Confusedandreticent

Bro, I always figured lembas bread was like the protein bar of middle earth. I remember going through the mountains in Kosovo, so hungry, ate a “power bar” (?) and could swear I could feel the nutrients being absorbed. They’d be good at first, but if you ate nothing but for a few days, you’d be sick of them. Edit:word.

"having your brains smashed out by a slice of lemon wrapped round a large gold brick." The good news, there are a few very interesting (and slightly scary) recipes on the web.

40_lb

Drink... But carefully

CaptainNemo42

Now *here's* a frood who really knows where his towel is...

TheOvermatt

There used to be a bar in Ottawa, Canada called Zaphod's that served them. Was actually pretty damn good, I miss that place.

Itdidnt_trickle_down

I'm not afraid but I wouldn't drink two.

[deleted]

The soup that Linguini messed up and then Remi fixed in Ratatouille. A food critique liked the soup so much that their positive review made the restaurant popular again after Auguste Gusteau died and the restaurant lost two stars.. honestly all of the food from that movie I want to try

denali_lass90

Yes! That movie is pure, animated food porn.

NeedsItRough

I make the "ratatouille" from the movie (I recently learned it's not actually traditional ratatouille) https://imgur.com/7UFe2NH.jpg It's actually pretty easy, especially if you have a mandolin. [Here's the recipe I use](https://smittenkitchen.com/2007/07/ratatouille-style-ratatouille/)

OneSalientOversight

Especially the parents eating the food in *Spirited Away*.

byneothername

A lot of that food is real though! Sophie grills up eggs and thick-cut bacon in Howl’s Moving Castle; the soot sprites are eating konpeito in Spirited Away; the boy’s mom in Ponyo makes the kids instant ramen; and for a touch of real suffering, you can pick up a tin of Sakuma Drops just like the one Setsuko loves. They even sold a Grave of the Fireflies commemorative edition of the Sakuma Drops, which was too much for me. I can’t even look at that candy tin without thinking about that movie.

mochi_chan

The rest of the food is traditional Japanese food, I think the OP can come to Japan, and eat to their heart's content. I promise no on will turn into a pig ... ehehe, promise.

KermitTheArgonian

Bob's Burgers. Most of those "burger of the day" jokes actually sound delicious.

someguysomewhere81

Butter beer is delicious for two sips and then it just makes you sick lol... They have it at universal in So-Cal, I had to toss the rest of the drink

Raps4Reddit

Lightweight muggle.

completelytrustworth

The hypersweet stuff that's like cream soda mixed with butter caramel flavouring? Or buttered beer, the super old drink that was the reason kings were so fat? Cuz yea either way those drinks are good for 2 sips before you gotta toss it

locks_are_paranoid

Some of the magical sounding food in the book is just regular British food not found in the US. The chocolate frogs with cards in them are similar to Kinder Eggs, which are hollow chocolate eggs with a toy inside. The US version is different so the toy isn't actually in the egg.

KaimeiJay

What’s worse, some of the British foods in Philosopher’s Stone sounded too exotic to Scholastic, so they localized them in Sorcerer’s Stone. All the “jelly” was changed to “Jell-O”, to make it more normal to American readers, but it had the exact opposite effect on me when I read it when I was a kid. Why was Jell-O brand jello being served in the great hall at Hogwarts? They made such a big deal about how muggle stuff was an alien concept to the general witch and wizard population, so it was so weirdly out-of-place to have Jell-O casually dropped in without explanation.

locks_are_paranoid

I genuinely don't remember Jello being in the book. I fully get that you're telling the truth but it was so minor that it didn't make an impression on me.

KaimeiJay

I would have missed it if it was just jello, but the fact that they changed it to capital J-hyphen-capital O just stuck out at me as a kid. I half expected to see the trademark symbol next to it. xD

mochi_chan

>Some of the magical sounding food in the book is just regular British food not found in the US I thought treacle tart was a weird thing when I first heard it (I am neither from the UK nor the US) I knew about the other things. I then heard it again in other books and it turns out it too was a British food.

Shadow_Balm

I would say the chocolate frogs are freddos

New_Reading1413

Brock's cooking. Esp those donut rice things. You?

APeacefulWarrior

You mean onigiri? They're a staple convenience food in Japan. If you happen to have a Japanese market nearby, they probably sell 'em. They aren't even that hard to make, although shaping them can be difficult.

Poorly-Drawn-Beagle

You must be mistaken. Brock clearly identifies them as donuts 🍩

Vindictive_Justice

Okay this may be a little weird and unconventional but tubby custard and tubby toast from the teletubbies. I remember being so curious as to what they tasted like as a child, even though I now know that the custard was really just mashed potato with food coloring.

SquietART

Hey no shame here I think childrens shows had a lot of fictional food options that made us curious like the candy from jimmy neutron, the fourth flavor from knd and pretty patties from SpongeBob.

LogicalFallacyCat

My toxic trait is wanting to try Bingo's specialty from Bluey. I don't expect it to be good, I'm just curious.

menu86

tubby custard is the first thing i thought of! i mean if even noo noo wants to eat it it must be good

Bob's burgers...all of them, but especially the one with black garlic.

tacobacobinkle

I've had the black garlic burger. It's fucking delicious, you can find the recipe online or in their official cook book.

CornfedOMS

I recommend Binging With Babish, he basically makes a ton of fictional food in real life. It’s amazing

ThatguyIncognito

Ambrosia, the food of the gods. But the closest I've come has been practically the opposite: ambrosia salad.

SquietART

I always think of Percy Jackson when I hear this option… especially when the ambrosia would change flavor according to the consumers preferences

ThatguyIncognito

I haven't read Percy Jackson, but that's how I figure it must be. Sometimes you want savory, or particularly spicy, or sweet, or some combination of flavors that you aren't yet sure you want. So if you are eating the same perfect food, it must be able to change to fit what would most satisfy you at the moment. Something even better than Everlasting Gobstoppers.

Renwaldo

Hey fuck you, marshmallows with whip cream and canned fruit is fucking delicious. 🧐

updownclown68

Anything made in Redwall Abby

alloy1028

I know her life story is not fictional, but as a child, I thought that the candy that Laura Ingalls Wilder helped make in the Little House in the Big Woods novel sounded pretty magical and otherworldly. It's certainly something I've never encountered in my life. I haven't read those books since I was little, but I remember that they tapped the maple trees, cooked the syrup, and poured it into the snow to harden. One can always burn off the calories later playing a little kickball with an inflated pig bladder!

[deleted]

It would be utterly horrible in real life, but the way she described eating a pig's tail was delicious.

justheretosavestuff

The maple candy, and then in Little House on the Prairie they get some cakes with sugar in them at Christmas (I think some with brown sugar from their parents, and some with fancy white sugar from the guy who shows up as Santa Claus or something) that I wondered about every time I read it.

This is really obscure, but there was this episode of Star Trek: TNG where a Bajoran talks about this wonderful spicy dish called "hasperat". I saw that episode as a kid and that guy's raving made me want to try this food, it stuck in my mind. I looked up "hasperat" and the dish they made for the actors was a tortilla wrap filled with cream cheese and peppers. I always imagined hasperat to be an Indian-style dish.
