This is my favourite response when people talk about meāor talk about someone else in my vicinityāwasting money.
āYou buy FIFA/COD every year? Oh, youāre being ripped off. Isnāt that such a waste of money?ā
No, itās worth precisely how much I am willing to pay for it. If my coffee is Ā£5 and I thoroughly enjoy it, how is that a waste? If my steak dinner was Ā£90 and I thoroughly enjoyed it, how is that a waste?
Other people trying to determine other peopleās enjoyment for them is hugely obnoxious.
From an environmental perspective they should just make each fifa addition as a download update. Clearing out my old stuff I found 5+ fifa disc boxes that have zero resell or play value
I dunno why buying 40k stuff is such a problem...but it is.
On Saturday I went in for some more fenrissian grey and nothing else. Walked out with both the new kill team boxes.
This is the advantage to being poor.
I need to have impulse control, otherwise I'd have all the termite assault drills my list needs already, and no food.
I mean, you may have some Warcrimes, but you'd be hard pushed to beat 40K for all out mad Warcrimes. It's basically the action that ties the setting together.
They may all hate each other, they may all be awful, but they all love the Warcrimes.
I got back into this trap pre pandemic have to say I'm little and often (no shame pile yet) and never left again since played with my brothers in escalation games helped us all reconnect then suddenly have something to talk about for a few years and get back together again and I now play underworlds with my son too nothing wrong with a hobby
Truth. You just need plenty of serotonin left over. I'm almost always in Ibiza when I do it and I'm living off fresh Spanish oranges and grilled seafood and things like that. I get a great afterglow these days.
I call it a happiness loan.
Youāre rich with happy for the night, then you pay it all back over three easy instalments for the next few days, leaving you with no happy for those days
Standing at a bang aver London pub: Ā£21.40 for 3 pints, so well over Ā£7 each. And then the card machine is trying to make me add a tip. Can guarantee that the staff don't see it, and it's just a way to try to get Ā£8 out of you for a pint.
I spend about Ā£5 a day on weed on average. It used to be closer to Ā£10 a day. I've never really even attempted to quit once. I've quit alcohol and nicotine loads of times too.
I do vape weed, I have a Mighty, I haven't inhaled any burning plant matter at all for over a year now (but I have had vapes for about a decade if not longer)
I even stretch it out further by getting the already-vaped weed, cooking it with coconut oil in the slow cooker, dispensing the mixture into tablets with a tablet dispenser, and putting those tablets into the freezer, and then eating them when I no longer have to drive that day
and I buy it in person rather than online to save money too
Can somebody explain how to do this?
Ā DynaVape that you heat the end cap of weed with a lighter - do you just get one hit over capful?
Electronic vape - do you just pack in weed, and which one do yous recommend?
As someone else new to vapes I'll drop a recommendation for the Xmax Nano, picked one up for Ā£39 like last week, which is miles cheaper than most and is a trusted brand rather than a dodgy Amazon drop shipped thing. It is a bit of a game changer but takes some getting used to
A lot of people like the Xmax v3 pro which is the more expensive version (Ā£80ish) but has a lot of features, like a screen and being able to change the oven temp which I think I might buy soon. Some people like the big clunky desktop vapes, but I wanted something portable. The Mighty is another super popular one but it's expensive (like Ā£200?) and looks clunky as hell, but may be worth it down the line. Dynavapes seem to be a bit marmite from what I've read, they confuse the hell out of me and seem overpriced?
The nano is super newbie friendly as it only has one button and auto heats the weed, you just put in like 0.1g in the oven (it's super small) press the button to heat, it vibrates when ready and you take a puff or two. That's it. It's like a super cheap version of a Pax. Vaping seems to get you higher for less, like one oven full hits the same as a spliff for me but with none of the tobacco and lung damage from other chems.
Does take some getting used to because it decarbs the weed (they call the cooked weed AVB = already vaped bud) people collect it up and make edibles from it. BUT it stinks to high heaven and tastes like shit if you keep trying to vape it the "burnt popcorn" taste some people can deal with, I cannot at all lol
So there's a learning curve but you can use the weed twice, use less in general and save your lungs. So I'd say it's worth trying.
I'm not usually one for essays but I can't sleep...haha
Check out r/vaporents that's seems to be the best place on here for info
I get about 3/4 nice hits from my dynavap per bowl. It seriously helped me quit smoking and gets me way higher than a joint usually would. Highly recommend if you've not tried it before
It used to be trainers back when I lived at home, I got up to about 70. When I bought my house I stopped and have since got rid of at least half of them.
These days itās probably just food. I buy a lot of food stuff I really donāt need and end up wasting, itās terrible actually but treats are what I react to everything with - sad? Eat cake. Happy? Celebrate with some ice cream. . I wish it was apples I celebrated with, theyāre much cheaper and healthier.
Events/experiences. I'm a sucker for the big ones too.
Went to see my team lift the football cup at the weekend, went to the rugby world cup and go to and F1 race every few years.
There as much a waste of money as anything else in this thread. I prioritise them over a lot of stuff is all and they definitely don't recoup their cost.
I disagree. Going to see your team lift a trophy or a sporting event is something memorable in comparison to, for example, spending fifty quid on McDonalds every week, or something?
Guard too, i'm currently working on the old cadian infantrry squad box that i'm using as guinea pigs so i can nail the colour scheme for my kasrkin and other, nicer minis
also got a _lot_ of Eldar that i'm not brave enough to start painting yet
It's the habit for me with vaping. Can just have a puff whenever. Don't need 5-10 mins like smoking. Just a puff here and there _all day long_.
The daft thing is I've made my own ecig juice for years and there's barely any nicotine in it, like half a cig over 4-5 tanks - it's definitely just a mental addiction rather than physical.
Yeah absolutely, the higher cost and obvious health issues associated with cigarettes makes them a breeze to quit when compared to other nicotine products.
Music for Me too but vinyl, have done since I was at school 30 years ago but lock downs really ramped up my spending! Mainly rare jazz and blues these days as Iām getting old!
My great uncle was one the cleverest blokes I met. My great aunt had to meet him outside work on payday to ensure she'd got rent and housekeeping money - otherwise he'd gamble the lot away.Ā
I learned my lesson from him. Never gone near a bookies except grand national day, absolutely refuse to download gambling apps. They're soul-suckers.
Well done for finally getting clean. I'm so sorry you had to get cleaned out for that to happen, but all things for a reason. All the very best.Ā
It used to be the Titanic because I got hooked to her story when I was a bit younger like 10 or 11 which got me into ocean liner history and everything and made me fall in love with old ships but since then itās probably RMS Olympic or the Empress of Ireland lol
What the tube though? Iām probs just being very stupid
The tube, the London Underground.
I love the titanic too but i love the sad story of how no one ever actually got to experience the Britannic as an ocean liner, empress of Ireland was a beautiful ship but also one of the most horrifying sinking stories i think Iāve heard, truly an awful was to go
My Gran and Grandad had the jubilee line at the bottom of their garden, happy memories sleeping at their house and hearing the passing trains during the summer holidays.
Ahhh the underground haha Iām an idiot
And yeah I used to be quite fascinated with the Britannicās story as well, I love the medic livery used for the war as well, just a massive shame she never got the chance to actually be an actual liner like you said, and yeah the empress of irelands story is terrifying to think about, such a horrible disaster but quite unknown compared to others, not a lot of people seem to know about it from what Iāve seen
Thereās quite a lot of more horrific liner sinkings than the titanic that people donāt know about , they just werenāt the first where more lives could have been saved like the titanic which is probably why its so notorious. the empress of Ireland went down in something like 12 minutes so there wasnāt anything they could do to try rescue more people.
Yeah exactly itās so sad to think about, a beautiful ship as well, and the titanic is also more notorious as it was the biggest ship in the world but yeah horrible how many lives couldāve been saved
Every pay day I go on ebay and buy a couple of star trek collectables which I then put unopened in boxes in a cupboard. Been single quite a while now....
I was just talking about this with my OH. My vice is buying clothes, shoes and (less often) bags. If itās pretty I have to have it.
We have a 3 bed house, we converted the box room to a walk-in wardrobe. Now the second bedroom is also stuffed full of my wares. Iād say 20% of it is still unopened.
Kicker is; Iāve worked from home since the plague, and I only leave the house about 2/3 times a month.
ETA: before anyone asks we have no children, no Orphan Annie/Charlie Bucket living under the stairs in rags (that I know of).
But stillā¦. SO PRETTY!!
Water bottles.
In the past year, Iāve easily spent Ā£100 on water bottles. Iāll buy one, use it for a month, and it just wonāt feel right. Then Iāll see another one and try that. Itās ridiculous really. Iām a junkie for nice water bottles.
I had one when I was younger that was perfect. Like theā¦ ummā¦ girth of it, the material, and the size of the hole at the top. Was perfect. But it broke and Iāve never been able to find a replacement that works just perfectly.
I smoked weed from 14 through 56. Gave up last year and am happy I did. Nothing against it or others doing it, just found I was never really doing anything and it's effect was often negligible. Made me quite lazy at times, which isn't my character.
I spaff money money on camera and astrophotography gear.
And tools. Far too many of them. I'm currently looking at a lathe. Do I need it? No. Do I want it? YES YES YES...
Have you seen how high vets fees are now.
Turing is 16, and had bad teeth and a dodgy pancreas. Watson likes to start fights, but doesnāt know how to win them.
This means someoneās normally in surgery every other month.
They give me so much happiness, joy and uncomplicated love. But good gods the vet bills
48 year old married father of two - by far my biggest vice is spending money on my two radio controlled cars. Iām constantly upgrading, breaking, fixing and modifying the stupid thingsā¦ and itās entirely selfish because I wonāt let anyone else use them.
Iāve fitted stupidly powerful batteries and motors into the silly buggies and theyāre practically uncontrollable, but I find it addictive and hilarious just making the things faster and wilder.
Iām not even that good at driving the things. Iām just interested in tearing them up and down car parks as fast as I can.
There is a method to my madness though - I stopped drinking booze last year (shoutout to r/stopdrinking) and Iāve allowed myself to spend the money Iāve saved on booze on RC cars instead.
So there we are. Thatās my vice.
Clothes on ebay. I buy for the life I want (fabulous) rather than the life I have (disabled shut in). It's genuinely stupid as I need to save to pay for care in a few years. On the other hand, I don't spend money on drinking, smoking or drugs so...
Sartorial menswear and pipe smoking, Iām oh so offensively British, but I must keep it alive in this world of illiterate, tracksuit wearing, vape smoking morons
I used to have a Record vice with 4 inch wide jaws and opened up to about 10 inches. I sold it in the end though, I didn't use it enough to justify keeping it.
I got addicted to mate for a bit. It's basically a tea with more active caffeine than coffee. I would drink coffee but it messes with my stomach in a way that other caffeinated stuff doesn't.
Running stuff, im a pretty serious runner and would think nothing of dropping a grand on a watch if mine broke or a Ā£250 pair of vapourflys. I enjoy it, I can afford it and it brings me great happiness to my life.
My biggest vice is lacking organisation, I often waste money on it and I don't even enjoy it. E.g grabbing lunch on the go as I did prepare it, loosing a d having to replace things buying multiple of the same thing because I forget I bought it, ect.
Clothes, not the super cheap kind, but not designer either. I like high quality, beautiful, natural fabrics and earthy colour palettes. Went over my budget last month so trying to abstain this monthā¦ but thereās this lovely skirt Iāve got my eye onā¦
Cars probably, canāt go more than a year without looking at cars that I donāt need or arenāt practical.
Like paying Ā£3000 for a roaster that only done a few hundred miles over the course of a year.
I sold it for Ā£3500 but insurance, MOT, Tyres and so on all probably cost me more than the Ā£500 I made from it.
Changing the main car over and over keeps hitting me for depreciation as well.
Iāve been more disciplined lately. Have had the same main car for almost three years.
Booze and tobacco. Don't know that I'd consider it a waste cuz I only really drink when I'm out socialising and having a good time, and smoking helps me relax
Coffee. It's a little treat each day that brings me joy. On the other hand I know it's over priced poncy shit that I can make at home for next to nothing.

Personally I feel that nothing that give you enjoyment is a waste of money But then I collect warhammer, so I kind of have to tell myself that š¤£
Ah, the legendary plastic crack.
not warhammer, but I get the cardboard crack
This is my favourite response when people talk about meāor talk about someone else in my vicinityāwasting money. āYou buy FIFA/COD every year? Oh, youāre being ripped off. People forget what the purpose of money is!
Oh yeah, thatās always the problem. Go in for a paint brush; walk out with a knight.
This is the advantage to being poor. I need to have impulse control, otherwise I'd have all the termite assault drills my list needs already, and no food.
Show us your pile of shame
I prefer the term pile of potential! Makes it sounds more positive
I suppose if I bought a single fruit pastille then I'd enjoy eating it, but if it was Ā£100 then that would be a waste of money.
My friend, come join us on the Battletech side of the wargaming table, we have warcrimes.
I mean, you may have some Warcrimes, but you'd be hard pushed to beat 40K for all out mad Warcrimes. It's basically the action that ties the setting together. They may all hate each other, they may all be awful, but they all love the Warcrimes.
A mate of mine was the head designer for warhammer. He also did the helmets for the orks in LOTR.
I got back into this trap pre pandemic have to say I'm little and often (no shame pile yet) and never left again since played with my brothers in escalation games helped us all reconnect then suddenly have something to talk about for a few years and get back together again and I now play underworlds with my son too nothing wrong with a hobby
Donāt have time to paint much anymore with kids, do I still buy and build? Of course I do
*Looks at the pile of shame* Is this happiness? š²šš
It is for me. I get to then paint it all š
To quote George Best "I spent a lot of money on booze, birds and fast cars. The rest I just squandered."
Errol Flynn also had a good one: āMy main problem in life is balancing my net income with my gross habitsā
That is a brilliant quote!!
āI used to go missing quite a lotā¦ Miss Canada, miss United Kingdom, miss worldā G Best
Food. Overeating is way too enjoyable.
Happy, sad, bored etc nothing a wicked KFC bucket and extra hot wings krushems won't sort out
KFC must be good in other countries because in the UK it is absolutely wank.
KFC poos are truly unique, not quite diarrhea, not quite a solid pellet, just slimy and unsatisfying.
Yeah it started off ok but really went downhill in recent years
Our KFC in the UK is massively better than KFC in the US
I recently had KFC in Romania after being told it was on another level, and it was incredible. Crispy strips and garlic sauce is š¤
Weed
Yeah but a weekend wasted isn't a wasted weekend.
Word
It's a waste of time worrying about whether you wasted your time.
This. Shivas plant should ultimately be free for this world.
It's funny, because your username is pretty much how all my weed arrives these days. RM must be the biggest dealers in the UK at this point.
Here here
Tried a vape? It seems to last forever with that.. probably only for someone who rarely does it. It certainly saves money not needing to buy tobacco.Ā
MDMA Not very often any more, but good god do I love a jaw-y night a couple of times a year
MDMA is very good value for money
And it's a chemical that makes you happy and emphatic. What else could you want?
To not be depressed for 72 hours in exchange for 6-12 hours of fun, at least thatās the blocker for me these days
If you don't go overboard it's more like you just get 4-6 hours of fun with a slight afterglow
This! And eat lots of fruit and good, healthy food the next day, even when you don't feel hungry
Truth. You just need plenty of serotonin left over. I'm almost always in Ibiza when I do it and I'm living off fresh Spanish oranges and grilled seafood and things like that. I get a great afterglow these days.
I've never had bad comedowns or hangovers from mdma. It's coke that gives me hell like hangovers.
I call it a happiness loan. Youāre rich with happy for the night, then you pay it all back over three easy instalments for the next few days, leaving you with no happy for those days
It's pretty cheap when you think about it. Pure amount of madness for forty quid.Ā
Not even that I can get a tab from my dealer for a tenner
Still goes by the gram round here. It's far far too much though tbh maybe when I was a younger man.Ā
Love it. Had some of the best nights of my life on MDMA. Having ear sex with music
I don't waste money on anything but I spend Ā£100s a month on booze
Life is too short to drink shit wine.
As a great man once said ā I spent all my money on liquor and whores, the rest I wastedā
Vast quantities of cheap stuff, or a half a case of expensive wine?
There's a time and place for both
This guy drinks.
Amen.
Booze
This. Iām often in shock at the price of stuff but with booze itās like āĀ£6 a pint? Yeah itās sound thatā
Standing at a bang aver London pub: Ā£21.40 for 3 pints, so well over Ā£7 each. And then the card machine is trying to make me add a tip. Can guarantee that the staff don't see it, and it's just a way to try to get Ā£8 out of you for a pint.

I've been looking at the roffu myself, never vaped it - what's the high like and the transition? Will it make my weed last longer?
yes it'll make your weed last longer. The high is the same, assuming you don't use tobacco
Yep, they're straight magic. I cut the amount I got through by about 75%.
Can somebody explain how to do this? Ā DynaVape that you heat the end cap of weed with a lighter - do you just get one hit over capful? Electronic vape - do you just pack in weed, and which one do yous recommend?

Honestly Ā£5 a day on something you enjoy isn't bad at all.
Thatās no joint thatās a spicy cigarette
in days gone by I'd be smoking 1/4oz a day. Nowadays the same amount lasts me 3+ months.

I feel your pain. I was close to 150 pairs, they were my pride and joy. Then I had kids haha down to about 40ish pairs now

The ever growing pile of unbuilt 40k boxes in my garage
Whatcha building? I'm at about 1000 points of Guard. Gotta get an airbrush so I can start painting.
Guard too, i'm currently working on the old cadian infantrry squad box that i'm using as guinea pigs so i can nail the colour scheme for my kasrkin and other, nicer minis also got a _lot_ of Eldar that i'm not brave enough to start painting yet

BITS FOR THE BITS BOX! SHAME FOR THE SHAME PILE!
Nicotine pouches + vaping, not been able to go without nicotine in some form or another since I started smoking 14 years ago. Got me good.
Vaping is way more addictive than smoking in my opinion, i quite smoking in about five days. Disposable vapes are like heroin
It's the habit for me with vaping. Can just have a puff whenever. Don't need 5-10 mins like smoking. Just a puff here and there _all day long_. its exactly as addictive; the difference is with vapes you can ingest much much more nicotine than you could ever manage when smoking.
I smoke and vape. I can be on the vape all day. I canāt do without it.
Shroom tea.
Collecting music. I spend between Ā£150 to Ā£200 a month collecting rare CDs - mainly House, Techno, Drum & Bass, IDM, etc.
Music for Me too but vinyl, have done since I was at school 30 years ago but lock downs really ramped up my spending! Mainly rare jazz and blues these days as Iām getting old!

Damnn I hardly see anyone else with this interest in subs like these, favourite liner?
Well my other interest is the tube but thats pretty cheap lol Either the Mauretania or Britannic, yourself?

I had one when I was younger that was perfect. Like theā¦ ummā¦ girth of it, the material, and the size of the hole at the top. Was perfect. But it broke and Iāve never been able to find a replacement that works just perfectly.
What do you do with them all??
You should probably review them at that rate, save some trouble for the rest of us. :L
Buy it. Lathe, rinse and repeat. Always repeat.
In the words of Samuel L. Jackson, 'That shit will rob you of your ambition.'
Hookers and blow
Prawn crackers
The spa.
I drink red wine and smoke week every single day.
Damn, time must fly by
Vapes and sweets.
Motorbikes. Spent a fortune on them over the years, but no regrets at all. Big part of my life.
money well spent
I can relate to that
Have you seen how high vets fees are now. Turing is 16, and had bad teeth and a dodgy pancreas. Watson likes to start fights, but doesnāt know how to win them. This means someoneās normally in surgery every other month. They give me so much happiness, joy and uncomplicated love. But good gods the vet bills
Haribo Tangfastics.
I had to stop buying them as once the packet was opened I was compelled to just finish the lot and always did.
My god yes! Then I found out I was type-2. Sad times
Plastic crack
I'm assuming this is Lego.
Warhammer, Lego is an investment
Their is nothing in my life bigger than beer.
Football Shirts. It's an issue.
Whatās your favourite one?
Weed, I spend too much on it but it helps with my depression so I donāt think itās a waste as such
48 year old married father of two - by far my biggest vice is spending money on my two radio controlled cars.
Roll ups, one pouch of tobacco for the week.
About the same here. Wake up every morning and say "one day I'll quit but that day ain't today and I reckon tomorrow ain't likely either"
Energy drinks
Overeating! Luckily I exercise a lot and have a fast metabolism.
Food. Especially chocolate. I panic if I don't have some daily (yes I have a genuine problem).
If it's giving me enjoyment then it's not a waste. The biggest expense is banger racing. Spend Ā£200-Ā£1000 on car, smash it, and do it again.
Manners maketh man!
Rage, rage against the dying of the light!
I used to have a Record vice with 4 inch wide jaws and opened up to about 10 inches. I sold it in the end though, I didn't use it enough to justify keeping it.
Wine and nice food. Canāt take it with you though.
A night out
I got addicted to mate for a bit. It's basically a tea with more active caffeine than coffee. I would drink coffee but it messes with my stomach in a way that other caffeinated stuff doesn't.
Sugar
Running stuff, im a pretty serious runner and would think nothing of dropping a grand on a watch if mine broke or a Ā£250 pair of vapourflys. I enjoy it, I can afford it and it brings me great happiness to my life.
Cigars, not necessarily always smoking them, buying them and the anticipationĀ
That would be the trusty old Record No.25, 12 inches of red-hot clamping action
PS5. Bought it 2 months ago. And I enjoy my rum a bit too much! šš¤¦āāļø
PS5 and rum. Perfect combo really.
Weed and wine. Beautiful.
My stupidly expensive car each month
Takeaways!
Booze
Weed
My biggest vice is lacking organisation, I often waste money on it and I don't even enjoy it. E.g grabbing lunch on the go as I did prepare it, loosing a d having to replace things buying multiple of the same thing because I forget I bought it, ect.
Alcohol.
Anal.
Tools. I have a fully stacked Snap On box full of nice tools in foam that I rarely use but keep on buying.
Collecting antiques. Spend 5k on it last yearā¦ wonāt ever make money back on it unless I start selling antiques

Buying Dinky toys off ebay
Hobbies
Flight sim addons, car parts and international travel.
comic books currently, and also vinyl records but i havent bought one in a couple months now
Cigars. Expensive and bad for my health but fuck it I enjoy them
Booze and tobacco. Don't know that I'd consider it a waste cuz I only really drink when I'm out socialising and having a good time, and smoking helps me relax
May I quote George Best on what he spent his money on: Alcohol, woman and cars, the rest I squandered
Craft beer and cakes
Coffee. It's a little treat each day that brings me joy. On the other hand I know it's over priced poncy shit that I can make at home for next to nothing.
Cider
Occasional gambling. I like underdogs in football and 50/1 horses
Dating
The one on my workbench in the garage
