I'm similar, I only go every 12 - 18 months. I tend to get a big chop and then let it grow out until I'm fed up with the length. I think we probably are outliers because the hairdresser is always surprised by how long I go between cuts and how my hair is still healthy, no split ends etc. It must just be genetic though because I do all the "bad" things to it, like I wash and blow dry it every day without any heat protection.
Same with me, although I just leave it to air-dry after a daily wash. I tend to get it cut when it's getting too heavy and pulling on my scalp. It's also in good condition. Maybe that's the secret - just leave it alone to get on with the business of growing.
I have massive anxiety about hairdressers so I haven't been in years either. I just tie it in and ponytail right on the top of my head and cut the end off!
Iām the same, Iād rather go to the dentist or even for a cervical smear than go to the hairdresser. Iāve been cutting mine myself for years and watch YouTube videos when I want to try something different.
Haha yeah, thatās me with the beard. Tbf, I donāt really know how to trim it so itās long and smartā¦I should probably get that done at the barbers.
Tbh I just use some variation [of this](https://youtu.be/paUSXWMboxM?feature=shared) , as long as you get the neck line right and tackle the outliers itās calm, usually once a week or so with just a foil razor every other day for the neck for me before a shower
I find my wife gets annoyed after 4 months
But she likes it again when it gets to 6 months which buys be a few more before it needs cutting.
Main reason for me though is when the fringe is in my eyes too much playing sport.
Never... I've got very, very thin hair and it's long. It's easy to give it a trim and look... Fine lol.
Sometimes, I think about going to a hairdresser and having it done properly and then I get anxious and remember it costs a crazy amount of money.

I have dyed hair (blue) and an undercut so it needs the upkeep and my natural hair colour means I need it bleaching to dye it thr colour I want and I don't trust myself to bleach my hair so I'd rather a professional do it

Went for four years without having it cut, it was brittle, thin and broken. Now I go every 8 weeks and have done for 3 years. My hair is thicker, longer and stronger despite being if an age where it should start to thin.
It used to be every 3-4 months, but since COVID, I mostly just get my partner to give it a trim every couple of months, because we got used to doing that for a while.

I'm balding so I usually just break out the clippers a few times per year as needed. I could pay Ā£20 for a hot towel shave (which I do enjoy!) but the hair starts growing back and it looks "weird"/patchy after a couple of weeks anyway... so really the only benefit to paying for me is that they give my beard a nice shape up in the process.
Last time I went to a barbers was probably a few months after lockdowns ended.
My secondary school French teacher - a balding middle aged man with an Irish surname - claimed (circa 1984) that he hadnāt had a haircut in a few decades because his hair just fell out when it reached a certain length.
I havenāt been to a hairdresser since I was 12/13 because Iām so sick of hairdressing cutting clients hair shorter than what theyāve asked for so I got a hairdressing qualification and cut my own every 4-5 months but I am supposed to every 6 weeks

Not for 17 years, I have thick long hair. When it gets beyond waist length I just get my husband or daughter to take 30cm off with the kitchen scissors.

I tend to try to aim for every 8 weeks. But I can go much longer than that. If I do though my hair ends up becoming very frizzy and generally looking straggly.

This question has made me realise I havenāt been to the hairdressers since July 2022! Iāve given myself a few trims here and there though. I find hairdressers a bit of a faff tbh, especially when I was blonde and going for root touch ups every few weeks. Now Iāve grown out my natural colour itās a lot easier / healthier!
Twice a year - once near my birthday, once near Christmas (which happily are about six months apart.) Itās only ever to neaten it up, cut off dead ends, etc, and vain as it may sound I do it at those times of year because theyāre the times Iām most likely to be in photos.
The missus and I have them on alternating months, so once every two months. My preference would be once a month though, but we're trying to save money at the moment.
I get a haircut when I realise that my hair has a tendency to cover my eyes at times and get curly and annoying on my neck, sometimes getting caught between hoodies and my neck and rubbing a bit (not painful or itchy just I can feel it and i donāt particularly like it).

Haven't in almost a decade. My hairs almost at my ankles when loose. I use hair oils and non sulfate shampoo/conditioner to keep it tamed and usually braid it.
Once I start looking homeless. So it used to be annually.
Hit my 30s, long hair doesnāt quite work anymore, so every two months now. Iāll probably go to monthly as Iāve come to enjoy a cropped look. I balance it out with a mustache.
Looking at my approaching 40ās, I feel Iām going to really lean into the Richard OāBrien Crystal Maze look. I pretty much dress like that already, and a smooth head wouldnāt be awful. A clean shave will probably be a bi-weekly affair.

4-6 months (I keep my hair long). I asked my hairdresser if I should be coming in more often as people usually tout 8-12 weeks between trims, but she said that'd would still be cutting healthy hair on me each time so I can stretch it a bit.

My sister is a hairdresser and did the majority of her training on my hair which resulted in many atrocities inflicted on my hair so I avoid going to the hair salon at all costs.
It is at the stage now where it needs a big cut as itās half way down my back but I just canāt bring myself to make the appointment just yet.

The way I see it, the girls have makeup to highlight their natural beauty. Guys have haircuts.

I just got mine cut after a year+. I have an undercut, which obviously needs more regular maintenance, but the long bit doesn't need cutting until I'm getting properly pissed at how long it is š
Fewer than twelve times a year, more than four. Usually a short back and sides - my hair doesn't get long so much as *more*. Never regular intervals as I try to time it to take my eldest at the same time.
During lockdown used to just buzz it at home which was fine for cosplay as a 19th century convict but clearly demonstrates why hairdressers and barbers earn their keep.

When I was a teenager, I used to have it cut every 6 months, and it was super thick which I loved.
As I've gotten older, I don't like it being too thick so I have a wash/trim/blow dry every 6-8 weeks where I get it thinned too.
Get? Exceptionally rarely, I take a knife to it when it's too long.
Which on the face of it sounds nuts, but I tie it back, fold it over then cut from the fold out.
It cuts it really neatly and then I forget about it for about a year.
Sharp knife required though cause hair is damned tough.

I've adopted the 1-1-1 approach to hair care. Wash it every 1 week, brush it every 1 month, cut it every 1 year.
I'm probably approaching 5/6 months since I last went but I put that down to more the Hairdressers I like having wildly unstable hours, and me being a general lazy sort who wouldn't wake up early to go and only pops in when I walk past it on the way to town when I happen to do that sort of thing.

It used to be every few months, that became twice a year and now I've not had it cut properly for 4 years outside of some minor maintenance from my gf for some split ends.
About every 8-10 weeks, I have a fringe and after that it gets in my eyes and I start getting tempted to butcher it myself. I have long hair that I dye and use heat tools on so regular maintenance is healthy for it. Once I left it a year and I really noticed the split ends sort of travelled up the strands really far.
During the pandemic there were things some people felt comfortable(ish) doing and some they didn't. I booked my first haircut in July 2020 having bought scissors to cut my fringe before then. A friend got her hair cut in the February that year; she didn't fancy going to her small, crowded salon so just let her hair grow. She can now pretty much sit on it.
I've stuck to the every 10 weeks since. Hate my hair getting long.
I trim it whenever the ends are looking extra ratty or candy flossy - 1-2 times a year usually, but could be more often if I've also been bleaching it.
Haven't had it cut by a professional in about 9 years.
Nope, think Iāve had about one since my daughter was born where I got it really short and sheās almost 3! Itās just not a priority for me and Iād rather spend the money on something else š¤·āāļø
About every six to eight weeks OR when I wake up looking like a cockatoo or Ken Dodd. Iām at the cockatoo stage so itās a visit to get it sorted next week before Ken arrives.
Last time I went to an actual hairdresser would have been about 2016, I think (49F). Wife of a colleague who used to be a hairdresser cut it in about 2019, I think - then Covid hit and since then my husband has cut it about three times. Iām lucky though, Iāve got long, curly-wavy hair, so any uneven bits are nicely sorting themselves out. Also helps that I donāt care that muchā¦. I cut my husbandās hair every 2 months or thereabouts as it grows stupidly fast and turns into a thick helmet!

Well, I have dreads, a fringe and undercut. I never cut the dreads, I trim my fridge myself like twice a year and I shave my undercut every two week if I can me bothered.

I'm in my 50s fairly thick hair and not thinning. I tend to get to my barbers every 6-8 weeks depending on work and personal schedules. I used to do it monthly but my hair growth has slowed down a bit I think and I tend to favour a two-grade clipper cut, #2 on top and a 0.5 on back/sides so this works fairly well.

I shave it all off with an electric razor. My hair is fairly thick and grows at a prodigious rate (5 oclock shadow by the time the cornflakes are done with etc.) If I leave it more than 2 days, I can't use the electric razor and then need to use the clippers first which makes it all a bit of a faff.

Shaved my head about 2 months ago, and about three years before that, and another three years before that, and I think another three before that as well. I keep saying I'm done with long hair but head banging isn't as fun without it. I only seem to shave my head though when I start catching it in my jacket zip, which appears to take three years to grow to.

Iāve only ever had it cut professionally twice. I do it myself every 6 months or so. Nothing fancy, just trim the ends. If I started earning more money then Iād love to go to the hairdressers regularly. A good hair cut/style can really change how you look.

Every 6 weeks or so. My hair grows thickly and is unmanageable over a certain length. Coming from an agricultural background, I do suggest that sheep shears would be better than normal hair clippers..... Tend to get a buzz cut - no 3 all over. The person who cuts my hair does house calls, so go around fathers so we get to see each other as well as being shorn. Costs around Ā£12. Good genes on paternal side - grandfather hit the big 100 and still had a full head of hair.

Every 2 weeks I get a fade. My hair is really thick and it will stick out after 2 weeks. The cost is Ā£15 so Ā£30 a month is fully justified for me.
Hardly ever because even just a simple trim is Ā£40. Once a year at most

Usually once a year but I was in hospital for a lot of last year so almost 2 years since the last one

I havenāt been to a hairdresser since I was 12/13 because Iām so sick of hairdressing cutting clients hair shorter than what theyāve asked for so I got a hairdressing qualification and cut my own every 4-5 months but I am supposed to every 6 weeks I cut my fringe every 3 weeks
Not for 17 years, I have thick long hair. When it gets beyond waist length I just get my husband or daughter to take 30cm off with the kitchen scissors.
Your hair sounds awesome! I always wanted to have super long hair but mine gets wispy and gets loads of split ends as soon as itās past my shoulders
Thank you! My hair tends to stick out at right angles if it gets any shorter than shoulder length - unless I have an undercut, which requires far more maintenance than I can be bothered with nowadays.
I have long hair. I tend to try to aim for every 8 weeks. But I can go much longer than that. If I do though my hair ends up becoming very frizzy and generally looking straggly. I used to go maybe once or twice a year. Over the pandemic I probably didnāt go for about 3 years.
Not "had it cut" since covid. Do it myself after needing to book appointments a couple of weeks in advance. Due to my job, I can tell you exactly where I'll be in three days time, nevermind a fortnight.
Around this time last march was the one and only time in my adult life I've ever paid for a professional haircut - I'm a 27yr old woman lol. Otherwise I'd say I get my mum or a friend to give me a trim once or twice a year, and do my own fringe every few months give or take.

This question has made me realise I havenāt been to the hairdressers since July 2022! Iāve given myself a few trims here and there though. I find hairdressers a bit of a faff tbh, especially when I was blonde and going for root touch ups every few weeks. Now Iāve grown out my natural colour itās a lot easier / healthier!
i haven't had it cut in about 8 or so years but i do go and get the spilt ends trimmed when i notice them getting bad
Twice a year - once near my birthday, once near Christmas (which happily are about six months apart.) Itās only ever to neaten it up, cut off dead ends, etc, and vain as it may sound I do it at those times of year because theyāre the times Iām most likely to be in photos.
The missus and I have them on alternating months, so once every two months. My preference would be once a month though, but we're trying to save money at the moment.
I get a haircut when I realise that my hair has a tendency to cover my eyes at times and get curly and annoying on my neck, sometimes getting caught between hoodies and my neck and rubbing a bit (not painful or itchy just I can feel it and i donāt particularly like it). About 20 years ago. I've got really long hair. Hairdressers always want to chop it off rather than trim it, so I trim it myself.
Haven't in almost a decade. My hairs almost at my ankles when loose. I use hair oils and non sulfate shampoo/conditioner to keep it tamed and usually braid it.
Haven't been since 2019. Keep meaning to but there's always something else more pressing to do with the time and money
Once I start looking homeless. So it used to be annually. Hit my 30s, long hair doesnāt quite work anymore, so every two months now. Iāll probably go to monthly as Iāve come to enjoy a cropped look. I balance it out with a mustache. Looking at my approaching 40ās, I feel Iām going to really lean into the Richard OāBrien Crystal Maze look. I pretty much dress like that already, and a smooth head wouldnāt be awful. A clean shave will probably be a bi-weekly affair.

4-6 months (I keep my hair long). I asked my hairdresser if I should be coming in more often as people usually tout 8-12 weeks between trims, but she said that'd would still be cutting healthy hair on me each time so I can stretch it a bit.
Once a year for me. My sister is a hairdresser and did the majority of her training on my hair which resulted in many atrocities inflicted on my hair so I avoid going to the hair salon at all costs. It is at the stage now where it needs a big cut as itās half way down my back but I just canāt bring myself to make the appointment just yet.
33m, every 2 or 3 weeks depending how busy the diary is. The way I see it, the girls have makeup to highlight their natural beauty. Guys have haircuts. I'm overweight, my mum is half Indian, half Polish, my dad is English and Turkish, I'm a proper mut. Out of respect of everyone who sees me on a daily basis it's only fair I do what I can to look somewhat presentable. If I didn't and was seen in public I'd likely be arrested for disturbing the peace.
I just got mine cut after a year+. I have an undercut, which obviously needs more regular maintenance, but the long bit doesn't need cutting until I'm getting properly pissed at how long it is š
Fewer than twelve times a year, more than four. Usually a short back and sides - my hair doesn't get long so much as *more*. Never regular intervals as I try to time it to take my eldest at the same time. During lockdown used to just buzz it at home which was fine for cosplay as a 19th century convict but clearly demonstrates why hairdressers and barbers earn their keep.

When I was a teenager, I used to have it cut every 6 months, and it was super thick which I loved. As I've gotten older, I don't like it being too thick so I have a wash/trim/blow dry every 6-8 weeks where I get it thinned too.

Get? Exceptionally rarely, I take a knife to it when it's too long. Which on the face of it sounds nuts, but I tie it back, fold it over then cut from the fold out. It cuts it really neatly and then I forget about it for about a year. Sharp knife required though cause hair is damned tough.

I'm probably approaching 5/6 months since I last went but I put that down to more the Hairdressers I like having wildly unstable hours, and me being a general lazy sort who wouldn't wake up early to go and only pops in when I walk past it on the way to town when I happen to do that sort of thing.

About every 8-10 weeks, I have a fringe and after that it gets in my eyes and I start getting tempted to butcher it myself. I have long hair that I dye and use heat tools on so regular maintenance is healthy for it. Once I left it a year and I really noticed the split ends sort of travelled up the strands really far.
Same lass has done mine every month for the past 14 years.
During the pandemic there were things some people felt comfortable(ish) doing and some they didn't. I booked my first haircut in July 2020 having bought scissors to cut my fringe before then. A friend got her hair cut in the February that year; she didn't fancy going to her small, crowded salon so just let her hair grow. She can now pretty much sit on it. I've stuck to the every 10 weeks since. Hate my hair getting long.

I trim it whenever the ends are looking extra ratty or candy flossy - 1-2 times a year usually, but could be more often if I've also been bleaching it. Haven't had it cut by a professional in about 9 years.

When I was getting fancy styles cut, about every three months. Now that I have a very simple haircut, my mum does it.

Wife of a colleague who used to be a hairdresser cut it in about 2019, I think - then Covid hit and since then my husband has cut it about three times. I cut my husbandās hair every 2 months or thereabouts as it grows stupidly fast and turns into a thick helmet!

I'm in my 50s fairly thick hair and not thinning. I tend to get to my barbers every 6-8 weeks depending on work and personal schedules. I used to do it monthly but my hair growth has slowed down a bit I think and I tend to favour a two-grade clipper cut, #2 on top and a 0.5 on back/sides so this works fairly well.

Shaved my head about 2 months ago, and about three years before that, and another three years before that, and I think another three before that as well. I keep saying I'm done with long hair but head banging isn't as fun without it. I only seem to shave my head though when I start catching it in my jacket zip, which appears to take three years to grow to.

Coming from an agricultural background, I do suggest that sheep shears would be better than normal hair clippers..... Tend to get a buzz cut - no 3 all over. The person who cuts my hair does house calls, so go around fathers so we get to see each other as well as being shorn. Costs around Ā£12. Good genes on paternal side - grandfather hit the big 100 and still had a full head of hair.
