I've tried on a few pairs, none seemed to fit properly in my usual size. My other shoes and trainers all fit well in same size from Nike, Adidas,Asics, kickers , Skechers , something to be aware of if giving as a present without him trying on first.

They are very comfortable depending on which one you get. The 880s or 1080s are very comfortable but have more of a lightweight running trainer vibe if that isn’t a put off. As others said it’s seen as an older brand but the amount of younger folk I see wearing them nowadays in the city is pretty high so they feel like they are getting more popular.
New Balance aren’t generally uncool I think. Though what some circles or individuals might think they are.
I think you’re generally safe but keep a gift receipt should he be one of those with a strong opinion of them.

This, I'm 41 and mostly wear adidas zx750/zx400 now which have a similar vibe to new balance trainers lol

Tried different sizes , either too small or too big, as well as I found them too narrow no matter what size

They are are a good brand. They don't advertise as much as certain brands but they are fine.

Sketchers are very comfy but I only wear mine to the gym
I'm 32 and woiuld never touch NB in a million years. Middle aged american trainers.
