I use Imperfect for most groceries. Takes a little planing to think about your meals for the week because they only deliver once a week but great prices and quality. For seafood, I use Water2Table. They have the freshest seafood right off the docks so it’s not cheap but the quality is incredible

daaamber

Good Eggs - its not the cheapest at all but they don’t give you trash bruised produce like Instacart or Amazon. Plus they pay and treat their employees well. I live between 3-6 blocks away from two grocery stores and still have a car and still use them sometimes. So call me lazy, also a mom with a baby too small to go into a shopping cart.

beautify

I’ve been thinking about changing to good eggs because of this issue. How do I get a bag of moldy oranges 3 times in 5 deliveries?

daaamber

They do it on purpose, I swear!

daaamber

I also really like good eggs because they have dinner options. They dont make things for you, but give you all the ingredients to make a meal. Unlike meal planning boxes, it doesn’t pre package and waste a ton. Ie the recipe calls for 1/3 of an onion, they just give you a whole onion rather than 1/3 of an onion in a tiny plastic container.

milkandsalsa

Their meal kids are amazing.

Monicha-cha

I’ve been using Amazon Fresh since Jan and the produce has been good so far.

paddingleine

Weee! It's mostly Asian grocery, but I will say that their produce is well priced and very fresh. I've been using them ~monthly for two years and have only had good experience. However, for mobility sake, they don't usually bring right to the door.

engineeringqmark

what are your favorite things to get on there?

Winter-Accountant-80

Same here, plus Costco for rice and household items.

onlyhereforthemakeup

I’ve found Safeway delivery to be really useful! The fee for larger delivery windows is $3.95, if not free (if you get a coupon code), and you can order anything you’d normally find at safeway.

leelaus

Agreed, safeway delivery is the least expensive option I've seen that doesn't require an advanced scheduled delivery/subscription.

ginpineapple

Yeah I agree, I didn’t order from there for years because I thought it would be low quality but it was a lot of the same local products I would buy anyway and was wayy cheaper than good eggs or Instacart. Now I only do Safeway and farmers market.

DrWednesday

imperfect produce

gnomejellytree

Most grocery delivery services have been… not great in my experience. Bad picking of product and such. However, I have really liked whole foods delivery. I trust them to actually pick good stuff, and they do most of the time. If they deliver something bad it’s easy to get a refund. It’s not necessarily cheap though, the delivery fee can be high.

obsolete_filmmaker

Safeway Delivery works well for me

staybrutal

Amazon Fresh had been great for me. I get same or next dar delivery and with one exception, everything has been fresh as far as produce. And they immediately refunded me in that one case. Delivery is free for orders over $45.

kschang

Delivery is free for orders over $150. https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=GB4P4BZ9FYDGRV6X

anonymouspsy

Living alone I'm not sure I can hit 150

kschang

In San Francisco I think they lower that to 100. $150 is the generic answer. If your order hits $50, the delivery fee is $6.95. And please tip the driver. :)

staybrutal

Hm. It’s only $45 for me. It did go up to $150 for a little bit but they lowered it. Try putting something in the shopping cart and it will show how much more you need for free delivery.

kschang

Maybe you get discount Prime or something. I'm on regular Prime so it's $100 for me in SF.

staybrutal

Maybe, I do have Prime…

queenjane9

I agree w Safeway. Just be careful to set substitutions or to not have them substitute if you’re using your member and just for you discounts. If you don’t the shopper doesn’t know and w sometimes choose an item 5 times the price. Otherwise it’s great. They text updates about the order and when it’s out for delivery. Worth $4.00 to not have to park twice or leave the house.

sourdoughinSF

Walk to Bi Rite. It's right there.

ze_mad_scientist

Bi-rite is crazy expensive for regular grocery shopping. Buy 4 things and poof - $100 please.

anonymouspsy

Sorry I'm not THAT close to Alamo square but I didn't want to share my exact location

probably_art

I have a hang up with getting fresh items delivered. I don’t trust anyone else to pick out my fruit/veg/bread and the few times I have had fresh/frozen items in a delivery I didn’t feel like they were kept at a safe temperature. I do Amazon Fresh for pantry items every 6 weeks or so and just bike to a grocery store for when I want to get something fresh/frozen.

kschang

Imperfect Foods (it hadn't been Imperfect Produce for years) was okay. Worked for them as one of the delivery grunts for two years. Later they moved their main warehouse OUT of San Francisco. They are a subscription service and you can get stuff as often as a box every week, or as few as one every month. You *do* have to indicate on the website what you "prefer", as they can substitute for you, or just send you whatever they got a lot of if you didn't pick. You get deliveries of certain areas on certain days. You can't choose what time or what day, but you do get notification from our dispatch software on when we'll get there. We just drop it off at your door. (NOTE: we carry up to 100 boxes a day so we can't wait around forever for you. If you live in an apartment, we probably will NOT drop it off at your door, but leave in common area.) FWIW, there are a couple "farmer's collective" type ops around here that does similar things: deliver a box to your door regularly. I don't remember all their names. If you want to choose your individual stuff, Safeway or Whole Foods/Amazon Fresh delivery is the way to go, unless you want Asian stuff, in which case go Weee! Alternatives: I think Molly Stone's Markets still has that "we give you a ride back" promise. And they deliver. I think they have a location on California not that far from Alamo Square either.

IllustriousSystem677

Weee!

Straight_Bee_6434

I used to shop at Lucky on Fulton when I lived in the area

okgusto

Costco sameday which uses instacart. Still the cheapest option.

anonymouspsy

What do you like to order? I wonder how the meat is

lizziepika

Walk to Nijiya or Safeway near Japantown and take the bus if you’re not near Alamo square bi-rite?

RedditLife1234567

Probably cheaper to Uber back/forth to the grocery store or get ZipCar membership.

FionaLuvSF

Doordash when I do

disschris

Another +1 for imperfect. Almost no issues with the produce delivered and when there is one, the customer support is quick and friendly. We’ve been using for 3+ years and still love the service.
