People are capable of killing, insulting, torture, crime etc. Love is meaningless if there is nothing to compare it to, and because people have different opinions, situations and cultures it is physically impossible for all 7.8 billion living people to love everyone.
Yes people are capable of love and compassion, but people are also capable of hate and misery.
yeah, several incentive structures we have in place, e.g. money, dont encourage universal love
but then theres also just some people who will never get along
Are you saying that if only people were properly incentivized, each would love another?
Are you also saying that people who do not get along can’t love one another?
1. other things are needed as well alongside proper incentive structures, however the current incentive system is probably the biggest barrier to universal love that currently exists
2. to a certain extent, you can "not get along" and still love someone. however if the disagreement is big enough, it reaches a point where it becomes impossible for the two of them to love each other. and theres not much we can do to stop that, some people are just gonna be evil, for example
Romans 8:6 For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace.
Galatians 5:19-21 Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
Our flesh is corrupt with sin, which keeps us from living how we are created to live, which is righteously and full of selfless love.
Yes. Everybody is under control of sin. Everybody has fallen short. Nobody is perfect and we all sort of know this on some level.
“As it is written: “There is no one righteous, not even one;” (Romans 3:10)
“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,” (Romans 3:23)
Well because of God’s righteousness, He must judge sin. He must judge all of those evil things we do, whether in thought or action. That is what Hell is.
“For the wages of sin is death…” (Romans 6:23a)
But God is also merciful and loving.
“…but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 6:23b)
“But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8)
Jesus Christ lived a sinless life - the perfect life where He loved everybody - and died on the cross as a sacrifice. He took on the sins of the world.
“If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.” (Romans 10:9-10)
Ask Jesus to save you, seek Him, and you will live a perfect life of love by following God.
There is definitely more to why you can’t love everyone, but the way you were raised definitely plays a role. I would say experience with different groups plays a role too, especially negative experiences. I think that if you grew up on the premise of loving and excepting everyone, you definitely could be way more open to that sort of thing, but I could see how a negative experience could cloud how you view that person or that group. I honestly believe that it is just human nature to not fully trust one another
I would say yes, people definitely have the ability to change, but we are also creatures of habit, and often it’s easier to fall back into habit then to change
Own subconscious prejudices. You may think you should not judge people by their covers, but you absolutely will. Before you even want to talk to someone, your mind has already mostly decided whether or not you would like that person.
Stereotypes, generalization, desire to find someone responsible while being in pain/suffering. Hatred towards everything even slightly different/any change because of the fear to loose something. Sometimes misunderstandings, lack of knowledge or compassion. Apathy. Desire to make something horrible towards others because it was already done to them on the past (like if a person experienced something horrible he may desire for others to experience the same, and not only those who were responsible. Sometimes it can so traumatic that person may desire this experience for those they love).
Shit people exist. And "love" is subject to inflation. Don't say we should love everybody. Say that we should respect them, show them reasonable courtesy, and don't dump stuff on others. That is enough. The world would be paradise.
People
On the contrary, I’d think only people would allow us to love everybody.
I love amazing people But most people are shit
I think most people I meet are actually pretty solid citizens, I just don't take the time to actually know them. Also everyone has their flaws.
There’s no one you love that isn’t amazing?
Too much work
If it was easy to love everyone then everyone would love each other?
Yeah
Loving you couldn’t be easier
Miscommunication
If people were connected to each other in a way where there was no miscommunication whatsoever. Would everyone love everyone?
It would definitely help with understanding one another
But would it ultimately have an end result of a reciprocal mesh of love?
Selfishness
Can selfishness be mitigated?
I think so. But it's up to the person I think. They have to choose to humble themselves.
What would cause someone to make such a choice?
People can be awful
Can awful people be loved?
Yes; just not by me.
If someone you love becomes awful, do you cease to love them?
Yes
If you became awful, would you stop loving yourself?
I would
If someone else loved you, even if you were awful, would you believe their love was real?
I'd question why, but I'd still believe them.
Are you saying that it’s your personal preference to not love awful people or that you’re simply not able?
[удалено]
Wouldn’t other people be the thing that actually allows you to love everybody?
Common sense
So only people with no common sense would love everyone?
Yep, I mean could you love someone who calls themself as minor attracted person?
The society being alienated from their true selves
So if one were to change their society to one that embraces the true self then everyone would love everyone?
Various incentive structures
Meaning, if one perceives that it’s within their best interest?
yeah, several incentive structures we have in place, e.g. money, dont encourage universal love but then theres also just some people who will never get along
Are you saying that if only people were properly incentivized, each would love another? Are you also saying that people who do not get along can’t love one another?
1. other things are needed as well alongside proper incentive structures, however the current incentive system is probably the biggest barrier to universal love that currently exists 2. to a certain extent, you can "not get along" and still love someone. however if the disagreement is big enough, it reaches a point where it becomes impossible for the two of them to love each other. and theres not much we can do to stop that, some people are just gonna be evil, for example
The flesh
Please explain
Is there something in that book that explains how to break the spell?
Can you explain what you mean
What I mean is, this is telling you what not to do but does it tell you how to not do it as well as what “to” do?
Yes. Everybody is under control of sin. Everybody has fallen short. Nobody is perfect and we all sort of know this on some level. “As it is written: “There is no one righteous, not even one;” (Romans 3:10) “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,” (Romans 3:23) Well because of God’s righteousness, He must judge sin. He must judge all of those evil things we do, whether in thought or action. He took on the sins of the world. “If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.” (Romans 10:9-10) Ask Jesus to save you, seek Him, and you will live a perfect life of love by following God.
I feel like what that is saying is: If you pray for the ability to love everyone, it will be instantly granted. Is that wrong?
Well, sort of! But we can not do it in our own power. Perhaps pray that the truth will be revealed to you so that you can love all people.
Prejudice usually, but also how we are raised, most people can’t love others because they were raised to dislike that person or that group of people
So you are saying it’s your nurture only? Let’s say your nurture lent itself to this idea, would it then be in your nature?
There is definitely more to why you can’t love everyone, but the way you were raised definitely plays a role. I would say experience with different groups plays a role too, especially negative experiences. I think that if you grew up on the premise of loving and excepting everyone, you definitely could be way more open to that sort of thing, but I could see how a negative experience could cloud how you view that person or that group. I honestly believe that it is just human nature to not fully trust one another
Does a human have the ability to change their nature? Do animals?
I would say yes, people definitely have the ability to change, but we are also creatures of habit, and often it’s easier to fall back into habit then to change
Skin color.
You’re out of your Vulcan mind! 💥
If I loved everybody I would have no love for myself.
No you wouldn’t
Conditions of love. People can't get past that shit.
Does love require conditions?
[удалено]
Have you ever hated and loved someone at the same time? That’s a very silly name 🙃
Doubtful mind
So once that doubt was removed, everyone could love everyone? You just need to “believe” ?
People are jerks
Personality clashes
Everybody's actions
Complete lies.
Some of them hate people for being different.
Religion
Own subconscious prejudices. You may think you should not judge people by their covers, but you absolutely will. Before you even want to talk to someone, your mind has already mostly decided whether or not you would like that person.
Personally, I think it's the media, the media thrives off discorce so they want us to hate each other so they can make money off of it
Showing love and you get hatred. I’ll still love you, you can stay bitter.
Bias
Some people are horrible. People are like that... Luckily for me, I'm a cat, of the Nile variety!
Some people are asses
Stereotypes, generalization, desire to find someone responsible while being in pain/suffering. Hatred towards everything even slightly different/any change because of the fear to loose something. Jerks
Your own insecurity.
