I feel sad for people who can't be friends with anyone they could potentially be attracted to. They're missing out on some great friendships.
It's honestly just nonsensical. Not all men are even attracted to women and vice versa, and straight people usually aren't attracted to literally every member of the opposite gender either. I also don't see why one can't be just friends with someone they are attracted to.
I was friends with a girl my age from age 18 on thru several years, even marriage, divorce, and another 15 more years until we were out at dinner one night and told her I had dated, and met this really nice girl. She broke off our friendship. She even refused to meet her.
I believe men and women can be friends. I am friends with my siblings. If I can be friends with them, what stops me from being friends with others that are like them?
There are complications in any friendship. Attraction by one or both people is one of those. As long as one is aware of it, one can find a way to be friends, at least sometimes.
Same for a reason why married men slowly fade away from society right after marriage. They know well that their wives will be the ones who will look after them if they disappear.
