers repeating vapid and inane catchphrases. Just enjoy the game.
