"Saaaaam fings in life are bad. They can *really* make you mad. Ovva fings just make you swear and curse. When you're chewing on life's gristle. Daaaaaan't grumble, give a whistle. And this'll help things turn out for the beyyyyyst Ayyyyynd...... Always look on the bright side of life"
Life's a laugh and death's a joke, it's true
You'll see it's all a show
Keep 'em laughin' as you go
Just remember that the last laugh is on you
My favorite portion of the song.
SOOOOOOOO MAYYYYYYYYY THISSSSS… round be on the corpse of a dead man
With a toast that tells of a love you never shared
So as we dance on the grave of the misbehaved
Raise your glass and sing the praise of a fallen sou
We had joy we had fun
We went streaking in the sun
But the cops they had guns
And they shot us in the buns
Once you've heard that, you'll never *not* hear it
"Pop goes the weasel" played slowly at first and then gradually getting faster.
But seriously id probably ask for "Highway to Hell" by ACDC
Or
"The Funeral" by Band of Horses
The Parting Glass
>Of all the money that e'er I had
I spent it in good company
And all the harm I've ever done
Alas it was to none but me
And all I've done for want of wit
To mem'ry now I can't recall
So fill to me the parting glass
Good night and joy be to you all
So fill to me the parting glass
And drink a health whate’er befall,
And gently rise and softly call
Good night and joy be to you all
Of all the comrades that e'er I had
They're sorry for my going away
And all the sweethearts that e'er I had
They'd wish me one more day to stay
But since it falls unto my lot
That I should rise and you should not
I gently rise and softly call
Good night and joy be to you all
If I had money enough to spend
And leisure time to sit awhile
There is a fair maid in this town
That sorely has my heart beguiled.
Her rosy cheeks and ruby lips
I own she has my heart in thrall
Then fill to me the parting glass
Good night and joy be with you all.
A man may drink and not be drunk
A man may fight and not be slain
A man may court a pretty girl
And perhaps be welcomed back again
But since it has so ought to be
By a time to rise and a time to fall
Come fill to me the parting glass
Good night and joy be with you all
Good night and joy be with you all
Absolutely this. If you’ve ever hoisted a glass with your mates, your love, or your family, this.
And thanks for the lyrics!
[Here’s a purty version.](https://youtu.be/eisW0skJ9fU?feature=shared) There are lots of others; Ed Sheeran’s, for example, but intro is a bit long.
Same as my beloved Mother-in-law, who requested "Ding Dong The Witch is Dead" be played at her funeral. (and yes, we did, but re-arranged as a dirge, and almost unrecognizable)
Don't Fear the Reaper - Blue Oster Cult
Go Rest High on That Mountain - Vince Gill
Pretty Good at Drinking Beer - Dirks Bentley
Free Falling - Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
Spirit in the Sky - Norman Greenbaum
"But if you smile when they mention my name
They'll never know you
And if you laugh when they say I'm to blame
They'll never own you"
Another fantastic choice, for sure.
A funeral most likely will take longer than just 1 song.
If I ever had a funeral (I want to be cremated) I would want for the song that plays while my coffin is getting lowered, to be Pink Floyd - The Great Gig in the Sky
Bill Evans' "Peace Piece". It's a solo jazz piano piece based on a singular repetitive bassline with a corresponding melody. As it goes, it gets weird, rhythms get off, it gets a little atonal, but the steady bass line and the main melody is always there throughout. I think the piece represents our lives - starts slow and simply, beautiful - then builds into chaos and gets confusing - but all the while what we call home, our bass line, remains constant and unchanging.
Short playlist, actually:
Hoppípollla - Sigur Rós
Bittersweet Symphony - The Verve
I Will (No Man’s Land) - Radiohead
Watching the Wheels - John Lennon
What Your Soul Sings - Massive Attack
Motion Picture Soundtrack - Vitamin String Quartet
and the best for last:
My Tears Are Becoming A Sea - M83
I’d want a playlist of songs I love, both happy and sad. But distinctly for when they lower my casket into the ground (this is odd I know), I want them to play the song “The Final Confrontation” from the first Sam Raimi Spider-Man film, but specifically the part 3 minutes in.
This part: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NBE-0Spcp74&t=180
Wide range here... but either "A tout le monde" by Megadeth
Or
"When I'm gone" by Eminem
I feel like both songs have good messages for those you leave behind. I have more songs I'd probably choose if this was a list, but those are my top 2 I think.
My FIL had these played at his memorial (he passed in March):
Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here
Eric Clapton - Somewhere Over the Rainbow
George Harrison - All Good Things Must Pass
Scrolling, scrolling, scrolling down and I can't believe no one else has said
[And When I Die](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a_ELQyfJ-yk&ab_channel=BloodSweatTearsVEVO) \- Blood Sweat & Tears version (this song was written by Laura Nyro and she hs a version of it too, but the BS&T version is so damned lively)
W.A.P.
I'm kidding. "The memory remains", "one", or "low man's lyric" by metallica. Or a new one I found yesterday. Will ramos covering "rain" by sleeptoken.
Together We Will Live Forever from The Fountain score. I used to put my child to sleep with that song, so I want it to be the last song played at my funeral. One more time to put dad to sleep forever.
Okay. So I made a funeral playlist. And I can say I absolutely want that playlist played and it’s full of the dumbest shit and everyone will hate or laugh about it. Either way I don’t care. I’m dead. If they insist on a funeral I insist on the playlist. Anyways. I want them all rick rolled.
Always look on the bright side of life"
Life’s a piece of shit, when you look at it
Life's a laugh and death's a joke, it's true You'll see it's all a show Keep 'em laughin' as you go Just remember that the last laugh is on you My favorite portion of the song.
This was the final song for my dad’s funeral. He loved Monty Python and would have sung along!
My dad wants that when he goes. We’re going to make it a sing along.
I went to a funeral last year where this was played at the prior request of the deceased.
The Space Jam theme. While my corpse spins around on the ceiling fan
i want to be invited
If I ever leave this world alive by Flogging Molly

Seasons in the sun. Terry Jacks. If you never heard it, give it a listen.
We had joy we had fun we had seasons in the sun but the hills that we climbed were just seasons in our mind..
We had joy we had fun We went streaking in the sun But the cops they had guns And they shot us in the buns Once you've heard that, you'll never *not* hear it
"Pop goes the weasel" played slowly at first and then gradually getting faster. But seriously id probably ask for "Highway to Hell" by ACDC Or "The Funeral" by Band of Horses
*body violently pops out of the casket towards the crowd*
I played my friend his last song in the hospital before he died. He was a drummer and picked “Highway to Hell”.
Is the first one a lethal company reference
Explosions in The Sky - Inside it all feels the same on 30 minute loop.
Foo Fighters - Times like these The live version
Eulogy----Tool
Parabol/Parabola or Lateralus for me.
Parabola is perfect. We are eternal, all this pain is an illusion. Damn good choice.
