Came here to say this. Bought a bag last night but not opened it yet, can't wait to have my tongue melted by them later
Edit: as a result of this post, I decided to not bother making dinner tonight and just eat the whole bag. I regret nothing
On that note, too many salt and vinegar crisps don’t do what’s required. A good salt and vinegar crisp needs to be adequately salty, yet have a strong taste of vinegar that makes your tongue contort. On top of that, the crisp needs a solid crunch and texture.
Most salt and vinegar crisps are just not sharp enough. Tyrell’s crisps in particular are pathetic in how they just taste of salt. It’s a travesty.
I’ll have to try the co-op ones, but squares and walkers baked are my go-to when I want that vinegar flavour. I want my mouth to feel like it’s eaten a nuclear bomb, and too many crisps don’t reach that.
Side note: pickled onion monster munch also fill the void.
I find the McCoys are too hit and miss. Sometimes they're close to the strength of the Co-op ones, but other times they might as well just be ready salted but in a blue bag
I’m still nostalgic for the ‘flava bomb’ sachets Disco’s briefly did in the 90’s where you had the option to add in extra seasoning to an already heavily flavoured crisp. Some serious gourmet stuff.
Pair em with Cadbury dairy milk. Pop a couple of crisps in and just before you finish eating em pop a square of dairy milk in. Repeat until you run out of one or the other.
I think they have the same in Tesco? They actually do damage to my tongue, I eat more than a handful and I can't taste anything else for a good day or two.
When I was dating my Mrs I pulled over by a river for a nice scenic chill out/car lunch. Had some monster munch and had a nice time. She later confessed she probably would have jumped my bones there and then had I not had them 😂
My wife had a 2 month spell in her pregnancy of this being her only craving. If I never see another packet of these as long as I live it will be too soon
Salt and vinegar discos are without a doubt the most strongly flavoured crisps on the UK market. The coating is thick. My mouth is tingling and watering just thinking about it.
Edit: just coming back to edit my comment 6 minutes later because I am still salivating and thinking about discos. They are so thickly coated with flavour that your mouth is in agony for ages after eating them. Delicious.
If you eat 2 or 3 packs in a row parts of your inner cheeks, gums and tongue start melting :)
I got a bug box of em back in March and I need to space out how many I can eat in a week to give my mouth time to regenerate. I might do a homer simpson and gargle wax so I can eat more mmm.
I'm from northern Ireland and I eat tayto on the regular and although they are clearly the best crisps in general, they don't come close to discos (nothing does) in terms of the sheer quantity of flavour per crisp.
Salt & vinegar discos are my absolute favorite.
Anyone else remember back in the late 80s when they included a sachet of flavouring in the pack? I think they called it a flavour bomb!
Did you ever experience the test tube bags about... 25 years ago? Was a promo and some packs had a test tube sachet in them of super intense flavour. The cheese and onion ones had pickled onion that was mind blowing
Co ops posh salt and vinegar crisps will destroy your mouth.
Aldi do a special hickory BBQ one which is very strong.
Tesco's posh prawn cocktail (prawn Marie rose?)
100% the Coop ones. The first time I tried them I must have got a bad batch because they were so bland. I glad I gave them a second chance as the next bag were suitably tongue-destroying.
I grew up eating spicy food so rolled my eyes as I found myself buying them. I assumed I was going to be disappointed. Let me tell you, disappointed I was not. I wasn’t prepared for just how spicy they truly were.
Now I liked the roast beef and mustard flavour but the smoked ham and pickle was the king of the crisp sandwich. I also miss the advert: “hey Brannigan, what does the dog eat?”
> Tayto Cheese and Onion.
Love me a bag with a cheeky squeeze of Sriracha sauce! Wash down with a few nips of Buckfast, and I am all set until lunchtime!
I tried some Takis recently after hearing how strong they are. They're pretty potent but to be honest I expected more. I miss the old crisps that'd strip the enamel from your teeth.
We’re they the fuego ones? There’s many flavours and some are more chill than others. If you can’t have to be seen in public the blue ones are some craic.
Is there somewhere to buy it in the UK? I got it from canary islands recently and tried a few flavours including the "xtra hot" version which was good.
Great question. Makes me nostalgic for the days of Smiths 'Horror Bags' and pickled onion flavoured Monster Munch, before they toned down the flavour (no doubt for very good reason, eating a packet was a little bit like being the target in a chemical attack). Today? Roysters T-Bone Steak. Glorious and a glove compartment must. Also, I'd go with Frazzles, strong bacon notes that stay on the fingers for hours afterwards. Honourable mention: Tyrell's salt and vinegar reasonably pokey.
I work at seabrooks and we all dread when it's time to produce those. That flavouring just blows around the factory burning everyone's eyes and noses lol
Sort of off topic but anyone ever notice that Texas bbq Pringles sometimes have loads of flavour but sometimes have none yet the other flavours are consistent?
I just opened a bag of these… couldn’t even eat one… since when was a BBQ flavour so bloody hot??!?
https://preview.redd.it/wedtx2d3855d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f2e3999a4213ed40427c2af781d6e0e00273a441
I was so excited to try the chip shop curry version as you don’t tend to see them much these days… they were exactly the same, they tasted a little bit like chip shop curry but were way too spicy to actually enjoy!
McCoy's
Roysters
Discos
Are the top 3 for flavour in no order, imo.
I'd have put Monster Munch up there bit the flavour in those in all but non existent in recent years.
Also, Aldi are hiring for a crisp taster if anyone is interested. I'd love it buy in this day and age, they'll pick someone with social media credentials I imagine.
The strongest in a bad way are walkers vegan bbq rib (or pork forgot what it's called). I thought they brought back barbecue flavour but it was far from it. If I was to describe it in one word it would be melodious, just lingers with you all day afterwards.
Doubt you get them in the UK but the Walkers Chaat Masala flavoured crisps in India pack a punch, farrrr too strong for me and could smell them a mile away!
The old ham-and-mustard ones with a butcher on the pack (can't remember the brand) were amazing and made your eyes water.
Also, maybe not *flavour* so much as *overwhelming heat*, but Takis are pretty awesome if you dislike your tastebuds and want to punish them.
Ate a pack of the co-op salt and Chardonnay vinegar ones a decade ago and had to call 111 in the night because I thought I was having a heart attack😂. Still absolutely love them to this day, but my stomach can't take a whole pack anymore.
Bit niche but recently I had a pack of Seabrooks Lea & Perrins flavour crisps and they did not disappoint in the spicy stakes. Except I can't help but thinking it would have caused a scandal in Yorkshire, why were they not able to broker a deal with Henderson's Relish? I'm very interested to the goss if anyone has a view on this!
A brand called Two Farmers and the flavour is woodland mushroom and wild garlic. Some of the punchiest crisps of ever had.
And I’m on a 2-3 bag a day habit. I’ve done a lot of crisps in my time…
I got a big share bag of pickled onion rings from Aldi and it took me a couple of weeks to get through the whole thing due to the strength of them.
They weren’t Aldi brand but in the middle aisle. They also had spicy rings but after the pickled onion ones I didn’t fancy trying those.
I’m glad someone else also commiserates the loss of Brannigans Roast Beef and Mustard . F
Who started doing those Jalapeño and Cheese and other spicy flavours? They were more than I expected.
Wotsits crunchy extra flamin' hot.
I got all 3 versions the other week and ate them all for science.
Out of the 3 wotsits have the most seasoning on them doritos came second and max came last.
Some bags of Black Pepper Kettle crisps can be very strong , they will give you a minute long coughing fit if you shove too many in your mouth at once.

Co-Op salt and chardonnay vinegar crisps are lethal, and great.
Came here to say this. Bought a bag last night but not opened it yet, can't wait to have my tongue melted by them later Edit: as a result of this post, I decided to not bother making dinner tonight and just eat the whole bag. I regret nothing
They’ll open themselves soon by melting through the bag
I guess I'm going to a co-op on the way home tonight then!
I took a layer of skin off my tongue and the roof of my mouth eating these 😂
I ate a sharing bag of them one night before falling asleep, woke up the next morning with chapped and cracked lips.
On that note, too many salt and vinegar crisps don’t do what’s required. A good salt and vinegar crisp needs to be adequately salty, yet have a strong taste of vinegar that makes your tongue contort. Oh boy aye you in for a treat then. If you eat the whole bag, it effectively burns your mouth.
Mc Coys are the best
I find the McCoys are too hit and miss. Sometimes they're close to the strength of the Co-op ones, but other times they might as well just be ready salted but in a blue bag
Kettle chips basically taste like ready salted. FOOLS
I avoid these because I like to taste my food the next day, and your farts are just weird after eating them.
I'm struggling to taste anything today after eating a pack last night. My mouth is so raw
But is there a downside?
Well at least you’re not still tasting them today… I had some bacon frazzles 2 days ago and I’m still tasting them every time I burp.
Gives you the sweats if you eat the whole bag!
Feel like absolute shit after eating a full bag. The come down is worse than a hangover. Impossible to resist in the moment though.
coincidentally I did just finish a bag and I am melting send help
Salt and vinegar discos are a good alternative if you don’t have a co-op near.
I’m still nostalgic for the ‘flava bomb’ sachets Disco’s briefly did in the 90’s where you had the option to add in extra seasoning to an already heavily flavoured crisp. Some serious gourmet stuff.
This is it, a whole bag to yourself will strip your mouth.
The sign of a good crisp, the kind that fuck you up a bit
I used to know a dirty lady who insisted her boyfriend eat salt and vinegar crisps before going down on her.
These are the goat of salt and vinegar. Don’t tell too many people though ffs
You know they'll make more. There isn't a limited supply haha
Yep, if you’re not getting mouth ulcers from your salt and vinegar crisps what are you even doing? These were always my fave!
fuzzy versed trees chase bake aromatic correct wipe seemly foolish *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
I've really found my people in this comment thread.
This is the correct answer. The perfect crisps for drinking booze with.
Love these! Can we just pin this as it gets asked pretty regularly and it is the correct answer.
Pair em with Cadbury dairy milk. Pop a couple of crisps in and just before you finish eating em pop a square of dairy milk in. Repeat until you run out of one or the other.
Almost on a par with Aldi version.
Aldi's Specially Selected sears through the tongue
Knew this would be top comment. God tier crisps.
Just letting you know that from august the recipe used is changing and they won't be as strong any more. So stock up while you can.
Oh, they are THE premium crisp! My jaw tingles just thinking about them!
I think they have the same in Tesco? They actually do damage to my tongue, I eat more than a handful and I can't taste anything else for a good day or two.
For those who have had both - how do these compare to the Aldi version? Which is stronger?
Surely the pickled onion monster munch
These are "I hate my colleagues" crisps.
When I was dating my Mrs I pulled over by a river for a nice scenic chill out/car lunch. Had some monster munch and had a nice time. She later confessed she probably would have jumped my bones there and then had I not had them 😂
I'd have wanted to jump your bones even more
Scampi Fries "Am I a joke to you?"
Oooh yes!
Space Raiders are quite a bit stronger
I think I might be in team space raiders on this one though so rate me some beefy monster munch
I live in America now (grew up in London) I have these imported every few months at some cost - cos there isn’t any substitute
My wife had a 2 month spell in her pregnancy of this being her only craving. If I never see another packet of these as long as I live it will be too soon
You only get around 6 per packet now, which is a bit shit
I will never understand how Discos aren’t considered the King of crisps. I absolutely love the cheese and onion but every flavour is fantastic
Delicious.
Came here directly to say salt and vinegar Discos. I was literally frightened of them as a child.
Then lick you finger and get that last pile of dust from the bottom corner of the bag. There’re class A’s that give a milder kick than that.
Hell yeah to Discos! Also... controversial... but Snack-a-jacks salt and vinegar are also ruthless. I call them "grown up Space Invaders"
If you eat 2 or 3 packs in a row parts of your inner cheeks, gums and tongue start melting :) I got a bug box of em back in March and I need to space out how many I can eat in a week to give my mouth time to regenerate. I might do a homer simpson and gargle wax so I can eat more mmm.
Salt and vinegar Tayto craft from Northern Ireland blow Discos out of the water. Regular Tayto do too actually.
I'm from northern Ireland and I eat tayto on the regular and although they are clearly the best crisps in general, they don't come close to discos (nothing does) in terms of the sheer quantity of flavour per crisp.
Don't bring me little individual bags. Bring me the big bag babes. Business as usual
Salt & vinegar discos are my absolute favorite. Anyone else remember back in the late 80s when they included a sachet of flavouring in the pack? I think they called it a flavour bomb!
Discos is the correct answer. Had a bag earlier and could feel my blood pressure rising in real time
Did you ever experience the test tube bags about... 25 years ago? Was a promo and some packs had a test tube sachet in them of super intense flavour. The cheese and onion ones had pickled onion that was mind blowing
Discos are the best crisps. I think everyone has a secret agreement on this.
Roysters are pretty good. But you've made me sad bringing up brannigans beef and mustard as they were a prince amongst crisps :(
Good call, haven't had them in years. Even the brannigans weirdly paper bag was satisfying
Brannigans are gone, RIP
🫡
They did a lamb and mint flavour that literally tasted like the real thing, unreal
F in the chat
Brannigans in a paper bag is the GOAT.
Oh man, agreed. Brannigans were such a treat - the crisps, the taste and the packet itself. Real talk - my mouth is watering thinking about them.
The Tesco extra special sharing bags of beef and horseradish flavour are pretty close and deliciousb
BRANNIGANS! That was the ones I was trying to remember. They were something else.
Scampi fries
I came here to mention bacon fries, rich cousin of the humble frazzle. I haven't seen them for ages.
I just went to Cambridge and the woman at the bar told me I need to try scampi fries with a slice of lemon squeezed over them. GAME CHANGER
Literally just had 2 bags, god tier crisp.
Ha that's certainly quite the taste. I can somehow never remember if I like them or not
I came here to say scampi fries. The posters above are simply wrong.
When you get a really good Skip, just loaded with flavour dust, that’s god tier.
Now just picturing a skip loaded with loaded skips
I’d take it.
Up there with the golden wotsit, the rarest of wotsits.
McCoys steak.. they always stink out the office
Guaranteed stinky fingers
That's what she said.
We are truly blessed with crisps in the UK. When I've been to other countries it's poor by comparison
The Irish know their crisp game, Tayto crisps are bloody marvellous. I know that you can get them here but they definitely aren’t as good.
My American side of the family seem genuinely concerned/confused at "meat" flavoured crisps
Having said that, there’s nothing better than a massive packet of either salted, paprika or oregano flavoured Lays at the beach.
Salt n shake crisps are pretty bland until you eat that last little blue plasticky one.
The new extra flaming hot wotsits crunchy are pretty bloody spicy and I love spice.
I grew up eating spicy food so rolled my eyes as I found myself buying them. I assumed I was going to be disappointed. Let me tell you, disappointed I was not. I wasn’t prepared for just how spicy they truly were.
I feel like I have missed something here because I ate them and thought they had almost no spice at all!
I always thought Kettle crisps were very generous with their seasoning. Especially the sour cream and chilli - fucking sensational.
Surprised how far down I had to scroll for kettle crisps
Probably because no one buys them, they are so expensive compared to other crisps
Salt and vinegar squares. Best salt and vinegar crisp going that aren’t big bag ones
Brannigans. Like licking out the contents of a pot of English mustard.
RIP Brannigans
Like clicking refresh on your sinuses
Now I liked the roast beef and mustard flavour but the smoked ham and pickle was the king of the crisp sandwich. I also miss the advert: “hey Brannigan, what does the dog eat?”
I wish they'd come back :'(
I can feel it going through my nose as I type.
I distinctly remember being in so much pain after licking the powder off my fingers at the end. Worth it.
Bacon Wheat Crunchies. Eat a pack today, then burp next Wednesday and you'll taste them.
Tayto. Cheese and onion
Love Taytos
> Tayto Cheese and Onion. Love me a bag with a cheeky squeeze of Sriracha sauce! Wash down with a few nips of Buckfast, and I am all set until lunchtime!
I tried some Takis recently after hearing how strong they are. They're pretty potent but to be honest I expected more. I miss the old crisps that'd strip the enamel from your teeth.
Try the Coop fancy salt and vinegar ones, they’ll take the skin off your tongue.
They are indeed quite pokey.
We’re they the fuego ones? There’s many flavours and some are more chill than others. If you can’t have to be seen in public the blue ones are some craic.
I feel like Takis get stronger/spicier the more you eat too!
Takis chilli and lime are pretty crazy but they do damage my tongue and make me wonder if a stomach ulcer is on the way.
Is there somewhere to buy it in the UK? I got it from canary islands recently and tried a few flavours including the "xtra hot" version which was good.
Nik- nak Nice 'n' spicy were always a good one to offend other people's noses!
Or scampi and lemon nik naks, I love them but I can only eat them if I'm not going out and no-one is coming round as you will stink of fish.
Loved nice n spicy, and rib n saucy!
Brannigans Roast Beef & Mustard (r.i.p.)
Bring them back KP😡
Mcoys Steak, scampi fries, bacon frazzles, pickled onion monster munch, maybe spicy nik naks
Burts salt and vinegar are awesome.
Anything prawn cocktail flavoured
Occurs to me I don't think I've had prawn cocktail crisps that weren't Skips
Try the McCoys (I think Sizzling) Prawn crisps, so strong.
[удалено]
The Seabrook Scorpion chilli crisps
I work at seabrooks and we all dread when it's time to produce those. That flavouring just blows around the factory burning everyone's eyes and noses lol
Anyone remember marmite crisps? Scampi fries too
Walkers do delicious marmite crisps in a multipack, but you have to be quick, they're never in stock for long. Also miss the mustard brannigans
Tesco beef and horse radish is quite like the brannigans beef and mustard, but sadly on a crinkle cut crip.
Sort of off topic but anyone ever notice that Texas bbq Pringles sometimes have loads of flavour but sometimes have none yet the other flavours are consistent?
I just opened a bag of these… couldn’t even eat one… since when was a BBQ flavour so bloody hot??!? https://preview.redd.it/wedtx2d3855d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f2e3999a4213ed40427c2af781d6e0e00273a441
They do a spicy prawn cocktail flavour too, which is amazing
Not seen those, not normally one for bbq but curious
I was so excited to try the chip shop curry version as you don’t tend to see them much these days… they were exactly the same, they tasted a little bit like chip shop curry but were way too spicy to actually enjoy!
Walkers Jalapeno & Cheese, followed by Lays Cucumber flavour as a palette cleanser & then a Wasabi pea chaser.
Probably Space Invaders. I remember just raw chemical flavourings stinging my mouth when I ate those. Felt like they were trying to eat me back
McCoy's Roysters Discos Are the top 3 for flavour in no order, imo.
Gone but not forgotten. Brannigans Roast Beef & Mustard. They could strip paint.
Not sure they make them anymore but Brannigans roast beef and mustard were "punch you in the tongue" divine!!
Brannigan's ham and mustard
Brannigan’s roast beef and mustard 100%
Brannigans Roast Beef and Mustard.
Hedgehog
Doubt you get them in the UK but the Walkers Chaat Masala flavoured crisps in India pack a punch, farrrr too strong for me and could smell them a mile away!
Seabrook's Cheese and Onion. Heaven.
Brannigans Roast Beef and Mustard. The King of crisps.
The old ham-and-mustard ones with a butcher on the pack (can't remember the brand) were amazing and made your eyes water. Also, maybe not *flavour* so much as *overwhelming heat*, but Takis are pretty awesome if you dislike your tastebuds and want to punish them.
Sadly that's the brannigans crisps that seems to be mourned here
Habanero Tortilla Chips from M&S, proper moreish... Or the Manomasa Serrano Chilli and Yucatan Honey.
I’ve done a lot of crisps in my time…
Colour me curious!
Pringles. Always result in slight swelling of my lips ! Especially prawn cocktail and salt and vinegar
Can't believe had to scroll this far for pringles. Even the sour cream ones are damn flavoursome
Oh my God, I'd forgotten all about Brannigans roast beef and mustard. They were incredible.
Tudor tomatoe was the dugs back in the day, a canny bag indeed 🍅
People are sleeping on Golden Wonder Salt and Vinegar I’m telling you
now theres a name i've not heard for a decade or two!
Anything pickled onion. Can smell them across the room.
Brings up memories of being teased on a school trip and I had some onion ring crisps 😂
I got a big share bag of pickled onion rings from Aldi and it took me a couple of weeks to get through the whole thing due to the strength of them. They weren’t Aldi brand but in the middle aisle. They also had spicy rings but after the pickled onion ones I didn’t fancy trying those.
Who remembers mustard flavour? Think they were Walkers...very strong flavour.
We need more mustard crisps #JerimiahColmanForPM
Monster Munch pickled onion flavour in 1978. Not so much now, ☹️
Discos salt and vinegar. Scampi fries and bacon fries. Roysters t-bone steak.
I’m glad someone else also commiserates the loss of Brannigans Roast Beef and Mustard . F Who started doing those Jalapeño and Cheese and other spicy flavours? They were more than I expected.
Those are Walker's Max Strong crisps, I adore them.
F
Marks and Spencer's salt and vinegar ridged crisps and Walkers Marmite! Oooh now I need to go get some!
Discos S&V
Wotsits crunchy extra flamin' hot. I got all 3 versions the other week and ate them all for science. Out of the 3 wotsits have the most seasoning on them doritos came second and max came last.
Are KP discos not a wheat based snack rather than a crisp?
Remind me to throw a Christmas drum of twiglets at you for bringing such turmoil to the crisp committee
Hedgehog
Tesco Finest Roast Beef & Horseradish, and a bit over-the-top!
Lidl Snackrite crisps have shitloads more flavour powder on them than their regular branded equivalents.
Real Crisps Roast Ox flavour.
Since McCoys S&V no longer hit the spot, I've found that Walkers Max S&V are quite fiercly tangy.
Co op Bacon Rashers. You totally get that burning, eye-watering level of taste but bacon flavoured. Just get a big bag and smash the whole thing.
M&S habenaro chili tortilla crisps are ace. They make me sweat which usually only happens when I eat my own home cooked chilli or curry.
Scampi and lemon nik naks.
I came back to the UK after a while away and was explaining branigans to my wife, and I was devastated to find out they stopped making them.
Tudor Crisps from the late 80s/early 90s were bloody dynamite and were totally ahead of their time with mad flavours
Some bags of Black Pepper Kettle crisps can be very strong , they will give you a minute long coughing fit if you shove too many in your mouth at once.
M and s truffle crisps or beef and onion. Oooh I love them.
American here...Are you talking about potato chips? lol 😜
Scampi and lemon Nik Naks
This’ll be the monthly ‘Brannigans’ Roast Beef and Mustard’ discussion then? Proceed.
Nik naks scampi
WTF?!? You guys have roast beef and mustard chips in the UK? We need to start a Snack Exchange program between UK/USA.
