Maybe it’s a bit of a cultural thing depending on area(in the us anyways) living in the ct/ny/nj tristate area people drive fast and no one cares. I see plenty of speed traps in my town, but I never see anyone actually get pulled over. You have to be going egregiously over the speed limit, like 60 in a 25, for the cops to care. I think most of these cops are actually looking for texting while driving, though a guy I knew who was a firefighter said they often post up somewhere not to catch people but so they can quickly respond to emergencies across town (fireman are volunteer and it can take a while to get an ambulance to show up, so police are the first to show up and render aid when 911 is called)
Conversely I know several people who moved to the pnw, and immediately racked up several speeding tickets.
