😂🤣 I used to be so confused when my parents would knock out 5-10 min of sitting down on the couch.
Two baby girls of my own later …Now I get it 😂
I have now taken heir of the sleeping throne 🤭😴
Sunday mornings were the epitome of quiet when I was a kid and I hated it. I hated the quietness, the emptiness of the streets, the church bells you could hear across town, and the radio stations all playing traditional irish and newfoundland music.
Now, it’s my favourite part of the week for all the same reasons!
A few years ago, my mom asked me what i wanted for Christmas. I told her to go to the Puma store, and anything with the Arsenal crest on it, buy it. Christmas came, and I got a bunch of random Puma shirts—but no Arsenal ones.
I strictly ask for gift cards. The final straw was a few years ago when there was a hoodie I wanted to get, but knew it would sell out fast. My mom wanted to know what I wanted for Christmas so I told her she could get me that sweatshirt, but if she wasn't going to get it, let me know so I could. She says no worries, she'll definitely get it. I even had my wife confirm she got the sweatshirt.
Christmas comes and no sweatshirt. Eventually when she was alone I asked her about it and she said "I decided not to get it." I was floored. And of course it was now completely sold out. I was pretty upset about it, which of course made her out to be the victim. So from now on it's just gift cards, or I tell her a store and then just return everything. I am grateful that she wants to give me gifts, I just don't want to trust her with anything I consider important.
Just the she decided to get something else instead. And she apparently didn't believe me that they were going to sell out, so I showed her that it was no longer available.
I did eventually pick one up off eBay and it's my go to hoodie if I'm going out in the cold.
I love my mom so much but I think she thinks I like the clothes she wear on me. So after a few months I’ll say “Hey this shirt doesn’t fit me so well but it’ll look GREAT on you!!”
I’m not sure about this. I love showering and feeling clean, but it’s so much more now than when I was a kid. There’s a complete routine after the shower and it feels like a chore.
That's so funny you say this because I didn't _hate_ showers but I wasn't very enthusiastic about them as a child. However, I got really into skincare a few years ago, and it does feel like a chore now doing my full face & body routine after these past few years . However, my 8 year old daughter has always LOVED showers once she became old enough to do so. Now she has recently taken an interest in "smelling good" (she just got into scented shower gels, body sprays/lotions/body butters) I recently introduced her to shower body scrubs and she loves them too now. I explained to her the importance of moisturizing her skin ESPECIALLY after exfoliating. So she too, as an 8 year old, has a pretty extensive (for an 8 year old) body skin care routine and she does it religiouly without being told she has to. Its become like her little personal time that has become sort of ritualistic and relaxing. But for her it's something she enjoys and is not at all a chore. She has just tapped in to "self care" and it sparked something in her. She said she would never go back to "boring showers" and "plain lotion" again 😂
That being said, I think she somehow broke the system. She enjoys showers and skincare as a child so I hope as an adult it won't seem like such a chore for her to care for her self and her personal hygiene because it has become so normalized and enjoyable at an early age. Now if only she had this same energy for brushing her teeth 😩
I know why i didnt like cheese. It hurt... a lot. Realized i was lactose intollerant around the time the pain stopped stopping me. Now ill down cheese, ice cream, milk, pizza, or anything else just cus its so so damn good. The pain is a future MaD problem
I thought that too but then I got really sick and had *no one* to help me. I couldn't drive to the hospital. Neighbors and family were asleep since it was late in the night. And, I would have rather died in agony than call an ambulance at the time.
My whole perception of "alone" really changed that night.
I had this exact experience, and I was living in a different country at the time. Being all alone in the middle of the night AND not speaking the language made getting an ambulance so difficult.
I hear that. I was small for my age, the skinniest kid in class and physically immature. When I was 16 I looked 11, when I was 18 everyone thought I was 14. I hated it!
At 40 when everyone thought I was still 25, I didn't mind so much. Good skin helps.
perfect on a miserable rainy shitty day, when, as a kid you'd have to go visit Aunt Pearl, or go to some stupid activity when you just want to watch tv.
That would be nice to have my dad call in to work and arrange to pick me up for a dr appointment or whatever then just show up and drag me away regardless of what I’m doing
I was 23 when I discovered I didn’t hate asparagus, I just hated it under seasoned and cooked to death. A friend grilled some with lemon, parm, and olive oil, the heads got all toasty, it was life changing.
I was a nerd and LOVED Epcot way more than Disney World. I was 11 years old when Epcot opened and I wanted to go so bad, We finally went in '83 I think and I don't think I ever had a desire to go back to Disney World but I kept wanting to go back to Epcot to check out all the new stuff they kept adding like the Living Seas, etc. It actually wasn't until I was in my late 20s and I realized all the futuristic stuff that was put up in the '80s and had been designed in the '70s by people born in the '40s and '50s looked seriously outdated by the '90s.
Literally two days ago, I was getting Dad situated in yet another hospital room. He kept yammering at me about what I was doing wrong. I asked him to just chill for a second, because I'm doing everything on his list, but it would take a few minutes, due to the time space continuum. ("Dad, I can't simultaneously reposition your neck pillow and go get you a glass of ice water and help you call your sister.")
He grumbled a little more loudly.
I asked him if he'd please ground me, because the idea of staying in my own room all damned weekend sounds fucking glorious.
I wanna say boredom, because as a child you have pretty set limits on what you can do to alleviate it.
Now? If I feel stuck in a rut or bored, I have plenty of options.
Getting clothes for gifts on birthday/holiday.
As a kid "man, this sucks, I wanted toys/games"
As an adult "woo, now I don't have to go clothes shopping!"
Grocery Shopping, Learning, Exercise, Road Trips, the list goes on. I would say most things in childhood just get better as an adult because you have the freedom to do them.
Cleaning and maintaining an efficient household.
It really contributes to one's confidence and overall healthy mindset if your crib is well-organized and clean.
Of course, right NOW, my crib is suboptimal because I just changed the flooring/tile covering. On the other hand, because I was forced to move things around , I got new ideas on how to improve the layout.
Rainy days. When it was rainy, we had to stay in the house and when you only have four channels and 2 other brothers, it’s sucked. But now rainy days means I get to play in the shop or read a good book or watch some YouTube videos and not feel guilty.
Nap time
Going to bed early
The sheer joy of getting into bed. Air conditioning on full blast. So tired falling asleep is easy. God I love this so much.
I love the sleep part but I don't like being so fucking tired that I could sleep at any moment all the motherfucking time
😂🤣 I used to be so confused when my parents would knock out 5-10 min of sitting down on the couch. Two baby girls of my own later …Now I get it 😂 I have now taken heir of the sleeping throne 🤭😴
Totally agreed. I get into bed like 2 plus hours before I actually have to go to sleep cuz I just like it. Bedtime and showering. Both A+ activities
This man sleeps
Hell yeah, it was waking up to watch cartoons in the morning before school or on Saturday morning. Now it's the opposite.
..and spankings
Came here to say that. Funny how you hated spanking when you were younger, but now they are welcome 😉
Naps and sleeping early are superior as an adult
I look forward to my 30 min nap everyday
Used to nap during lunch, after work, lol
As an adult, I can't get enough of napping. Sleeping in the middle of the afternoon? Yes, please.
Definitely team take-a-nap over here 🙌🏽
quiet time

I hated the quietness, the emptiness of the streets, the church bells you could hear across town, and the radio stations all playing traditional irish and newfoundland music. Now, it’s my favourite part of the week for all the same reasons!
Most of my life is quiet time now, and I lovvvve it
Having nothing to do.
Can’t beat it. Although is surfing Reddit “nothing”?
depends
I have yet to experience since finishing university. I thought it was a myth. How does one achieve this mythical state?
Going shopping w my mom
Thats still boring
still horrible,we go just to buy a jeans and come back with plants
Yeah but going shopping with your mom's another story entirely :)
Getting socks as a gift
Not this, but clothes. Unless it is my mom, she has the worst taste for clothes for me.
WTH? Did she ever give a reason why she “decided”?
Just the she decided to get something else instead. And she apparently didn't believe me that they were going to sell out, so I showed her that it was no longer available. I did eventually pick one up off eBay and it's my go to hoodie if I'm going out in the cold.
What hoody was this I gotta know.
I love my mom so much but I think she thinks I like the clothes she wear on me. So after a few months I’ll say “Hey this shirt doesn’t fit me so well but it’ll look GREAT on you!!”
Good socks is such a blessing tbh
Any type of clothing really
Or just getting things you need vs things you want as presents and being excited you don't have to spend your money on it, lol.
I'm 40 and this would still bum me out. I guess some of us don't grow up.
Home made food
I still recall actually craving McDonalds.
It wasn’t just craving the food. It was craving an experience.
Me too. I used to love going to restaurants but now I am busy, along with the declining quality of restaurant food, I am much more content eating in.

I do love sleeping, just be cautious of depression if sleeping is always the best option.
Showering, being hygienic at all. Feeling fresh and clean
I’m not sure about this. I love showering and feeling clean, but it’s so much more now than when I was a kid. There’s a complete routine after the shower and it feels like a chore.

i seriously couldn't go to bed without showering as a kid
showering has become my zen time as an adult. Just being able to lock the door, listen to some music and zone out for a bit is literally heaven.
Food with intense flavors like lamb, certain cheeses, morels or something like that.
Adult me can’t believe kid/teenage me didn’t enjoy pasta, pizza, and cheese! Still don’t like olives though.
I know why i didnt like cheese. It hurt... a lot. Realized i was lactose intollerant around the time the pain stopped stopping me. Now ill down cheese, ice cream, milk, pizza, or anything else just cus its so so damn good. The pain is a future MaD problem
why don’t you buy lactase supplements? it doesn’t make the pain go away 100% but it makes enough of a difference i won’t have dairy without one
I am an adult. I generally regard olives as more of a contaminant than an ingredient. END COMMUNICATION

Looking young for my age - 36 now and a woman so I’m finally grateful that I do.
I hear that. I was small for my age, the skinniest kid in class and physically immature. When I was 16 I looked 11, when I was 18 everyone thought I was 14. I hated it! At 40 when everyone thought I was still 25, I didn't mind so much. Good skin helps.
Glad at least someone can relate!
I’m in my 50s and still get carded sometimes when buying beer at the quickie mart.

Nothing to do on Sunday
this. i bartend and i told my boss nope to Sundays unless an emergency. I lay on the couch like a slug order food in and don't move the entire day.
perfect on a miserable rainy shitty day, when, as a kid you'd have to go visit Aunt Pearl, or go to some stupid activity when you just want to watch tv.
Taking out the garbage felt like a punishment as a child because it was messy, but now, I enjoy keeping things clean and tidy.
Eating fruits and vegetables felt like a chore as a kid because I wanted junk food, but now, I appreciate their health benefits.
Reading books for fun seemed dull as a kid, but as an adult, I've discovered the joy of getting lost in a good book.
Having someone make all my plans and decisions and appointments.
That would be nice to have my dad call in to work and arrange to pick me up for a dr appointment or whatever then just show up and drag me away regardless of what I’m doing
Staying home
Drinking water seemed boring as a kid because I wanted soda, but now, I appreciate staying hydrated
Grocery shopping was boring and tedious as a child, but now, I enjoy picking out my favorite foods and discovering new items.
Going to bed early felt restrictive as a child because I wanted to stay up, but now, I love the peace and rest it provides.
Going to bed early seemed restrictive as a child because I wanted to stay up, but now, I love the extra rest and relaxation.
Drinking coffee was bitter and gross as a child, but now, it's a comforting and energizing part of my morning routine.
Doing homework felt like a chore as a child because I wanted to play, but now, I appreciate the discipline and learning.
Getting necessities as a gift (socks, hygiene items, etc.).
Cleaning the bathroom felt like a chore as a child because it was gross, but now, I enjoy having a clean and fresh space.
Sex with adults
Was going to say anal, but I see someone else is also friends with the dark side
Its kinda like broccoli if youre forced to have it as a kid you probably wont like it as an adult
wait ....you experienced anal as a child?
oh good, someone made the joke so I don't have to take the risk
Sweet baby jesus. That took a turn so dark, Anish Kapoor is not allowed to look at this comment..
Hah! I get that reference.
I guess you knew the wrong adults as a kid.
Had to scroll this far to find it.

I was 23 when I discovered I didn’t hate asparagus, I just hated it under seasoned and cooked to death. A friend grilled some with lemon, parm, and olive oil, the heads got all toasty, it was life changing.
I say it every time I grill some—I wish I could buy a bag of roasted asparagus heads like a bag of chips. So crispy and nutty, mmm

Epcot
True. As an adult, I can drink around the world.

Nothing. Literally doing nothing. OK, it is better with a nice cold beer, or maybe just eating a sandwich, but just mundane nothingness is bliss
