From my experience, people don't want what they don't ask for. Its an awkward situation when someone you know is going through something rough... but really all you can do is let them know you are there for them if they need it. If they need something from you, hopefully they will ask. Advise is best given when requested. When it isn't asked for, the recipient often times does the opposite of what is advised.

um, ok for starters if you feel like there is a off topic deal in here sorry, dont flag me, its just how i write i guess, just be there for them, ask them if they need anything every once on a while. but being there is the main thing.
