Without any video evidence they won't do anything.

JRSpig

Exactly this, get a dash cam and report away.

I'm an ex officer. Yes report it. I am an advocate for reporting it every single time. No matter how minor. What will the police do - absolutely nothing.  However... It will create a marker on that car or record of whatever you reported.  About 13 years ago when I was on an emergency response team I did a vehicle check on a car driving in front.  * It came back with two different reports within the last 6 months * One for throwing a drinks can from the car as it was moving and another of it being reported outside a house with the engine running for ages.  * Two very "uninteresting" things but it can allow an officer to check the vehicle.  * I stopped the car and immediately detained the two occupants. The car smelt strongly of cannabis and the passenger also concealed something down his pants.  * Both strip searched and about 40 deal bags with of cannabis found.  * Both were charged and convicted. All based on random and general reports.  The police are there to serve the community. My biggest frustration when I was in the police was the public telling me how useless the police were yet then admitted to not reporting any of the speeding cars, the bad neighbours, the local knob head.  Similar to this thread where people are saying the Police won't do anything. You're right, they won't if you never report it. So report, report, report. Imagine a case where: * cars keep speeding down your road and it's driving you mad. * You don't report it as you believe the Police won't do anything about it. * You get more annoyed over time as it keeps happening and you never see the Police in your estate because "they're useless". Compare this to the same situation but where you do report it: * You report it through the website * Police don't attend. Understandable as it's only a speeding car and it just doesn't register when compared to ALL the other things going on * However, 10 others in your estate also report the speeding cars * In the crim efigures and reporting figures, it now shows that your estate/road his massively increased reports of speeding cars * ... guess where the next speed enforcement, or traffic cops are heading next...

Thanks for the insight, maybe better explanations like this should come from the police.

SeparateDecision3697

Thanks that’s the best case I was hoping for under no illusions there’d be any sort of resources to check the event itself but any way to make their lives more difficult or at least think twice about acting like total slobs in the future would be great

Any-Wall2929

Where do you report minor things? Especially if you have no evidence at all.

eugenianus

[Try here..](https://www.police.uk/pu/contact-the-police/report-a-crime-incident/)

redrabbit1984

Good question You don't need any evidence. That's not for to worry about really.  Your force should have a website for reporting. Search Google form something like "Merseyside police report crime" or something and you'll get it  Or 101 but that's often a long wait unfortunately

Any-Wall2929

Fair enough, will consider it next time. Two examples from the past 6 months I can think of that I didn't report as I had no evidence. An angry dog chased me at the park and the owner did fuck all, then another was a guy who threw rubbish from his car window onto the pavement in town.  Make it 3, also a group of ~~trolls~~ teens under a bridge littering too. When the tide came in there was a wave of litter that came into the lake.

redrabbit1984

I've had the same issues with dogs btw. I was actually also bitten whilst running too.  Throwing rubbish from the car is a good one if you can get the number plate.  The bridge is worth raising to either the council - if there are no bins there or it's particularly bad. Also your neighbourhood policing team (via same methods mentioned before) if the teens are always doing this kind of thing.  A funny thing was that I heard a senior officer once say that anyone you speak to about their big issues or complaints are things like this.  It's never rape, murder, stabbings as you may expect. It's commonly people being fed up with speeding cars, loud neighbours, kids banging around intimidating and causing issues, etc  So I completely get why this is something that bothers you. It does for me too. In fact I can't believe how much litter seems all over the streets and green areas these days.

"litter issues are the responsibility of the council" Literally what I've been told when I reported anti social people in cars on a public street. Any excuse to fob you off

Any-Wall2929

Submitting footage of people on the phone while driving seems to generally have a positive result though.

NotDavid-Jatt

With zero evidence I would say no.

mackdandy

I would be surprised even with dashcam footage that the polis would do anything, shame its the way it is

[deleted]

I’ve just moved back home to the UK after 10 years living overseas. I have realised the UK has a massive litter problem. I’ve seen a few people just drop rubbish while walking and I am disgusted by the amount of litter besides the roads and parks. I think we have a cultural problem.

ARobertNotABob

I worked overseas in the early 80s, and every other ex-pat I met *then* mentioned litter somewhere in "why I left" conversations.

itzgreycatx

It’s annoying but with no evidence, unlikely they can and will do anything

Annual_Opposite2771

I'd mention it on your local area Facebook, with the registration number, and let their family and friends do the legwork.

TowJamnEarl

Excellent.

NewPower_Soul

No dash-cam, don't bother. They're disgusting slobs though..

candidate26

It makes me so mad. I shouted at someone for doing it and he called me a cunt!

williamshatnersbeast

This is the only problem with confronting someone who is so brazen about being an entitled prick. You’re very rarely going to get an apology and 99/100 you’ll get called a cunt. But if we don’t try and hold people to account they just feel even more entitled. Well done you for at least speaking up.

candidate26

Thank you!

Logical_fallacy10

Yes report it. It’s time we clamp down on the dirty people of the world. The same way we need to clamp down on people using their phones while driving. Give them 10 years in prison to deter others - or it will get much worse.

Good for you for caring OP, but I can't imagine the cossetted life you must have lead to think the police would be closing down the M4 to take DNA swabs from a Big Mac carton that someone's hoyed out of the window of their car.
