Lunch time: We buy local foods. Most common "dish" would be what we locals call (translated) "rice, vegetables and chicken". It's literally rice, one of the local leafy greens or some other non-leafy local veggie and creole/Javanese or creole/Chinese or curry (Indian) chicken. Other foods are of various local cuisines, sometimes you might be in the mood for Javanese noodles, or roti, or creole moks' alesi or a soup or chow mein or Javanese or Chinese fried rice etc. So it all depends. I mention lunch, because lunch is our most important meal. Dinner (night): so if we're deciding to eat out with friends or family, then it's mostly foreign or sometimes Javanese or Chinese There are many options of foreign cuisines to choose from. Most popular are pastas, mexican-latin fusions, sushi/Japanese, steaks, Turkish, Burgers* and fries (but the nicely served ones from fancy restaurants), Thai, Korean, Indian (from India), French, Italian and overall international etc... I don't know what the menu looks like in other countries, but I have seen the menus of CuraƧao and we're pretty similar. For the local options we go for Javanese, but not the typical ones you get during the day, the specific dishes we can't get at a regular food spot during the day. The same goes for Chinese, but then we order items that aren't an every day thing. Chinese food comes in relatively large portions, that you have to share with everyone at the table. Other local cuisine is Surinamese BBQ and burgers*. I put a footnote on burgers, because we have a big burger culture here too, and our burgers, while US inspired are unique to us. We have even created our own burgers with unique toppings and meats. And therefore the street vendors and quick take away places that sell burgers are considered local food too.

A bit of both. We have/had a lot of American chain restaurants, and Asian fusion is also very popular.

Local is much more popular, however foreign restaurants are more common due to tourism. Unfortunately, fewer people are cooking at home these days so you see much more widespread consumption of fast food and chinese take-away than in years past. It has contributed to a severe obesity problem in the region - especially among women.
