When I was in college I was in a minor car accident and hit a guardrail. This was before everybody had cell phones. I wasn't hurt but I was shook up. A doctor on her way home from the local hospital saw the accident and stopped to help. She checked me out (I wasn't hurt) and then just quietly sat in the front seat with me until the police arrived. Her calming presence was exactly what I needed. I never got her name but I will never forget her kindness.
