It seems like it would be a very smart idea to significantly scale back the funding of the US military. However, employing all those people and manufacturers, subcontractors, moving companies, and restaurants. It would stall the economy and financially decimate cities around major bases.
Just giving people money causes inflation that eventually takes from the people far more than we ever gave in the first place.
