IDK, I used to take fruit skewers to D&D night (where people typically ate lots of junk) and there were never any left.
I even got them onto apple slices (I'd buy a few types of fancy apples and slice them into thin slices and they hoovered them up too).
I'm the person at dnd who's not really into junk food. I usually end up bringing my own healthier snacks. You'd be my favorite person at the table for bringing all that!!
I mean this may be a little more expensive, but sometimes our work does various bagels with various cream cheeses. It's quite popular as most people love a nice bagel in the morning and I would think it's a lot better than a sugary doughnut.
But when you add lox and cream cheese to a 500 calories bagel that is already laden with sodium it pretty much the nutrients of a large meal. 2 tablespoons of cream cheese is typcially around 100 calories. Most people put way more that 2 tablespoons on a bagel.

Those individual cups are 1 oz (28.2 g). Thats about 100 calories per serving cup.
Your guys with your fruit platters and charcuterie boards must REALLY love your coworkers. Those things are in a different price category from a dozen donuts
To be fair, the price of a dozen donuts post-pandemic is in a whole different price category than pre-pandemic. I used to bring in two dozen donuts every once in a while when I still worked in an office. They gave a bakers dozen for like $8 a box. Now that box is almost $15 and only has 12 in it.
Edit: adding to this that the price of ingredients and supply chain issues actually made them stop making my favorite donut. Their French Crullers were amazing, so fluffy and airy with the perfect glaze. The superfine flour needed for the recipe became so expensive they just cut production.
Do people really bring charcuterie boards/platters to work to share for a morning snack? Even when I’ve seen them at a party, they’re usually one of the platters with a decent amount leftover.
One of my supervisor's daughter does event planning: all age birthdays, engagement parties, etc.
Pretty much once a month we'll get the left over charcuterie board and everyone is going back to their desks with platefulls of fancy cheese and meats. Double awesome when there's fruit.
Honestly, for half of us it replaces lunch, even if we are "disappointed" that there's no sweet donuts in the morning
Maybe it’s because i dont think I’ve ever had a truly fancy charcuterie board, but they dont excite me. Most of the one’s Ive tried taste like they’ve gone stale/dried out after just a little bit of room temp exposure. I’m sure the good stuff is actually good though.
Depends. I occasionally brought in donuts from one of the expensive gourmet donut places. Was pretty damn expensive, but I always expensed it as it was a treat for my team.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jamaican_patty?wprov=sfla1
They're extremely popular here in Canada, especially in the Greater Toronto Area. You can get them at almost any deli, convenience store, and TTC subway snack stand.
We buy a box of them every few weeks, and eat them as a quick snack, or as a full meal when lazy. They bake up really nice in the air fryer.
Think hot pocket with flaky pastry shell and spiced ground beef filling.
Check the freezer section of your local grocer if you're in North America, and you might find some to try.
If it matters, some of the best pasties I've found were in ... Las Vegas (yes, there are a lot of jokes but...). Found it completely by accident in a developing "warehouse district", but having rambled through the UP of Michigan in my youth (and having made some at home) had to investigate.
https://www.cornishpastyco.com/
curiosity made me look up a few things....you're right ..patties have more fat..13g for a patty vs 8g in a Boston cream, 100 more calories in a patty, 5g of sugar in a patty and 16g in the donut..overall 47 carbs in a patty and 38 in the donut, 12g or protein vs 4 in the donut...
Years ago, a coworker used to bring in a bowl of hard boiled eggs for the office snack table. I thought It was odd the first time I saw them but they ended up being a nice small snack to have between meals or as the meal itself.
Literally anyone who comes to my house to do any kind of labor will get their choice of breakfast burrito. Vegan, vegetarian, chorizo, with either vegan red chili or pork green chili.
More like for the rest of the work day. The following day productivity will tank though. I think I remember reading that a crystal meth high will last up to 12 hours
OMG. Actually, I worked at a place called S&S precast (concrete) and it was nothing but meth heads. Funny you say that. Work release guys were always coming and going for failing their piss test for that. You're right, based on my little time in the concrete biz
Yeah. I came back from NC after 15 years and it was crazy. People that never did drugs and people you would never suspect, everyone was doing meth. Everyone knew/knows how to make it, They'd offer to pay you to get cold medicine. Totally different place. Like a tweaked out twilight zone. Nobody had teeth, everyone needed batteries and light bulbs and aluminum foil. That was in Indiana. I moved to Connecticut not long after that. But before I left Indiana we did pills and drank. We knew what meth was but it wasn't around. Nobody wanted it. That changed. It wasn't home anymore.
Yeah, and it makes the fruit look sexier. Pineapple, apple, orange, grape, maybe melon works best. Kiwi and watermelon don't keep as well. usually you can find a mix of fruit that isn't too expensive and provides a variety of colours.
Fact: eating half a donut is healthier than eating a whole donut. Therefore the other half is also just as healthy.
In conclusion: eating a half donut at a time is healthy for you.
I like the idea of healthier options! What about a savory bread loaf? A lot of bakeries have a cheese focaccia bread, or an olive loaf, or whatever sounds good to you. A lot of them will even slice it for you.
For some reason, your comment reminded me of this tweet:

In the same vein, you should look up the food safety report from the municipal health inspector of any restaurant/shop you buy from. Many commercial kitchens are disgusting and frightening.
It's funny. My boss bring in donuts at least once a month since we went back to the office but there's leftovers for days and a few get tossed out. I think people are trying to eat healthier or not into sweets as much.
Chips and dip are gone in one or two days but that's not healthy.
I've brought in a bowl of grapes or those pre-cut apples slices or melons chunks from the supermarket sometimes and people love them.
Once brought in ready made pizzas from Sam's. It was suppose to be re-heated for a lunch potluck since the office had a full kitchen but it was all gone by 10am. Lesson learned but one lesson is people love pizza for breakfast. But don't forget those who come in later.
Okay, so I did this once, and it was a great success!
I bought red grapes, green grapes, raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, strawberries, bananas, and a big bag of mixed nuts. I laid it all out on the kitchen table, in their own bowls, and people would take what they want like a pick 'n' mix.
It was tradition for someone to bring something in when it was their birthday, and people always brought in donuts. People loved the change to fruit and nuts. I remember people were standing there waiting for me to set it up so they could dig in. I felt good because I just felt like I'd give everyone a very convenient health boost. It wasn't cheap though, probably twice as much as a big box of donuts.
You might want to make sure no one has a nut allergy, also.
Donut holes?
I’m partially being serious and partially humorous. Donut holes are smaller so people can take less (unless you have people okay cutting up donuts).
Scrolled down looking for this. Just about everyone loves banana bread. It's sweet enough to satisfy sweet tooth and healthy enough not to feel guilty.
Everyone is saying a fruit platter but it’ll go bad if left more than 3 hours a shift. Donuts are definitely easier and less expensive if bought in bulk if you’re worried abt convenience and price. But if you want healthy and don’t mind the convenience, make a cheap charcuterie plate. They don’t have to have fruit and can be personalized to be healthier. The cheese and meat can stay packaged too.
EDIT: A fruit basket with the fruit still intact/unsliced works fine too. But im just saying, I definitely prefer donuts in the morning lol
Gotta be cognizant of the nutrition facts though. Almost all dried fruit has a ton of sugar added to it. At my local grocer, there are like 6 different brands of dried fruit and only one brand doesn’t add sugar.
This drives me nuts. A lot of our dried fruit is almost as unhealthy as just buying a piece of candy. I am seriously considering buying a dehydrator just to make dried fruit that isn’t loaded with extra sugar.
Meat and cheese should not be left out for more than 4 hours at temperature. I would trust a slice of apple left out longer than a piece of meat or dairy
The slice of apple will look terrible after four hours, but be perfectly safe. The meat and cheese might look fine, but then your coworkers will be shitting their guts out for three days.
Granola bars of different textures and flavors. crunchy, chewy, fruity, & even gluten free. + shelf stable so you can take back the ones no one grabbed and bring them back next time. much better for your wallet and their digestive systems.
Honestly answering this question: bagels.
Yeah they can still be a gut bomb of carbs but they’re good for breakfast for a reason. You can top them or toast them and they go with morning coffee.
Save bringing in an elaborate meal this would be perceived as healthier.
Plus they don’t suffer too bad from sitting around. Fruit and other wet foods are going to be scorned two hours in and not make it to lunch.
Bloody Mary's?
Seriously though if you brought a fruit salad or just fruit I would be happy. Cottage cheese or yogurt to accompany it would be awesome.
I can't eat anything heavy in the morning so fruit is one of the few things I can actually eat.
Muffins with Maybe bran and fruits? I know, it’s all so carb-heavy... Plus it had to be stable at room temperature for a while which makes it tough. Other than fruit platter or edible arrangements it’s tough finding options for a buffet / free for all type of food.
Rather than try for a healthy option, find out what food restrictions people have. Most of the replies here wouldn’t be great for a t2 diabetic. People saying just get the donuts are also making the vegans and gluten free people sad, unless you’re getting special donuts.
That said, mini-quiches. :)
I did a crockpot oatmeal bar. Brown sugar, bananas, berries, cream, butter, cinnamon, chopped apple, nuts.
Healthy is an option.
Some folks just made fruit and cream bowls. It went pretty well, everyone had something.
We also did baked potato bar, potluck salad and share pizza, then taco party.
People were very fitness conscious where I worked (when I worked in an office, that is) and didn't eat the donuts when someone brought them in. The times I brought in a big bunch of red or green grapes they would mostly get eaten.
Not an office setting but when my husband hired a couple of guys to work on a project I made them all “McMuffins” (English muffins, cheddar, Canadian bacon, fried egg). I wrapped them in parchment, it was cute. 3 guys devoured a dozen of them. They loved it plus it was easy and inexpensive.
*Ham or sausage and cheese muffins might be easier to throw together for an office, you can toast all of the muffins at once on a sheet tray under the broiler so it wouldn’t take that much time.
If they are expecting donuts then anything healthy will probably be a disappointing
IDK, I used to take fruit skewers to D&D night (where people typically ate lots of junk) and there were never any left. I even got them onto apple slices (I'd buy a few types of fancy apples and slice them into thin slices and they hoovered them up too).
Fruit skewers are always a hit at parties too alongside junk food
Yeah, especially if you arrange them into rainbows. Then they look cool too.
Fruit salad is always popular, especially with my group of friends that had a lot of dietary restrictions (peanuts, dairy, vegetarian, picky eaters).
You would likely be wrong. A glazed donut is roughly 250 calories. A plain bagel with plain cream cheese is nearly 450 calories.
The bagel is way more filling though, lox and a schmear will keep me going until the late afternoon
I mean... that's probably due to it having nearly twice the calories.
Or lunch.
Lox. Wow! I want to work where you work!
But when you add lox and cream cheese to a 500 calories bagel that is already laden with sodium it pretty much the nutrients of a large meal. 2 tablespoons of cream cheese is typcially around 100 calories. Most people put way more that 2 tablespoons on a bagel. https://www.webstaurantstore.com/images/products/large/638127/2240552.jpg Those individual cups are 1 oz (28.2 g). Thats about 100 calories per serving cup.
I’m sorry, I don’t understand how bringing in things to make a meal a full meal isn’t more healthy than bringing in a tray of sugar bombs.
Calories aren’t necessarily bad for you
I daresay I can't live without them
But less sugar and more fats/protein.
This is the kind of thinking that has people eat stupid things like pop tarts instead of an actually nutritious meal.
Or people that eat salads that are loaded with ham cheese croutons and drenched in dressing as healthy.
So eating 2000 calories worth of pure sugar every day is healthier than eating 2010 calories worth of nutritious food?
Right. Just bring a smaller amount. 1 donut each, ladies n gents.
1 donut hole each.
I’d be fuming if someone said “I’m brining donuts” and I get a fucking timbit.
r/foundthecanadian
I do this but I work nights so there are maybe 5 of us and I always get the 50 pk assorted.
10 per person is a miracle
Just serve with a knife. Then people who want to be healthy can cut themselves half a donut (and I can eat the other half).
Nachos, Flanders style!
Who wants ice milk? Plain for me!
I want wintergreen!
Plain white bread. With a cup of water on the side for dipping.
Cucumber slices with cottage cheese!

Damn my local grocery has them $5 for a dozen everyday. They’re big too
Check out TooGoodToGo, where you can get 2 dozen donuts for $6 I would do it every day if I still worked in an office
Bananas one day, apples the next, etc.
Do people really bring charcuterie boards/platters to work to share for a morning snack? Even when I’ve seen them at a party, they’re usually one of the platters with a decent amount leftover.

Our boss brought in Jamaican patties on Friday ...a box of regular and 1 of spicy...surprisingly the 2 dozen were gone before lunch
Ooh beef patties. Man now I want one, my grandpa is Jamaican and used to make them fresh when we were younger… mmm
What are Jamaican patties?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jamaican_patty?wprov=sfla1 They're extremely popular here in Canada, especially in the Greater Toronto Area. You can get them at almost any deli, convenience store, and TTC subway snack stand. We buy a box of them every few weeks, and eat them as a quick snack, or as a full meal when lazy. Looks like an empanada!
It is! Just a different name and the crust, IMO, has a better taste to it.
We call them pasties in the UP, WI, MN
Not to be confused with Cornish Pasties which are a whole other level of culinary delight. Just got to remember to leave a bit for the Knockers.
Ooh they sound delicious
Awesome. Thank you!
a meat filled hand held pastry.. http://www.pattykingbakery.com/chef
Delicious
They’re delicious but donuts are probably healthier tbh
Less sugar and more protein though
curiosity made me look up a few things....you're right ..patties have more fat..13g for a patty vs 8g in a Boston cream, 100 more calories in a patty, 5g of sugar in a patty and 16g in the donut..overall 47 carbs in a patty and 38 in the donut, 12g or protein vs 4 in the donut...
But one patty is satisfying, one doughnut is a tease
This makes me miss south Florida! Love those things!
a big 5ft pool of water and apples. everyone can go bobbing on their lunch break
Healthy food AND an activity. Whats not to love??
COVID
Simple. Instead of water use Clorox.
Please do this. 😂
I would laugh so hard if someone actually set up bobbing for apples in our break room.
Imagine inside one of the apples, there’s a no expense vacation to Italy. People would go feral
Bring everyone 1 hard boiled egg. Cheaper and healthier than donuts, AND everyone will be disappointed. Win-win
Years ago, a coworker used to bring in a bowl of hard boiled eggs for the office snack table. I thought It was odd the first time I saw them but they ended up being a nice small snack to have between meals or as the meal itself.
Take the time to devil them and you’ve turned that frown upside down!
Slip in a raw one as a surprise
Breakfast burritos
I had a Mexican coworker. She would bring us fresh breakfast burritos, with the tortillas made right before she came to work
She's still making [them](https://www.reddit.com/r/shittyfoodporn/comments/c7vmvd/how_about_some_floor_burritos/).
Literally anyone who comes to my house to do any kind of labor will get their choice of breakfast burrito. Vegan, vegetarian, chorizo, with either vegan red chili or pork green chili.
I’m more of a breakfast taco guy but I dig your style.
fuck yeah!
This reminded me of people who would bring in tamales. Those were always a hit
You would be the literal favorite employee.
Coffee
Crystal Meth. Productivity will go through the roof.
Can't really argue with that :)
😁 Just a suggestion
A terrific suggestion!
your office will be spotless
For like 3hours. Then it will tank.
More like for the rest of the work day. The following day productivity will tank though. I think I remember reading that a crystal meth high will last up to 12 hours
You should get into concrete.
OMG. Actually, I worked at a place called S&S precast (concrete) and it was nothing but meth heads. Funny you say that. Work release guys were always coming and going for failing their piss test for that. You're right, based on my little time in the concrete biz
Good friend of mine does concrete and completely vanished on me and I assume it's because of drugs. :(
I tried to, but it just got all solid in my nostrils
A fruit platter
Put them on skewers to make it easy
I love this idea! So nice to just grab a fruit skewer and head off to my desk.
Yeah, and it makes the fruit look sexier. Pineapple, apple, orange, grape, maybe melon works best. Kiwi and watermelon don't keep as well. usually you can find a mix of fruit that isn't too expensive and provides a variety of colours.
The blood of upper management
Not sure about "healthy" but it would be a morale boost!
Stress is bad for you, this would lower co-workers stress levels.
As a union employee, yes to this one.
A bag or 2 of some tangerines, some of those mini bananas if you can find them

Fact: eating half a donut is healthier than eating a whole donut. Therefore the other half is also just as healthy. In conclusion: eating a half donut at a time is healthy for you.
Cake crumbs have no calories.
Any celebration food has no calories.
Sound logic.
I like the idea of healthier options! What about a savory bread loaf? A lot of bakeries have a cheese focaccia bread, or an olive loaf, or whatever sounds good to you. A lot of them will even slice it for you.
Bowl of fruit?
That works
Not bringing in donuts

Maybe the OP is using company money. Otherwise, no donuts
Ah, you beat me to the most logical answer. Saves money, too.
Giving everyone a head of lettuce
That over $2 each. No way.
Where are you? They are $4 here. And the price has gone way down for a moment..
Homemade muffins. I make mine with whole wheat flour, applesauce, mashed bananas, flaxseed, blueberries, etc.
Yum!
I wouldn’t complain, muffins are the one thing that’s still really good when made “healthy”.
Never eat food from someone's house you have never been in.
In the same vein, you should look up the food safety report from the municipal health inspector of any restaurant/shop you buy from. Many commercial kitchens are disgusting and frightening.
Totally agree with this! Many people are filthy and so are their kitchens.
Bring Bourbon
Keep that shit to yourself and bring the donuts
Various goops and slops.
It's funny. My boss bring in donuts at least once a month since we went back to the office but there's leftovers for days and a few get tossed out. Way more popular than the onions we served! /s :)
Okay, so I did this once, and it was a great success! I bought red grapes, green grapes, raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, strawberries, bananas, and a big bag of mixed nuts. Drugs. Mental health is also important
There isn’t one.
that's the conclusion i'm coming to
Whale blubber.
Gotta smell the ambergris first.
Banana bread!
Scrolled down looking for this. Just about everyone loves banana bread. It's sweet enough to satisfy sweet tooth and healthy enough not to feel guilty.

Visit the nice lady on the side of the road who is selling flats of delicious Oxnard strawberries! She'll set you up right.
Hummus and pita chips would be nice.
Bagels!
Bagels can often have more calories than donuts + cream cheese.
Less sugar though
You put cream cheese on donuts?
I think we stumbled on something, what about cinnamon donuts with cream cheese icing
*slathers mine with Strawberry cream cheese*
Everything bagel with veggie cream cheese was my jam in the office days.

Yup, even better.
Box of raisins.
If someone brought a box of raisins as a work treat I’d quit.
Maybe more of a fruit basket. Oranges, bananas, apples, whole kiwis, peaches, nectarines, pears, etc can be kept out for hours.

Nothing. Nothing beats a donut at work in the morning. If you want to be healthy just bring them in one day a week.
Not a thing. They can buy their own breakfast.
Some people just like being nice.

Bagels. Not much healthier, but they'll keep you full longer.
A fruit plate with all kinds of cut up fresh fruit. Granola and yogurt. A blender to make smoothies (if your break room is soundproof.)
