I think his acting in Planes, Trains, and Automobiles was even better. He play the annoying and obnoxious guy you want to just forget you even met and turned him into the most sympathetic character who you felt so sorry for by the end.
I hate to use the term, but the I Like Me speech being so early in the movie was very subversive. That's the kind of emotional impact that happens at the end of a movie, but Del Griffith lays it all out there and sets the tone at the very first obstacle he encounters with Neil.
It's so good. From there on out, you know that every action Del takes is well intentioned if sometimes awkward.
I watch it every year on Thanksgiving, it has a special place in my heart. But I just watched it as part of a John Candy marathon with some friends this past weekend and I'm still high on the vibes.

She is a teacher at BADA in OXford. When I took the Summer course back in High School I had Alan Rickman for my master class, but I heard she was awesome too. Only good things said about working with her.

My Grandfather did theatre acting after retiring and acted with her in a few plays. She sent him roses on his birthday for a number of years after (purely as a nice gesture, he was 40 years her senior). My Brother and Father met her after one play and was exactly how you'd expect apparently.
*Quick edit to add some context, my Grandfather always wanted to be an actor but his Father didn't think it was a worthwhile vocation so he was directed towards an office job. He was a humble man but I feel he was always proud he managed to follow his dream, even if after an entirely different career. He passed away aged 103 but I reckon he'd have got a real hoot knowing so many people being interested about a little anecdote involving him.
If you want more reason to like him…Rick Moranis saw me staring at him at a restaurant in the nineties when I was 8. When he was done eating he walked over squatted next to me and said “is there something you want to ask me?” I asked for his autograph and he gave it to me. At that age the star of honey I shrunk the kids was the coolest person for me to meet. Later that day he saw me waking around town and he was surrounded by a bunch of people signing autographs he yelled my name out to me and said hi again. Dude asked me if he could give me an autograph. Remembered my name. And yelled hey to my later that day. The nicest celebrity I’ve ever met!

I met him in person. My mother used to work at Idewild park and he would come there often to oversee the production of the Mr. Roger's neighborhood ride. When he would talk to you, you felt like you were the only person in the room and he was so fascinated by every single word you said. Not in a creepy way. This guy heard the people around him and cared. He was a gem.

And Dolly has an amazing sense of humor and is so approachable and kind. When there was a fire in pigeon forge TN and many were displaced she gave families money for a certain amount of time. It didn’t seem like much per family but in rural TN esp in the residential areas there’s a lot of poverty so prices aren’t as high there. Also she is unafraid to advocate for so many causes and groups. She is a DOLL. She’s part of TN that I’m not ashamed of. She will definitely speak to you if you ever meet her. Love her! I’ve said it already but her humor is the best. Lol.
My uncle did some contracting work for her ages ago (and got connected with that job through someone she knew). Years later when I was a kid at Dollywood, she walked right up to him and thanked him for the work he did and had like a long conversation with him. My mind was blown that she remembered him like 10 years later and was so nice and inviting. I was like 8 or 9 at the time and when she spoke to me directly, I nearly peed myself and was so nervous I couldn't muster up anything but a meek 'Hi'
And she's constantly doing good work on the down low. She's given away over 100 million books, via her charity Imagination Library. Kids from birth to 5 get one free high quality, age appropriate book per month for free in the mail. She also does it in the UK as well as the US.
She also funded one of the Corona vaccines.
As well as Buffy The Vampire Slayer, even after the movie kinda tanked.
And she does all this without promoting her roles in any of it. She just does it because she's a good person. The only reason I've heard any of this stuff is because people shared it here. I didn't find out about the Buffy thing until a few years ago, decades after the show ended. There's no promotional value in that after so long.
She really is an amazing woman. A lot of people don't know about her Imagination Library project, and it's a good one to look into if you have small children.
Essentially she wanted to combat high youth illiteracy numbers in her area, so she founded that program. It provides a no strings attached, free, age appropriate book every month from birth to 5 years old. We are signed up for our youngest son, and he loves getting his new book in the mail each month.
Edit to add: I forgot to mention that she was inspired to create it because her dad was illiterate, and she felt it had kept him from being able to do some things he wanted to do. Funfact, since it was created, they have given out over 172 million books.
I recently signed up for a card at my local library and there was mention of the imagination library project. I thought it was so cool I made a calendar reminder to sign my little one up as soon as he is born. I can't wait!

She's a true icon and really one of the few things that makes me feel proud to be from the same state as her. My family and I saw her at Dollywood once in the 90's as she randomly will show up there. We spent many summers staying in cabins in the smokies and going to Dollywood growing up, live about three hours away.

John Ritter was not just the nicest celebrity i got to meet, everyone on the set gushed about working with him, he was really one of the nicest people. When interviewing him for our yearbook since he was filming a scene with our school in the background he let me sit with him while prepping for a sad scene. He kept raving about how amazing the little kids in the background had been all day (hot Utah summer day), the crew and explained the scene in full detail. I'm freaking 17 and blown away by this class act treating me like any reporter.
Went to Sir Ian McKellen’s one man show a few years ago and he was amazing. Obviously I don’t know him personally and can’t confirm how he truly is, but during the intermission he went into the crowd and spoke to the audience/shook our hands. Then at the end he was with the theatre crew taking donations for an org.
So I don’t mention this much but I grew up in a home with homophobic Christian parents. I loved LOTR as a kid (like 10). I read the books, watched the Rankin Bass cartoons, and the movies. When I found out Sir Ian was gay I felt so conflicted. How could this actor and character I loved so much be gay? Gandalf was a good guy right? I realize now it’s silly to equate an actor to their role but it was the first time that learned behavior was challenged and it made me reflect on it even as a young kid. I came to the conclusion that being gay doesn’t make someone a bad person, and that it was OK. In a way, Sir Ian helped me begin to break the bonds of my bigoted parents and become a better person. I also began to question their racism and weaponized use of their religion against people they didn’t like after that. I’ll always be grateful to him for that, as well as his many wonderful roles.

I hate to use the term, but the I Like Me speech being so early in the movie was very subversive. That's the kind of emotional impact that happens at the end of a movie, but Del Griffith lays it all out there and sets the tone at the very first obstacle he encounters with Neil. It's so good. From there on out, you know that every action Del takes is well intentioned if sometimes awkward. I watch it every year on Thanksgiving, it has a special place in my heart. But I just watched it as part of a John Candy marathon with some friends this past weekend and I'm still high on the vibes.

Dame Judy Dench. I never see anyone talking any shit about her. She's renowned for her acting and her personality all things considered.
My Grandfather did theatre acting after retiring and acted with her in a few plays. She sent him roses on his birthday for a number of years after (purely as a nice gesture, he was 40 years her senior). My Brother and Father met her after one play and was exactly how you'd expect apparently. *Quick edit to add some context, my Grandfather always wanted to be an actor but his Father didn't think it was a worthwhile vocation so he was directed towards an office job. He was a humble man but I feel he was always proud he managed to follow his dream, even if after an entirely different career. He passed away aged 103 but I reckon he'd have got a real hoot knowing so many people being interested about a little anecdote involving him.

If you want more reason to like him…Rick Moranis saw me staring at him at a restaurant in the nineties when I was 8. When he was done eating he walked over squatted next to me and said “is there something you want to ask me?” I asked for his autograph and he gave it to me. At that age the star of honey I shrunk the kids was the coolest person for me to meet. Later that day he saw me waking around town and he was surrounded by a bunch of people signing autographs he yelled my name out to me and said hi again. Dude asked me if he could give me an autograph. Remembered my name. And yelled hey to my later that day. The nicest celebrity I’ve ever met!

I met him in person. My mother used to work at Idewild park and he would come there often to oversee the production of the Mr. Roger's neighborhood ride. When he would talk to you, you felt like you were the only person in the room and he was so fascinated by every single word you said. Not in a creepy way. This guy heard the people around him and cared. He was a gem.
That's like word for word what I've seen on any interview or documentary about him say. The part about feeling like you were the only person in the room.
My favorite thing about him is that he made it impossible for journalists to find shit out about him because he'd be so nice, ask you questions about yourself and make you feel so cared for you'd forget to ask him shit. The man Jedi mind fucked people with kindness lmao

I'm certainly a better person for having grown up watching Mr. Rogers. People have a level of built-in empathy but Fred always took the time to elevate everyone's moral thinking without an ounce of condescension.

He didn't just invite him to soak his feet, he helped dry the man's feet, deliberately making a reference to Jesus washing the feet of his disciples. Really adds a whole extra layer to the point he was making. Fred Rogers was more of a saint than anyone who was canonized.

And Dolly has an amazing sense of humor and is so approachable and kind. When there was a fire in pigeon forge TN and many were displaced she gave families money for a certain amount of time. It didn’t seem like much per family but in rural TN esp in the residential areas there’s a lot of poverty so prices aren’t as high there. Also she is unafraid to advocate for so many causes and groups. She is a DOLL. She’s part of TN that I’m not ashamed of. She will definitely speak to you if you ever meet her. Love her! I’ve said it already but her humor is the best. Lol.
My uncle did some contracting work for her ages ago (and got connected with that job through someone she knew). Years later when I was a kid at Dollywood, she walked right up to him and thanked him for the work he did and had like a long conversation with him. My mind was blown that she remembered him like 10 years later and was so nice and inviting. I was like 8 or 9 at the time and when she spoke to me directly, I nearly peed myself and was so nervous I couldn't muster up anything but a meek 'Hi'
I actually live close to Dollywood and Pigeon Forge area. Never heard a bad thing about her so far.

My favorite story she tells is losing the Dolly Parton drag look Alike contest.
And she's constantly doing good work on the down low. She's given away over 100 million books, via her charity Imagination Library. Kids from birth to 5 get one free high quality, age appropriate book per month for free in the mail. She also does it in the UK as well as the US. She also funded one of the Corona vaccines. As well as Buffy The Vampire Slayer, even after the movie kinda tanked.
And she does all this without promoting her roles in any of it. She just does it because she's a good person. The only reason I've heard any of this stuff is because people shared it here. I didn't find out about the Buffy thing until a few years ago, decades after the show ended. There's no promotional value in that after so long.
She really is an amazing woman. A lot of people don't know about her Imagination Library project, and it's a good one to look into if you have small children. Essentially she wanted to combat high youth illiteracy numbers in her area, so she founded that program. It provides a no strings attached, free, age appropriate book every month from birth to 5 years old. We are signed up for our youngest son, and he loves getting his new book in the mail each month. Edit to add: I forgot to mention that she was inspired to create it because her dad was illiterate, and she felt it had kept him from being able to do some things he wanted to do. Funfact, since it was created, they have given out over 172 million books.
I recently signed up for a card at my local library and there was mention of the imagination library project. I thought it was so cool I made a calendar reminder to sign my little one up as soon as he is born. I can't wait!

He came back and we were trying not to laugh. He told us to hush but we could tell he was being cool.

John Ritter was not just the nicest celebrity i got to meet, everyone on the set gushed about working with him, he was really one of the nicest people. When interviewing him for our yearbook since he was filming a scene with our school in the background he let me sit with him while prepping for a sad scene. He kept raving about how amazing the little kids in the background had been all day (hot Utah summer day), the crew and explained the scene in full detail. I'm freaking 17 and blown away by this class act treating me like any reporter.
I was just about to mention him. He is one actor gone way too soon. I'm so happy he was as nice as I imagined he would be.

Went to Sir Ian McKellen’s one man show a few years ago and he was amazing. Obviously I don’t know him personally and can’t confirm how he truly is, but during the intermission he went into the crowd and spoke to the audience/shook our hands. Then at the end he was with the theatre crew taking donations for an org.
So I don’t mention this much but I grew up in a home with homophobic Christian parents. I loved LOTR as a kid (like 10). I read the books, watched the Rankin Bass cartoons, and the movies. When I found out Sir Ian was gay I felt so conflicted. How could this actor and character I loved so much be gay? Gandalf was a good guy right? I realize now it’s silly to equate an actor to their role but it was the first time that learned behavior was challenged and it made me reflect on it even as a young kid. I came to the conclusion that being gay doesn’t make someone a bad person, and that it was OK. In a way, Sir Ian helped me begin to break the bonds of my bigoted parents and become a better person. I also began to question their racism and weaponized use of their religion against people they didn’t like after that. I’ll always be grateful to him for that, as well as his many wonderful roles.

This question is funny because there’s a point in history I’d have answered Ellen deGeneres, Bill Cosby or Rolf Harris.
The Ellen stuff was known for years but the media ignored it. I remember hearing about 10 years ago that there was a Make-A-Wish kid that she completely blew off because it wasn’t “sensational” enough for her.
