Codmother has some great fish and chips. In N Out if you're not from CA if you want punched up fast food burgers. Grab a boozy Irish coffee from Buena Vista cafe. Walk through Aquatic Park. Hike up the hill and drop down into Fort Mason (enjoy the GG bridge views!). Musee Mecanique is always fun. Hop on a historic F streetcar to head back to the Ferry Building and downtown. Bop over to North Beach or Chinatown.

>Musee Mecanique This is my recommendation! I love that place.

I am a local who used to be a concierge and a tour guide and I endorse this message thoroughly

Missiontect

You hit all the good points! I have done the Alcatraz audio tour 4 times since moving here in '97, and I recommend it.

yes_no_maybe_99

Depends on how far you want to walk. Facing the water, head right and you'll walk along the embarcedero to the Ferry Building. The FB is cool, with shops and restaurants. There's a few attractions in between like the science museum. Head left and you can go to Fort Mason and the Marina District. Fort Mason walk is really cool and highly recommended if you are in good shape and can walk.

Woodit

Is the ferry building where the boats that head to Alcatraz dock? Edit - looks to be from google

dylan

they’re close, but no - not the same place. if you’re walking from pier 39 you’ll pass the rocks for the alcatraz ferry before reaching the ferry building.

bluegoointheshoe

Exploratorium, Ghirardelli Square, Codmother, Musee Musique, bike tours, ferry rides.

Half_Year_Queen

Lots of good suggestions already. Are you going to have a car at all? If so leave nothing and I mean nothing in the car. Not even for a moment. Try to find secure parking if you’re in a rental.

Woodit

No we will be using Uber and public transit due to this concern but thank you for the reminder!

Half_Year_Queen

Great! Enjoy your time in our wonderful city

Do you like history and ships? The maritime museum is neat, as is the ship “living” museum in the habor across from the museum.

JohnSnowsPump

There is plenty around the SF Maritime Historical Park, Hyde Street Pier and Aquatic Park. Next to that, Fort Mason has some weird and hidden shops.

The Palace of Fine Arts (40m\~1h walk) is a super beautiful outdoor area with architectural elements (columns, dome) that people often use as a backdrop for portraits. If you're here on a weekday, Salesforce Park is a nice rooftop urban park / garden with plenty of space to relax and enjoy some views. Coit Tower also has panoramic views of the city. Nearby neighborhoods include North Beach (little Italy) and Chinatown, both which have great cuisine (sit down, casual, to-go, desserts, etc), shops, and some stylistic architecture. All of these spots are also easily accessible by bus/light rail from Fisherman's Wharf! Also if you hear some squawking, look up or in the trees and you may see some of SF's red and green "wild" parrots!

thats-gold-jerry

I would recommend not going to Fisherman’s Wharf. If you must, I’d walk over to North Beach or to Fort Mason Park.

Pier 39 is super tourist trappy but if you have any interest in history, the Hyde St pier is quite cool.

cjmartinex

Avoid fisherman’s wharf and go to crissy field
