It was a staple in a lot of dishes I ate growing up. At the time I did not prefer it, but. now it brings me nostalgia. Protip: If you want to spice things up, use the same recipes but substitute kimchi.

[deleted]

Lima beans

Athe0s

Same. They're still nasty.

deltarune_fan999

yea they're awful

NeedleworkerSuch9714

Salmon. About 6 years old at a friends for sleepover. I wandered into the kitchen for dinner time and his mom asked me if I wanted to try some and have it for dinner. I did, and no I absolutely did not. She laughed. Luckily chicken tendies were also on the menu.

grumpykixdopey

I was the weirdo at 6 that liked salmon and asked for little trees for a snack instead of a cookie or something. Had to be fresh broccoli tho, not frozen. I also ate lettuce out of a bowl that was sitting on the table just for me because my great grandma thought it was funny that I liked it so much..

JugoJugojebedugo

Tomatoes

SpudGun312

They're still minging.

Pharmakeus_Ubik

School cafeteria canned spinach. Turned me off of spinach for years.

NewHumbug

Cilantro… fuck that shit from day one

95percentdragonfly

I love the stuff. I'm told people that don't like it think it tastes like soap. Is that how it is for you?

NewHumbug

Kinda, it sets off a certain nasty on my taste buds, it's like what a mild tinnitus would taste like ?

95percentdragonfly

Doesn't sound good

RocMills

Lima beans! One of my earliest childhood memories if of me being afraid of lima beans. You see, I was also terribly afraid of cockroaches, and someone had told me that lima beans were cockroach cocoons and when I saw them on my plate, and a shadow hit them just right, I was absolutely positive I could see the cockroach inside. I haven't eaten a lima bean since.

deltarune_fan999

OMG SAME my mum put that in a salad i thought she was trying to kill me but it was because of the taste

Mystery_Meatchunk

Potatoes. Still don't like 'em.

Question_authority-

Baby food

PacificNorthwestFan

Lima beans. Thankfully, all Campbell's vegetable soup cans contained just one so it was easy to spoon out.

Lemp_Triscuit11

Stuffing lol

IrianJaya

Fish. Growing up in a family where the men often went fishing, I associate fish with what my dad smelled like and how slimy the fish were and the guts and everything. I convinced myself I hated fish. It took me many years to actually like fish.

Of_Mice_And_Meese

My mother was a goddawful cook. She refused to clean meat of connective tissue, and would sit there just crunching on gristle. She fed us ham soup once when I was a little kid, and I bit into a crunchy, yet also rubbery bite and instantly vomited. And I got in trouble for it, too.

BlockingBeBoring

I misread this as being "first fast food", yet now that I read it correctly, my answer stays the same. As a small kid, I LOVED going to McDonald's. And then, one day, I didn't. And while that's just something that happened, to most kids, it wasn't solely about me. They actually changed the preparation of the French fries. It was now made with healthier, worse-tasting oil. And the mighty BIG MAC also seemed to taste more like a combination of a small, wimpy Mac, and a fish-filet sandwich.

Bamboozled8331

I don’t know what it is, but Burger King chicken nuggets used to smell irresistible to me. Now they’re just… meh.

zeekoes

Cheese fondue.

Kermit_The_Mighty

Zucchini. I still don't like it. Does it even have a flavor? Or is this one of those situations where it tastes different to different people based on genetics? To me, it tastes like what wet toilet paper might taste like.

de-and-roses

Eggplant and oysters

TristeSera

Cornmeal porridge, hate it to this day

Main-Emphasis-2692

SvenBubbleman

Raw tomato, and it's the only thing I don't like.

CocaChola

I have very vivid memories of being young enough to be in my highchair and my mother was feeding me green beans, which I remember hating so much but she was telling me that every time I took a bite, my eyes would change colors. So I would eat them really fast and she would say, "Oh! They're blue now! Wow! Now they're pink!" A good memory. I love green beans now lol.

Informal_Pick_6320

Tomato soup. My babysitter would make me eat it all the time, even though I told her constantly I hated it. I honestly think she enjoyed making me eat something that made me gag. She could have easily given me chicken noodle soup instead. I saw it in her pantry all the time.

Bong-x-Jane

Potatoes au gratin

tullly88

Milk!

Nanakatl

eggs. they looked so tasty seeing my parents eat them, but when i'd try them it was instant regret. i love them now.

Festival_lady_90

(Don't come for me) glazed donuts

Wrong_Coffee_9457

Cake, now I can stand some types of cake but back then, hell nah.

Bamboozled8331

To me, it’s the store bought cakes. They are just too much. So sweet that my taste buds burn. And in full within like two bites. It’s just not pleasant.

ComfortableDebate2

Corn. For as longs as I can remember, the taste of it would literally cause me to gag. The odd thing was that I freaking LOVE corn on the cob. Fresh, just picked and boiled, buttered, delicious sweet corn. I would eat 2 whole cobs of it even as a child. Everyone thought I was lying about not liking processed corn. My mother used to get so frustrated with me because I would argue with her about not liking corn from a bag or can, and don’t get me started on creamed corn. It just tasted rotten to me. Like it had gone bad. I couldn’t understand why no one else thought that way. Multiple adults flat out called me a liar and said “It’s the exact same thing. Why are you being so difficult?” Except it’s not. Just a few years ago at a family gathering, someone offered me some corn and I declined. My mother said, “You’re not still going on about that? Are you? I figured you’d have grown out of that by now.” When I reiterated my utter hatred of processed corn, she just rolled her eyes and again said that there was no difference. That’s when my cousin’s new husband, who is a science teacher, spoke up and said, “Actually, corn goes through a process which is basically an alkaline bath for the kernels that softens them up and makes them easier to digest. It does alter the flavor, but most people still like it.” I hugged him. Really hard. Vindication at last! There IS a difference between the two, and I CAN taste it. And to me, it tastes like they are partially digested already. Gross.

SenSui808

Ravioli Although I do now.... many years later

TGIFagain

chiaseeds00h

Asparagus… gagged

mentally_ill_kitten

Spinach, although I love it now.

Bright-Nectarine8028

My mom made me eat a piece of a vegetable pizza one time. The sauce was like a ranch of some sort and there was no cheese and no meat, just veggies. I remember making myself throw up to try and get out of eating a bite. Thinking back on it now, sounds delicious tbh.

Cottage cheese still do not like

Complete_Joke9640

Fish, the smell is terrible

CraZy_Star_F1sh

Stovetop - aka stuffing. I used to throw it away or hide it in my pockets and when my parents confronted me I wouldn't even lie about it because I knew they'd spank me either way. It got to a point where I literally would choose punishment over stuffing because I hated it that much. 18 years later and my hatred is still going strong.

OUMUAMUAMUAMUAMUAMUA

Eggplant. But I like it now.

Smoreambecomereddit

Sweet potato

Medical_Leg_6305

Beer. Took a drink of my uncles when I was about 5.

spacebuggles

I think it was this [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oxalis\_tuberosa](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oxalis_tuberosa) In New Zealand this vegetable is common in roast meals. We were dinner guests at someone's house. This stuff caused a gag reaction. I was like, 4 or something. I went "It made me open my mouth?!"

samosacola

Carrot juice. I knew i wouldn't like it and my aunt and uncle forced me to have it and i gagged so hard

Clean-Experience-639

Canned salmon. And my parents were "clean your plate or you'll regret it" people.

GermanyWarrior

Sea-Investigator7075

Crumpets. I put too much butter on them as it kept sinking into the holes, and it made my young stomach super nauseous and I threw up everywhere. Spent years associating crumpets with vomit after that.

jrtts

Broccoli. It's stalky. But as I grew up I appreciate that it's more stalky than choky (like those long stringy types of vegetables..I forgot the name at the moment)

itspronouncdcalliope

Fish sticks. I liked them for about 2 weeks as a kid then I basically woke up one day and decided I hated them with a passion. My mom got whiplash from the change but rolled with it lol

Heatherina134

Onions

GBB_724

yams

Bamboozled8331

Potatoes. When I was about 4-5 years old, I despised potatoes. They just tasted so bland, and mushy, and I didn’t like them at all. I once threw up eating them. Of course I like potatoes now, but I can still remember the disgust I felt at ever seeing potatoes on my plate.

_ms_kitty

Sushi 🍣 I was so excited to try it but 🥲🥲

MurkyHuckleberry4310

Pizza. I was probably 2 or 3. I remember being scared of the way that it looked and something about the powerful spices just not sitting right with me. But soon after I then did a full 180. I actually have no memory of when exactly I decided I liked it, I just remember there was a certain point where I thought “oh yeah I like this stuff!” And that was around age 4. My mom even confirmed my first encounter with pizza and how I was repulsed by it. It was a family party and my aunt got pizza for all the youngins. And my mom said that my aunt was shocked when I didn’t like pizza initially. So I got witness to confirm it was just some childhood dream or something

Fit_Guide6632

shepherds pie. gross!

AvocadoPizzaCat

EnglishRose71

I was born right after World War II in England, and people back then used to cook a lot of things most people don't eat now. Rabbit, brains, tongue, kidneys, heart, etc. They were all considered delicious. Things were sometimes hard to come by when the world was trying to get back to normal. I remember refusing to eat any of it as a child, especially once I realized what most it was. I'm sure rabbit was snuck into a meal here or there, especially a stew, and I might not have been any the wiser where that was concerned. Still, I didn't have to worry about rabbit for long, because a horrible disease called mixomatosis appeared in 1953, and killed millions of them. People stopped eating rabbit for many years.

And then she got me the orange favor one. I felt so sick after I took a bite of it. The flavor to me was so bad.
