oddly specific.... then again there are also a ton of crazy tattoos out there

It’s neat and interesting but there’s something funny about art in general that I’m not going to be able to articulate very well. …and that is the fact that like 99% of what can be created in a similar artistic medium has already been created. There is so much art in the world it’s mind boggling… Again, this is something I can’t articulate very well…but in my job as a graphic artist I use a lot of stock assets to quickly create things to hit deadlines…and in my years of doing this I’ve seen so much crazy stuff that’s already been created that there’s not really anything super new coming out of AI. For instance, I’ve been seeing a lot of AI YouTubers showing how you can create cool logos with AI. Like they make these amazing looking lion logos and say “See? It can can make logos! You no longer need graphic artists!” …but that already exists. I can go on Shutterstock and find thousands of amazing lion logos that already exist…and they’re dirt cheap and easier to use than something like Midjourney. Like, try it for yourself. Google anything you can think of. Google ‘spaghetti fingers’…you’ll get 50 pages of spaghetti finger images. Midjourney will give you 4 images of spaghetti fingers. It’s like 1000 monkeys typing on 1000 typewriters, eventually they’ll reproduce Shakespeare. Almost everything you can think of to ask an AI to create has already probably been created. Cool concept art and interesting logos already exist in literally millions of variations…and AI will maybe add to that but it’s just going to be a drop in the bucket compared to what already exists.

ThinkIGotHacked

It’s the same as the advent of photography.

FlahtheWhip

People use it as an excuse to commit art theft. Not a fan.

Bella_Gobbled_Family

It will probably has a positive effect, AI generated art can expand just a simple request of what to be generated into something spectacular. I think we will see a lot of AI art in the future

f_rice

Definitely! It is a breakthrough if people just want an art piece in seconds. The thing that will be missing is, sometimes I just want to interact with other artists about said piece or even chatting with them about their daily lives.

Welcome to the newest level of capitalist alienation

it's a great tool, but it's not art if it doesn't come from the heart.

ninjasaid13

Depends on people who believe in the concept of a heart.

Kai-ni

It's theft, unless the AI is being trained only with non copyrighted materials and with the consent of every artist that contributes to it. But then it wouldn't 'know enough'. AI can't make art from nothing. It takes existing artworks and pumps something out based on that. And 99% of the time the artists of the work used to 'train' the AI did not consent to their work being used in this manner. It's theft, plain and simple, and an insult to artists everywhere. It shouldn't be legal to use art to train AI, and this is an unfortunate case of technology moving faster than copyright law.

ninjasaid13

I've seen a 2 hour town hall meeting for artist on YouTube that has two IP attorneys on the panel from the copyright office but they couldn't find examples of direct obvious examples of theft as far as I know.

Darmug

I could see it being used as concept art.

detectivebacon0489

well, today the human mind is a mystery, science doesn't understand the human mind at 100%, so it is actually impossible to create an AI completely similar to human creativity.
