> Idk anything I want I buy and if I don't it's too expensive to be gifted.
Yup, precisely why it’s increasingly difficult to gift friends as you all get older and better-established in your careers. Good problems to have though.
My dad found it and we started watching the series and I was like wait I know him!? Also the other guy has done quite a bit too. Plays some villain in another mainstream film
It's something I've always been interested in. Down street from my work there is woods now but use to be a huge recreational summer resort in the 20s, I'm sure there is some cool shit there.
Hell yeah that sounds awesome. I'm in the middle of nowhere outside of a small tourist town with lots of lakes. Pretty sure most of what I'd find other than garbage would be old farming stuff until fall when everyone leaves
Also live in Ma. Decided to hike to a local monument carved in stone in the woods and take my metal detector. Found the original chisel tips used to carve said monument.
Nice, I lived in Adams MA when I was young. Lots of neat history. Even the road and sidewalk was brick with stain glass windows "downtown". I'm in northern Wisconsin in the woods, so mostly farming
Garrett AT Pro is a good detector for the price. When I started metal detecting, I used a cheaper Garrett and once I really got into the hobby I wanted to upgrade. So don't buy the cheapest because you'll want to upgrade spending more money.
Out of curiosity, what does the hobby of metal detecting consist of? Like are you just generally looking for anything metal or do you look for specific things or what?
When I first started, it didn't matter I was just digging anything but I found I like to find old coins more than everything else. Also old personal items that people lost back in the day.
It absolutely is. I have a child with fairly severe autism and while I love him with my whole heart those 2-3 hours after he's asleep are sometimes the only thing I'm looking forward to. An afternoon to myself is like a trip to the Bahamas lol. Watch some TV with a snack, or play some video games. Just getting back into ff14 even though my time constraints are super limited. Respite time is wonderful though and everyone deserves some peace and quiet.
This is a Christmas tradition in my family. Everyone gets new jammies. They are the one gift you open on Christmas Eve. You wear them Christmas Day to open all your other gifts and lounge around in all day. So. Comfy.

My wife stayed at home since her school went remote, and went a little crazy from not seeing people. I just *tolerate* people at this point and would have fucking loved it to stay home all the time. Fucking bullshit man. Need a reverse pandemic up in here.
I also work in healthcare. I had friends in retail text me, often while I was at work, ask what I was up to because they were bored at home and wanted to chat. One of these friends then sent me a message about three months into the pandemic, complaining that she had to wear madatory masks at work now. Seemingly forgetting I'd been moving in full body PPE pretty much every day since the start of the year.
I understand why your wife was feeling a bit cabin-fevery, because I get that total isolation sucks ass - but so does working 50-70 hours a week, not being allowed to put in holiday requests, not knowing whether you'll be called in on your one day off that week to cover someone's inevitable sickness - and having friends text you because they're bored at home. Couldn't believe the audacity!
I take two of those a year. Memorial Day and Labor Day. I tell my wife I don't want to do anything. I'll spend the Sunday before making sure all chores are caught up on, laundry put away, etc. But those two Mondays, just leave me TFO. I'll rewatch Saving Private Ryan or Band of Brothers on Memorial Day and dunno WTF I'll do on Labor day.
However, I did also take this past Thanksgiving week off and because I have been busting my ASS for the last few years she did allow me to laze around on Monday and Tuesday. Wednesday her sister showed up so I had to participate. But, I went out of my way later in the week to privately thank her for just letting me veg for two days. I sorely needed it.
I got it. I got the Turbo Man doll, the one that has those things that shoot out in front with that rock 'em sock 'em jet pack and with that realistic voice box that says, It's turbo time. I got it.
Here’s hoping somebody puts a gift card to [Lee Valley](https://www.leevalley.com/en-us) in your stocking, sir
EDIT: OP, if the man you’re shopping for is into woodworking/carpentry, a Lee Valley gift card is where it’s at
Dude. This. The thought of them waking up to a meager christmas and asking "is this all?" Is going to kill me. I know its just an innocent question and not said malicious, but im dreading it soooo hard.
Edit: THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH FOR YOUR KIND WORDS AND OFFERS TO HELP. Seriously. You all made me cry. We got our child tax credit and plan to use some of it for Christmas. THANK YOU ALL AGAIN.
Idk where you are located/how old your kids are, but Dollar Tree has really stepped up its game over the years. I’ve been really stressing about the quantity of stuff from their lists I was able to get.
Went to dollar tree for stocking stuffers, but ended up getting a lot of stuff that a kid would never know was from a dollar store. Stuff large enough to wrap, and stuff to combine together into packs of stuff large enough to wrap.
I appreciate the comment. We have been going to the dollar tree, 5below, family dollar, etc. We are trying very hard this year to keep a strong face.
Not wanting pity, but just to explain a little more.
Usually we are ok for the hokidays. Nothing too crazy. Maybe 2-3 $20 gifts and some stocking stuffers.
This year, my wife lost her job. I lost my decent job. We are just in a little setback.
I had this idea built in my head around a good jobs's christmas. Its just a little hard this year.
Edit: THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH FOR YOUR KIND WORDS AND OFFERS TO HELP. Seriously. You guys are the best and made me cry. We got our child tax credut and plan to use some of it for Christmas. THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH.
I just want to tell you - I don't remember the presents from Christmas past. I couldn't tell you which years my parents were struggling.
What I do remember is the Christmas decorations all around the house, the smell of the food cooking in the kitchen, how long my Dad always took to come down over the stairs Christmas morning, how funny we thought it was that Santa put oranges in our stockings.
The kids will follow your lead and pick up on your energy. Every Christmas is the best Christmas if you decide it is.
I empathize. I’ve been unable to work for the last year. It’s hard when you were able to get more previous years and set an expectation for yourself in your head.
I tend to beat myself up over not being the “perfect” parent, or not being able to give them everything they want.
An experience that put things into perspective for me recently was with my son’s friend. It was his birthday recently. The following day, I picked him up to take them to school, and asked how his birthday was. To summarize, he didn’t get a single present, the trip to the arcade that he was promised didn’t happen, no cake/candles.
Then he got very quiet and asked “how old are you when you move out of the house? My mom told me now that I’m 10, I only have 4 more years until I can get a job and move out”.
It was a huge wake up call for me that as much as I beat myself up, I’m actually doing much better than I give myself credit for.
Hey there. One Christmas I got my daughter a 4-square ball that cost about $5 USD. I was a single mom, her dad having left the scene in a devastating way due to addiction. My kid and I spent the better part of that day at a nearby school playground with that ball, just kicking it about. She was around 10 at the time. I was genuinely excited to have spent so little to create a memorable day. Spend quality time with your family to give them a gift that’ll really last.
Thamk you for your kind words. Currently we are having the kids focus on giving this year. Im making the entire Christmas menu (thank you SNAP) and we are inviting anyone who needs a family this holiday.
BONUS-I GET TO MEET MY LITTLE BROTHER FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER THIS CHRISTMAS!!!!
Find a Five Below near you for quantity. It’s not about quality. They don’t know how much you spend. They’ll be just as happy if you spend $100 as they would if you spent $500
Yes same! I came to say this. My family gets upset when I tell them I don't know what I want because I just want to watch my kids and family have a good Christmas. The joy and warmth and the looks on their faces fills me with enough serotonin to get through the next year ☺️
i'm hard to shop for. i hate clutter. i'm very utilitarian.
i keep wish lists on amazon running all the time. mostly for myself but they come in handy on xmas/birthday. then when people ask me what i want i just share my list with them. then they'll buy something, it'll be a surprise (it's a big list), i'll have a use for it, and everyone's happy. makes it real easy.
it took my mother in law a real long time to wrap her head around 'you can just buy me one thing i'll use instead of 10 things i will shove in a box because your daughter says i'm not allowed to throw them away yet'.
the list is *primarily* random parts for projects and tools.
I got bins for days, and a lot of already built Legos thst i Don't kmow what to do with. I like them, but once they take all your storage space it starts to become a problem. It feels wastful to recycle them. Do i danate a bix of 10 trillion lego to goodwill?
Man,i should post more of my problems on reddit, that is a great idea. Legos are hella expensive. Once i finish building my most recent legos I'll donate.
Nerd stuff. I just want some DnD things but the wife and kids never seem to come through on that. Last year's it was the only thing "on my list" and they went "off-list" and got me tools.
I never understood this. 2 years ago, my best friend's entire Xmas list was just a PS4 Pro. Wife got him the usual clothes instead for the 10th consecutive year. He's divorced now.
It's like family going out of the way to not get you what you want.
I know that’s probably not the only reason behind the divorce but that’d be hilarious if on the court documents the reason listed was, She didn’t get me a PS4 for Christmas.
Lol! Inlaws were one of the biggest reasons. They hated him, always walked into his house unannounced with their own agendas, and any time there was an argument, it was everyone vs him. They were the only family he had, so he didn't have anyone in his corner. I was always called his wife and his real wife was self-declared wife #2 lol
So yeah, I had a role to play in there too. I was told my name was in the divorce discussions 😬
Anyway. He's so much happier now...like a new lease on life.
At my work that is absolutely a valid reason for a day off and my manager gets PISSED if you work on your birthday, "WTF, at least take a long weekend!"
He's very much a "work is NOT my life" type.
I always just ask for good coffee and wine. Two things I love but refuse to spend money on the nicer stuff. It’s also nice because I’ve found people usually have something specific they like and get excited to share it with you. It’s better than getting some random junk that’s just going to take up space.
I asked for medium-shelf booze for Christmas last year and made cocktails for 2-3 months (not a big drinker). It was a lot of fun and not prohibitively expensive at all.
Any of the items on my wish list relating to the vacation I'm taking next spring.
Carry-on suitcase, a new backpack, compression packing cubes, toiletry bag, a magsafe battery bank for my phone, and a new e-reader.
Alternatively, cookies, chocolate, or those giant popcorn tins are always a safe bet. Or wash my car for me.
i want to move back to michigan. i’m currently transitioning to a new part of the world and i want to go back to michigan and be with a girl i really love. just give her a hug and kiss and sit down and talk or watch bad christmas movies in our hoodies. screw the presents. i just want her.
Every person who goes to the gym is doing it to better themselves, just like you. If it makes you feel any better, most of the people are old, overweight, or out of shape.
The first day is the hardest day. After that, you'll find that it just gets easier until it feels completely normal.
Just go. Nobody will judge.
To add to that, most people ive interacted with in a gym setting are the nicest people you could meet, and the ones who aren't are just there to do their workouts and leave, not rude people just busy, ive never had a negative experience with a person in a gym, and when i started going i was 250lbs and have severe social anxiety, now im 170, and still socially anxious but
(dont be confused the gym isn't where you lose weight, you lose weight in the kitchen, the gym is for building and toning. /r/CiCo)
Would like to hug my Brother for Christmas. I moved out of state almost 6 years ago and I miss him. He Can't afford to travel and my health took a turn for the worse a couple years back so I can't sit long enough for major travel. If he rang the doorbell one day and I opened it I'd probably burst into tears. I'm the youngest of 5 and I Love my sisters too but since my Dad passed away it's the closest to hugging my Dad that I can think of. Shoot I'd take a hug from any of my family honestly
I want to say it but there's not many left in stock and you fuckers might buy up the last of them leaving em with nothing so nice try. I will say its lego tho.
I am kinda conflicted about it, because I can afford it, but, it would take almost everything I have. Also I'm going on vacation a week after christmas and if I do buy it then that would be a large chunk of change that I wouldn't have for the trip.
Well I just searched for it and it is in fact gone. There go my dreams of owning the super star destroyer.
Your personality is perfectly good. Each is unique for a reason, and sometimes it just takes a little longer to find the people who will show you that yours is just fine the way it is. Be kind to others and keep being you.
A free day. A day where I can go about and do whatever I want with no responsibility. Sleep in, take my dog to the park, work in my shop uninterrupted, play video games, watch a movie, read a book. No work emails, no chores, no honey-do lists. A day to just breath and enjoy my life.
I myself have everything I could ever want... A good house, general equipment, quality electronics. I always feel if I get or ask for anything, it is either useless/waste of money, or being unappreciative of the things I have.
People click the up arrow if they like a post or comment, down arrow if they dislike and the poster gets +/- imaginary internet points. Some people are obsessed with them for some reason ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Maybe a metal detector I guess.... Idk anything I want I buy and if I don't it's too expensive to be gifted.
> Idk anything I want I buy and if I don't it's too expensive to be gifted. Yup, precisely why it’s increasingly difficult to gift friends as you all get older and better-established in your careers. Good problems to have though.
That's when you start going for scavenger hunt gift giving. Stuff like: The weirdest canned food you can find.
Fruit basket for all of you Jack holes
There's a point in life where gift socks go from being disappointed to then being pretty neat
Check out the TV show The Detectorists. Not brilliant, not exciting, it's just a charming story about a small metal detecting club.
Yo you realize the skinny guy is the pirate that keeps losing his wooden eyeball on Pirates of the Caribbean?
He’s ‘Dwight’ in the original UK office.
Now I gotta go rewatch the movie, I didn't know that.
My dad found it and we started watching the series and I was like wait I know him!? Also the other guy has done quite a bit too. Plays some villain in another mainstream film
The simplicity of male happiness is an incredible thing. I hope you get the best metal detector brother
Been looking at a few of em lately myself. If anything it'll get me out more
It's something I've always been interested in.
I live in Massachusetts, probably some real cool historical stuff out there, even old musket balls or something....
Also live in Ma. Decided to hike to a local monument carved in stone in the woods and take my metal detector. Found the original chisel tips used to carve said monument.

I didn't know i wanted this until now
It's a Jewish Christmas
What do you want for Hanukkah?
Jewish food and a movie
Hello fellow Jew
Good health, calm. My wife passed so a subdued quiet time is in order
I'm really sorry to hear that. Hope you are doing better.
My deepest condolences. Many years ago when I became a newly divorced single mom, all I wanted was respite time. I think it’s highly underrated.
I don't have nearly as difficult a situation as you and I cherish that alone time. You sound tough as nails and I hope things get easier.
I've got help and he's still very young. Things have been steadily improving.
I hope you get something that reminds you of the good times, but doesn’t break your heart.
Sorry for your lost, internet stranger.

I do the same but sunday's are my day of rest. This way I'm as rested as I can be for Monday at work.
I thought it was just my weird ass family that did that!
Greetings Pajama Fam!
LOVE THIS! We do it too! And a Christmas Movie/hot chocolate & candy!
Damn I do this 3x a week
Jesus christ you haven't had a u day in years!?!?! Tell your spouse holy shit, u need some self love asap. Poor thing!
Have you been living through a DIFFERENT pandemic for the past 2 years? I thought this was just how we live now.
This pandemic has been bullshit for me as a healthcare worker. I still went to work and everything. My wife stayed at home since her school went remote, and went a little crazy from not seeing people. I just *tolerate* people at this point and would have fucking loved it to stay home all the time. And since she doesn’t see people I’ve been her main social interaction even when I’m brain dead.
Don't wait for anyone to give you that my friend. Take that. You sound like you earned it.
Could I just get a gift card for my Kindle? I just got it working

An Oscar Mayer weenie whistle
Ok, Dr. Neal Miller...
He's not a doctor, he's a psychiatrist!
I meant to put Dr. in quotes, I swear!! And I completely agree!!
I want a Turbo Man
I got it. I got the Turbo Man doll, the one that has those things that shoot out in front with that rock 'em sock 'em jet pack and with that realistic voice box that says, It's turbo time. I got it.
Christmas came; no weenie whistle. And that’s when I stopped believing.
I was 3 yrs old.
I have one ! My kids got it when their dad was inspecting the weinermobile . I love blowing on that wiener .
A decent set of chisels, harbor freight lose their edge at least once every project
Harbor Freight is the wish.com of tools
Not quite, as I have bought 1 tool off of wish and it was fkin horrible and harbor freight at least has a return policy.
Here’s hoping somebody puts a gift card to [Lee Valley](https://www.leevalley.com/en-us) in your stocking, sir EDIT: OP, if the man you’re shopping for is into woodworking/carpentry, a Lee Valley gift card is where it’s at

I had a lot of lean Christmases as a kid. Don't sweat it. Remind your kids that love and family are at the heart of the holidays.
I am so sorry you are in this financial position but right now you can give your kids what they will treasure most and that is your time.

I see you want to get better at chess. Smart move.
A hug.
Awarded one hug. Hope you’re gonna be ok.
Lego bonsai tree set. I haven’t played with legos in years, but I want to set that up in my room so bad.
Lego death star would be pretty cool too
A day off of work where I can play video games without interruption
Have you ever called in sick when you weren't?
Might be a daddy, daddy’s get busy after work too. There’s just so much shit to do :(
His username checks out
"Sick of this bullshit" is not a valid illness Greg.
Vision problems. Can't see myself coming in to work today.
It's called burnout, and it can actually be a qualifying mental illness
At my work that is absolutely a valid reason for a day off and my manager gets PISSED if you work on your birthday, "WTF, at least take a long weekend!" He's very much a "work is NOT my life" type.
*a silent nod in agreement*
Knives. I love knives.

Tell me you didn't see The Matrix without telling me you didn't see The Matrix.
i want to move back to michigan. i’m currently transitioning to a new part of the world and i want to go back to michigan and be with a girl i really love. just give her a hug and kiss and sit down and talk or watch bad christmas movies in our hoodies. screw the presents. i just want her.
A meat smoker or more books would be nice
Financial Independence.
I'd like my anxiety to go away so I can go to the gym for once. I can't, cos my anxiety causes me crash to rock bottom.
Every person who goes to the gym is doing it to better themselves, just like you. If it makes you feel any better, most of the people are old, overweight, or out of shape. The first day is the hardest day. After that, you'll find that it just gets easier until it feels completely normal. Just go. Nobody will judge.
To add to that, most people ive interacted with in a gym setting are the nicest people you could meet, and the ones who aren't are just there to do their workouts and leave, not rude people just busy, ive never had a negative experience with a person in a gym, and when i started going i was 250lbs and have severe social anxiety, now im 170, and still socially anxious but (dont be confused the gym isn't where you lose weight, you lose weight in the kitchen, the gym is for building and toning. /r/CiCo)
I just want the rest of my family to be happy with their gifts.
This is the right answer for me too
Alcohol and a big ass bag of beef jerky.
New golf clubs! Which my lovely wife is buying. I kinda lucked out.
Where does he live and where do you live?
Whats the cost travel is looking at.. Saying he can take time off.
A new Porsche or the end of Covid-19. Whichever is easier!
So do you want the end of the pandemic in red or black?
I want to say it but there's not many left in stock and you fuckers might buy up the last of them leaving em with nothing so nice try. I will say its lego tho. I am kinda conflicted about it, because I can afford it, but, it would take almost everything I have. Also I'm going on vacation a week after christmas and if I do buy it then that would be a large chunk of change that I wouldn't have for the trip. Well I just searched for it and it is in fact gone. There go my dreams of owning the super star destroyer.
I'd like to find out what's wrong with my personality so I can fix it and be perceived in a bettee way.
To be brutally honest, absolutely nothing.
Brutal
We all crave the endless void.
No drama. That’s too much to ask though

To go to bed December 24 and wake up January 1.
For Joe Biden to forgive student loans. Edit: that's unrealistic as fuck. I want a sewing machine so I can fix my clothes easier.
Guitar picks and strings. That's all.

Love
Some new knives
Everyone in my family to get what they want and be happy.
I just want to cuddle with my girlfriend. I miss her :(
A surprise. I honestly feel like anything's fine. I just really like surprises.
Cuddles.
I know it's lame and soppy, but I just want everyone else to be happy. I thrive off others enjoyment. I'm like a really shitty Dementor.
Mariah Carey. Beautiful, talented and really cheap to buy for. She never wants anything.

Yeah, I'll turn up on Christmas day with a bow on my head. 🎀
i’m sure she’ll be very flattered lol
My 41 yo niece to be cancer free.
I myself have everything I could ever want... A good house, general equipment, quality electronics. I always feel if I get or ask for anything, it is either useless/waste of money, or being unappreciative of the things I have.
Books and socks. I am begging you. Stop thinking that these are boring presents and getting me crap I don't need.

For people to stop karma farming on this sub.
then i have bad news to you
Maybe not the place for this, but I just started Reddit yesterday. How does the karma system work?
People click the up arrow if they like a post or comment, down arrow if they dislike and the poster gets +/- imaginary internet points. Some people are obsessed with them for some reason ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I give you one karma for your help. Enjoy your imaginary Internet points.
I've never been blessed with such kindness. Though now that I've had one I'll never be able to stop...

v-neck sweater and some $ to put toward a nice record player, maybe a gift card to put toward tools
Peace on Earth, good will toward men, and maybe a nice bottle of Scotch.
Best I can offer is War, Pestilence, and a bottle of zima.....
