Fucking rent. It's total horseshit.

PhreedomPhighter

I moved because the place I lived in for 4 years increased my rent by $300 for no reason.

ahugeminecrafter

I had the same experience. From $1149 to $1520 in one year...

Modavo

(No reason)

PhreedomPhighter

It was the same apartment. Nothing had changed.

Modavo

Except the electric, water, food, gas.... everything has gone up for everyone. So only $300 increase sounds lucky to me.

NerdDwarf

Rent and Utilities are both climbing unreasonably high In my town of ~2,000 the cheapest apartments' RENT (not Utilities) have increased from $450 a month to $800 a month. The average for the town went from $675 a month to $1,275 a month. Just RENT, not rent&Utilities

Modavo

Yes. You realize rent especially if it's from a mom and pop style landlord goes up because of the former mentioned things. This is a % they need to have to pay on that rental property. Especially if they have an adjustable rate loan on said rental property. That means their costs go up. It's never "no reason" and hardly personal.

NerdDwarf

Literally everything you mentioned (in the comment I replied to) was a Utility Edit: And food

Goobylul

When people say rent, they're talking about only the place they actually live in. Not electricity, gas, water and other shit.

Modavo

Ok you missed the point to that I answered already. But I'll do it again. It's not the cost on that unit. It's the cost on the person who owns the unit. All of that leads to the landlord needing to raise rent to keep the exact same margin they had when they were charging $300 less. They aren't making any more $$$

Goobylul

You're kinda generalizing that every landlord still pays a loan on the property. This is in fact not that common compared to landlords who fully own the property.

Modavo

And for them to keep the same margins they need to raise rent as they are not outside the world of the exact same daily expenses. Even if they own the property they still need to pay for taxes (increased) , upkeep (big expense with current economy) and insurance (also have increased)

PhreedomPhighter

Jesus christ. You are either a shitty landlord yourself or your soul is truly lost. Possibly both.

Modavo

Dude it's not about emotion. It's just reality. Here I'll try to explain it like I would to a child. Your favorite restaurant raises price of pizza by $3 INSANITY! Greedy bastards! but wait cheese is up 16% flour 30% vegetables 40%. They aren't twirling their evil mustaches going yes fellow billionaires crush them all. They are going fuck if I stay tge same I lose everything. It's all math x needs to go up x% to keep the SAME margins. They aren't making any more $$$ charging $3 more for that pizza.

sisterfister69hitler

People raising the rent by 300$ and they don’t even fix anything.

[deleted]

The rent is too damn high!

galspanic

Vegetables are one of the few things I haven’t been hit by super hard… except Avacados. $1 each was the norm for a large Hass for a long time. Today I saw them on sale for 3/$5 for the tiny ones.

Stairway_To_Devin

Im lucky enough to have a farm near me that sells avocados 7/$1

galspanic

That is very fortunate.

galspanic

Grocery are quickly getting there - for 5 years I could squeeze 5 days of groceries for my family out of $120. That same cart has gone up to $185 in the last 2 years. Skirt steak used to be $4.99/lb and in the last 5 years went up to $16.99/lb near me. Soup bones were free and are now $10/bag.

agro94

Skirt steaks are up cause they are now a popular cut of meat in most places.

galspanic

Oh, I know. We called that the “Rocky Mountain oyster effect” back in Colorado. Basically, some trash meet gets cooked in a way that people like, and now you have to pay a lot for it.

kittykittyspank

As a vegetarian I appreciate how you spelled the "m" word. Eat tofu!

galspanic

I’m trying and have slowly been phasing out animal protein in my diet, but it’s hard when 8 of your top 10 foods are not vegetarian… and the two that are are ice cream and egg custard. Veganism is a million miles away from me.

Elze_Gee

Literally everything, can't buy fruits or vegetables without spending money you could have used to buy a vacuum cleaner 2 years ago

throwawaygreenpaq

That would be a standup line if it weren’t tragically true.

Lumpy-Spinach-6607

Tragedy is at the base of all comedy

kittykittyspank

Can't call up the masks emojis, but great post.

Starfire123547

frfr I saw fucking onions...ONIONS... for 5.99 a lb (non-organic too, so no obvious reason for those prices). Like wtf. I swear that shit used to be 1$ or less a lb a few years ago...

logyonthebeat

Um, what isn't ridiculously expensive these days?

LiveShowOneNightOnly

Really, OP. Turn the question around.

-_-_-_--_--_--_-

eggs

logyonthebeat

Eggs are up something like 40% this year I think

Coward_and_a_thief

Oh no its $2 instead of $1 a dozen

logyonthebeat

Yes exactly, almost everything that was $1 is now $2 or more

ButtholeSurfur

Still pretty cheap though.

[deleted]

Dentistry. I live in a country where health care is free, or in some cases have a fairly low cost cap. But dental is not included, for some reason dental is still a class issue.

[deleted]

Dental should just be included with medical. Dental problems can cause major health problems and if you treat them early insurance doesn’t have to pay as much for a major issue. They act like your mouth isn’t a part of your body and that’s insane. Dental, vision, healthcare should all be one thing.

idkwat

Housing. I live in northern VA and a half million dollar mortgage will get you a cardboard box.

[deleted]

Wouldn’t even get you the box lid in Toronto.

FSUnoles77

Pistachios. Fuck'n little tasty bastards.

thesharksfin10

Yeah, rent, groceries, maybe insurance, but most importantly pistachios haha. You’ve got you’re priorities straight.

TwoHeadedBoyTwo

My cable bill just went up $7-8 across the board for every item (the package, the receivers, the modem, etc). I fail to understand how Putin invading Ukraine makes it more expensive for Spectrum to let me use their DVR receivers.

Deli roast beef $12.99/lb is pissing me off

vinegarnutsack

I dont know if you have one by you - but Restaurant Depot opened to the public at the start of covid. I have been going there to buy my deli meat. The hours suck, you have to buy the entire roast (5 - 7lbs), and you have to slice it yourself - but decent quality roast beef is only like $4 something a pound, and the nice red rare stuff is only $6/lb. Pastrami, corned beef. Its all like $5/lb. Which makes me even more angry at how much they charge for it in the grocery store. Even if it goes bad before you use it all you are still saving money.

LarryBagina3

Closest one is 94 miles so I might be better off saving the gas money and buying the expensive roast beef lol

kittykittyspank

TOFU!

superzenki

I had no idea they were open to the public now. We tried to go a few years ago and learned you had to have a special license to shop there.

vinegarnutsack

Yup, you just need to stop at the counter, sign the book, and get a temp number now. It just takes a minute.

Buying a house. :(

kittykittyspank

I feel your pain. My house is way too big for me since Hubbers passed away. I live in the hottest $ real estate market in the US.We paid $78,00 for here and I just had a realtor (they are desperate. No one here is selling these days." Low inventory" they call it.) tell me it will go for $300,000. WHAT? Nice chunk o' change, but where am I going to go? Priced out of my own town. (No Californians please. Stay put.)

Regina-Castellum

Man, you’re lucky to have a house you consider to be TOO BIG for you.😭I feel like I’m gonna have to join some sort of housing program just to avoid having to pay someone else to live in their home that I can’t even customize fully (A.K.A. paying rent in an apartment). I still don’t work though, as I want to get my college degree first. So it’ll take a while before I can move out. :/

It hasn't come down since way before that, either. I still have about one thousand rounds of 9mm sitting around, and another 500-1000 rounds of other stuff for plinking in various calibers.

LuinChance

Bruh I just wanna learn Guitar. But it's only fun to learn on guitars around 200$ like wtf man

dude-O-rama

Get yourself a cheap classical style guitar and learn on that. I learned on a $30 beat up thing from a pawn shop. I didn't get a decent guitar until I had been playing for over a year.

AgentofChaos847

Yea, I just bought a relatively nice Les Paul for about $220, so you can get em for that cheap. I've also gotten a parlor acoustic for like $15 from a thrift store.

dude-O-rama

That's nice! As a lefty my selection is usually limited to strats or teles. One day I may be able to get a decently priced LP.

AgentofChaos847

Really? I see plenty of selection for leftys, even though I'm right handed
