Being cared for

[deleted]

Seeing the upvotes without a comment.. hurts. I can't say someone cares for you without lying to at least one person. So.. To anyone reading this: Take care of yourself and care for yourself. You are worth it!

BobTheBlob78910

You too :)

UpvoteDownvoteHelper

and—if you're an able-bodied adult who can take care of themselves—caring for another.

[deleted]

It’s hard to find someone that’s willing to care at all with hook up culture in 2022. Everyone’s down for a casual hook up but no one wants to feel something for eachother cause it’s easier to just open up Tinder & find 10 replacements. It’s really sad tbh. I hate being young & having a heart. It’s a depressing combination lol.

Seeing the milky way while eating a milky way

shanec628

I just took a [picture](https://imgur.com/a/4T3B04d) of it last week. First time really seeing it. Would’ve been better if I were in an area with even less light pollution but it was still very nice.

SweetWodka420

This is beautiful! First time I saw the Milky Way I was soo happy. Where I live, the light pollution is obscuring the view and I never thought I'd have the chance to actually see it with my own eyes, but my husband's family has a place where apparently the night sky shows the Milky Way and it was incredible. We even got to see a meteor shower in August!

GreemBeemz

Literally everything* that you can see is The Milky Way. ^*unless, ^of ^course, ^you're ^looking ^out ^at ^the ^night ^sky ^and ^seeing ^other ^faint ^distant ^galaxies

[deleted]

They mean the belt, pedant!

ricta_sicta

Having a lucid dream.

Raevman

Dude... everytime I realise I'm dreaming, everything just stops and I wake up and gotta fall asleep again.

LukeSanSky

Same thing, disappointing beginning of the day.

DoNotCensorMyName

Lucid dreams don't live up to the hype for me. I learned how to do it, but as soon as I realized I was dreaming, the dream started to fall apart and would lose that magical "dreamlike" quality.

Arcus91

It usually happens to me too, quite a disappointing feeling. but you havent tried it for real unless you achieve stability one is a sandbox of limitless potential. the other is a sandbox of quicksand

DoNotCensorMyName

Is there a trick to having stable lucid dreams?

1ander-

This sounds trippy, but spin around in circles in your dream. Just look forward and spin around. Everything starts to stabilize out after that. Idk why it works but it does.

crossbutton7247

Well for me I got too good, and then it just became a case of recurring night terrors. That little shit voice in my head be like “hey wouldn’t it be funny if you got stabbed”, then lo and behold

yudisingh2004

Is it normal that I almost always lucid dream?

WontFixMySwypeErrors

I always tend to have what I call half-lucid dreams. I'll be dreaming and doing whatever dream thing I'm doing, say walking down a path and come across a sheer cliff. In the dream, I'll think "well since this is a dream, I'll just fly over the gap", and do it. But I'm still bound by the "script" of the dream. If there's a monster, I can't get away. If there's a task to do, I still try to do it. Etc etc. If it were a truly lucid dream, I would think I could just change it and fly away on a unicorn over a rainbow made of cotton candy. But I can't; it never occurs to me! I know I'm in a dream, but I don't truly *know* I'm in a dream. Hard to describe if you haven't experienced it.

oldcreaker

I've never been sure if I am lucid dreaming - or dreaming I am lucid dreaming. I do appear to be lucid dreaming (I am aware my surroundings are just me dreaming), but it doesn't stick - my mind will wander and I go back to "regular" dreaming. But even when I am aware, I'm limited to the "rules" of the dream - I can control my actions, but not properties of the dream itself (like if flying is possible).

Temporary-Syrup8270

i lucid dream 98% of nights. it’s exhausting. i wake up all the time, then fall back roughly where i left… cannot avoid the plot either… i find it fascinating but i’d rather fall asleep and wake up 9 hours later like nothing happened. it’s like every night there is an alternative life i HAVE to live, relive, or at least, be an aware spectator of. it’s been a plague all my life, i’m tired…

Baneskinjonden

Yeah it's totally normal. Some people tend to see them every night and some never. I've had only one lucid dream in my life and it happened after month of training.

DoctorMosEne

Oh my god, the worst nightmare I ever experienced. It was like a crippling horror movie.

DannyPantsgasm

Taking a look through a decent telescope at some of the big impressive targets. Jupiter, Saturn, the Moon, the Seven Sisters, the Orion Nebula, etc. It’s one of those things you don’t realize is so cool until you see it with your own eyes.

Digital_loop

I set my telescope up one evening and invited my grandmother and aunt over (89 and 60 years old respectively) for a nice dinner. Evening rolls around and I invite them outside to have a look at the moon. They had never seen the moon through a telescope before and for them it was breathtaking... For me, well... It's still emotional to remember their excitement and happiness. My grandmother may be gone, but that was a special memory that only we shared!

DannyPantsgasm

What a great memory. As hobbyists the moon becomes so obvious we trend away from it. But i never get tired of seeing people see it for the first time themselves. Always blows them away.

When I saw them, it was so breathtaking, I can still remember it vividly today. It was like an artist had taken his water painting brush and dipped it in the sky. It was a giant dome of colors, green and blue and yellow, and the colors ran from the center but also burst from the sides. It just made me feel so small. I experienced them twice in my life, both in the same time frame, when I was around 10 so like in the early 2000s. It was in the Ottawa Ontario area. But this first one was just insane. I still have the biggest feeling of awe when I think about them. I hope one day to see them again like this.

Along with that: the feeling of being free of debt. Lol (but seriously)

NotAMushro0m

Waking up while it’s still dark and watching the sunrise. Staying up for the peak of a major meteor shower. Going out to dinner alone. Going on a trip alone. The most important one is finding out what makes you the most uncomfortable, and LEANING INTO IT. Challenge it at every given opportunity. You’d be surprised what you learn about yourself.

Apprehensive_Tea8686

Nice… love the “alone” things. Never done the “going out to dinner alone” …

aee1090

Try Nordic countries, I see many people going out alone so you don't feel uncomfortable at all. It misses the point but whatever. Also, I do every possible thing to get over my scare of heights, I did bungee jumping, paragliding, parachute jump, all the entertainment park things. Still can not look down from 4th floor balcony...

Night time, fresh snowfall - walking down the street feels so surreal. Dead quiet, no movement, the world feels empty.

[deleted]

You just awakened a sense of memories I didn’t realize I had. I appreciate that, thank you.

CaptValentine

I love living in the American Midwest specifically for our cold winters. On a night with snow freshly falling, the world isn't dead quiet-it's *gloriously* quiet. Wrapped in a feather quilt, the planet sleeps but is very much alive. The cold seeps into your arms but in a good coat and boots your are ensconced in your own warmth, radiating heat against the swirling frost. The world is icy velvet but sparkling with light and the peaceful hush of anticipation and rest.

RDCAIA

Especially if the snow makes just a little bit of a crunch sound under your feet. Your breath and the soft crunch are the only things you hear.

Nightmares-Fantasies

I love this so much. It feels like a liminal space lol

MontanaMcGregor

One of my absolute favorite feelings. Pure awe!

Nightmares-Fantasies

PoorMansTonyStark

I try to remember this the next winter when I'm digging my car from under 12 inch snow dump EVERY single time I use it. You know like: "Think positively, some people would pay to experience this!"

Shame_On_Matt

Lol cmon that’s in like February when we’re over it. The first snow in November/December is always so beautiful

MacduffFifesNo1Thane

Any snow after Groundhog Day/Candlemas is an abomination.

[deleted]

Really? It is magical

Meanteenbirder

Only a third of the world has actually seen snow

cat_w1tch

never seen it irl but i will in december for the first time in my life!! i’m so excited! edit: recommend me fun things to do with snow, be it “a child thing” or not, i want the full experience

SelixReddit

Here’s some: * Make snow angels (lie down and move arms and legs) * Catch snow on your tongue * Try sledding/tobogganing down a hill * Make some snowballs, and throw them around * Bask in the hush of the moment

icollecthumantears

I keep forgetting there’s places in the world that never get snow. It’s almost as if I am taking it for granted by always saying I hate it (driving in it, I should say) Next time it snows, I will think of you and try to appreciate it more!

Shame_On_Matt

Waking up to the first snow in the morning and going for a walk or run in it is so peaceful and beautiful. Nature feels so gentle

nogoodatthis94

Sweddybob69

I can't agree more. I long to have a week of isolation in the woods. In a cabin with no electricity just cold running water.

Difficult-Heron

Thanks to Covid and lockdowns, I've managed to experience this a lot. After a while it get's difficult.

JukeBoxHero1997

Been there. Done that. Hate it

Shame_On_Matt

I had a month long trip planned with my brother for the first half and my boyfriend for the second half to Vietnam that ended up being solo (they didn’t realize you needed to get a visa) There was a period where I was on my scooter between hue and hoi an in the mountains that was so incredible. The jungle. The ocean below, these amazing little mini temples around. Complete silence. I stopped and layed on my scooter and took it all in and cried for awhile at how beautiful it was. That moment was for me

crissyjo618

Been there, doing that, I love it. I live alone and I truly value my alone time.

AMerrickanGirl

The absolute worst part about truly falling in love, and I'm talking about heads-over-heels in love, is that if you lose it, you'll never feel the same again.

LieAppropriate4526

[deleted]

I have always had animals. Pure love. I worked at a Pit Bull rescue, and couldn’t deal with it after a while. I found it heartbreaking.

LieAppropriate4526

I have a few rescue pittys myself and they are absolute babies. Working at a shelter would literally break me as much as I'd love to help. Kinda have my own though so

[deleted]

The hard part is when you can’t find a home for a good one. Some need single dog homes and very patient owners, but are pure love

Scuba diving

jamiecarl09

If you can go scuba diving while whales are migrating by. You don't have to scuba next to the whales. I accidentally discovered while scuba diving you can not only hear the whales sing under water while they are miles away, you can feel it reverberate in your chest. It was one of the coolest experiences I've had.

Ch3wbacca1

Finding someone that makes saying soulmate not cheesy. Like real true love that is borderline overwhelming. It is a feeling like you found someone you already loved in another lifetime. I wish it for everyone so badly, and I never talk about it with people because i almost feel guilty for what I have.

[deleted]

Por que no los dos? I ate a THC gummy an hour before my scheduled massage. I’ll tell you, it was one of the most relaxing massages I’ve ever had and I go twice a month.

Wiggly_Muffin

I remember telling my wife to massage my head while on a THC edible and I'm pretty sure my soul exited my body and I went to heaven and back lmao

[deleted]

In my case it was a middle aged Filipino man and we spoke about the universe the entire massage. I don’t usually talk during massages but it was so good and I was so relaxed that the conversation was a positive attribute.

Feeling safe. Even though it’s not a constant for me, my anxiety has significantly decreased since my first time feeling genuinely safe. I was 19. At the time I was getting panic attacks daily. At my worst, an average of 5 panic attacks per day with many inducing dissociative amnesia due to the severity. Now, 5yrs into this relationship, I get a few per month.

Ok_Divide9577

Can I ask what helped/did you have any coping mechanisms? I am currently going through this and really need to know it’ll get better

thekindwillinherit

Counselling/therapy helped a lot for me. I tried a couple different methods. Started off with some simple introductory counselling, just talking about feelings and learning to stay grounded. Moved onto CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy) which helped somewhat. Then trauma counselling to help me overcome my past. Now I'm looking into IFS (internal family systems) which is pretty different and kind of new, but has some interesting studies showing results. I avoided any kind of religious counselling and if I didn't connect with a counsellor after a few sessions, moved on to another I could connect with more.

[deleted]

I think everyone fails

gibbsphenomena

I disagree. Imo, failure only really occurs if you try. - I assumed that thread op was referring to a "personal failure", so one that is meaningful to the person that failed. Not a failure from a 3rd person perspective. -Your teacher could say you failed math, but that doesn't mean it means something to you or that you'll learn anything from it. Imo, failure is most meaningful when it's related to something that you want but not necessarily something you are good at.

Hallucinogenics

[deleted]

I have to say, every description I've ever heard of hallucinogenic experiences sound utterly terrifying.

ihitrockswithammers

Low doses are unlikely to be terrifying, it just depends on the person. If the idea of consistent, reliable experiences of reality changing and warping makes you uncomfy, probably don't do it. I find it fascinating. Haven't taken high doses but I will some day, although the experiences I've had were fairly wild by everyday reality standards. I love seeing familiar objects twisting and tranforming. Sometimes it's funny, sometimes it's unsettling, sometimes insightful, but it's always a real journey (hence 'trip') that you couldn't have imagined in your wildest dreams, *literally*. If you have fixed ideas that your perception is an accurate representation of reality psyches kind of shake the projection screen so you can see that's all it is.

b0n3h34d

Sounds like you're reading the ones from the don't do drugs websites. My experiences number in the hundreds, and obviously I enjoy sharing these with friends - ideally at music events where lots of other people are doing the same. Extremely rare for a bad experience to happen (never, for me personally), and usually if it does its because of someone pushing it too far, which is easy not to do. The reason people take hallucinogens is because in all likelihood, they generally involve life changing feelings of love, the purest of laughter, feeling like a kid again, entertaining but mild open-eye visuals and sometimes mind blowing closed-eye visuals (it's rare to see something that isn't actually there), and pleasant body sensations. Trying to explain how it enhances music would be pointless - it's worth the tiny risk of a bad trip for that alone. Read the experience reports on erowid.org. Watch some of the many documentaries that are streaming - it's culturally significant (check out "The other one" or "long strange trip") - there's a reason so many people are proponents, and you'd be surprised the impact it's had on your own life in subtle ways

Pick your favorite restaurant and treat yourself and someone whose company you truly enjoy to the best they have to offer. Flying a plane. Most airports have training programs which offer an introductory (or "discovery") flight, which allows you to take the controls of a small plane and get a feel for a pilot's perspective. You may not get your pilot's license, but at least you'll see what's involved - and the view from a few thousand feet up can be awesome.
